Hi,
Is there a wait time to use OEM Unlocking on the Sony XA2 on Android 8.0? Some vendors require you to wait 3-7 days from first boot.
Under the Service menu it indicates I can unlock my bootloader. However "OEM Unlocking" is greyed out in developer options.
I connected to the internet and it is still greyed out. Do I need to insert a SIM card inserted or do I create an Xperia account?
(Also does anyone know what service runs when you click OEM unlocking, is it a Google or Sony application? Can I check logs somewhere?)
Solved: It work when I tried again later on a different wifi connection. No need for a Sim card.

Hi sonyxa2user
I got my bootloader unlock code within an hour of requesting from Sony.
You may have to put a SIM card in, my Sony Xperia XA2 had a pre-loaded Tesco Mobile SIM in it when I unlocked my bootloader.
I think it may be Sony' service which runs (Have not researched this as I am not bothered since I can unlock bootloader regardless of which service is run).

I had no wait time on my XA2, the "OEM Unlocking" option was immediately available. I didn't have to insert a SIM card or even sign in with a Google account. No idea about the service.
Is your phone up-to-date? Is it possible the bootloader has already been unlocked?

Thanks for the replies.
I checked for updates and it worked the next time I connected to wifi. It has been a week since I first booted it but I think that's irrelevant.

Nope. Your devices are locked by carrier/manufacturer by default, so there is no way currently.

SIM unlock and carrier/manufacturer lock are two different things.
SIM unlock is for restricting the user from using user from using any other SIM that the one it can with. So suppose if You have carrier A1 and A2, and You brought the phone from A1, then You cannot use A2 SIM card directly. You need to unlock it for SIM from the carrier.
In Your case, the carrier or Sony, for Your area, wants to restrict development on device, hence they apply a special type of lock at starting only, and for now, there is no way to change it.

I know that they are different things, but I think they come together
like if the phone is sim locked then it's bootloader cannot be opened; but if the phone is sim unlocked the bootloader can be opened
I bought my XS from T-mo and it's sim locked and it's bootloader cannot be opened, but I bought my Z2 sim unlocked and it's bootloader can be opened, and I also checked many Xperia phones and it's true for them what I said

Well You could always try, but from what I have read, it's not the case for Xperia S, and usually the phone which is carrier branded has option disabled, but it is never the case that one rely on other, as some regions have unbranded phones yet they have the option of unlocking bootloader disabled.
As about other Xperia phone's, I did read that You could change the status, but it needed a little hardware modding, and worked on older Sony Ericsson models.
And as per what You said, You must have got the Z2 unbranded(without carrier) or even from carrier who has allowed the device to have unlock bootloader option available. So point being, it really depends on the carrier/manufacturer whether to give the option or not.
Hello,
I bought an unlocked Pixel 3XL from Swappa. I've started the phone with no sim, no wifi, and bootloader unlocking is grayed out. I've reset, started phone with the sim, and same thing. I use T-mobile for my carrier and when I open the unlock app, it says device is already unlocked.
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader, any ideas? Phone says unlocked, but unlock bootloader tab in developer options is grayed out.

It's probably a Verizon version which cannot be bootloader unlocked.

The XT1952DL G7 Play is called "Optimo" by Straighttalk, (ST) & Total Wireless , and "Revvlry" by T-Mobile.
I have the ST version; the bootloader is locked with the "OEM Unlock" option (in Developer Options) greyed-out. And, the mobile network is locked to ST/Verizon.
I own the phone (not blacklisted) but haven't had it long enough for ST to give me an unlock code.
Is there ANY way to unlock this XT1952DL???
Thanks, Will C.

Basically any Moto or phone in general from Verizon or att cannot be bootloader unlocked as the mentioned carriers do not allow it
XT1952DL - SIM unlocked
I got the SIM unlocked on my ST Moto G7 Optimo.
'Was locked to StraightTalk (VZW), but now works fine with a GSM (At&t mvno) sim card.
However, the bootloader is still locked down tight!
Would love to get rid of that ST/TracFone firmware!

I was able to unlock it. Find usb unlock for Optimo Xt-1952. They log remotely on the phone to unlock it.
Great find, I googled that and have to say I was unsure but gave it a go. I have a Tracfone version that was on Walmert Family Mobile, tried to put my Canadian sim in but didn't get any unlock prompts, took it to an unlocking service but they couldn't do anything with it.
Read you post and googled it and they managed to unlock it on the 2nd attempt, great service was all done within 30 mins of contacting them, like you said bootloader is still locked but nothing much I can do about that.
Unlock
So I've Google what you posted about you unlocking your phone & can't find anything , I have a straight talk "tracphone" would love to unlock, is there anything thing u can tell me to help me do so

Hi, you can unlock the carrier by reflashing the OS on the phone. PM me if you have further inquiries.

Really? Just got in contact with the seller and he will unlock it with EE.
But can you flash the pixel on locked bootloader? and it will get rid of carrier lock as well?
.
Yes, it gets rid of the carrier lock and it changes to the International version. Though there is another way you can unlock it and that doesn't require flashing the phone.

That requires paying for an unlock code for the phone, they are usually between 5 to 8 US$.

I would not trust this muhammad guy as he is using "sim unlock" language interchangably with device lock. If it is a verizon locked device with OEM unlock greyed out, it is my understanding there is no way to ever fix that. Verizon is the one that implemented that lock, they will not help you unlock it, even if you tell them you are a developer. They tell you to get a google pixel phone directly from google for developer purposes.
having your phone "sim-unlocked" is very different from the device being unlocked.
v12xke said:
If you have already 100% WIPED your phone, skipped through setup and gone straight to dev settings with an active Wi-FI signal and get a greyed out OEM unlock , you will likely never succeed because you inadvertently purchased a bootloader locked phone. SIM unlocked definitely does not equal BL unlockable.

But if it is a Verizon version that was able to be OEM Unlocksd and flashed to LOS like I have done, it is now unlocked? Somehow I was lucky in being able to enable OEM unlock on mine.
Hello everyone
I'm stuck in a horrible situation here if someone might be able to help would be a great help.
So basically I want to Unlock my phones bootloader but it happens to be that the Phone network is broken, I mean there is some issue with the motherboard where even If you insert a Sim it shows No SIM as. So I've been using this device just for surfing Yt and stuff.
So when I try to unlock the bootloader by going into the Developer option > Unlock Status and it needs a SIM card inserted to add device and account.
Is there a work around to bypass this.
What I have tried so far using MI unlock tool but it throws error.

after long time searching and tryng out both official and non official methods for unlocking bootloader, or at least bypass it I find this method which was 100% perfectly worked and made me able to flash any other custom rom or recovery
