I hope someone can help me out with this (I guess most of my posts arent worth bothering with as they usually go untouched by anyone). I'm trying to figure out a way to disable the touch button backlight on a Google Edition ROM. I have been searching for an answer since the Google Edition hit. All I can ever find is how to disable on GSIII ROMs (non ge). If anyone can please help me out I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!

Screen Filter is an app that can disable the backlight of the softkeys. Set it to auto-start at boot and you should be good. I know its not a direct fix but its a low impact app that shouldnt effect battery life or operation.

Seems to work for me. Did it dim the screen at all (thats its main function)? Did you see the check box "enable softkey back light" (uncheck it) at the bottom of the app ui?

Yes, it did dim the screen, but if i uncheck the enable softkey back light, anytime I touch the screen the backlights still come on. Are you on a G.E. rom? I am currently on Infamouse G.E.

No im not. I am on AOSP (Slim Bean) though.
There are options to do this in AOKP and CM roms. Anybody know how those builds pull it off?

Hello,
Just a request, because I'm sure Google will disable it sooner or later anyway. Is there any developer out there or anyone for that matter that would know a way to enable access to the SRGB screen setting or have an ADB command to enter that would disable it? Please let me know if it's possible and as always thank you in advance

The only option for color changing is this:
I'm pretty sure sRGB is a secure setting, so it can't be changed via adb or any non-root method.

On the Pixel 2 XL? Sure isn't the case on my stock Pixel XL (I stopped rooting once I got the Nexus 6P). The mode to toggle sRGB is right there in the developer settings under "Running Services" on the XL but completely missing in the 2 XL.
Considering how much people are whining about it, they'll obviously release some sort of update to allow people to disable it.

It's not that something is really "wrong" with the display. It's that Google for whatever unknown reason decided to tune a high end POLED display to sRGB mode which tends to wash out colors.
Coming from a Note 8, the display is noticeably less sharp. Colors are off from a more saturated Samsung panel. Yellows look dark and angled viewing has blue tints.
It's not bad, it's just different, and a lot of people are noticing it. Many from Android media outlets. Apparently Google has acknowledged the display issues and is going to modify it.

Has anyone with the phone tried looking in some of the activities options which typically have many setting hidden but available to launch from? That's the first place I'm going to check when I have the phone. Either use a launcher with activity ability or install an app:

Installed the app and ran it, it only shows a list for itself and Nova. Long press on itself create shortcut doesn't do anything. Settings, home app doesn't show activity launcher. I'm going to take a wild guess and say it's not compatible with Oreo as the last update was 2015.

Yeah you have to switch to all activities from the top pulldown
On 2nd thought, mine crashed on my N6p on Oreo so it may not be compatible. Try installing Nova Launcher. It comes with activity launcher. I believe you just press and hold somewhere on screen and choose activities.

What are the best uses you guys have found for the squeeze feature? Settings I found useful are -
1) Skip track with a short squeeze and play previous track with a long squeeze.
2) Take a pic while the camera app is open.
Anything else that people have found useful, especially in daily use?
Ummm i didn't know we could use the squeeze feature to skip tracks, how does it work?
I only use it for Google Assistant that's it, i really didn't know we could use it for other things.

Yup, double squeeze implements a minimum delay of 300ms. Long squeeze doesn't seem to affect single squeeze however.

Hi Xdaers,
I'm sure that most of you know about 'Note Buddy' and 'S Pen Toolbox' allowing you to customise the 'attach/detach' sounds of the 'S Pen', along with some other features.
I'm hoping that someone can point me to an app or method that will allow me to customise the sound emitted when you move the device too far away from the 'S Pen'.
I was able to do this on my 'Note 8', now I've forgotten how, but was definitely not through 'Root'.
Any help would be much appreciated, this is the last step in the customisation of my 'Note 10 plus 5G' and its driving me crazy.
Peace...
I think those aspects (sounds of s-pen) no longer work. I mean Note Buddy no longer works for me --itll work for like 2 minutes then revert back to stock sound. So I dont know at this point if those other sounds can be changed

definitely works on my 'Exynos', I don't use it's other features so can't attest to those. The only thing is that it doesn't include changing the proximity alarm sound.

It's not about the function, it's about the sound, and you'd know this if you'd read the thread from the start.
For instance with 'S Pen toolbox' I'm able to change the S Pen detach sound to that of a 'light sabre' and the attach sound to that of a door being locked. With 'S Pen keeper' the proximity alarm sound has been changed to that of a klaxon.
Small things, but they make the device uniquely mine.
I just installed it and change the sound, but it doesn't play it when I use the S Pen

Have you given it 'Administrator' permission?, there's a toggle in the app for it.
Also, make sure that notification volume is turned on.
Ensure that no 'Accessibility Services' are enabled that may interfere with notification sounds, then restart the device.

I guess 1 out of 2 isn't too bad, considering that no updates in years, but for me, S Pen Keeper also works for the proximity functionality.
Maybe try a different sound file/format.

Have a look to Pentastic original Samsung App for Spen ?
Pentastic is fantastic.
These are the customisations that should have shipped with the S pen from the get go.
No need for 3rd party apps now, except for the 'proximity alarm' customisation, so Samsung if you're listening, please add this in the next 'Pentastic' update.
No go with Pie... screw Q
Hi, i was wondering if its possible to port the face recognition option we used to have on older android versions as a mod on the pixel 6 pro. I believe they used the front camera.
Are there any accuracy problems associated with using front camera?
I just needed a faster option to unlock at work as my hands get kinda dirty and the FP sensor on pixel 6 is sensitive to dust unlike the one on my pixel 3 XL (RIP legend).
If there is a solution that exists already, please forgive my naivety and point me to the thread/discussion for it. Thank you!
I don't think there is currently a solution and I doubt there will be unless Google includes it later.
Can you use smart unlock, with your works WiFi? Or location unlock if it has that?
There were reports that FaceID is in the code, but that it was not used on the P6 because it drains the battery. Since the battery is not great as is, I can see the point. I also wonder how secure it is, as Apple uses dedicated hardware to ensure security (thus the notch), but Google seems to rely on the camera alone -- I assume it's a more secure unlock than the totally inon-secure fake FaceID unlocks on many Chinese phones, like Xiaomi.
On another note, I am trying to use my Garmin watch as a trusted device, but about half the time it doesn't work and the phone would ask for PIN. The trusted device implementation, at least with a watch, is kind of a joke, so I am thinking of disabling it at this point.
I am using Trusted Location. Seems like its working fine. Google 'begs' to have you turn 'on' location function for several of its niceties to work. So security joins the growing pile.

Trusted location is poor security, for many reasons.
Anyone at the location can unlock your phone, so for most of us it's not a solution.

Was about to say this. Wifi/Location unlocking when at work is not a good idea.
There is a reason why we lock our phones, and no human is perfect - you might forget it for a moment, or get distracted - whatever.
If someone doesn't care for security in any way (I am perfect & my phone will 24/7 stay on me, no matter what) then he/she/is doesn't need any sort of security active in the first place.

It can certainly be done, but you'll have to write some of the code for it yourself. There are a number of open source facial recognition packages available that you can leverage for this.

I work in construction and so there's usually no wifi at work. And the location differs almost everyday so that won't be a viable solution as well.

Nononono, wrong approach. You do NOT want to bypass phone security. You want to integrate into it. Android is an open source operating system, just find the code where the 4 included unlock mechanisms are defined (swipe/pattern/pin/password), and add your own in the same way.

Fax cus I'm sure that "don't turn off screen if I'm looking at it" feature uses battery and it's ALWAYS ON when you're on your phone if you turn it on. Face ID only on when you use it, how can that even affect battery ?

Yeah but it would only be looking for one thing. Maybe all the battery used on image processing for FaceID adds up over the many unlocks during the course of the day. Thats why i am keen to have it enabled only while I'm at work as the FP works fine in all other circumstances.
