Battery health - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

My device has 2 weeks and was charged only 6 or 7 times, but AccuBattery reports that my battery has capacity of 2800 mAh instead of expected 3000 mAh, which gives 93% health.
I know that these are only estimates, but at my previous device, Xperia Z it was very close to official specification (99%).
Should I worry about my OnePlus and already submit a warranty ticket, or maybe battery in this phone is really that weak? Might someone post his results from this or similar app?

Bought my op3 and it's measuring less than 2800MAh, I'm getting pretty good battery life so I don't know if the app is just not accurate or what.

Ok, thanks for info. I hope that app itself really can't measure it precisely and it's not OnePlus way to achieve shorter charging times for DashCharge, a marketing purpose

Maybe AccuBattery detects wrong amps during charging/discharging per 1%. I think that's how it estimates total battery capacity. At least I hope so.

Yeah I hope so anyways I am able to get about a day of battery backup with normal usage so it's fine

What about today? The same health? This is a scary topic.

2771mAh for me. Don't expect an app to be able to do these calculations accurately. My battery is still fine.

Anyway, there something strange here, i can't find any replacement battery for OP3 with the "original mAh" i found only 2450mAh in any site that i search for it.

Guys. Have u seen the teardown video. Battery can be replace like withing 5 minutes. I was concerned at first cause im olanning on keeping my device for a year or more. But this is one of the easier device to repair if something goes bad

As far as I know OnePlus is NOT selling their parts. The only way you'll get genuine replacement parts is by sending the phone to official service center.

Hmmm....I'm watching the forum here, trying to decide whether to get an OP3 (T)...
This is definitely one tick in the negative column.

Yeah, that part is less than ideal ...
But otherwise the phone itself is great - and fairly cheap for what it offers. Plus the community support is on "Nexus" level.
I'd go for it (again) ?

Don't get scared about that issue. My OP works great even without 3000mAh, I easily can get 5 days of standby, with normal usage, only with turned off phone at night
Edit: Maybe easily is too much said, I use 50% pixel filter and Efficiency battery mode, then OP consumes 20% battery per day. But even without it you can still get 3-4 days, with some calls and photos made, plus some time spent on the Feedly

Source for GOOD batteries?

I'm getting pissed with all the POS oem batteries for the S3 these days. Is going to Samsung direct my only option to get a GENUINE one? I don't see where they sell them and I don't trust eBay based on experience.
I know you can get them at Office Depot. Or you could at least, several months ago.

Great I'll look into it.
Are you certain your issues are the batteries and not your setup and use of your device?
There are lots of things that can lead to miserable battery life even on the most solid of batteries.

Sure. Brand new phone just purchased. Very few programs installed. Battery used was purchased off eBay. When indicator light showed fully charged I unplugged. Battery remaining went immediately from 100% to 88%. After 6 hours of light use, battery was already down to 40%. Within 20 minutes it fell off the cliff and phone turned off ... basically fully discharged.
Next, stock battery installed. 1 day 12 hours later battery still shows 55% remaining.

In that case I'd recommend Monster ZeroLemon 7000 MAh again.People here on XDA have really tried to suck every drop of juice out of it. It had stood all that abuse very well. Buy it from Amazon so you have solid Return Policy in case of trouble.

Thanks, I'll seriously consider it though the added thickness is a concern. If I could get 2 extra batteries close to the performance of the stock battery and at a combined price close to the ZeroLemon I would be satisfied.
How long does it typically take to charge one of those monsters?

I don't think their form factor would have issues with the SIII's casing.
I do believe they take roughly 4 hours or so with Samsung's original Charger. I don't have one myself so I have second hand information. It is true that if you have a Fast Charge Kernel, this is further reduced. I am guessing, if you charge off of a PC, of course it will practically take forever to finish
My 1 year old stock battery goes me 3 days if on Standby all the time.It will last 1 & 1/2 to 2 days if I use conservatively.
Just fyi, fast charge kernels only make a difference when plugged into a PC and maybe a DC (car) outlet. And correct that the batteries should be the same size and ought to work fine. Only real thing to make note of is if you use any NFC features make sure the battery you get has this capability.

Bit OT here, but my regular Kernel KT747, now (in recent version) has special code for the 11th pin of the MHT port. So I am given to understand the Fast Charge thus implemented actually affects the way it charges off wall. I am testing since yesterday.
The theory behind fast charge kernels is that when you plug into a PC it detects the data connection and limits charging to 500ma or so. Fast charge kernels allow you to disable the data connection, thereby fooling it into thinking it's plugged into a normal charger and bypassing that limit.
The extra pins don't have anything to do with charging. Only 4 of them do. Before fast charge kernels were introduced people would sometimes short two of the wires in the connector (usually with solder) to accomplish the same thing.
As I understand it the 11 pins are just used with the MHL adapter for HD output. They don't have anything to do with charging. Otherwise a basic USB cable probably wouldn't even work.
I believe there are a few in depth write-ups about fast charge kernels here on xda if you want to search for more info on it.

I honestly don't know. One time it got down to 20% after about close of two and a half days of use and I plugged it in before I went to bed and in the morning it's at 100% (around 7 hours of sleep).
The first day I got it I plugged it in and charged it for about 8 hours even though it has 80% charge out the box just to make sure.

So i don't have this exact item, i have the Zerolemon battery/case, pretty much the same looking case.
I bought a triple pack of these (when the triple pack was available) just so I had room for error.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/NFC-Antenn...LS997-VS995-/142761205846?hash=item213d3b2056
The trick isn't getting it on the case, it's getting it on the phone, then actually using it. I got it prety much in a spot now where i can have google pay work 80-90% of the time, otherwise the card terminal thinks I'm placing multiple cards on the reader. I have to generally tilt the phone sideways a bit and hold it at an angle for it to detect properly @ Walgreens.

I got the LG V20 Battery Perfine 6400mAh and am pretty happy with it - have had it for some time now. It was like the feel of having a whole new mobile when I put it on. 6400mAh has been enough for me for a whole day and I don't remember that iv had any day that it could not go through a day of work as of yet. Maybe I need to do some harder use on it but overall it seems I don't need something with more juice then this.

Does the back of the phone heat a lot when charging or during heavy usage/browsing/gaming for the 10500mah/6400mah?

Replacement batteries, which one is good?

Hi everyone,
I've been thinking about replacing my battery and a quick search on Ebay led me to find some sellers who claim to have a 3700 mAh batteries.
Now my first response is to not trust these batteries and just get an original one, which I probably will, but I'm really curious if anyone here has tried one?
Here are a couple of links to these 3700 mAh batteries:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/BLP633-370...342121?hash=item1edc516aa9:g:~BMAAOSwoX5asMid
https://www.ebay.com/itm/3700mAh-Ba...743007?hash=item1ee028189f:g:Ac0AAOSwqxRa7B00
https://www.ebay.com/itm/3700mAh-BL...652403?hash=item2cd4142a73:g:wjEAAOSwsxJa9Isl
What are your thoughts about these?
Don't get any battery that isn't a OnePlus Battery. If you have a choice, never go for the battery that is advertised with a different amperage.
Go for a 3400mAh battery, better if it's a OnePlus original. Since our devices uses Dash Charge, which is only on OnePlus devices, it's best to go for an original, since we cannot know what effect DC will have on third party batteries.
Unless your battery has degraded lower than 50% and you need an emergency replacement till your original arrives, these batteries should not be trusted. There even may be a risk of high thermals and degrading your other phone hardware too.

Rated means how much it is designed to have, and tested is the actual amount of MAh in the battery. With every battery there is a difference between rated and tested. 3300MAh tested is actually really good.
I wonder how much the original batteries are tested for.

BTW, does anyone notice that after replacing the battery, the AccuBattery app is completely out of whack?
I cleared the data to get some clean info on my new battery, but after two or three charges, the app sees my new battery as ~2500mAh and with every charge it's rising. (My last battery was calculated as ~2800mAh)
So far it seems that the battery lasts longer, so the data from the app is conflicting...
I know that the AB app data isn't really reliable in comparison to real measuring equipment, but I'm just wondering about this.
I have replaced it, but it says that it have 0% charge, and doesn't charge anymore. Any help?
Edit: The seller have sent one more to me; it's corrupt, they say.

The one I bought is supposed to be genuine, it even bears a OnePlus logo. But the first died on me in a week or two, so I got a free replacement from them, and so far it fares great. AccuBattery reports it as being well above 3000mAh, and I can reach the end of the day with my phone again, so I'm quite happy.
so why does everyone praise oneplus for their easy to repair devices and parts and build quality and all, if I can't even buy a replacement part? I'm forced to buy a new phone because my battery is broken. So next time I will go and buy a Samsung. Harder to open and all but I can buy a original battery in any other store.

I just send my phone back to OP and have them replace the battery under warranty (It's covered.)

What vendors sell legitimate stock batteries (there are alot of fakes out there)?
I've purchased an extended battery from a website, shipping out of Singapore to most international places, after reading various Reddit threads giving it very high praise and blowing scepticism out of the water.
It fits about 1/4 more capacity into the same size as the regular batteries by using Lithium-Polymer.
I'm waiting for it to arrive, once it does and I've tested it, I'll be writing up something of a review on it and putting it in this section, so lookout for that over the coming weeks.
Like cnjax, I've purchased a couple OEM batteries from eBay but have recently had my secondary one start failing with odd behaviour. If the battery level goes below 25% for example, the phone just dies and it'll only charge up to about 88%, which leads me to believe it's lower quality than the original I got with the phone.
But since that's over a year ago now, I figure I'll move that to a backup.

The battery is currently out of stock, but you can check out the link here. The available price was around $30.
I've been using two of these batteries, swapping between them every two days since early December, and they seem pretty solid so far. I usually get around 5 to 7 hours of screen-on time when going from full to around 10% (see attached screenshot), and the absolute most I've gotten was just over 10 hours of SOT. My numbers seem to be close to what someone else recently posted on Reddit, showing their AccuBattery stats over 2.5 months of usage.

Hey thanks for sharing the link and the reddit information about it. It's too bad they're sold out, perhaps these can be found somewhere else, regardless I appreciate the info as I had no idea they made a higher capacity LiPo battery that was pretty much the same size, that's awesome stuff!
Looks to be about the same as this one. I am currently using and testing this one.

The Lithium-Polymer battery from Singapore is now back in stock. Looking at the updated description in the old link, it gives you the updated link here. For some reason, the title doesn't say battery, but everything else on the new listing page is the same as before.
Update: I asked the sellers about the odd title/category, and they confirmed that this is the new listing page for the battery.
I've bought the Perfine Li-Poly 4100 mAh from Ali express, it takes the same space as original battery and only costs £10!
I have bought two of these and can confirm they are healthy near new and don't have the issues that other new-old-stock batteries have. https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-LG...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648

This battery works great! Last way longer than the originals. Same usage that would run my battery down to 15% now takes me down to 50%

Li-Po batteries are the way forward for the V20! I bought 2 Perfine ones and my SOT went from 2hrs45 - 3.5 to anything from 4.5 - 8!
The perfine 4200 one has been great for about a month now or so. Been getting about half an hour more use than stock but I've been using brightness at 100 compared to when I was using the stock one I usually had it on Auto.
Biggest issue which is close to making me try a different one very soon is my back cover keeps popping off some times multiple times a day. I have it in a case and I can always tell because the finger print scanner either stops working entirely or becomes very erratic.
I just got my maxxxjuice battery. It seems to fit. However, I put it in and started using the phone to run the battery down until shutoff (per instructions). It read 49%. In about 5 minutes of use, I noticed dark banding on the edges of the screen. It's like two dark areas running from the top of the phone to the bottom. I shut it off. Put the OEM battery back in. It had the banding, but lighter. About 5 minutes later, the banding is gone.
$33 bucks in the toilet.

In India, buying mi quick charger 3.0 is the wisest choice. I bought it with redmi note 7 @ Rs. 450 from Mi home. It's not the fastest, but surely saves around 1 hr for charging than the stock charger.
The faster you charge your phone the more heat it'll produce. Be careful and follow the guidelines since it could harm your device otherwise

maximum watts suggested by xiaomi for RN7 / Pro is 18 watts.. so your phone is still safe with this chargers.. (but look for the original product just to be safe)

for redmi note 7 any higher voltages over 4.4V can't do any good - it shrinks for sure the lifetime span best scenario at half so my advice is to keep up using the standard charger which is very healthy for your 4000mAh battery. Also when charging try not to get it full 100%, so you'll have after 3 years of use a battery as new as you bought it - of course no company or company service would agree with me, they need you buying a new phone as soon as possible - the truth is that used cautiously batteries are able to work at maximum capacity about over 600 discharge cycles

1)is your mobile heating?, please mention temperature after charging upto 1 hour
2)how much time does it takes to charge say from 20% to 80%
3)you can use Accu battery (android app) for battery temperature and charging speed

Yeah, and using battery however you want you get 500 full cycles before battery goes down to like 80% capacity, which is still FINE. So difference is so little i will just enjoy my phone, instead of worrying about such things. Also who uses their phone more than 2 years?

I'm working in a field where drones are vital so I have to know a lot about Lithium battery
Your assumptions are correct but like 4 years ago, meanwhile things changed not in the best way
Worst step they made is overcharging - I bet you didn't know are actually overcharging, by increasing the load voltage from 4.2V to 4.4V they succeeded to push more in our battery... so that they stamp now 4000mAh where actually sits 3200mAh - the costs? it halves the life span or even worse. If you put over that "quick charge" suddenly your 500 cycles is a beautiful dream

Technology advances, ofcourse engineers trying to fit more energy in as small body as possible, thats only logical way. These "newer" batterys with max 4.4V have different structure to the more common 4.2V, they have extra materials like graphene helping them withstand it. Anyways, even nexus 5x which was released 4years ago, have such battery. And if you google it, you will find plenty of scientific tests newer than 4 years, showing same degradation, around 500 full cycles till you lose like 20%. So again, i dont see a reason to worry. Ill better enjoy my phone. Even if my battery is ruined after 2 years, hell, new one costs 10euros max, ill just swap it and keep using it whatever way i want. I mean, technically you are right, they do overcharge them, and mah does go down as voltage goes down, its not really 4000mah, but practically, its not worth all the trouble. Just enjoy your device.

update - it looks like RN7 4Ah xiaomi batteries wears out pretty fast, lot of users using quick charge (which in RN7 case makes charging faster with 15min or so) report that at less than a month the SOT decrease from 9+ hours to under 7 hours. It seems like that the profit margins made that so xiaomi puts in their phones batteries using old common technology. Most probably you're right but only when about flagships

Lol. If this was true whole internet would be full of complains, redmi is sold worldwide now, so believe me, european buyers wouldnt stay silent if battery degraded after a month. You would be reading articles in every smartphone news site, but thats not the case, so obviously thats not true, i dont know where you are finding this false information. Also, SOT is the dumbest thing to measure battery capacity, as it can be influenced by many factors. Check actual battery capacity in mah with app like Gsam or BBS.

Haha, so standart. So many words, and zero proof or sources. Yeah, cya buddy. I dont have anything to prove because im talking facts. You on the other hand, are talking nonsense out of your ass. And when asked for proof, you write 5 lines of self promoting, how wonderful of a xda member you are, Lmaooo ?? ive been on xda since 2008, "rookie". Im mature enough to not believe every nonsense i see, unlike you it seems. Yeah, sure, battery is degraded in RN7 after 1 month use... Lmao, do you seriously believe this nonsense yourself? All these batterys are basically the same, and most of oems use quick charge 4 because it is LICENSED and SAFE technology. But yeah, you probably know better than thousands of engineers thinking otherwise ? because you created a cheap chinese smartwatch tool, that makes your opinion much more valid than the rest of the world, and you need no proof, your words are enough. Jeesus, some people live in dellusional world... Ever heard of tesla cars? They use same batteries as in laptops, smartphones etc. Difference being, they use much higher voltages and amperages than we do. Yet the batteries are fine. They even give 5 years warranty. So how do you explain that? Let me guess, you cant, because you talk nonsense out of your ass, and when asked for proof, you start bragging about your simple mtk tool which has nothing to do with this topic lmao.
conclusion: don't buy a quick charger for RN7

Yes, if you believe telltales and grandma's fairytails. If you believe facts and scientific tests, you are free to use it, because there is absolutely no facts pointing otherwise.
