It's a known problem for our device called 'ebola'. There is no solution available for that. I suggest you to move to other device.

Phone says "Type password to decrypt storage". PLEASE HELP I'm out of ideas
I was running the new liquid smooth, when I rebooted my phone it booted up and then took me to a screen that says "type password to decrypt storage". I've never encrypted my storage and have no password.
I rebooted into TWRP to restore a backup, but it won't mount my internal storage and it says 0mb as if it's not even there. Then I tried to flash the GPE RUU, it sends the file but then when its time write it it won't mount the system. I also tried side loading the ROM and it won't mount either.
someone please help me.
EDIT: fixed the issue. Very simple actually. make sure you are bootloader unlocked and have TWRP as recovery.
Boot into recovery>Wipe>Format Data>type in "yes">Go to main menu>Install>check to make sure it says 'xxxxx mb' (x is a placeholder for numbers. for example, when i had my problem my internal storage said 0mb)>go to advanced>adb sideload>check both boxes>swype to start sideload>sideload the rom from your computer
This is also very helpful if you wipe your system and have no ROM to flash. Same steps apply
fastboot format userdata would get the job done too

I've had this problem. To solve it which took me some thought I went to root explorer and mounted as root then booted into recovery and everything was back.

Thanks. Your solution was the only one that worked. I just used otg instead of adb sideload because my device wasn't reconized.

No problem man. Glad to be of help, I know how ****ing frustrating device errors are.
Guys i need help asap plz so i installed a rom to my htc m8 and im guessing in the setting the fastboot is on and i cant turn it on because the phone wont load it say " phone has stopped unexpectedly" says the same thing for blinkfeed its just a black screen in the background and in the bottom left it says safe mode also i cant reboot into recovery pleaseee please help ASAP i need my phone back up and running
Sorry to drag this thread from the depths of history, but I'm just wondering if anyone ever worked out WHY this happens? It's a massive pain in the ass (happened to me today, couldn't work out how I'd somehow added a storage password with the device in my pocket...)
Is it more likely to be a Rom thing or is it just an unfortunate side effect of rooting/ unlocking the phone?

If I do this will I loose all my data? I recently got my screen fixed and when I got my phone back, I cannot access my info and it is asking for a storage decryption code. Will this help me?
Sorry if I didn't read one of the posts thoroughly enough, but my m8 is currently in that state, and since the fastboot setting was on "on" when my phone locked up, I can't get to the bootloader or recovery. Holding power and down doesn't work, nor does power and up. Is there another way to get back to recovery or something so I can re-flash? Please help! Thanks.

I found out how to get to the bootloader/ recovery without fastboot off in the settings. I waited for the phone to die and once it did I plugged it in. Then I held down the power and volume down buttons and it didn't fastboot because it had died. Hope this helps someone!

I'm sure most people would have simply used ADB.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Thank you so much for this thread and the instructions OP.... just got me out of quite a pickle:good:

Thank you so much!!! I thought I bricked my phone! You are a life saver!
You don't have to flash new rom,
just unlock bootloader, flash twrp, and do factory reset/wipe data... reboot and you're done
thanks for sharing hobs94

please help i really freaked up and wasted couple of week but i didnt find anything could u please guide me on this by telling me iin detail how i boot my htc m8 into recovery THANKS IN AADVANCE
Thanks a ton bro for this! it was simple and fast... finally got rid of the frustrating "Decryption Unsuccessful" error!
Hi, I am in a similar issue. Started a thread as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/htc-m8-encrypted-message-locked-boot-t3335383
But in my case , bootloader is locked, S-ON, and there is no custom recovery as TWRP etc. I have been trying all the options and it always boots up to that encryption message. Please give me some ideas... Thanks.
I am unable to unlock boot loader. I tried the HTC tool provided here on this site by Hansoon, can get to the phone saying will unlock boot loader screen by HTC and that trying this is risky, I select appropriate boxes and the phone reboots with system still locked, fast out screen still stating locked and restarts to dreaded " your phone is encrypted" password to decrypt and same cycle starts.
Tried using the adb tool, cannot see the phone through that. It gives me all the command to use but cannot get to the phone, although can see the phone in my devices as a MTP device. Once I even saw it as a Android device in my devices. Have spent good half of Sunday afternoon but no success.
Please direct. My phone is Sprint based and one evening when looked at it had the dreaded decrypt screen. I didn't do anything to get there.

Your phone didn't encrypt itself! There's a reason you can't circumvent this security and really people should not be helping you try to do so in this forum.

Please help fast!Is there any way to save this? "data encryption failed"

Also TWRP is saying "unable to mount storage" what should i do?
Remove old password/pattern lock/anything.
Add a new one and select password on boot.
Reboot to recovery.
Enter the same password/pattern lock/anything.
It will decrypt your data partition for recovery.
Hope it helps. Thanks

I unlocked my bootloader installed twrp and stuck

i jsut unlocked my bootloader and flashed twrp i had got the message to set decrypt password but i hit cancel now i cant seem to get my storages to mount nor can i get the option to insert password again please help.. ??....
also i had not set up an encryption password just had a regular 4 digit password ...... what should i use as my decrypt password?
my phone also keeps going into recovery mode how to fix

TWRP decrypt failed even with good password.

TWRP failed to decrpt even with good password.
i already change the PIN Password of my phone but even after i reboot back to TWRP then tried to decrypt it using the correct password still it gives me decrypt fail.
it already happens to my phone twice.. the first time it happened to i format my phone data and lose all of my data in internal storage. i dont want to format my phone again. i can still boot to normal mode but when i tried to use TWRP it always gives decrpt fail error.

Try this in twrp
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/help/solution-fix-unlock-phone-restore-twrp-t3508173
I canceled the encryption after 1 or 2 correct PIN inputs -- it still opens TWRP but it can't detect any files -- and *then* I touch the "Mount" button, choose the partitions I want mounted, and it suddenly says encryption successful, and I can access my files.

Recovery: LOS-Recovery --> TWRP: can't decrypt partition

Hello,
I've got a Samsung S9 with LOS 17.1. I had LOS-Recovery and tried to switch to TWRP because I'd like to install supersu to get root access for Titanium Backup.
Now TWRP says it can't decrypt the phone. I put in the right pattern, but it still says "Unable to mount storage". Even though I never encrypted the storage.
What can I do? Thanks
disable device encryption by turning off the screen lock then reboot into recovery. it will work then. dont forget to turn encryption back on when you are done.
