TWRP failed to decrpt even with good password.
i already change the PIN Password of my phone but even after i reboot back to TWRP then tried to decrypt it using the correct password still it gives me decrypt fail.
it already happens to my phone twice.. the first time it happened to i format my phone data and lose all of my data in internal storage. i dont want to format my phone again. i can still boot to normal mode but when i tried to use TWRP it always gives decrpt fail error.

Try this in twrp

I canceled the encryption after 1 or 2 correct PIN inputs -- it still opens TWRP but it can't detect any files -- and *then* I touch the "Mount" button, choose the partitions I want mounted, and it suddenly says encryption successful, and I can access my files.

I was having issues with wifi after 3.2.1 upgrade. So i went for a downgrade to 3.1.2 and then to check if it worked well there. Am using TWRP multirom. I wiped system, data and dalvik and flashed the 3.1.2 official rom. After the phone booted, it showed that the device encryption was unsuccessful and to go for a reset.
When i clicked reset, it went to multirom TWRP which asked for a password to decrypt the phone. By googling i found that the password was "default_password". Then I enter it, TWRP proceeds for decryption and does it successfully (although data doesnot get mounted). But once the phone boots I again get the same " encryption unsuccessful" message.
Please help. It is my daily driver and have to leave for offfice....:crying:
Hey, I'm just here cause I'm researching multirom encryption which I know very little about just yet, but the last thread that came up in my google results mentioned something that might help you. The developer of multirom was explaining that you will always be asked twice for the encryption password, because it's needed once to decrypt and mount the kernel and then later it is needed again to decrypt and mount the data partition. Saving it in memory in between uses would be a security flaw that would make encryption useless. So my guess is you need to enter the password a second time to get data to mount.
Whenever I flash a new rom after a fullwipe, I still have to type in a pin to boot the phone. I think this is called "verified boot". This is also the pin I need in TWRP to decrypt data. So obviously this pin has been stored outside of data or system partitions and is used upon every new install/boot of a new rom to encrypt it immediately upon first boot.
So where is this encryption key stored and how do I delete it?

I have this exact problem, not sure how to resolve this issue but it seems my phone needs my pin even after wiping the phone.
I would love to fix this, if anybody has any tips that would be great, I am running a OnePlus 3 with root and twrp.
-thanks.

Go to fastboot, type fastboot format userdata. Or go to twrp, wipe, wipe data via the button. This should do the same. Beware that data and your internal storage will get wiped.
to disable the pin you have to do this:
setting>security>screen lock> type PIN> PIN
then you will see Secure start-up ( Require PIN to start device/ No Thank you)
i jsut unlocked my bootloader and flashed twrp i had got the message to set decrypt password but i hit cancel now i cant seem to get my storages to mount nor can i get the option to insert password again please help.. ??....

I am facing a strange problem
I have enabled encryption on pe latest build and while booting the phone to system pattern works..But when i put the same pattern in twrp it doesn't decrypt. I want decrypt it without factory reset.
Help is appreciated ?
Good luck with that, I ended up copying entire volume to the PC and formatting the phone afterwards.
You can start by trying with OrangeFox recovery, somehow behaves better than TWRP.
Hello,
I've got a Samsung S9 with LOS 17.1. I had LOS-Recovery and tried to switch to TWRP because I'd like to install supersu to get root access for Titanium Backup.
Now TWRP says it can't decrypt the phone. I put in the right pattern, but it still says "Unable to mount storage". Even though I never encrypted the storage.
What can I do? Thanks
disable device encryption by turning off the screen lock then reboot into recovery. it will work then. dont forget to turn encryption back on when you are done.
