My Nexus 6 P is bricked after dropping on a hard floor... Purchased 2 years ago. Is it worth the extra money to get a Pixel 3 XL instead of the much less expensive 2 XL ?
In order of priority, my needs are:
1- Trouble free OS - Stock Android should give me that with both phones
2- Very good battery life: I often use a GPS tracking app for a full day to geotag photos and that drains the battery. My 6P won't last all day doing that since I got the Pie upgrade and before Pie, it was difficult on long days.
3- Adequate screen viewing outside on sunny days. I cannot find any info on that for either phone.
3- Good camera: The 2 XL camera has a good reputation and it seems that most 3 XL improvements are or will be available on the 2XL.
4- Screen quality: I don't really mind the blue overcast when looking at an angle but screen burn-in worries me more. Has this problem been fixed on the 2 XL ? Is it present on the 3 XL ?
There is a 345$ (Cdn $) price difference between the two. Is it worth it ???? Also, I would get a 2 yr warranty on the 2 XL and only 1 YR on the 3 XL. Finally, I don't think the 6.3" screen is an improvement because the additional .3" is useless with the notch.
Thanks for helping me.

I got the 2xl a few months ago from Telus and love it. No screen issues, battery life is great. Lots of custom ROMs to choose from as well.
Unfortunately the screen burn in cannot be "fixed" google has done some things to reduce it but its definitely still there, I've noticed some fading where my navigation bar is if I use a full screen grey background. But other than that, the XL2 is still a very solid device.

I have the Pixel 2XL for now 2 months. It's a panda version, the best version with the orange power button.
I had a Nexus 6P during 2 years before the battery life goes down (the nexus 6p's battery symptoms) 90% to 0% in 1sc and a reload time of 30sc from 0 to 100%, and it's not a joke.
I had the choice between a Pixel 3XL or the Pixel 2XL. The 3 is and still expensive but the noth is not a issue for me. But after some weeks some issue appears on the 3XL and at the same time I could have -50% on a Panda version of the Pixel 2XL with a fabric case. My choice was done.
-Great battery life (before the january patch, thx google) I was between 7-8h of SOT, now with the january's patch is more like 5-6h.
-Smooth
-Great camera but it has more noise than the Nexus 6p camera.
-Excellent screen, no burn issue and no blue effect. If you don't pass your time at full brightness, it should be good.

January patch is a security patch with software update (and sometimes issues as battery drain) Each month you have a patch, next one is February the 6th of 5th
SOT means Screen On Time, it's a thing to give us and you an idea of battery life.
F inally got the 2 XL yesterday and I'm glad I did. Installation went smoothly. I tried not to use a launcher to save on battery but I had to install Nova to get rid of the annoying Google search bar that I don't use - shame on you Google ! Great battery life so far.

Good call on the 2 XL. Nearly everything I've read says the jump from the Pixel to the 3 XL is worth the $$$, but going from a 2 XL to the 3 XL isn't.
When you're ready to get even better batt life, and/or further customize (Rom, kernel, root, etc.) check out the guide linked in my sig (since you;re new to the 2 XL) and below is a link to a mod that has given me exceptional batt life.

On pace for over 8 hours SOT. This phone is a beast!
I had a much better one two days ago, but I didn't get a screen shot.
I average well over a full work day with more than 7+ hours of SOT.
I don't use a dark theme, but it's not a bright theme either. No power save use ever. I use bluetooth and headphones to listen to music throughout the day. Plenty of web surfing and media related tasks. I don't play games.
I believe I get better battery performance following charging via wireless instead of the Rapid Charger. It's just been my overall experience so far.

Not happy with my battery life at all. Even used Package Disabler with little success.
Don't know why it says 6 hours of screen time, I get about 3 1/2 and do intermittent quick charges as it drops into the 60-70% range quick.

There is something different or wrong, mines won't drop to 60% tell well the end of the day.
Rebooted after a few changes and waiting to see how it behaves, might need to factory reset. So far not impressed and over my return period (exchange for another note 5)

Over 2 days lol sot over 3 hours never got this on my previously Note 4 , just imagine if i was a hard user would get sot probably over 6hrs and instead of 2 days , 1 day for having more sot.
Running On Samsung Galaxy Note 5 N920A
This version of the Note has me the most disappointed. I got less than 12 hours of use out of the phone, with it in ultra power saving mode for more that 50% of that time, just texting. I had my Note 4 with me as well, using that to listen to music, watch Netflix, and read on the Nook app, with wi-fi turned on but no cellular, bluetooth, or gps turned on, but I had over 50% battery left when the Note 5 died.
Battery life is great on this thing.

My battery has been good but not great and I think I know why. For some reason my Android System always seems to be whats eating up the most battery so I took a look at the running apps and found the following. Doing a little research before I disable them. The one that stands out to me is the IQ Service Agent.. I hope that's not carrier IQ.. See Screenshot:

AT&T never actually stopped using Carrier IQ. They were just doing a better job hiding it (or getting the phone manufacturer to bury it so deep that it's nearly impossible to remove.)
FML and I can't root my phone and get rid of it.. IT's causing my Android System to go nuts and always consume the most battery... This is disappointing.

AT&T has a 14 day return policy. If you are still within it, why not return the phone and get something else?
Yeah I'm within the 14 day return policy but nothing on the market is better than the Note 5 in terms of overall package. Guess I'll just ride it out. I like the Note 5 a lot and I guess if I can get a full day of use that's good enough.. Plus Marshmallow should fix a lot of issues that plague Lollipop. Here's to hoping we actually see M before the Note 6 is released..

Samsung isn't terrible when it comes to updating. Especially when you consider the amount of work involved in getting TW ported, and the high number of devices they have.
AT&T, on the other hand, might not accept that update from Samsung until 2017 or later.
I'm very serious when I say that if you keep this phone, accept it how it is today. Assume no bug fixes, no updates and no root. This way, you're prepared for one possible outcome and can only be pleasantly surprised.
(Yes, I'm having to do the same math. You can't imagine how hard it is for me to accept a phone with no root... but it's a good device...)

Hi guys,
So its time for me to get a new phone again from work, next month.
And as I'm not given an unlimited budget, I'm thinking of getting the Nexus 5X (then I dont need to pay any extre money).
Last time I got the Nexus 5, which still performs great, but its dated and is ofcourse out-performed by my private Galaxy S6.
Two years ago, I actually swapped my personal HTC M7 with the Nexus 5, cause it performed better.
I have the luxury of just using another phone for work, and keep that one for private use, its no problem.
Would you guys think the Nexus 5X might make me do the same again? Swap my S6 for the 5X?
I'm an IT person, so fps drops really grind my gears, in pretty much anything.
How does the 5X hold up on gaming these days? I cant imagine the UI/browsing/scrolling to cause FPS drops, cause that is still flawless on the normal Nexus 5 today.
Anyone else made the switch? Anyone else has this experience?
Thanks guys!
No, it's a medium range phone. Except the lack of biometric sensor, I prefer Motorola Phones.
I'm not totally happy with this phone.
Since the march update the phone is perfectly fine for most tasks. Gaming performance is fine too. But im not to picky. I went from a s6 to 5x. I switched because i killed my s6.... I prefer the 5x.
Skickat från min Nexus 5X via Tapatalk
It warms up a little in Asphalt 8 but no noticeable Lags.
I have the S7 and the N5X and using the Nexus as my daily driver.
Camera is still better on N5X and the experience always best even though the screen is a lot better on S7 and battery life also is better on S7 (tested several configurations with the N5X and can't make it the whole day with a little bit of music, 2 hours of video playing, and a little bit of browsing and whatsapp during the day).
Great phone that you can own for 280€ in Europe now... so best deal ever.
Going for the new HTC 10 the speaker in this phone is horrible.

try the surround sound mod in Nexus 5x themes and apps section . its a lot better now.
For me, the story starts and ends with Android updates, especially security updates. I'd thinkt that as an IT guy that would be high on your list of priorities as well. With the N5X, you'll get them as long as the hardware is still capable of running the latest Android version. Your S6 is nice now, but with the S7 out, how long do you think Samsung will continue to update the S6? I bought a Galaxy S3 on release around July 2012, less than 2 years later Samsung decided they were done and the phone still sits at Android version 4.4.2, with tons of security holes unpatched, even though here on XDA there are Android 6 ROMs for it. I mean, the S3 is *still*, 4 years after release, the most popular smartphone model in the world when you look at how many are still in use, and nearly all of them are vulnerable to security flaws that were fixed months or even years ago. Meanwhile the Nexus 5 was released a year earlier and is happily running the very latest Android version.
Literally the only issue I have with this phone is the speaker. I'll try the surround sound mod for that.
This phone is plenty fast. I switched from a 6P because it was too big. Going from the 810 to the 808 I haven't noticed a drop in performance, but I don't do anything performance heavy.
camera, fingerprint, stock android, quick updates, and dev community are flawless
after the march update, performance is perfect as well, both for normal use and gaming.
the only significant downside IMO, is that the battery is smaller than ideal for my daily use.
Also, and this is a lesser issue, the loudspeaker is sub-par.
I agree with everyone on the speaker, only other thing i wish was a better build quality, i have to use certain cases to get rid of the creaking plastic sound. For 200 dollars i plan on using this phone until the next Nexus.
The speaker is the only downside for me but I'm going to try some sound enhancements to see of it improves..
Despite of the small battery, battery life is still very good.. Performance is good and nexuses are so freaking smooth!
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA-Developers mobile app
for me the speaker is bad, but since i dont listen music on speakerphone much, its not bothering me.. the only downside for me is charging the phone. not the speed of charging, but the fear of the phone might catch up in fire. few users had experience this. my 5x performs really good, coming from htc m7, would buy it if LG fix this charging burning issue.

Likely have a bug they need to fix first. Is still expect it in the coming week or so unless Google puts out a statement.
I think it is coming, as 1st Gen Pixels are under security updates support for one more year. Or it is possible that security updates under the bulletin not affect 1st gen devices, but I doubt Google will start to fragment their devices under support.

This could very well be a good sign. October patch has been absolutely horrible for my OG XL, lag, freezing, battery life reduced by about a third. I know a lot of people have complained about similar experiences.

Is this confirmed?
I'm on September update, never applied the October update, and my battery state has gone from being amazing to super terrible in October.
The phone heats up a lot, the battery doesn't even last few hours without use, and accubattery doesn't show anything out of normal.
Could it be some of the play store updates like google play services and others are causing this?
Like I said I'm on September update and was waiting for the November update to wipe the phone clean and start clean slate, which I hate to do, dreading to reconfigure everything.
Thanks
BB
I went to lineageos 15.1, its.... So good... But looks generic. Battery life is amazing i average 5+ h of SOT
I'm facing weird charging issue with my ORIGINAL charger on my PIXEL XL. I have to restart everytime before I plug the device in for charging. It just doesn't charge on OG charger without a restart.
I hope they are fixing this dumb issue.
Yeah, this has been happening to me too, sometimes when restart doesn't work, i have to charge to 100% on another charger, after that it'll work again. And since last month it finally shows charging rapidly on similarly specced chargers as the original one

Me too, I'm thinking to upgrade (or downgrade, if the word fits) my s8(exynos) to mi9se. All other new phones are too big, and quite too expensive.(Even the S10e)
My main problem with s8 is battery life and lack of developers. Will it be any better if I switch to mi9se?

I never used custom kernel but I'm tempt
I came from S8 and I am very happy. No drawback since I changed to MI9Se. Battery is much better, although the capacity is almost the same as S8. I have no clue why, all Samsung phone have such a bad battery management
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I get around 6 to 7 hours SOT

It's not about samsung being bad at battery management.
Newer phone = Newer battery,
Efficient cpu in comparison to s8.
There is no magic,pure logic
If gaming performance is not that important to you, trust me, you won't miss that much. Screen is basically the same, both phones are snappy but navigation is a bit different though especially the gestures (I love the One UI gestures, it's more convenient having the recent, home and back button in the same place down the screen rather than swiping the left and right on the edge of the screen). I bought the 9 SE as a secondary phone to my Galaxy S9+ because my S9+ rear camera and fingerprint module has already failed just right after the 1 year warranty period expired (just my pure luck). Having it fix here in my country cost way too much money so I just decided to get a phone with a decent camera instead until I can renew my contract from carrier next year.

Just curious, why didn't you choose pixel 3a if camera was your need? Price?

Well, Pixel phones are not officially supported or even sold in my country. I can get it in the grey market but I won't make such gamble especially if I'm spending $300 and above, warranty is important too if I will be investing that much.
Since I had my mi9se, I'll write some things that aren't noticeable without it:
1. the camera bump is really tall. 1.55mm isn't something like unnoticeable. also, its edges are sharp, so it's not a good design.
2. it's noticeably heaver than s8. my s8 without case&screen protection weighs 150g(using with really thin TPU case: 10g), and mi9se with glass screen protector but without case weighs 165g. BTW, stock TPU case is 16g, and it's not even fully covering the camera bump.
3. Fingerprint in display is cool, but not as fast as traditional ones. Though, it's not that slower compared with my unrooted S8.(using havoc ROM)
4. Proper GCam mod won't be avalable very soon, because of a bug made by xiaomi. It's snapdragon, so HDR+ process is way faster than S8, but because of that bug, pictures have a yellowish tone.
5. Custom ROM development isn't very popular for a Xiaomi device.
6. No waterproofing, and durability is unknown. If you are wondering what I'm saying, go search "jerryrigeverything" at youtube, and watch his video about xiaomi/redmi.
Now for the good part:
1. The display is very bright. Brighter than S8.
2. Having a wide angle lens is nice. Really, it's nice.
3. There definitively are developers, and we've got proper ROM(Havoc, came just in a few days ago)! yes, non-MiUI, non-GSI, proper custom ROM!
All in all, not a perfect device, but great bang for the buck.
BTW, mi cc9e is coming with a bigger battery, but I suspect it's gonna be really heavy.
In my Opinion the main reason to get a 9SE instead of a S8 is the price. So if you have to look at your money take the 9SE.
In a week the MI A3 should be purchaseable, this phone could be a choice as well. Not sure if a MI A3 Lite is gonna be released as well.
Had my trusty s21 ultra since day 1 .im liking the fold 4 but my main gripe is battery life m what are you guys getting . on my s21 ultra still to this day i am getting excellent batt life
battery life is excellent.
Same here, came from S21 Ultra, but the folds battery life is at least on par if not better. That's after using it for a good week.

any screens ? plz
Haven't tested it fully, but played a game in two sessions in parallel after work (split screen) from 6pm till 9pm. Pretty resource hungry game. And lost 22% of battery. That's on par with my S21U, but there only a smaller screen and only 1 game session.
I also jumped from S21U to Fold 4. I'm only three days in, so I'm still in the adjustment period. For me, battery life so far hasn't been as good, but it's not far off. If it helps, I've made it through three days of use, probably elevated use given the usual setup tasks. I expect that once the learning period ends and I've done some tuning that it'll be right around the same. And even if it's not quite as good, the benefits of the device outweigh any loss in battery life to me.
Same here s21 ultra to. Fold 4. Battery on par maybe slightly less but considering what the battery is running screen wise I'm good with it. Missing my 10x zoom a little but so far love this next device ture new phone not just a candy bar upgrade

How long are you on the FOLD and do you use it as your daily phone? Did you give it the time to 'learn' and adjust the battery to your usage? I now get about 23-24 hours between chargers with 5 hours of SOT and most of my correspondence and browsing on the inner screen. Yes, the S21 Ultra had a good battery life, the FOLD is not far of it though.
Also jumped from S21U to F4. The first few days, maybe the first week, battery life was noticeably worse. Not massively, but enough to notice. I fiddled with some sleep settings and after the AI did it's thing the last 3-4 days have been almost as good as the S21U, just a hair worse. I get through a full day with around 30-40% left now (S21U was closer to 50%). That's without doing anything drastic... a few apps disabled, but no rooting, and I don't even think I did any ADB disables this time, just straight on-device. I'm running 4-6 SOT for that BTW.
Also just switched from a S21 U to the Fold 4. The camera setup is weaker but only marginally, in nearly 2 years of owing the S21 U the x10 zoom lens was hardly used, so isn't missed, and the x3 optical lens is pretty close to the S21U.
The loss of the x10 optical lens however is more than made up for by the massive screen realestate and the multitasking functionality. Only had the Fold for a few days, but the amount of additional productivity is mind blowing, its a game changer for me.
Battery life has been great for me, its actually outlasted the S21 U. Very happy so far .

I charge to 85% most days, 100->0% would be around 6hrs+ screen on time. That's doing a bit of everything, including some gaming via an emulator.
