Huawei honor 8x max 4/64 snapdragon chipset?? - Treble-Enabled Device Questions and Answers

Hello I'm new to the gsi scene and from what I've checked on this phone is it's gsi compatible,a only,I have the bootloader unlocked through an unlock site,is there any gsi ROMs that will work on this phone? There is no root yet or twrp but if there is a working gsi I could just flash thru fastboot.Any info that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated thanks!!!!

So long as the ROM works on a Snapdragon 636, it should be fine on the 8x max, though, I thought Huawei weren't providing bootloader unlock codes, for TWRP, anything for a SD636 should work fine, obviously you can't decrypt internal storage (actually, you can, just wipe internal storage from TWRP and encryption is gone), and magisk root should work fine.
Try this TWRP, make sure you have a backup full update ROM to install (DLoad method) if this fails, or have the stock recovery, https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5/development/official-twrp-xiaomi-redmi-5-plus-t3727162

Can you please share the bootloader unlock method. I have tried dc-unlocker but having trouble paying for the service - my bitcoin service allows a minimum, paysera is not available here, SMS is not available in Canada. I have been installing TWRP and GSI on many devices and this bootloader lock on my Honor 8x Max seems impossible. Can you help?

Installing lastest rom and rooting

Hey guys.
I have installed 6.10.13 MIUI 8.1. When i bought my mi5s phone they installed me that rom and told me that my bootloader is unlocked.
So my question is for someone to write me steps of installing lastest version of european rom. And i didnt find any rooting guide so I would be grateful if someone write me that.
Thanks in advance.
Rooting
You don't have to root the phone to flash custom ROM but be sure that bootloader is unlocked. Boot to fastboot and check: fastboot oem device-info. I have never used Roms from Xiaomi.eu because in general their rooms are Chinese weekly -chinese AP's + more system languages. English is fine for me.
There is a installation guide on site: https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-11-10.36056/

Well, it is a ROM from reseller a modified Chinese I guess. Version 8.0.10.0.0. As everything works fine I will keep it as long as some better alternative comes. I have been reading about the others who switched to original Chinese but afterwards regretted they did it. If I were you, before you try some other ROM, I would flash custom recovery TWRP and save/backup current ROM you have now, just in case.
The other option is to flash original Chinese developer ROM and then root the phone and finally get rid of Chinese thrash.
Best luck!

OK. Thanks.
I just realized that they installed me twrp recovery 3.0.2 . Also checked that I have unlocked bootloader .
If I install that weekly rom, what will happen with my data?(will i lose data or it just wipe system and put newer version)
So my last question is how to root mi5s.
I saw in twrp that there is SuperSu option, is this one of ways to root phone?
I prefer eu rom have more optimization just download rom on your phone boot in twrp volume up and power install rom and after that wipe cash data is untouched. Reboot system phone will need some time to boot because it build cash and after that it start to optimize installed applications. It's really simple.

Thanks for answer.
But I want to be sure, Should i install su from twrp or I need to download and put zip in phone and then install?
Sry for being annoying and asking probably stupid question but I dont want to brick my device already hahah.
One more stupid question, I install SU after rom install?
Ok
Always make back up in twrp in case something happen..
I didn't root my phone but i root all phones that i have before.
So install rom first in twrp than flash super su in twrp all zips need to be on phone. I download everything that i need on phone directly...

Moto E4 Guide to rooting. Qualcomm Version

[ THE VZW VARIANT HAS A PERMALOCKED BOOTLOADER AND CANNOT BE ROOTED.]
@squid2's
qualcomm TWRP
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e4/development/twrp-twrp-moto-g4-qualcomm-t3655160
------------------------
To be able to mount system as RW in TWRP you have to go to wipe and format data, after sliding right type yes and this will restore your system to stock unencrypted, once you're done doing that reboot to recovery (NOT SYSTEM) then flash dmnoverity and then whatever root method you prefer phh su, magisk etc.
SuperSU is currently experiencing issues with our firmware.

Follow the following at your own risk!
I am not responsible for any mishaps with your devices.
The short version is:
1. Unlock the boot loader
2. Boot twrp
3. Flash noverity and magisk
4. Reboot to root'd phone.
0. Prepare
Get the following:
i. Motorola usb drivers: your pc won't talk properly with the device without these. google around for these.
ii. adb and fastboot: used to unlock the bootloader and boot twrp https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
iv. no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1 zip: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e4/how-to/moto-e-guide-to-rooting-t3652982/post74282478
v. Squid2's TWRP for the E4: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e4/development/twrp-twrp-moto-g4-qualcomm-t3655160
vi: (optional) stock roms: in case you need to go back https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=195327 applying these with RSD lite (if RSD can *actually* detect your phone) or manually (
) should work.
0.1 Prepare the phone:
Get developer options on android and turn on "OEM unlocking" and "USB debugging".
Test that your pc can see the phone by running:
0.2 Dump your zips onto the phone
1. Unlock the boot loader
The post here details how to unlock the motorola boot loader. Keep in mind it will probably void any warranty on the phone. This process involves signing up for a motorola account to get the unlock code.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72878183&postcount=2
2. Boot into bootloader using: adb reboot bootloader
2.1 Flash TWRP using: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
2.2 Now type fastboot reboot recovery and TWRP should start.
3. Flash magisk and no-verify zip
In twrp, go to wipe, format data and slide it, type yes this unencrypts the device. Now reboot the RECOVERY and set system as r/w. Now flash dmnoverity, and then flash magisk.
4. Reboot
That should be it. When you reboot back to android, install magisk manager if you haven't already and feel free to use your root.
Thank you so much for this! Seems like this can all be done on the phone itself? Does it require a microsd?
Sent from my Moto E (4) using Tapatalk
I'm not sure, since I have a micro SD I used it but you should be able to get away with it without one.
Also aside from unlocking the bootloader and booting into twrp from a pc the rest is done on the device.
Which version of the E4 can this be done? There is some variants of this.
I use the metro pcs snapdragon one, most other people are reporting success with other prepaid carriers I'm assuming most of them have the snapdragon variant.

I don't see how this is possible without a sd card, since you can't get root if you give TWRP access to your data, so where would you put the rooting files like the noverify zip and the magisk zip
True I didn't even think about that, yeah you need an SD card, and make sure it's formatted as external memory. After root you can reformat it to internal again If you wanted
i guess no root ever for xt1767 vz since bl can't be unlocked

More than likely no, unless your bootloader is unlocked there's not much you can do, and cross carrier roms might not work for everyone.

I read that the amazon variant has a boot loader that could be unlocked.

It doesn't work that way, flashing a different firmware won't change your bootloader unlocking capabilities, since to unlock the bootloader you need a code from Motorola, and they won't give it to you for the Verizon version.

Is this working on international mediatek variant {XT1760}
No idea, give it a shot and report back if it works.
did u have backup of moto e4 stock firmware ?
(XT1760 - international version)
Mtk-droidtools failed to load rom structure and Miracle-tool dump a buggy Scatter file, with partition index error.
Anyway to extract stock rom without any error.
I don't have one, and I'm not sure. I've never ran into an issue like that.

Is it safe to mod locked device?

As the title says is it possible to root, install modifications to stock ROM and is there a fast way to revert everything is something go wrong? I'm asking because support for 5X has ended, and I can't permanently unlock bootloader. I don't want to hard brick this phone by mistake and also I don't want just look how this device is being wasted.
So here's some probably noob questions that I want to ask:
1. Can I install TWRP on NO RPMB bootloader and boot it without issues? If so, how?
2. What recovery version should I install 4-core or regular 6-core?
3. Can I root device and hide it with magisk?
4. If an security update appear how to install it since stock recovery is replaced with TWRP?
5. If something go wrong like 2nd death loop how to revert everything? Can I simply flash stock system image in TWRP to "fix" device?
Thanks in advance.
You might try the solution the user in this thread suggested, https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/help/rpmb-bootloader-locked-t3481906/page2
So I have to unlock bootloader, then flash TWRP, Super SU, compatible Magisk in one attempt, then I'm ready to go? Will TWRP boot and work like nothing happened?
Sent from my Nexus 5X using XDA Labs
I haven't tried it but based on the steps I would think it should work. It won't hurt anything. It also won't stop the bootloader from locking upon a reboot. But as long as you can unlock it prior to flashing any of the partitions as the reddit thread suggests you could be ok.
Locked bootloader won't allow to boot custom kernels that's sure, but will it boot modded stock kernels from this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/modified-boot-imgs-android-n-t3495169 since they're stock kernels

So there's still hope, cool! Are there any side effects (will Jolla's multiboot and drivedroid work)? What if device suddenly stop working? Flashing stock image doesn't count since we have locked bootloader, so what to do if CPU die again? I prefer to have an emergency plan just in cause. You made my day. With locked bootloader we can't boot customs, right, just asking because it was possible on my Xperia J.

As long as TWRP is installed and "stuck" (ie: boot directly into TWRP after flash), you can basically flash anything (custom ROMs/kernels etc.).
The worst thing that can happen is that you brick the ROM without TWRP installed and the ROM is bricked/the oem unlock flag is reset (not tripped). Even then there's a .tot file somewhere here on XDA that can recover the phone.
I'm assuming that an upgrade to O is also possible via stock images (unlock bl, flash stock images, boot into O, trip the OEM unlock flag, unlock BL and follow the steps described).

Haven't tried Jolla's multiboot or drivedroid. As long as you can get into fastboot, you can just unlock it again and flash stock (though you will obviously lose everything that's on the device). Haven't tried flashing custom ROMs but as custom kernels are working, I don't see why custom ROMs wouldn't.

In short unlocking bootloader JUST allows to flash system images in fastboot, nothing more nothing less? So if I flash TWRP then Lineage it will boot and work like nothing happened (like on 5X with unlocked bootloader), it's sounds so good that I can't even believe.

Did you then do a factory reset and flash root? That should make it stick. If not, you can always just use the TWRP app to get into TWRP when needed.
Edit: You also booted to recovery straight from fastboot after flashing, without rebooting the phone?

ultimate / universal root / twrp installation guide?

Hi everyone
Sorry I am confused; there does not seem to be an ultimate universal root / twrp installation guide for the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite phone (my son's phone) in 2019.
No offense intended but all these various posts on the topic just help to confuse people!
I managed to unlock the bootloader but can anybody please tell me what is the easiest / user-friendliest way to install twrp (which version?) and root the phone so that I may proceed with flashing LineageOS afterwards to get rid of all the bloatware.?
what about these partitions A & B?
Thanks a lot in advance

[EDIT] er... this is for flashing a custom rom!

It depends on what you want to do.
Root doesnt need TWRP, just Magisk. There's a guide on here.
Flashing custom ROMs needs TWRP. Each custom ROM has specific instructions.
There's no one-size-fits-all solution for this phone.

Hi @a1291762 & thanks.
This is what I am saying it is confusing; I have been thru a few phones (samsungs, LGs, lately Xiaomi...)
and the process was first install twrp then root and then you could flash roms
I know when you flash LineageOS, you get root included in dev options so from your explanations I will look how to flash LineageOS but currently I'm struggling installing twrp as you have seen in my other post

My last phone didn't have A/B or encryption or use Magisk for rooting... So for me everything about this phone was new and different.
I started with stock (android one means I didn't immediately want a custom ROM). Then added Magisk. I added TWRP after edxposed caused me bootloops (magisk manager CLI can run from TWRP). I haven't installed a custom ROM yet but I've got a custom splash and bootanim.

Hi, not going to write a guide but mine now runs a custom rom with working fingerprint scanner. Not sure if it would work with original rom, but I think so.
Before you start, this procedure will erase all your data.
My phone came with older rom version, so I upgraded to a version that was mentioned in an unlock guide. I downloaded the RMX1991_11_A.14 rom from:
https://realmeupdater.com/downloads/archive/
Put it on internal storage and flashed it using stock recovery. This wipes all your data. With the updated rom, I installed the 'in depth testing' apk, applied for an unlock, and got it to reboot my phone to fastboot. I could then unlock the bootloader, and install TWRP as custom recovery. There is guides how to do that, it worked just fine.
I had some issues getting a custom rom to boot, so I reverted to stock recovery, and flashed the latest official ROM. From that basis (newer vendor data) I re-installed twrp and successfully installed my custom rom, lineageos. Everything works properly, except that I haven't figured out yet how to use the 64MP camera, it is currently only using the second rear cam.
Hope this helps, it's not a guide but the steps are here.
