I purchased a Galaxy Note 8 (GT-N5110) and it has the 4.1 OS. I tried to update it OTA and said it had been modified and was ineligible. So I looked and under status it said custom not official. So I attempted to update with KIES 2 and it was stopped by a , "Invalid Magic String" error. The knox Flag was tripped already so I am sure someone at some point had installed a nonstandard firmware upgrade or attempted a root. I notes that the OTA upgrade was a 4.2 upgrade so I tried the 4.4 firmware update in case someone had previously bootstrap locked it. I was unable to update using Odin. Whenever the device is off, the charge symbol just sits there, no animation and the device does not charge. If it is on it will charge. I attempted again last night and it failed. Now all the screen does is flash with the inactive charge Icon on the screen. I cannot get to the Odin download screen or the recovery screen. All out of ideas and need a little help.
Thanks
Same issue with me...

I recently tried to initialize the firmware of my galaxy s3 running 4.4.2 to factory settings. But samsung Kies tried to install 4.1 into my phone and it bricked my device. It wasn't booting since then. So i tried to install something using odin according to a website and my phone started working properly. But now the issue is, when the phone is in download mode, it shows that the current binary is custom, the System status is Custom and the warranty bit is 1(in red color). I tried installing an app from google pay to check whether its rooted. and it says the phone is not rooted. Also i checked the phone by putting it in recovery mode, and it says its running android system recovey <3e>. So that seems fine too. But im confused why the phone is showing that the current binary is custom and also the system status is also custom while the phone is not rooted? Ive included a before (pic with three fail messages) and after screnshot of the download mode of my phone. Please help
Flashing non-stock software via Odin will cause this.
To reset everything, it is best to root, run triangle away, remove root. and it may go back to official.
The status may remain at custom since AT&T never released a full 4.4.2 ROM as KK was only available via OTA.
I have an unrooted stock Samsung Note 8 that got an OTA update and is now stuck in a loop trying to install it but always ends up showing error after the install apparently fails.
This was never rooted and it was just factory reset prior to the update, and the update was something small like 7MB or something. I think it is on android 4.2.something. I can get it into Odin mode but since it is completely stock I am not sure if that will be enough. I am guessing I will have to figure out how to connect it to a PC and flash new firmware but it has been years since I have done anything like it and don't even know where to begin.
I hope a good soul in this forum has enough patience to point me in the right direction.
Thanks,

"Error occurred while updating..." Think I have bricked while attempting to downgrade
Please help.
I was attempting to root and SIM unlock the SM-G925T. It was already on Nougat 7.0 (and November 2017 security/patch).
CF Auto Root would not work. Neither did an attempt to manually flash TWRP (although attempting one of those two tripped KNOX).
I thought I'd downgrade to Marshmallow and then re-attempt root/unlock. Downloaded "G925TUVU5EQC2" from gsm-firmware and tried to execute via Odin.
I am left with a permanent blue screen with that "!" reading I need to use Smart Switch's Emergency Recovery. That, btw, does not work either (and neither does re-attempting after reinstalling device drivers from within SS).
Could someone please suggest what I should do? Pressing and holding power/home/vol- keeps taking me back to this blue screen. Unable to get to the recovery or anywhere for that matter.
Ok, so... Despite not seeing any other screen, I went ahead with reflashing the Marshmallow ROM via ODIN. Worked this time and the phone rebooted.
Interestingly, now, my unlock request was approved by the Device Unlock software (didn't need to use other means). However, I am stuck on Marshmallow and the device won't update to Nougat (get the error "phone not registered", despite it being unlocked). Hilarious. But at least the phone is functioning now.
Followed the same ODIN method and flashed the latest 7.0 image (Nov 2017 patch). Thankfully, it retained the unlock. Not sure if it can upgrade (I don't see the "not registered" error) but I won't know till there is a release.
Briefly got an annoying "com.sec.vsimservice stopped working" error - booted into Android recovery, wiped cache and did a factory reset. Working now!
Had already tried rooting this version (using both CF Auto Root and TWRP), but in vain, so not harbouring hopes now. Will get back to it later.
I received a notification for an update today, so I went ahead and did it. It completed one cycle and then rebooted and began a new cycle. At 30% the android mascot fell over and the update failed. This continued for 10 minutes or so. I then shut the phone down after a reboot and it went to a boot loop getting to the Samsung/Android logo. I read that going into recovery mode could fix the issue with a wipe cache and restore, only, trying to get into recovery mode gives me a blue screen with an message saying "software not authorized by at&t is installed on the phone".
I bought the phone today and did not do much except mess with the streaming apps. I did not try to root or install custom roms and I believe the error is due to the update not completing. Is there a way I can fix this or should I just take the phone back to at&t and get a new one? As I said, I bought it today (technically yesterday I guess).
Thanks in advance for the feedback and advice
Try flashing the latest firmware from sammobile or updato.com or use the samfirm tool from XDA (fastest) and ODIN 3.13.1 to flash it
Use CSC and not HOME_CSC
Flash all 4 parts together
This will not void warranty or trip knox
Hi! I have a big problem with my A5 2017. Today my phone pop-up the Oreo update, so I was decided to install it (finally!). First of all, I want to appoint that I have bought this phone from the carrier Claro in Argentina. Everything was fine, it downloaded the 1.56 GB of the OTA update but the problem was during installation. It got stuck at 32%, it failed. It rebooted and then an error message pop up to confirm to send to Samsung. I pressed yes and I gave it another shot and again stuck at 32%. Since I wanted to have Oreo so bad, I opened Smart Switch to update it with my laptop and the USB cable. Here's where all the drama began, Smart Switch recognized my phone and the new update, I pressed yes and I waited for the download. Everything was fine, I though that I was going to have Oreo on my phone. It began installing the update and all of the sudden it got sutck at 92% and again an error appear on screen. I pressed ok and this time there was another message saying that I have to use Emergency recovery option from Smart Swicht, I thought there wouldn't be a problem but when I procceded I had to past a code to recover my phone which I did but then it took 4 hours to download the emergency firmware to recover the previous firmware. When everything was set to installation the progress bar got stuck again at 90% this time. Now, I don't know what to do, I have this permanent message on screen "An error occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software." I can't turn off my phone, I can only use the download mode. So my question is what Software do I have to flash in order to recover my phone? I'm downloading the Oreo update (which gave me problems before) but honestly, this is the first time that happens something like that. Do I have to flash Nougat like I had? I'll trip knox I guess but right now I can only think off flashing the lastest firmware through Odin. What would you recommend me to do? Thanks in advance!

You can get out of download mode by holding volume down and power button until screen goes black. If it was me, I would download the latest oreo firmware for your model and flash it in Odin. If that didn't work I would huck it across the floor. JK

Yes, I did it. I've managed to download the lastest firmware, oddly the one that won't install via OTA or Smart Switch. I was wondering if I can flash an unbranded version from my country the next time, I couldn't do it the last time with Nougat. How can I do it if my phone is from a company? Thanks for your answer!
I hope this post help if someone has the same issue after updating an erroneous firmware from Samsung servers via OTA or Smart Switch. My company is Claro from Argentina. My solution was to download the latest firmware from sammobile's site and flash it though Odin. This phone with Oreo is amazing! Cheers.

It should work to flash unbranded firmware, but I am not sure what would happen with your CSC. Personally, I would stick with the right one. But if you you want to change CSC to unbranded, there is a tutorial somewhere on XDA.
