Is anyone else experiencing issues with UI performance? A large amount of the apps I use appear to suffer massive frame rate drops when scrolling and I don't understand it at all. Considering the power behind the phone it makes no sense to me and the only thing I can think of is lack of optimisation. The best example I can give is when there are images on screen it feels like the frame rate drops as scrolling isn't as smooth then when it's just text it's buttery smooth. It isn't just images causing it though so I don't know if it's the apps, the phone, the ROM or a combination.
It wouldn't be so bad if the battery life was stellar but that too is pretty bad. With the same use I sometimes get down to 50% in around 8 hours (very light use) then another day it'll be over 15 hours.
Do I have a possible dodgy phone or are these common issues? I'm stuck on an old ROM (carrier branding, yay!) with no updates showing.

Hi Mate im currently running the htc one x but havent come across some of the issues your mentioning. When you say the framerate drops is this more when looking at websites etc as the browser re-alligns the text to your screen. Im running mine on stock to at the moment with vodafone branding if that helps at all.
Heya. I'm running stock too (T-Mobile) and the frame rate thing is an odd one. It doesn't happen in all the apps I use but enough that I noticed it. I'll have to keep a list of the apps because I can't find one doing it right now. The best comparison I can make is with PC games where you have nice and smooth gameplay but then a lot of effects happen and if your graphics card isn't good enough the frame rate drops and you notice a slight stuttering effect.
Anyway, you say you haven't got it on stock Vodafone so it's possible / highly likely that it's apps not set to use hardware acceleration.
One other thing I've just been reminded of is photos. Occasionally when I look back at photos in a grid the bottom of them will have visual artifacts. I'm trying to attach a grid of my photos, some are more noticeable than others like the white chunk on one in the middle of the grid. It doesn't affect the actual photo but when I first saw it the first thing I thought of was my Desire HD with current camera hacks to run ICS. As it doesn't do anything to the image it isn't too serious but not a good thing to see.
Hello!
I am considering buying a Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wifi, I've made a loooot of research on it and here are my assumptions/inquiries about the device. PLEASE correct me if any of them is wrong:
The best tablet screen yet, still why do they set brightness to maximum in reviews? Is it too dim at 50%?
Not the smoothest UI, I'm familiar with TouchWiz and I expect some hiccups but not affecting the performance (I mean, e.g. the pages will scroll on time but the animation may not always be as smooth as expected or it may drop frames, only not quite often)
It doesn't hang doing normal activities - I won't need to reboot it
Good battery life, again: if I really need to set brightness to maximum all the time, will the battery still be good?
Thanks in advance...
It is very bright. 10-20% usually is enough indoors. In the sun you'll need 100%, best sunlight readability I've come across so far, but still you need to tilt it out of direct reflections. On 100% brightness you'll get 4-5 hours screen on time. Usually around 6. If you debloat it, there's no lag or stutter at all, I can't see any. Debloating can be time consuming. It is easier to flash a new Rom, but then you go rooted. Mine crashes from time to time (not a big deal), but I think it is due to some premature apps.

Great, regarding the brightness!
By crashes, though, you mean the kind that you would see on most Anrdoid devices such as Note 3? Or is there anything more serious here?
PS: I just read that this should probably belong to Q/A... Thanks anyway.
I don't know the causes of hangs and crashes really. I've had a Note 1 before, that never ran reliably. But Android matured a lot since that time.
This is by far the best Android experience I've had with Samsung. I'm on a custom ROM and kernel though.
I've had the 10.5 tab s for a little more than a month, use it all day (boring job). Have had 0 issues with crashing or slowness. Absolutely love this tablet. Just wish I had waited for the holiday sales.
You won't need 100% brightness most of the time. Auto setting works just fine, neverhad an issue. It also has 2 power saving modes to help keep it going when you really need it.
Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Honor 8 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I have not experience any form of heating where I could bake anything, but enough to make me aware of it. Of course heat during mapping is normal, gaming wise....I actually think it has been descent. Played Asphalt 8 for a good 30 minutes (thats my gaming time frame on regular basis) with nothing out of the norm. Could be better.

It's probably due to the Kirin SoC, which is power efficient.

I always suspect it at much, though I find myself lacks of love to Kirin SoC due to almost no progress on custom development, and some sites reported poor performance of it, but I myself, who never play (or have any intention to play) any games on mobile device, use them strictly to communication usage (and some web surfing), I find Huawei's tradeoff performance over heat and battery life might very good concept.
I never care about synthetic benchmarks. I just need a device that can last long and stays cool all the times with my activities, and it never lags. My most demanding tasks might be watching 3-7 minutes of YouTube's videos for some times or navigating the roads with GPS.
But just like almost anyone else here, I can't stand the EMUI, just no. Still hoping Huawei will fully support custom dev with their new commitment.

We all hope huawei try to push sources for dev always and ASAP
tends to warm up a lil bit, bt no overheating.
Glad to know there is no overheating.
Mine gets really hot when you work the camera(s).
Every single phone on the market will overheat. Some overheat very easily, and some take a while, but is not a one that will not get hot until it melts (even if it takes months of you playing asfault to do it ). If you wanted a practical answer though.... no, my friend has one and it doesn't get too hot when playing a game on it for a few hours.
Once I almost burned my hand while playing on my OnePlus One and charging it. This phone keeps lower temperatures than my OPO so that's a plus for me.
This is a topic I am really interested.
My present phones, the LG G2 and the OnePlus One, get really hot, specially in the Summer. The LG G2 is the worst, as it has everything in the same place, and the Snapdragon 800 is a little less refined than the 801.
I do not play on my smartphone, and I only use GPS once a month.
I use my phone to comunicate (call, text, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Viber), track my packages (Deliveries), watch some videos on YouTube and search quickly something on the internet.
I am a light user, but when I do something, that thing needs to be done quickly and right.
So, heat is a no-no for me.
This SoC seems to be a better option, even against the Snapdragon 820, which was my previous SoC of choice.
Actually this Honor 8 tends to get warm. And when you use the camera for some minutes it gets really really hot in the upper part.

What do you mean by using the camera?
- Having it open while trying the features;
- Taking multiple shots;
- Making a video;
- Taking HDR photos; or
- Other use, please describe your usage.

Simply having it open. It overheats very quickly. Seems to be an issue with Huawei p9 too, an owner told me.

In my opinion, I suspect that is a software issue.
To have a better performance and take pictures very quickly, the CPU and GPU are taken to the limit and have a more aggressive governor and higher minimum frequency.
I don't know. Could be for the dual camera though. Whose usefulness, by the way, is at least dubious.

Yes, I agree.
At least on the heating problem.
From the review of Pocketnow, it is clear than it has a positive affect on the dynamic range of the photos. HDR becomes obsolete, which is a good thing, as HDR uses more power from the phone, takes more time and requires to be still for longer.
Look, I've experimented with the cameras in every light condition. Covering the mono sensor and leaving it active. I myself could not really tell a single difference between the photos taken.I really don't.
I don't know how you are getting it hot. I have played games. Used the light for extended periods of time. Used maps. Camera, video. It has never been as hot as other phones I have used.

Thank you for sharing your experience.
Surprised to see there still isn't a sticky for rating this phone, so here goes.
The rating will be out of 10, with 10 being the best and 1 the worst.
Display - 9/10
Performance - 10/10
Camera - 6/10
Battery Life - 8/10
Idle Battery Drain - 5/10
Running Temperature - 9/10
Development Friendliness (Rooting/Modding) - 4/10
Running On - MIUI 12.5.5 Global
Starting with the display, it is very good but I noticed at certain angles there is a slight blue tint to the screen (only visible during low light conditions). And I have noticed quite a bit of black crush on this phone, but you get used to it.
Performance is really great. No complaints here. Be it casual browsing, youtube or heavy gaming, it has handled all of them very well.
Camera is average at best. The "painting" effect is evident especially when zooming in on faces. Not complaining though since this is really not a camera phone. It also helps that I rarely take photos.
Battery life during normal usage is good but not the best because of the limited battery size. I usually get a whole day of usage (no gaming) without a problem. Also note that I use my phone on the 120fps setting always.
Now I had to make a separate category for idle drain as I have heard many people complain of this, and have myself experienced this. Especially after the battery goes below 20% the idle drain is quite noticeable. Still I wouldn't quite call it a deal-breaker but it is a bit annoying.
On the temperature front, I have yet to have this phone get uncomfortably hot even during gaming. Mind you, it does get warm during intense gaming but never HOT. And obviously during everyday browsing/youtube it stays cool.
Development friendliness is what has really disappointed me. The rooting process alone is quite a bit more tricky thanks to newer android versions being less modification friendly. After reading post after post of people bricking their phones because of some obscure rule/requirement (either by Xiaomi or Google itself) and after my own experience of trying to root this phone, I must say this phone is one of the least dev friendly phones I have seen.
Well then, let's hear your ratings!
my phone well it's something special
for the price, everything is 10/10

Except camera, for the price I would give 8/10
0/10 all
Overall, I would rate my phone Mi 11X a solid 8. Except for the camera, and fingerprint sensor(not a big fan of power button+finger print sensor) everything is good with the phone. Oh yeah that weird proximity sensor bug too.

Thanks for sharing, this thread is for the Poco F3 though.
Display - 9/10
Performance - 10/10
Camera - 8/10 (GCam)
Battery Life - 7/10 (underclocked CPU, undervolted GPU)
Idle Battery Drain - 8/10 (SuperFreezZ + Battery Saver)
Running Temperature - 9/10
Development Friendliness (Rooting/Modding) - 7/10
Running On - HavocOS 4.13
Worst bugs: proximity sensor, power consumption with AOD.
With some tweaks the F3 is a useful, powerful and enduring phone with some restrictions. Without the tweaks it's not worth the money (imho). There was not just one moment when I regretted switching from F1.
I'm wondering what kinda battery life you get on the zfold3. When I opened youtube with the big screen on my accusatory app says it dr omegle ains 32%/hr does anyone else have any knowledge of if this is normal rate or high? I got it on ebay so I'm trying to make sure that everything is running as expected.
...
Also if I open lifeafter and play it while fast charging the back of the phone gets really realty hot! Think it was in the 120-130° range xender and screen goes really dim. Anyone else experience this on any slightly more demanding games?
When I watch videos on YouTube with the Fold open I have the same behavior as you, I reduced this by forcing the refresh to 48hz on the videos. For games I don't know, however it consumes when open.
Use manual brightness control and keep below 50% Display brightness sucks a lot of battery.
Using dark mode and wallpaper helps too.
Black pixels use no power... darker ones use a lot less.
Once the OS learns your usage patterns, you should experience much better battery life. That usually take around a month or 2.

Lol, it never worked that I saw. Google global power management and it's tarded buckets will also cause erratic behaviors that can't be resolved unless you turn it off.
Hand optimizing is better, harder to do... but it works.
