November Pixel Update? - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I noticed Google has posted the November updates for Nexus and Pixel devices.
But I don't see one for the Pixel XL. Oddly I do see one for my wife's Nexus 5X, which is an older phone than the Pixel XL.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Possibly just no security patches needed for 1st gen Pixel.
Phone No guaranteed Android version updates after No guaranteed security updates after No guaranteed telephone or online support after
Pixel XL October 2018 October 2019 October 2019

Considering the 6P just got its last update, I think the Pixel will be safe for another year.

Likely have a bug they need to fix first. Is still expect it in the coming week or so unless Google puts out a statement.

I think it is coming, as 1st Gen Pixels are under security updates support for one more year. Or it is possible that security updates under the bulletin not affect 1st gen devices, but I doubt Google will start to fragment their devices under support.

No, no update here too. For now.

This could very well be a good sign. October patch has been absolutely horrible for my OG XL, lag, freezing, battery life reduced by about a third. I know a lot of people have complained about similar experiences.

Have you read that somewhere or just an assumption?

Maybe they'll fix the reboot issue... Before my replacement stops booting like the last one...

I dunno, but October update was a drain for my battery, just playing pandora and it'll drain my battery in 2h
and half a week running Accubattery estimates my battery is ~3220mah from the 3450 full mah

Well it is likely coming, as there's reference on Verizon's site:

Is this confirmed?
I'm on September update, never applied the October update, and my battery state has gone from being amazing to super terrible in October.
The phone heats up a lot, the battery doesn't even last few hours without use, and accubattery doesn't show anything out of normal.
Could it be some of the play store updates like google play services and others are causing this?
Like I said I'm on September update and was waiting for the November update to wipe the phone clean and start clean slate, which I hate to do, dreading to reconfigure everything.
Thanks
BB

I went to lineageos 15.1, its.... So good... But looks generic. Battery life is amazing i average 5+ h of SOT

I'm facing weird charging issue with my ORIGINAL charger on my PIXEL XL. I have to restart everytime before I plug the device in for charging. It just doesn't charge on OG charger without a restart.
I hope they are fixing this dumb issue.

Yeah, this has been happening to me too, sometimes when restart doesn't work, i have to charge to 100% on another charger, after that it'll work again. And since last month it finally shows charging rapidly on similarly specced chargers as the original one

Still ZERO November 2018 update for Pixel XL phone. Only 7 days (and counting) since this was released. It is now November 12, 2018 WTF Google??????????????????????????????????

Has anyone received the January Security Update via OTA?

So it's now January 18th and I've yet to receive the security update for January. Has anyone received it, via OTA?
Quite frankly I'm surprised that Google can be so late pushing it out given that there are probably not even 250,000 people who bought the thing.
Wouldn't surprise me if Google are holding off on it until a massive update is ready to fix/help other issues
Google will be lucky if 25,000 people bought the thing AND kept it.

not sure they care about sale numbers.
Like previous Pixel devices, it's mainly for done for internal usage, PR, aura, showcase, exploring, reference platform, etc. And to acquire knowledge on how to build such devices.
The fact that they sell it to anyone is a just a bonus for fans and tech enthusiasts.

interesting point. it would explain the lack of testing. but it does not explain the web site or many of the AMA answers or the AMA itself. google is certainly getting well deserved training on the return process with this device.

Typically the images are posted to the developer website before any OTAs go out. No updated image has been posted (other than MXB48K, which we know isn't a January update), so I wouldn't expect any OTA.

Does this new update include the February 1st security update? If so, could you provide a screen capture?

Just bought the Pixel C and it came with 6.0. I haven't been promoted to update to 6.0.1 but I'm wondering if 6.0.1 is the OTA update or if I should just flash the factory image?
Also, is then 6.0.1 update the one that moves the buttons to opposite edges?
Thanks.

Whoa you should have been prompted to update to 6.0.1 right away there's not even a 6.0 factory image.
seems this pixel c was really beyond what they promises to delivered. every 6 weeks for new update. in fact nexus brand can get update almost on time.

Same here. I had a warranty issue with my first Pixel, the replacement they sent me is also on 6.0, with no OTA to 6.0.1.
But honestly it seems to work better.
---------- Post added at 05:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:34 PM ----------
In an attempt to ask Google why my device is still on October Security Patch and no 6.0.1 Update on my warranty replacement Pixel.
So I guess I just had to wait. I avoided flashing the 6.0.1 update since I had already set up my tablet using the "Setup my device" feature through Google Now from my 6P. Last night my Pixel C was prompted to install the 6.0.1 update and updated fine. I'm unsure of what be features are added other than security, but my home and back buttons are moved to the left while recent apps button is on the right. So I guess it worked. That and the fact that under about tablet it says 6.0.1 ha-ha.
It seems to run a bit smoother now so, there's that.
I got the OTA udpate last night. I am in San Diego, CA.
Yesterday I received MXB48T OTA update on my 32GB pixel C. The inconsistent WiFi speeds issues have not been solved.

Pixel 2 XL or 3 XL ?

My Nexus 6 P is bricked after dropping on a hard floor... Purchased 2 years ago. Is it worth the extra money to get a Pixel 3 XL instead of the much less expensive 2 XL ?
In order of priority, my needs are:
1- Trouble free OS - Stock Android should give me that with both phones
2- Very good battery life: I often use a GPS tracking app for a full day to geotag photos and that drains the battery. My 6P won't last all day doing that since I got the Pie upgrade and before Pie, it was difficult on long days.
3- Adequate screen viewing outside on sunny days. I cannot find any info on that for either phone.
3- Good camera: The 2 XL camera has a good reputation and it seems that most 3 XL improvements are or will be available on the 2XL.
4- Screen quality: I don't really mind the blue overcast when looking at an angle but screen burn-in worries me more. Has this problem been fixed on the 2 XL ? Is it present on the 3 XL ?
There is a 345$ (Cdn $) price difference between the two. Is it worth it ???? Also, I would get a 2 yr warranty on the 2 XL and only 1 YR on the 3 XL. Finally, I don't think the 6.3" screen is an improvement because the additional .3" is useless with the notch.
Thanks for helping me.

I got the 2xl a few months ago from Telus and love it. No screen issues, battery life is great. Lots of custom ROMs to choose from as well.
Unfortunately the screen burn in cannot be "fixed" google has done some things to reduce it but its definitely still there, I've noticed some fading where my navigation bar is if I use a full screen grey background. But other than that, the XL2 is still a very solid device.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using XDA Labs
I have the Pixel 2XL for now 2 months. It's a panda version, the best version with the orange power button.
I had a Nexus 6P during 2 years before the battery life goes down (the nexus 6p's battery symptoms) 90% to 0% in 1sc and a reload time of 30sc from 0 to 100%, and it's not a joke.
I had the choice between a Pixel 3XL or the Pixel 2XL. The 3 is and still expensive but the noth is not a issue for me. But after some weeks some issue appears on the 3XL and at the same time I could have -50% on a Panda version of the Pixel 2XL with a fabric case. My choice was done.
-Great battery life (before the january patch, thx google) I was between 7-8h of SOT, now with the january's patch is more like 5-6h.
-Smooth
-Great camera but it has more noise than the Nexus 6p camera.
-Excellent screen, no burn issue and no blue effect. If you don't pass your time at full brightness, it should be good.

January patch is a security patch with software update (and sometimes issues as battery drain) Each month you have a patch, next one is February the 6th of 5th
SOT means Screen On Time, it's a thing to give us and you an idea of battery life.
F inally got the 2 XL yesterday and I'm glad I did. Installation went smoothly. I tried not to use a launcher to save on battery but I had to install Nova to get rid of the annoying Google search bar that I don't use - shame on you Google ! Great battery life so far.

Good call on the 2 XL. Nearly everything I've read says the jump from the Pixel to the 3 XL is worth the $$$, but going from a 2 XL to the 3 XL isn't.
When you're ready to get even better batt life, and/or further customize (Rom, kernel, root, etc.) check out the guide linked in my sig (since you;re new to the 2 XL) and below is a link to a mod that has given me exceptional batt life.

Seems it is with all the official leaks lately
Also, howdy Mike. Long time no see. Been a few years since I even posted on the forums.
I guess Android 12 will be released on 13-09 and Pixel 6 will be launched on 30-09.
My guess is based on the images from the Official video on google store.

they will release it on 9/13 according to the new leak. I can't wait.
One thing is for sure - Google will let us know when the big day is. I'm watching that 9/30 day. Android 12 will need to be finished first. There will be lots of PR to promote the big reveal. I'm not worried about when, concentrating on a color choice. I went from the usual black to white but now that yellow is looking good.
Well if they needs time to get the Chipset Google Tensor (5 nm) fine tuned, then I think we better wait!

I plan on upgrading from my 3a (currently running DroidOnTime 5.2). I have no objectkions to either Android 12 OR Material You (as I was runnning the betas os 12 before DroidOnTime 5.1.3, and then 5.2); I am simply waiting for retail availability (or better Amazon availabililty), so my mom - who followed me to the 3a last year - can upgrade our respective 3a smartphones simultaneously. We both went to the 3a for the same reason - the deadliest still-picture capability in a phone at the time; so far, the 6 Pro has shown itself to be deadlier - despite being phablet-sized (size-wise, the 6 Pro reminds me of of the Galaxy Note 9, Note 10, and even the Note 20 Ultra; rather amusingly, the 6 Pro is piced less than any of them new).

Careful, or the Pixel 6 Pro forum could end up turning into a cesspool!
I own a small Pixel 2 and was waiting for the Pixel 6 Pro, even after replacing my battery its too small and it sucks.
I've been a bit disappointed with the reviews and I'm currently debating whether to import (when there's one available) the Pixel 6 Pro for 900 euros or buy (through the company I work) the Samsung S21 Ultra for 720 euros.
Will the lack of timely updates and the One UI bother me? I just can't decide, some opinions would be appreciated.
Cheers

Today’s update marks our tenth Pixel Feature Drop . The latest updates begin rolling out to Pixel 3a through Pixel 5a (5G) devices today, while Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices will begin receiving their updates later this month.
Night Sight in SnapchatFor those moments when the lighting isn’t quite right, Night Sight in Pixel Camera helps you capture clear low-light pictures and video. Now we're bringing Night Sight to Snapchat so you can snap vibrant, detailed, low-light videos or photos without flash. Give it a try on your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro by selecting low light mode in the Snapchat app to make sure you never miss a moment — even in the dark.
Communicating with captions
For people who can't or prefer not to speak on calls, there's a new way to communicate with Live Caption. Now when you’re on a phone call you can see captions of what the other person says and type back a response that will be read out loud on the other end.
Make messages and video calls more fun
A picture is worth a thousand words. When you’re typing in messaging apps in, Gboard can convert your words into colorful stickers built with your exact text. With emoji, emoji kitchen and custom sticker suggestions while you type your Pixel helps you express exactly how you feel. Coming to Pixel users globally typing in English (U.S.) starting today.
It's also getting easier to connect with friends and family on video calls: Host your own YouTube watch parties or share your favorite app with live sharing for Duo, all on your Pixel phone.
More languages. More ways to translate.Live Translate on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro makes communicating in different languages easy. And with Interpreter mode, you can now translate your face-to-face conversations with Spanish, Italian and French speakers right on your phone, as all translations stay on device. Give it a try by saying, “Hey Google, be my Spanish interpreter.”
And the new Pixel battery widget can show up-to-date battery information for your Pixel, as well as 1-connected devices like Pixel Buds). Add the widget to your homescreen to keep an eye on battery life across your devices.
Image showing a rendition of a Pixel with a colorful wallpaper on the screen.
More helpful features for more PixelsIn addition to the features reaching Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, we’re also bringing existing features to more languages and devices.
Direct My Call and Wait Times will now be available for Pixel 3a and newer phones.
Recorder can now transcribe in Italian and Spanish on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
Assistant Quick phrases will be available in Spanish, Italian and French on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

As far as I'm aware, there is still just plain "12", and the just-released stable "12L". It's also my impression that the final release of 12L that just came out, didn't come out for the Pixel 6 or Pro yet, and that both 12 and 12L with March updates for the P6/Pro will come out later this month.
Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong.

It was reported in several places that there would be 1 more Beta or RC release for 12L before it went stable. But for other devices it does appear that March is 12.1. So we'll have to see what they do with this device.
SP2A.220305.013.A3
We have the build number... Just release it ffs.
This is getting kinda ridiculous at this point, right?
Unless Google wants to cut a new build, I don't think we'll have to wait the whole week. Maybe they'll drop it on a Friday again.
Or maybe it's at 5:00 today and they're simply covering their asses with the "later this month" wording.

No it's not it's 12L aka 12.1 https://9to5google.com/2022/03/07/pixel-march-22-security-patch/

Yeah maybe for the Pixel 6 but idk because they don't mention it in today's blogs and support pages just states that we're get the update later this month https://9to5google.com/2022/03/07/pixel-march-22-security-patch/
Btw this is probably why it's delayed
https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1500907414845022208
wtf are Google doing! Only 2 releases came on time.
Although I'm surprised this happened, I'm still not overly concerned. If the update was ready for our phone right now, they would release it.

Thanks! I wondered - I saw a reference to 12.1 somewhere but at the time it wasn't obvious to me that 12.1 was 12L merged with 12.
To anyone whom this might concern: please stop using abbreviations for getting around the swear filter.

I don't mind delays because I never take updates until I wait and see reports on them first.
Seriously? Again? Yea.... Why would you make sure your NEWEST FLAGSHIP receives updates on time? Google is an absolute joke. How pathetic.

nope, not fixed :/
Update available for me. Anyone noticed a difference in battery life? Really happy with the battery I have now. On the Pixel 7 Pro, it varied widely between great to terrible depending on what update you were on.

Yes any updates on battery life or VPN issues on the Fold 4 would be greatly appreciated.
I've held off on updating for a few months now.
Thanks!
I decided to update anyway. Will post an update on battery life in a couple of days.
Updated in the morning to June patch (EUX). VPN works, battery life much better than May update, at least so far.

Thanks a lot for your reply!
Glad to hear that VPN works! By any chance are you using OpenVPN?
Glad to hear that battery life is better too! Please report back any further battery observations.
Thanks!

To be clear, with this update the phone also lags a lot less for me. I was about to switch to S23U because of unbearable lag with May update. VPN worked with May update for me too, so no change here.

I hadn't heard that the Fold 4, May update had lag issues at all. Wow, thanks for sharing. Was it noticeable only when you were pushing the phone hard, or could it be noticed with everyday, normal use as well?
Would you say the June update has resolved the lag issue, or is it still noticeable?
Thanks!
It was all over the place, I barely ever game (and then, 5 year-old titles). Mostly work with browser and documents. Looks removed to me now. Like new

According to this post on Samsung's forums this doesn't impact all devices, the poster guesses it only affects buds. What type of buds/headphones/Bluetooth receiver are you using?
I'm still on the February patch since I didn't dare to update yet since this issue would strongly impact my routine..
T-mobile here, not received June patch yet.......however, the one for May has caused my battery life to drain and the device hot off and on since the update.

I've got the Buds 2 pro powerboats pro buds live Sony wf1000xm4 Sennheiser momentum 2 and the BTR7 every true wireless earbud has the issue with absolute volume the btr7 is fine though.
I give up on Bluetooth until they fix it I bought a
HiBy FC1 portable dac for £30 it does the job bit of a pain using wired headphones but at least I can use my EQS with power amp in the car with the AUX and with my IEMS.
I did ask CS about it and they said they would look into it. The Samsung repair centre I left my z flip 4 in to get the screen fixed looked at it and did say yes that looks like a bug he had a fold 3 on the May update using the buds 2 pro it was working fine for him

Well, that really doesn't sound encouraging. I have Momentum 3 over ears, but also occasionally use the Galaxy Buds 2 (non-Pro). Seems like I'll stay on Feb patch for a bit longer..
