Phone keeps rebooting randomly unless plugged in - Lenovo ZUK Z2 (Plus) Questions & Answers

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a definite answer anywhere. So my Lenovo Z2 plus is rooted and was flashed with Flyme OS. I was playing pubg and halfway through the game, my phone rebooted. I thought maybe my battery drained but I tried to reboot anyway thinking that atleast it will boot up to show 0% battery, but it didn't. After plugging it in, it would work again for some time then randomly reboot. And when I would reboot it myself, it stops right after the logo.it only moves further if I plug in the charger. So if it's a battery problem, why does it always reboot at that precise moment. And when it reboots randomly, it's not even hot - the screen, the back, anything. Sometimes it works for hours and would suddenly stop, sometimes it works only for a few minute after unplugging. There's no specific app that triggers this. I even changed the ROM to AEX 5.8, and the problem persists. Is it genuinely a battery problem or is it related to bootloader or anything. Because it does not reboot while in twrp. Any help would be appreciated

Battery dead.
Change battery

HI, im also have that exact same issue but now its back to normal.
What i have done is go to the nearest any phone service, tell them what ur problem and they will check the battery.
As long as ur battery not bloated, theres a chance the battery can be fixed.
In my case, the service guy said it was the cable connector issues and then they fixing the battery.
Now my phone back to normal, and it only cost 100.000 rupiah (7 dollars), but make sure if it works on you too, just charge it untill fully recharged before use, just like the first time
Sorry for my english hope it helps..

Take it to a local repair shop tell them to take a look and check if there is any defect or loose connection

Change the battery.

Sir I was on AEX 6.4 and updated to 6.6.
Everything worked fine for a week then I started getting random reboots, first while playing PUBG. I thought it must be due to high heat during playing.
Then I got while clicking 2-3 images on camera.
Now my phone doesn't boot up.
I wiped everything and format data.
And installed 6.6 .
But still I got that problem.
The next day my phone wasn't booting. Whenever k tried booting it stuck on bootloop.
I wiped everything and flashed again. It booted for the first boot and then when I restart it goes to boot loop. I switch of and leave the phone for 2 hours and again boot it works normally, if I restart then again boot loop. I tried AEX 5.8 but still same problem.
I wrote on xda, they said battery problem.
But my phone easily boot in TWRP even when bootlooping.
I go to repair shop he say battery working good,no problem. But I still say to change the battery.
He installed new battery and the problem still exists.
Please help me.
Guide me through the right process.

Anyone find any solution for this problem... I am getting the same issue.

Battery at 40% -> Phone shuts down

Hi, my cousin's arc is acting weird. It doesn't happen all the time so it is hard for me know what is exactly wrong.
1) When the battery was at 40%, the phone shuts down. This happened once when I was playing with it and I thought maybe I mistaken 4% for 40.
Then a few days later.
2) My cousin noticed the battery was at 40%, he left the phone in his pocket and it shuts down. So now I think last time when I was playing with it, it wasn't a mistake.
Then when the phone is pluged in, it will be low on battery e.g. 4 percent. He doesn't use the phone a lot so it should last a day or two before it need to be charged again from fully charged. But the phone just shut down at 40percent today.
So now it is hard for me to know what is wrong with it. Is it due to battery being defected? Problem with the phone itself? Or might be some apps that caused the problem?
It is running on 2.3.3 Rogers firmware. Stock, not rooted etc. He had the phone for a week and it happened 2-3 times already.
Thanks.
You could try repairing it via SEUS but you will lose all data. Make a back up.
It could be that the phone has stored incorrect limits for the battery - a factory reset should solve this.
However, it seems more likely to me that the battery is faulty.
Thanks for these suggestions. I have searched the forum quite a bit last night and there were a few others looked like the problem I am having. So going to try out those methods first. Then the suggestions in this thread.
Has he tried running the phone flat, then take out the battery and charge it with the phone off till completion. Mine used to shutdown anytime after 20% ; after doing this it never has again. Shot in the dark ... worth the effort.
Any update??

Was the issue resolved? What all things did you try?
Nope, the best I got is 20% then to 1% then shutdown. It is in repair centre now.
I have tried repairing, reflashing, battery widget etc, everything I can find on xda and it didn't work.
Updates
It came back from the repair center and did not get repaired, it was phone being sent only. It still had the problem.
Then sent it again (good thing it is just 20 mins drive on highway) and left the phone and battery there.
Now got phone back, battery is replaced (since I think it was battery being faulty). Now it is at 29% percent and looking good.
I will update this thread if I got more. I am leaving this thread here so others who have this problem and tried all the suggested methods on xda and failed, it means that your battery is faulty!

[Q] Gnex works but no cold boot

Couple of weeks ago my gnex fail to start a boot after my battery used up to %0. I used a wall charger but it did not help, I mean there were no charging screen, no boot animation, no vibration that indicate start boot. I assumed battery was so low, it would not boot enough to charge, so I used an cheap battery charger to charge the battery, then everything worked as expected. this happened one more time, that made me think there was a issue about the rom or some software, but I did not act on it. Then a few days ago my phone rejected to try to boot even with full battery.
I search the forums, and find out connecting to wall charger then inserting battery will trigger a boot, and it really did. Then I flashed official google image to see if it fixes the issue but no luck, then I tried odin flash with repartitioning, still no luck.
Currently I am on full stock on my gnex. If I shut it down, no matter which button/combination I try, it won't trigger a boot. If I connect to a wall charger while battery is in, screen does not turn on and charging does not start. If I remove the battery, connect to wall charger, then insert the battery, charging screen came up, then if I press power button for ~5 second it boots to android like everything is okey, and after boot starts, I can disconnect the charger, no issues about battery.
I have no clue what might be causing this. Power button works, battery works, rom/software works, are there anyone with some ideas what might be causing this?
it is very interesting. may it be battery problem?

I tried a friends battery on my device, and my battery on his, mine did not boot, but his one did, I don't think there are anything wrong with battery.
It boots now but unstable
Hi again. Not booting issue seems to be fixed (without doing anything) but now it reboots when I try to download anything. I used stability test to check if cpu or gpu has any issue, the test did not found any issue.
I am suspecting my internal storage causing this issues, but I could not find any tool to check/fix it. Are there anyone that knows a way to do so?
I wanted to report back my last status. The phone is working normally know. I tried out flashing different kernels, and at some point, random reboots stopped. To verify, I downloaded several GB of files, tested with antutu and 3dmark, everything looks normal.
Long story short, I have no idea how it got fixed, but it did. I suggest anybody with my situation to keep trying, I bought a g2 thinking it would not be usable, I regret that decision now.

Optimus G shuts down while flashing

Hi guys
My Optimus G is dying on a slowly and painful way...This time I have the following problem:
Phone was working perfect except for its battery life (lasting 5 hours at max), but it started to turn off by itself randomly.
Then, I started to bootloop, when I decided to flash another ROM, but now, everytime that try to flash ANYTHING the phone turns off while flashing. I can perform full wipe, but when I try to flash, power goes off.
Is there anything that can do? Is it completely dead?
Thank you guys!
i think i have the same problem, but mine shuts down while booting, i can flash roms normally.
still have to wait for my battery to arrive, going to change it to find out if it fix the problem

It seems very similar to what is happening with me. Tomorrow I'll try to put the phone back to the stock rom and see if it works.
As soon as I do it, I post the if it works.
i have tried flashing stock 4.1.2 and it work a little bit better. but i need to boot it while plug in. when its booted it stays on. the phone shuts it self down when receiving calls. Did not try any other apps while it's on still have it stock.
I don't know why this is happening, is it so that now a days you can't keep your phone longer than you expected, problem came up after a few years,so they force you to replace your phone once a while.

Yeah...When I bought this phone I was living in Korea and couldn't use due carrier's problems. Then I moved back to my homecountry and that phone, after 8 months of usage almost exploded while charging (an absurd overheat)...Since that, the phone started with battery issues and ghost touches problems. The ghost touches stopped and I replaced the battery but now it doesn't work at all. How the hell LG makes a premium device (highend in 2013) that couldn't last a year after unboxing???? That's why I've decided to move back to Motorola, Samsung and HTC...My Galaxy Nexus could resist the meteor that killed the dinosaurs, and this crappy Optimus G can't even CHARGE without destroying itself.
Another LG device? Never!
i just replace my battery, and my phone is work like new again. For now my problem is fixed
new T-5 battery saved my phone. Replaced it yesterday. Phone is back on Sling rom

LG G3 Dead

Having a bit of a nightmare day! I have a 855 G3 and have had it around 18 months. Its rooted, and has been running ok.
Today, I was using the phone, then had to do something. When I went back to it, it was off and wont come back on.
I have tried lots of things - removing battery and plugging in, leaving battery out for a while, trying to plug in without battery, holding down various buttons in various sequences, pluging into the PC - and nothing at all.
One time I took the battery off and plugged it in, I did get a display that indicated there was no battery installed. I then put the battery one and a charging screen came up for a few moments, then it went dead again.
Anything else I can try, or has it got to go off for repair?
I saw this http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3/general/guide-fix-hard-brick-recovery-guide-t3132359 but I don't want to do that if I can still get a repair under warranty.
Its bought from Amazon Germany and I have to send it back to them, they are happy to repair it. Is it going to be a problem that its been rooted?
One last question. I need to buy a cheap, but reasonable phone to keep me going in the meantime. Any suggestions? Saw a Moto G 2nd gen.
same thing happened with me as well Mine is US Cellular G3

I think I have tried everything now. Ordered a new battery to try, which should arrive in the next few hours but I am not holding my breath. So, looks like its got to go back to Germany and hopefully they will repair or replace it!

Too bad , and yes believe me new battery might not solve it , but then keep your fingers crossed.
all the best
New battery just arrived. So, I put it in and it started to boot! The LG logo came up, I got excited and then....bang turned off! Very strange.
Sort of the same happened to me today. Let's hope is battery.
My G3 shut down suddenly although battery was at apologize 75%, blue screen and splash logo and flickering and then black screen.
After some time I managed to boot up and then 2-3 minutes later...off again. Repeating procedure, booting up and then immediately booting twrp. I thought something is wrong with my setup: fulmics 3.7 and xceed kernel latest nightly; managed to restore a backup (stock rooted MM) and everything was fine.
Phone boot up normally, apps beginning to update, made a few calls...and then...boom...shut down with the same flickering to blue screen. I hope is battery issue related. My phone is from August of 2014 and a bit abused since December (MM update).

Same here, no recovery, no download mode, nothing... I've tried shorting the pins and using boardiag (tests are all PASS except for SDRAM which I've been told it needs a power source to boot the device a.k.a battery ) so i highly suspect it's a battery thing
Sent mine back today. Got a Moto G to keep me going in the meantime.
Mine is now on the way back to me after a quick turnaround. Not sure what they have done to repair as can't log on to the repair tracking website for some reason, but will find out next week when it arrives.
Still waiting, but I now have the repair report. The phone they are sending back has a different serial number, so I presume they are sending a new/refurb phone?
I've sent my phone(with the same symptoms) last week in service under warranty although it was rooted and from service center I have a tracking information that it was repaired (probably mobo replaced). So, I will know for sure in a couple of days

My friend is dead:( SM T800 random boots

I don't know what happened, but my true friend is probably deadly ill and she's dying.
My Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 after almost 3.5 years of really hard work, 8h daily of SOT, hard CPU tasks, loading battery two times a day, started to do strange random reboots.
I was installing Blue Filter app, reading big pdf and sending this PDF from Xodo to Voice Aloud reader. Tablet was connected to charger from Moto X Style, which is turbo power charger. I saw first reboot, then other and next. Entered Cwn Twrp, cleaned cache but the problem still existed. Cleaned system, internal storage and tried to flash Iron ROM again. Strange, but tablet couldn't flash Iron ROM 3.2 gauge showed 100%, almost after beginning of installing ROM. I decided to flash 4 elements repair ROM with Odin, but it didn't help. Checked erase NAND, flashed correct pit file.
Strange, but while flashing with Odin, there were no reboots, so downloading mode is working properly. But after install, reboots returned, almost after running system first time.
Maybe it depends on ROM version? I flashed 4 files of 4.4.2 with Odin, while I was on 6.0.1 earlier?
But reboots started on proper ROM.
Also, maybe charger is responsible? Moto X Style 3A charger maybe damaged memory or motherboard of my friend?
Do you think that exchanging the battery may help? My battery when it was loading frequently showed a red cross, it can be that it's damaged, but random reboots never happened to me.
I don't want to buy new device, it's really stupid for me to spend hundreds of dollars every two, there years. I believe that a device should work 5 years or longer. Maybe corporations make devices especially to die after warranty period?
Can you help me to determine what is damaged?
It was my true friend, carrying tons of books with a thin device, reading big pdfs smoothly, making notes tons of paintings, editing photos and taking photos with my Nikon D610 via USB, listening to music with A.r.i.s.e , watching photography tutorials and movies, modern Combat 4 tons of hours, notes, showing portfolio to my clients... Yes I love my small friend, can you help me to rescue it?
You can see the behaviour here
Are the reboots happening even while plugged in or only after unplugging the charging cable?
Also is the percentage reading being sporadic meaning it changes every time it shuts off?
Replacing the battery is fairly cheap and easy on this model.
Here is a guide:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Samsung+Galaxy+Tab+S+8.4+Battery+Replacement/51359
Where to buy a replacement battery:
https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Parts/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-S-8-4-Battery/IF252-014-1
If for some reason it still has the same issue after replacing battery then the battery connector needs to be looked at under microscope. It may have a loose connection to the board meaning it would need to be resoldered.
Dear Benjamen, thanks for your help. Tab reboots even if it's plugged to charger. The percentage is strange, one time it shows 40%, another time beeps and shows low power warning.
Sometimes it works 5 minutes without reboot, some times boots many times continuously.
Do you think it's battery? No EMMC error or some chip damaged on motherboard?
Download mode Odin worked good, also CWRP worked without reboots.
Maybe internal storage is damaged?
What do you think?
If it is battery I can surely exchange it like you wrote.
You can see the behaviour of tablet on YouTube I've posted above.
Have you tried to reinstall Twrp and a custom rom besides Iron Rom and doing a clean flash? Also I was thinking it might be a corrupted sd card try to remove the sd card and reboot see if that works I had a tablet once that was going bonkers cause the sd card was messed up , it might not be it but could always try it. Also make sure your on the proper boot loader for the rom you are trying to flash iron rom thread actually has a link to all the current boot loaders if i remember correctly. I do own this device and run a custom nougat rom no issues, just shooting out some ideas but you are right this is great device and should last a long time.

Sounds like battery connector has loose soldering. Take it to a reputable repair shop that does soldering and tell them to check the battery connector and see if it needs resoldering. That's how I ended up fixing it with the same symptoms that you had.
Edit: Forgot to tell you but I cant play the YouTube video, maybe the embedded video link is invalid so can you send me the youtube link?
Mine has been doing the exact same thing for a couple of days now.
I'm running LineageOS 14.1.
Random reboots both with the charger connected and disconnected, Battery percentage is around 45% most of the time, but jumps to 0% or 100%.
I've already replaced the battery with a "new" one (about 12 months old, according to the label), but to no avail.
Any ideas? I really like this device and would not want to buy a replacement...
brot2
My SM-T800 started doing something strange like this yesterday. As I was watching Youtube and reading a news site in split screen mode, the screen suddenly went blank (it didn't shut down, but went blank at once). Before this happened, I saw a warning that my battery charge was below 15%. After powering on the tablet, my charge was 28%. I opened youtube and a web browser again, and the screen went blank within a minute. After powering on, I decided that I will not be using split screen mode again, but the screen eventually went blank. I monitored the CPU temperature and it didn't seem like it was running too warm (50ish C). I will try re-calibrating the battery (if that's even possible) and even replacing one, but if that doesn't help I guess it's time to move on to something new. Sadly, four years after the T800, nobody made a worthy replacement (the leaked Tab S4 specs look good, but they want to charge laptop prices for that).
PS: It's running the stock rooted (later unrooted) MM 6.0.1 from November 2016 with TWRP.
I re-calibrated battery and the tablet seems to be working fine so far.

Okay first of all very big thank you for your replies
my Galaxy Tab S 1 except strange reboots is also overheating when it has some tasks to do measured temperature on CPU cores is getting around 80 degrees Celsius and is going up and then tablet gets restart so I don't know if it is only the problem with battery maybe it's connected with CPU problems or other electrical problems on MotherBoard.
It's worth to mention, that I've charged the tab with charger from Moto X Style, that is Turbo Charger, with 3A, and the Tab S1 can load with 2A only.

Here's the link to movie with Tab behaviour again, can you see it now?

My tablet used to have a damaged main-board that used to overheat. However, the screen did not go blank when that happened. I actually got some kind of message that said that the tablet is overheating. This was fixed after I replaced the mainboard. You can certainly try it, but these things were not cheap when I did it.
Mine also started doing this last month now it wont power on but resets till the battery is dead.
Did you get it fixed?

I'm seeing random shutdowns with no warning popup on heat but the screen area where the motherboard is sure gets hot. I replaced the battery and same result. I looked at the battery connector and looks OK, seems tight but I didn't check with a magnifying glass. Where did you source your motherboard?
Also how has everyone elese resolved this? I see people citing the problem on this old thread but I'm curioius if you found a resolution.
