S9 Battery Health at 93% Straight out of Box - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

How is 93% Battery Health Possible on first day of use? I also checked through file explorer and it read 2808 EDIT: now reads 2794 for my battery capacity. This is straight out of the box. (please see attached Samsung Info pic)

For me it was 92,...% I don't think these measurments are accurate, since these apps aren't made by Samsung...

Mine is at 100%, what is the manufacturing date of your phone? It's printed on the white sticker on the back of the phone, mine was nov 18.

March? And it's brand new? Looks like it's been sitting on a shelf for 9 months, might explain the battery degradation.

Yes and brand new! I thought the manufacturing date played into it too, but I don't think the batteries are supposed to degrade that quickly from what I know? Also it arrived with 60% charge

Bro I don't think these are accurate results, Accubattery shows a different percentage every time, and samsung info results are also different than accubattery... So don't worry about it, just take care of your battery ana charge it as you should do, and everything will be just fine.
My phone is manifactured in 11-05-2018

You're right, that date should have nothing to do with it. There are probably a ton of S9's sitting on shelves with that date. I'd suspect the app more than anything.

wow yours is brand new and showed 92% ! All this stuff is very annoying I thought it was an issue because I experienced quick battery drain too.

What I noticed on reddit people with newer manufacturing dates had 98% - 100% health reporting on all ways of checking. People who had the phone since launch have like 88% - 93% I didn't even know it was a thing until I saw so many threads about it and I guess you start to wonder what's going on with your battery. I did notice it draining quickly but that could have been because it was not calibrated yet idk.

I also notice a battery drain, especially compared to my friend's S9, we got them from the same place in the same month... And we are using the same settings, idk why...

This is way over thinking the battery thing. Yes, fast charging will hurt the battery life a little and not charging over 80% will probably give you a few more charging cycles. So don't worry about passing this phone down to your grandchildren, just charge the hell out if it and use it like you want. If you're like most people, then I doubt you'll even have the phone 3 or 4 years ftom now. Almost everything you read about batteries either dates back to the old nicad batteries or is a myth. So use it, charge it like you want and you'll be like 99.99% of everyone else that won't be replacing the phone because of the battery.

GTMax 3500 mAh battery - Poor battery life still

I was wondering how many people got these on sale(12 bucks on amazon) and what results they got.
Ive had mine through a couple charge cycles now and im not impressed at all, doesnt feel like its doubled my battery life.
Im at 80% after 2 hours, with only 16 minutes of screen on time. This might actually be worse than stock. The battery summary doesnt show any major drain from apps, and go launchers running app list doesnt show anything out of the ordinary either.
Im running Faux 0.9/Juggernaut 4.1/Litening theme
Im not sure what else I can do, battery is draining ridiculously fat.
It could be just be a defective one. Some custom roms dont recognize the batter stats properly as well. Try exchanging the battery for a new one and also try a different rom. Also try Wipe Battery Stats in clockworkmod recovery.

Hmm, thats kinda scary, would reflashing a rom from scratch fix that?
Also, google has stated wiping stats does nothing, thats a recent development.
As for exchanging, its from amazon, it took 3 weeks to ship this one to me lol.
It might be defective, it did take 9 hours to charge. 3500/650 should be ~ 5.3 hours, but maybe this is why it was on sale for 12 bucks.
Yes, the myth was that wiping battery stats improves the overall battery life but I was not saying this in hopes of improving it. I was just saying to see if it will correctly display how much battery life you have on your rom because one time I had a problem where my battery life stayed at 100% and after wiping it it correctly displayed how much I had left.
If it takes 9 hours to charge then I think its very likely that you do have a defective one. Rechargeble batteries tend to show that kind of symptom when you charge it often without letting it drain first. Try completely draining your battery below 10% and fully charge without stopping (dont pull the plug). If the battery life is still the same and it still takes around 9 hours to charge then I think its safe to say you do you have a defective one.
Also, please double check that the particular battery that you have is compatible with SGS2 Hercules model. Look at the battery information and compare it to the stock one. Make sure the voltages match.
I flashed Mr X's kernel, since Faux has been off since 0.07 for me.
When i charged it last night, it was from 0%, and it took around 3 hours to reach 34%, so im estimating the 9 hours based on that.
The stickers on it say 'Replacement for Hercules T989' Li-Ion 3.7v, i dont have my stock battery atm so i cant see if its the same, ill check that later.
I find it faster to charge using the usb plug converter instead of off the laptop using the usb cable. If I were you, I'd just use the stock battery until the new one ships in. I believe that's your best bet.
I may not even seek a replacement. It was 12 bucks, shipping would cost half the cost of the battery, and it would take them 3-4 weeks to ship another. The original order took 3.5 weeks to be delivered.

Peal off the cover of the battery. It should say how big the battery actually is. I highly doubt its 3500. But you never know

I was about to say this. You more or less likely got a fake Chinese battery that claims it's "..." mAh, but in reality it's significantly less. I've seen this happen too many times on the EVO 3D forums.

I was excited to get this battery thinking that it would atleast give me one and half times more backup than the original. However, the backup i'm getting is not any better than the original battery. I will see for a couple of more days and if it is still same, i'll move back to the original battery and keep this one as back up. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Most cheaper priced batteries out there engage in false advertising. Don't believe the mah numbers you see even if they are the same as the stock oem battery. Its cheap for a reason just like the fake micro sd/flash drives for sale at Ebay. There are also shady vendors in Amazon who pump up their own ratings by leaving positive reviews especially the "ProdiCell" cell phone battery brand. With the exception of Seido and Muge, I would only stick with Samsung oem batteries. The Samsung Nexus extended oem 2100 mah battery is really good for $24.99 (50% off 49.99 at the Verizon store). I do see the extra 14% life. I went 34 hours the other day on stock 2.3.6 before my phone died. I actually ran 30mins of video at the end to run out the charge.
Ill try this out with synergy, since faux i heard was a drainer, and if no luck ill stick my stock battery in and continue to use my ballistic case. Ill also give it one more day.
Never tried an alternative battery till this one, and if im gonna go bulky again ill get that 3900 mah mugen, since that appears to be the real deal.

Source for GOOD batteries?

I'm getting pissed with all the POS oem batteries for the S3 these days. Is going to Samsung direct my only option to get a GENUINE one? I don't see where they sell them and I don't trust eBay based on experience.
I know you can get them at Office Depot. Or you could at least, several months ago.

Great I'll look into it.
Are you certain your issues are the batteries and not your setup and use of your device?
There are lots of things that can lead to miserable battery life even on the most solid of batteries.

Sure. Brand new phone just purchased. Very few programs installed. Battery used was purchased off eBay. When indicator light showed fully charged I unplugged. Battery remaining went immediately from 100% to 88%. After 6 hours of light use, battery was already down to 40%. Within 20 minutes it fell off the cliff and phone turned off ... basically fully discharged.
Next, stock battery installed. 1 day 12 hours later battery still shows 55% remaining.

In that case I'd recommend Monster ZeroLemon 7000 MAh again.People here on XDA have really tried to suck every drop of juice out of it. It had stood all that abuse very well. Buy it from Amazon so you have solid Return Policy in case of trouble.

Thanks, I'll seriously consider it though the added thickness is a concern. If I could get 2 extra batteries close to the performance of the stock battery and at a combined price close to the ZeroLemon I would be satisfied.
How long does it typically take to charge one of those monsters?

I don't think their form factor would have issues with the SIII's casing.
I do believe they take roughly 4 hours or so with Samsung's original Charger. I don't have one myself so I have second hand information. It is true that if you have a Fast Charge Kernel, this is further reduced. I am guessing, if you charge off of a PC, of course it will practically take forever to finish
My 1 year old stock battery goes me 3 days if on Standby all the time.It will last 1 & 1/2 to 2 days if I use conservatively.
Just fyi, fast charge kernels only make a difference when plugged into a PC and maybe a DC (car) outlet. And correct that the batteries should be the same size and ought to work fine. Only real thing to make note of is if you use any NFC features make sure the battery you get has this capability.

Bit OT here, but my regular Kernel KT747, now (in recent version) has special code for the 11th pin of the MHT port. So I am given to understand the Fast Charge thus implemented actually affects the way it charges off wall. I am testing since yesterday.
The theory behind fast charge kernels is that when you plug into a PC it detects the data connection and limits charging to 500ma or so. Fast charge kernels allow you to disable the data connection, thereby fooling it into thinking it's plugged into a normal charger and bypassing that limit.
The extra pins don't have anything to do with charging. Only 4 of them do. Before fast charge kernels were introduced people would sometimes short two of the wires in the connector (usually with solder) to accomplish the same thing.
As I understand it the 11 pins are just used with the MHL adapter for HD output. They don't have anything to do with charging. Otherwise a basic USB cable probably wouldn't even work.
I believe there are a few in depth write-ups about fast charge kernels here on xda if you want to search for more info on it.

OEM battery shipped to canada

can anyone recommend a good place to buy an oem battery that ships to canada or from canada ideally? thanks in advance...
http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_no...arch-alias=aps&field-keywords=nexus+5+battery
thanks did you happen to order one of those?
Sent from my Nexus 9
No, I live in the states, just did a quick check, the just make sure that it looks like you are purchasing from a reputable seller.
I have ordered from http://www.repairsuniverse.com before, and they do international shipping, I wasn't sure at first so I didn't post them up.
Btw, what part of Canada are you in?
Same boat as you, located in Canada and needed a new battery for my N5.
Ordered from purebrindle on ebay (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/252020872255?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT) and it was counterfeit. Battery was DOA
Then ordered from gdcdirect on ebay (http://www.ebay.ca/itm/261431163466?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT) and it works great. A little expensive but worth it for a reputable seller imo.
Hope this helps
thanks for the posts... after all the 5x dealbreaker leaks im keeping the n5 so need a new battery...currently living in alberta...
Sent from my Nexus 9
just to follow up it seems the battery from gdc direct is fake...it didn't say lg on the back like original, can literally see it drain with screen on and seems to stick around 29 °c all the time...at this point im probably just getting the oneplusx ...
called LG canada and they told me this place sells the original battery and its just under $60 CDN...should have done this in the first place
https://www.reliableparts.ca/locations
just to follow up the battery i bought from the LG Canada recommended place (relieableparts.ca) is a real battery...its more money but at least i have a real battery that will last a few years (and not blow up)
in the process of returning the fake battery from gdcdirect on ebay...hes making it really hard and wanting me to ship back the fake battery to get a refund...avoid this seller!

does the battery stay at 29 C? if so its fake...im not an expert but i think all real OEM batterys are made by LG but maybe there are some sony
here is an image i got off reddit that compares real to fake:
What should I do to test battery voltage? I assume plugging in to charge? That should heat up the battery, right? or no?
Also, if temperature is fixed at 29.0C, it is fake? is that what you are saying?
How much in temperature change should I be seeing?
**update, when phone is idle I see a temp of 29.4C, when I plug in to AC to charge it dropped to 28.9C within seconds.
I'll check after a bit and see what temp I see.
I did take a picture of the battery I bought before installing... here it is. Seems legit but than again... whom ever made the print can print how ever they can.... so can't really rely on that.
have no idea about voltage just talking temp here..
fake batteries just stay around 29c where a real one will have a much different range of temps (if you never see temps other than 28/29 very good chance you have a fake)

Battery health

My device has 2 weeks and was charged only 6 or 7 times, but AccuBattery reports that my battery has capacity of 2800 mAh instead of expected 3000 mAh, which gives 93% health.
I know that these are only estimates, but at my previous device, Xperia Z it was very close to official specification (99%).
Should I worry about my OnePlus and already submit a warranty ticket, or maybe battery in this phone is really that weak? Might someone post his results from this or similar app?
Bought my op3 and it's measuring less than 2800MAh, I'm getting pretty good battery life so I don't know if the app is just not accurate or what.

Ok, thanks for info. I hope that app itself really can't measure it precisely and it's not OnePlus way to achieve shorter charging times for DashCharge, a marketing purpose

Maybe AccuBattery detects wrong amps during charging/discharging per 1%. I think that's how it estimates total battery capacity. At least I hope so.

What about today? The same health? This is a scary topic.
2771mAh for me. Don't expect an app to be able to do these calculations accurately. My battery is still fine.
Anyway, there something strange here, i can't find any replacement battery for OP3 with the "original mAh" i found only 2450mAh in any site that i search for it.

Don't get scared about that issue. My OP works great even without 3000mAh, I easily can get 5 days of standby, with normal usage, only with turned off phone at night
Edit: Maybe easily is too much said, I use 50% pixel filter and Efficiency battery mode, then OP consumes 20% battery per day. But even without it you can still get 3-4 days, with some calls and photos made, plus some time spent on the Feedly

FUN FACT: After 15 months, measured battery capacity is 81%, or about 2430mAh.

Hello, I recently received a brand new U11 to test drive and I depleted it and my HTC 10 which I have owned for 15 months. I then use a USB meter and my HTC 10 only charged to 81% of what the U11 charged to.
81% of 3000mAh = 2430mAh
Just some fun facts for those of us who have used the phone for an extended period of time or what to expect if you plan on owning it for this length of time.
Sounds about right, this is why I really miss removable batteries

Though this is a shame, I'm afraid that it's nothing special
Becuse of the QC3.0 , no body should use it unless if he in harry
@RogerF81 I agree its nothing special in my results; batteries are supposed to degrade overtime. It just using a device with 2430mAh is VERY noticeable.
Imagine buying a high end spec device with only 2430mAh. lol

When I do your test, I get Full charge: 3049000, does that mean it's 100 % (I don't have a USB meter) ? I have owned my HTC 10 for about 13 months.
@Cro Cop
Nope, that tests implies you never reset your phone and never erased battery stats, which most people on XDA have every time they flash a new ROM. You are probably near the 80-85% capacity mark.
Can you please try accubattery app to see how it's results compare to your more rigorous method. Accubattery states my capacity is 76% or 2277mAh. However it states it will get more accurate over charging cycles. I've had the phone since release day. Now switched off fast charge!

But I did wipe battery stats several times at least (read somewhere it makes no difference) and flashed a RUU (reset) before nougat upgrade..
Accubattery also shows 100 % battery health based on 15 charging sessions
The battery life is atrocious even when new. I am afraid.
Using Accubattery I have an estimated 83% battery capacity, however this phone was replaced in February via Uh-Uh coverage. I broke the screen in my original phone and they gave me a replacement unit (To me it seems this was the case since the exterior was flawless again and I was given a phone with a new IMEI). It has been 6 months and I don't think I am such a heavy user to have degraded the battery that fast, does anybody think this might be resolved by taking the phone back for warranty? I even wonder if it is possible at this point :/ (My original 10 was bought may 2016 practically at launch) Thanks!
Really hoping LG V30/G7 has a removable battery
This is from my old M8, not sure how to read this and what level 2 health means.

As per Android website 2 means Good.

That's pretty good for an old device. Probably cause it's before the quick charge tech
@LibertyMonger
Good would just mean the battery is functioning. You could only have 50 percent of your cells left and it would still say "Good".
@gsw5700
I used AccuBattery and got 80% or 2,397mAh for estimated capacity, so my previous math was correct.
Damn! So accuBattery is correct, next phone needs to have removable battery, if there is such a thing sigh
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers Legacy app

never do a full charge or discharge....
hold it between 20 and 80 then u got a good battery health... mine is 2644mah(accubattery)
my 10 is from 06.16
@gsw5700
I have purchased a battery replacement and will update this post when I successfully replace it next week.
@BitsnPiecez
I have heard of doing something like this before, and obviously you're degradation is smaller than mine by a bit. But that is just another extra several steps to take. Forcing myself to check the phone to see if it charged to 80% is a pain and then on many days I dont know how much i will use my phone, so charging it to 80% defeats the purpose of a larger battery. Hopefully once I replace my battery I can go another year without any major battery issues.
