Nope. Your devices are locked by carrier/manufacturer by default, so there is no way currently.

SIM unlock and carrier/manufacturer lock are two different things.
SIM unlock is for restricting the user from using user from using any other SIM that the one it can with. So suppose if You have carrier A1 and A2, and You brought the phone from A1, then You cannot use A2 SIM card directly. You need to unlock it for SIM from the carrier.
In Your case, the carrier or Sony, for Your area, wants to restrict development on device, hence they apply a special type of lock at starting only, and for now, there is no way to change it.

I know that they are different things, but I think they come together
like if the phone is sim locked then it's bootloader cannot be opened; but if the phone is sim unlocked the bootloader can be opened
I bought my XS from T-mo and it's sim locked and it's bootloader cannot be opened, but I bought my Z2 sim unlocked and it's bootloader can be opened, and I also checked many Xperia phones and it's true for them what I said

Well You could always try, but from what I have read, it's not the case for Xperia S, and usually the phone which is carrier branded has option disabled, but it is never the case that one rely on other, as some regions have unbranded phones yet they have the option of unlocking bootloader disabled.
As about other Xperia phone's, I did read that You could change the status, but it needed a little hardware modding, and worked on older Sony Ericsson models.
And as per what You said, You must have got the Z2 unbranded(without carrier) or even from carrier who has allowed the device to have unlock bootloader option available. So point being, it really depends on the carrier/manufacturer whether to give the option or not.

If I get the Xperia Play Sim Unlocked...

If I get the Xperia Play sim unlocked, Can I then unlock the bootloader?
if you unlock your bootloader via jinx or alejandrissimo it will unlock your sim at the same time... i used alejandrissimo, very professional and was unlocked in minutes but it is the paid way.
unlocking your sim will not change anything at all to do with your bootloader im afraid, if your sim locked the paid way is the only way - $24 well worth it!!
Looks like thats the way im going to have to go. On the plus side, I get paid tuesday. =)
But yeah, I was just wondering cause I know people were like you cant unlock the bootloader if its a sim locked phone and all this other stuff and I was thinking, What if I called up ATT and got them to unlock the IMEI?
But if that wont change anything, I guess the paid method is how im going to have to go about doing this.
Thanks
If you get it sim unlocked your bootloader will then be allowed to be unlocked.

I believe the bootloader is specific Per-Device.
You can check if you can in your settings, excuse my newbieness,
Settings > Root Status (or something to this effect)
If your bootloader can be unlocked it'll be listed there.
I dont think the status of your SIM (locked or unlocked) affects the bootloader.

Well... Then I guess Im just gonna call up ATT and get the unlock code. Unlock the phone's sim lock and see if I can, Worse comes to worse, I cant. I still have the paid method available and I havent paid any money what so ever.

Ive looked there and it doesnt show. Which is what brought my hopes down in the first place but everywhere I looked... it said I cant because the device is simlocked. Which is why i wanna know if getting the sim lock removed would then allow me to access and unlock the Bootloader via FastBoot.
I have never owned a phone that has stopped me from rooting and installing custom roms to it. This is kinda a dissapointment but on the plus side, its a good phone.
Hard to get an unlock code from AT&T Or so I heard, but if you do, if you can tell me what you said, that'd be great.
If you do get an unlock code from them, Cant hurt to try to unlock the bootloader after that.

Im a "Valued" member of ATT. Had them for years. So, They dont question me. As long as youve had the phone on your account for 90 days, they dont bother you if you ask for a unlock code.
I will most likely do this tomorrow and will post the outcome. because like I said, if it just takes unlocking the sim card from ATT to be able to unlock the bootloader... id rather do that.
Im not against paying 24$ to have it done.. but why not try what I can for free first?
Hi everyone, I'm completely new to smartphones, just bought an Xperia Play 800i. I have been keenly reading the forums, going through everything I need to know.
My android version is 2.3.4 and build number is 4.0.2.A.0.42. Phone is network locked.
If you don't mind letting me know, the best way to start is by unlocking the SIM right? Then unlock the bootloader, then custom kernel and flashing?
Your advise would be appreciated.
AFAIK regular SIM unlocking doesn't let you unlock your bootloader.
I've read of people who pay a little or get sim unlock from other methods which isn't enough for the bootloader.
It's just that Alejandrissimo's method unlocks both sim & allows for bootloader (it's a 2 for 1 method).
Hope it helps, and if AT&T gives you a free sim unlock code then give it a shot, but it's said it doesn't work that way.
I'm trying Alejandrissimo's method and I'm lost. Have PM'd him and waiting for his reply. I am not on the AT&T network.

Thought that was only T-Mobile. Sadly I dont even have an account with them, Just bought the phone from ebay. So im probably gonna have to spend more to get the thing sim-unlocked.
Oh, look what I found on AT&T's website.
Requirements for monthly wireless plans:
Your wireless service has been active for 90 days or longer
Your account is current and in good standing
Your phone is not sold exclusively by AT&T
Your phone's unlock code is available from the manufacturer
Your phone does not have a long-term exclusive service agreement, or the contract time period has expired

I'm stuck at the USB over Network stage, keeps saying server unreachable when I select MY PC. What am I doing wrong? So frustrated!
You can get your Xperia unlocked in less than 10 minutes by Alejandrissimo. When he SIM unlocks your Xperia he will also automatically unlock bootloader.
You can visit his website here.

I visited his website, downloaded the zip file, and then I'm stuck not knowing what to do next.
So, you are saying I have to wait for him to respond to my request? So, I guess the USB over Network program will be used by him, to remote unlock my Xperia? I'm cool with that because I want to pay for the service.

[Q] If I root my phome will it also get SIM unlocked for all carriers?

I am portuguese and I bought a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play which is SIM locked for TMN this means i can't use my Vodafone SIM card on it.
Since all my friends are Vodafone I'd really like to use my Vodafone SIM card but its sort of expensive to get the unlock code so I was thinking that maybe if I root it maybe it would also get SIM unlocked so I could use another carrier's card.
Nope
.nope rooting your phone just gives you extra privileges but it doesn't unlock your SIM... Unlocking your bootloader unlocks your SIM but you have to pay for that to

You do not have to pay to get your phone unlocked if its a 800i. you can do it directly from Sony's website. If you have a US version of the phone then yes you have to pay. tho i have the 800i and unlocked it my self directly from Sony's Developer side. it's free so assuming you have to pay for it is wrong in some cases ! when it's infact free just as often

If i unlock my branded phone, will i be able to unlock bootloader?

So, i have a branded phone and can't unlock the bootloader.
Will i be able to unlock the bootloader if i unlock my phone by contacting the phone network operator?
Also, will these two options do the same thing with my phone?
unlock at: phone network operator
unlock at: http://unlock-bootloader.com/unlock/

Removing the SIM lock (which is what you appear to be referring to) does not give one the ability to unlock the bootloader. However, I believe unlocking the bootloader will also remove the SIM lock. I can't say for sure, since my version of the Play (R800x, the Verizon CDMA one) does not use a SIM card at all.
Thanks for the answer!

[Q] Unlocking a not unlockable Bootloader

Hi,
I got a Z1 compact and I need to remove the Simlock to use a SIM card from another carrier.
After reading a lot of other posts I'm assuming that I need to unlock the bootloader to do that.
The problem is, that the service info says that the bootloder unlock is not allowed..
Is there any possibility to unlock the bootloader anyway?
Thank you for any helpful answers.

No. And will probably never happen either.

You don't need to unlock the bootloader to unlock the SIM. Those are 2 different unlocks.

XT1952DL ?

The XT1952DL G7 Play is called "Optimo" by Straighttalk, (ST) & Total Wireless , and "Revvlry" by T-Mobile.
I have the ST version; the bootloader is locked with the "OEM Unlock" option (in Developer Options) greyed-out. And, the mobile network is locked to ST/Verizon.
I own the phone (not blacklisted) but haven't had it long enough for ST to give me an unlock code.
Is there ANY way to unlock this XT1952DL???
Thanks, Will C.

Basically any Moto or phone in general from Verizon or att cannot be bootloader unlocked as the mentioned carriers do not allow it
XT1952DL - SIM unlocked
I got the SIM unlocked on my ST Moto G7 Optimo.
'Was locked to StraightTalk (VZW), but now works fine with a GSM (At&t mvno) sim card.
However, the bootloader is still locked down tight!
Would love to get rid of that ST/TracFone firmware!

I was able to unlock it. Find usb unlock for Optimo Xt-1952. They log remotely on the phone to unlock it.
Great find, I googled that and have to say I was unsure but gave it a go. I have a Tracfone version that was on Walmert Family Mobile, tried to put my Canadian sim in but didn't get any unlock prompts, took it to an unlocking service but they couldn't do anything with it.
Read you post and googled it and they managed to unlock it on the 2nd attempt, great service was all done within 30 mins of contacting them, like you said bootloader is still locked but nothing much I can do about that.
Unlock
So I've Google what you posted about you unlocking your phone & can't find anything , I have a straight talk "tracphone" would love to unlock, is there anything thing u can tell me to help me do so
