Hey guys.
I have installed 6.10.13 MIUI 8.1. When i bought my mi5s phone they installed me that rom and told me that my bootloader is unlocked.
So my question is for someone to write me steps of installing lastest version of european rom. And i didnt find any rooting guide so I would be grateful if someone write me that.
Thanks in advance.
Rooting
You don't have to root the phone to flash custom ROM but be sure that bootloader is unlocked. Boot to fastboot and check: fastboot oem device-info. I have never used Roms from Xiaomi.eu because in general their rooms are Chinese weekly -chinese AP's + more system languages. English is fine for me.
There is a installation guide on site: https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-11-10.36056/

Well, it is a ROM from reseller a modified Chinese I guess. Version 8.0.10.0.0. As everything works fine I will keep it as long as some better alternative comes. I have been reading about the others who switched to original Chinese but afterwards regretted they did it. If I were you, before you try some other ROM, I would flash custom recovery TWRP and save/backup current ROM you have now, just in case.
The other option is to flash original Chinese developer ROM and then root the phone and finally get rid of Chinese thrash.
Best luck!

OK. Thanks.
I just realized that they installed me twrp recovery 3.0.2 . Also checked that I have unlocked bootloader .
If I install that weekly rom, what will happen with my data?(will i lose data or it just wipe system and put newer version)
So my last question is how to root mi5s.
I saw in twrp that there is SuperSu option, is this one of ways to root phone?
I prefer eu rom have more optimization just download rom on your phone boot in twrp volume up and power install rom and after that wipe cash data is untouched. Reboot system phone will need some time to boot because it build cash and after that it start to optimize installed applications. It's really simple.

For root install latest super su in twrp...

Thanks for answer.
But I want to be sure, Should i install su from twrp or I need to download and put zip in phone and then install?
Sry for being annoying and asking probably stupid question but I dont want to brick my device already hahah.
One more stupid question, I install SU after rom install?
Ok
Always make back up in twrp in case something happen..
I didn't root my phone but i root all phones that i have before.
So install rom first in twrp than flash super su in twrp all zips need to be on phone. I download everything that i need on phone directly...

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to the android scene when it comes to the rom and rooting side of things so I just have a few questions about Sunshine and the whole process in general. Sorry if this may have already been asked but after a quick search many of the answers to these questions seem to be outdated.
1. Do you need to be rooted in order to use Sunshine?
2. If I do, is there any method to root my phone? I can't seem to find any without paying some money.
The only reason why I would want to root my phone is so I can use Titanium root and back up my data.
3. Do I have the order right?
Use Sunshine (gains S-off/unlocks bootloader)Install a custom recovery (TWRP)Super SU (Does this root my phone?)Install Cyanogenmod
4. If I have the order correct, at what point should I backup my data and when would my data get wiped?
5. And if I'm backing up my data should I back it up to my SD card and remove it, or do something else?
Once again, I'm sorry if most of the answers to these questions seem obvious but this is my first time tampering with my phone so I would appreciate any help!
Ok so a little update, I used sunshine, installed twrp, and tried to flash super su but I got stuck on a bootloop. Any help? I tried wiping the cache/dalvik.

The latest supersu zip will give you a bootloop. The previous version works fine. I don't have it anymore but you will need to download a rom and flash it.

GUIDE to go from BUGGY VENDOR ROM with UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER to 8.8.9 XIAOMI.EU:
Download 8.8.9 xiaomi.eu from one of these 3 links: 1) https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=280379 2) https://sourceforge.net/projects/xi...s/files/xiaomi.eu/MIUI-WEEKLY-RELEASES/8.8.9/ 3) http://miui.dedyk.gq/8.8.9/xiaomi.eu_multi_MIMAX3_8.8.9_v10-8.1.zip
1) Flash China Beta 8.8.9 with Mi Flash Tool using the option "Clean All" (DO NOT choose 'Clean All and Lock'). Links and instructions below:
a) China Beta 8.8.9: bigota.d.miui.com/8.8.9/nitrogen_images_8.8.9_20180809.0000.00_8.1_cn_7bfe310762.tgz
b) Mi Flash Tool:
1b) download link: https://xiaomiflashtool.com/download/xiaomi-flash-tool-20180528
2b) instructions on how to use: https://xiaomiflashtool.com/tutorial/use-xiaomi-flash-tool
3) Let your China rom boot up, then login to your Mi Account (if you haven't made one yet, make it here: https://global.account.xiaomi.com/pass/register
4) Once logged in, go to Settings>Additional Settings>Developer Options>Turn ON USB Debugging, Install via USB, and USB Debugging (Security Settings).
5) Download Minimal ADB and Fastboot: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790. Extract it to your desktop so you can use it from there easily and rename the folder to ADB.
6) Download TWRP Recovery: https://eu.dl.twrp.me/nitrogen/twrp-3.2.3-0-nitrogen.img.html. Rename it to recovery.img and place it in your ADB folder.
7) Open cmd (Windows Command Processor/command prompt) within ADB folder or navigate there directly by opening cmd and enter the following steps: cd C:\Users\WhateverYourUsernameIs\Desktop\ADB (this puts you in the ADB folder).
8) Turn your phone off. Boot your phone back into FASTBOOT MODE (press and hold VOLUME DOWN and POWER for 6-8 seconds), then plug it into your computer. In cmd, enter the following:
fastboot format userdata, then flash TWRP using the following commands: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, then boot to recovery using the following commands: fastboot boot recovery.img
9) Changing file system from ext4 to f2fs is NOT NECESSARY, but I included it in case you run into errors, so skip to the WIPE portion of this section: In TWRP, change your file system from ext4 to f2fs: Wipe > Advanced Wipe > Data > Repair or Change File System > Change File System > F2FS. Then go back (back button at the bottom) and mount all your partitions: Mount>Check All Partions. Then go back, select WIPE>Advanced Wipe> select Data, Dalvik Cache and Internal Storage (System should NOT be wiped).
10): Transfer 8.8.9 xiaomi.eu rom from your pc to phone's internal storage and install in TWRP: INSTALL>Zip>Select 8.8.9 xiaomi.eu rom>Flash it.
11) REBOOT. The phone should boot without issue and your bootloader should stay unlocked.
12) Enable VoLTE: Once everything is set up, go to dialer and enter the following: *#*#86583#*#*
IF YOU WANT ROOT:
1) Download Magisk 17.1 Stable: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v17.1/Magisk-v17.1.zip
2) Reboot to Recovery : Turn off phone, press and hold VOLUME UP + POWER for 6-8 seconds until you see the phone boot into TWRP. Select INSTALL>Zip>Magisk-v17.1.zip>Flash it and reboot.
Thanks and credit to: @omer919 and @martin.burgas - I used some of your install ideas to help everyone :highfive:.
If you have any further questions, just ask.

If you are planning to flash the official global stable, the bootloader can get automatically relocked on the future OTA updates and brick your phone.
There is no problem with unofficial unlocked bootloader if you are planning to flash the official chinese or custom roms like xiaomi.eu

To unlock it officially, you must flash the chinese rom with MiFlash and relock the bootloader, then apply for unlock (you must wait 1-2 months to get the unlock permission)

I have a question - I'm also about to receive my new 6gb/128gb MiMax 3.
It will probably arrive with 9.6.4 or 9.6.6 and I want to switch to .eu ROM so I will be using this guide.
But I have some questions:
1. Does .eu update the firmware in correlation with China Dev firmware updates since it is based on it?
2. If it does it there any chance of it becoming affected by the whole ARB situation?
3. I will want to root and use cam2api for better camera. Do the .eu OTA updates unroot the phone once installed requiring to re-root every time?
4. Is there anything else I should be aware of if using the .eu ROM?
Many thanks and sorry for being a noob - long time since I've last used non-vendor ROMs...
---------- Post added at 09:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:52 AM ----------
and another thing - the bootloader will be unlocked per the vendor on ebay - I assume using whatever method they use. Will there ever be need for me to unlock it again using the MI unlock lengthy procedure?

As Martin said, follow my thread.
1. Yes, EU changes are based on Chinese updates, then modified for global/eu community. Pretty consistent time frames for the updates.
2. Yes, everything after 8.8.9 EU is ARB affected. I suggest staying on 8.8.9 eu until custom roms come. If you want to try RevolutionOS rom which is free and based on Miui Pro mods, feel free as that is not ARB affected and gets OTA updates for their rom.
3. Every update unroots a phone because it's a new rom (stock vendor and system) - just simply flash magisk right after you update in twrp - very easy and straightforward. I'm using camera2api enabler downloaded through magisk download section (I downloaded the zip and flashed it in twrp), then downloaded the latest posted version of Google camera in Google Camera Mod thread here. It works without issues. If you get random hiccups mess around with Google camera settings until it resolves itself.
4. Nothing else needed to worry about. If you run into any error, just reply in my main thread, and we'll help you out, buddy. We all started as noobs :highfive:.

One more question - does staying on 8.8.9 eu means I can't have any OTAs from XIAOMI.eu?
Is there an option to have FW-less OTAs or is it impossible?

Edit from nijel's correction below: You can OTA update. The way xiaomi eu ota works is you go to the Updater app in your app folder. Then check update and download. Then press the three dots in the right corner and select Reboot to Recovery MODE using TWRP. Or you can manually download it from here and install through TWRP: https://xiaomi.eu/community/forums/miui-rom-releases.103/.

If I update .eu using the updater app will I get into ARB territory? Meaning I will be updated from 8.8.9 to 8.920 or such with ARB?
It's pretty confusing - basically I want to get OTA updates and stay away as possible from ARB or as a lesser evil - have ARB and get OTA's from .eu.
What would you recommend as best?
There is MiuiPro providing OTA updates.
You have to make little "donation" though.

You will get ARB if you do it through the app or download it directly from xiaomi.eu. You need to flash firmware-less updates via twrp using the roms indicated in the firmware thread I linked above.
It's all explained above. If you want ota updates with the updater app, you will get ARB, but you can continue to get those updates directly from the app and reboot to recovery to flash them. It's really no different than manually downloading from the firmware thread, putting it on your internal storage, restarting your phone and booting into twrp with volume up and power as it restarts. Then simply flash. The choice is yours.

They're better off on revolution OS because it's free and similar. Miui Pro is not a "donation." It's a subscription service which is absolutely ridiculous as @SUPERUSER mentioned. Donating to devs for their hard work is 100% acceptable and encouraged; I do it all the time. Forcing users to pay for a constant fee for updates is ridiculous and goes against everything xda stands for. Many users have tried this in xda forums for self gain and got banned. Do you see a Miui Pro thread here? No, and there's a reason for it. If you like it, that's great, but tell people the whole truth because there are many newbies on here . :highfive:
Hi everyone, this is my first post
This winter I had decided to install the GCam on my Mi A2 lite, so I followed a guide (I'm not able to mod any phone) I managed to install the cam. To install that I obv needed to root my phone and indeed on Root Checker that was rooted. Some months later, the phone was automaticatly updated and after that I don't know how that lost his rooting and the possibilty to use Gcam (and other apps). I didn't want to do all the process again so I let that go.
Now I'd like to install the Pixel Experience ROM on my Xiaomi tho, but I read that I need to have root permission and the bootloader unlocked. My bootloader is already uncloked, because in developer's option, under "Unlock OEM" is written. "the bootloader's already unlocked."), but I have no root permission. I don't know what to do, because as I said I'm totally ignorant.
Can I install a custom recovery without root permission? How can I install the Pixel Rom? I need to root again my phone?
Thank you all for you help!

You need for sure an unlocked bootloader but regarding root although you don´t need it to flash a custom recovery nor a custom rom probably is better that you have it so you might need to do other things like install mods that need root.
Just flashing the Magisk you´ll recover the lost root status again but if you don´t have recovery now just boot on it through fastboot and then flash it over your actual rom or if you want the Pixel rom just follow the tutorial posted in the thread.

Yes, you need a custom recovery like TWRP and regarding tutorial there is a how-to-install method on every custom rom and also in the thread of a Pixel rom https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/development/rom-pixel-experience-t3911489 they´re just some few steps

Oh sorry since I don´t use PE rom nevermind there is not a tutorial there but you will find one here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi...0-ressurection-remix-os-xiaomi-mi-a2-t3954197 it´s the same process (more or less) for any custom rom.
If you are on a custom rom just booting using advanced power reboot you can go to recovery to see if it still stays there, also you can go manually using key combination (vol up + pwr from a device off) and you have too adb reboot recovery command to boot on it.
Hi everyone
Sorry I am confused; there does not seem to be an ultimate universal root / twrp installation guide for the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite phone (my son's phone) in 2019.
No offense intended but all these various posts on the topic just help to confuse people!
I managed to unlock the bootloader but can anybody please tell me what is the easiest / user-friendliest way to install twrp (which version?) and root the phone so that I may proceed with flashing LineageOS afterwards to get rid of all the bloatware.?
what about these partitions A & B?
Thanks a lot in advance

It depends on what you want to do.
Root doesnt need TWRP, just Magisk. There's a guide on here.
Flashing custom ROMs needs TWRP. Each custom ROM has specific instructions.
There's no one-size-fits-all solution for this phone.

This is what I am saying it is confusing; I have been thru a few phones (samsungs, LGs, lately Xiaomi...)
and the process was first install twrp then root and then you could flash roms
I know when you flash LineageOS, you get root included in dev options so from your explanations I will look how to flash LineageOS but currently I'm struggling installing twrp as you have seen in my other post

My last phone didn't have A/B or encryption or use Magisk for rooting... So for me everything about this phone was new and different.
I started with stock (android one means I didn't immediately want a custom ROM). Then added Magisk. I added TWRP after edxposed caused me bootloops (magisk manager CLI can run from TWRP). I haven't installed a custom ROM yet but I've got a custom splash and bootanim.
hello guys! im rooting phones some years now but first time im afraid to do that i see alot hard bricks etc so i want to ask
i have the last firmware now global (phone is global 2) if i put twrp for magisk i have to stop upgrade the phone right?
second. i never liked stock roms so again... if i put twrp i can flash whatever rom i want or there are steps every time so i wont brick the phone? thank u guys for ur time
dont do it
For rooting stock ROM, you can flash twrp and flash magisk but you should be careful to pick a recovery which is for android 10 and also not for CFW.
For flashing custom roms, you should read the megathread. It's not very complicated and if you follow the exact steps, you will not get bricked.

It's all explained in the megathread, sir. For custom ROMs you need CFW recovery but for you to be on CFW you need to flash CFW with a non-CFW recovery.
Best way to do it is in the CrDroid post.
Have a nice day!
tl;dr: flash Android 9 then megathread

i tried rooting with magisk on latest android 10 miui 11 , basically you will fail safetynet and basic integrity will fail as well you can try to hide fingerprint with magisk busybox and props module and type su to give termux root access and edit fingerprint to pixel 4 but it's not guaranteed i don't know if there is google attestation hardware in begonia anyways you can try.
here's a pic from pixel experience safetynet.(not rooted)
