Battery life - Moto Z2 Force Questions & Answers

Hi
After quite a bit of hassle, finally managed to get 15.1 and Gapps running on myZ2, latest lineage 17 November
Battery life is worse than awfull, 10% down in about 30 mins, with almost no apps running, greenify on for checking, just reddit and browser basically
So what's up? As with such a bad drainage i would have thought people were screaming, but haven't seen any posts on this
I have a motomod battery fixed a, sadly hadn't realised these weren't used by lineage ot i wouldn't have flashed....
Any ideas?

Battery mods should work on all ROMs built for Nash. My screen time is double what you're saying. I get roughly 6-7hrs screen time

I get great battery life on every ROM I've ran on this phone. 15.1 now for weeks with an average of over 8 hours of SOT

Hi
Your answer made me think
I unplugged the battery mod. Straight away the phone showed me that my internal battery was empty, strange...
Tried charging it, always showing empty... Stranger still
So I switched off the phone and started charging it, a couple of mins later, it showed 100%, bug in software somewhere....
I also charged the battery mod while unplugged, and then plugged it to the phone
Went into motomods in settings and restarted the mod
All seems perfectly normal now
It seems when flashing the rom with the mod plugged in confused the settings, might be better to unplug it so that the soft doesn't get confused
Many thanks
Minty95
PS : running the 18 nov update, the LED (white colour) sometimes on, how to switch it of or modify the settings ? haven't found the notifications settings yet

There is a known issue. Don't reboot the phone with your battery mod plugged in. The system will recognise it as the main battery. Plug it in after fully booting.

Is there a notification led on the z2 forze?

There is. Motorola didn't utilise it. In aosp, it is enabled.

Seams like I got to install a custom rom then, but first I got to read a lot about this device and how-to's before I try. Would like to get the led

The Z2 works far better with lineage than the stock rom, though it was a hassle getting it up and running
Still haven't managed to get trwp to stay
Sometimes the led is in though not for long and haven't figured out what switches it in
Battery Motomod works great, am very pleased with it so far

for twrp to stick, after you flash the rom, and before you reboot.. You need to flashthe twrp.zip.. The reboot into recovery, the boot system...

Think I tried that and got stuck in trwp, maybe I'll try again, though tired of reinstalling everything
Especially now all is just great, (exept the trwp)
I've got magisk installed but haven't learnt how to use it yet, as apparently it can install trwp also

[Q] 4.4.2 Battery Life issues - less than 25% total life compared to previous version

Hello, new to the forums here. I recently updated to 4.4.2 on my LG Optimus G Pro and I went from having a battery that lasted all day, sometimes two days to my phone being dead by the time I get home from work for the day ever since the update.
Two days ago I had 1hr18min of screen time within a 6 hours off the charger and the phone was at 15% battery life left. Today, I had 13 minutes of on screen time and at the end of my 6 hour shift my phone was at 40% and dead a few hours after I got home. I have GPS, bluetooth, NFS all disabled and my brightness set to 30%.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm thinking of doing a factory reset and just not updating to the new version of android when it prompts.
Thanks

Get betterbatterystats and see if you phone deep sleeps. If not then check what the wakelocks are in partial wakelocks. If it's a kernel problem maybe you need to flash a different kernel.

i am running stock phone. it is not rooted or anything
Same exact battery drain problem. Im on stock e980 rom (rooted) with no custom kernel.
Gsam battery monitor app is showing the kernel as keeping my phone wake for the entire time my phone has been unplugged.
The problem seems to come and go though. One day itll be fine, but another day the battery will be sucked dry fast.

I'm running stock rooted for e980 and have pretty good battery life .... Try clearing Google play services data and rebooting ... Check and see what's draining your battery mol its pretty easy

I've done this twice in the past 3 days....
I'm sick of having to set up my phone over and over again. And this is a new phone too. I just got it Monday under warranty because my old phone broke.
It's getting annoying. I used to get 14-17hrs+ of battery life (casual use, usually ending the day at 30-50% too, so I never even reached 0%) with my old phone on Jelly Bean. Now with Kitkat, I get around 6 hours if I'm lucky! According to Wakelock detector, my phone is awake 85%+ of the day! All it points to is Kernel (Android OS). I see lots of Wlan_wake triggers too, so I suspect wifi, but even with wifi off, the drainage still occurs. And I only have a 2GB data plan shared between 3 people, so it's not like I can just use data all the time either. I actually NEED wifi.

do you have an SD card installed? Maybe you can try to remove that and get rid of all other media from your phone storage. Might be a media scanner problem? Or maybe you can try to disable auto sync, and check if Google play services is the culprit.

The media scanner usually shows up in the battery stats window though, and it isn't. I've had a corrupted SD card on my tablet once before and it caused media scanner to go berserk, but the Mediascanner entry appeared under Settings>Battery as the highest battery consumer.
In this case of my phone right now, it is Android OS in Settings>Battery. According to Wakelock detector, GSam, and BetterBatteryStats, it's more specifically Kernel.

Have you tried reflashing your firmware, instead of just doing a factory reset?
I assume you are rooted since you are using BBS and wake lock detector on KK. Why not flash a custom rom?

Hi i had the same problem as you but i started digging inside the system of the phone i found the problem but you will require root access. If you have root you have to delet a lib file tand it carrier iq wich run in background and drains your battery the file to delete is libiq_client.so do that and you will see an increase in battery life

I did this on Tuesday or Wednesday.
... I messed something up on my phone while trying to install a custom recovery, so I was basically forced to reinstall everything. I'm on stock ATT e980 ROM (on an E980) + root. I reflashed the Jelly Bean tot file and then did the OTA update with no apps installed.
On the phone that got warrantied, I had flashed the E980 kitkat backup (now has a flashable version too), and the battery life seemed to be much better on it for about a week, and then the issues started there too.
I just rebooted the phone into recovery and wiped cache and Dalvik cache. Many people on Kitkat are reporting that this helps, but only for about 2 days then the issue returns. Obviously, I want a permanent solution.

I just tried this right now. Will see what happens.
Will report back if I see anything noticeable.
How would this this battery though? Like, what does it do? Are there any adverse effects to removing it?
EDIT: BTW, I know you weren't addressing this at me, but I'm still trying it LOL

Yes, I'm rooted and I absolutely hate custom roms. They take out all the features of the phone that I originally bought the phone for, like Smart Screen, the IR remote (yes, I know it can be ported), and the quick memo button. Plus I used custom ROMs on my old SGS2 and they always caused me tons of problems. Crashes, overheating, random reboots, random SODs, etc etc etc. Plus I hate the AOSP feel. I know it's true Android, but I just don;t like it.

I'm still getting more than usual battery drain, but it is better now.
I just got a replacement OEM LG battery, so I will try that to see if maybe the battery is defective. When I got my phone replaced under warranty, they didn't have batteries in stock, so they just gave me back my old one and ordered me a knew one. The old phone was overheating a lot too, so maybe the battery is bad.
UPDATE: OK, MUUUUUUUUUCH better battery now!
I put in that new battery and "recalibrated" it by draining it to 0% and charging with the power off. Once it reached 100%, I let it charge an extra hour, unplugged, and started up the phone.
I also installed Qualcomm Snapdragon's Battery Guru. I set it up so that it's mostly managing app syncing, but I also set it up so that it will not rely on location services to turn on/off my wifi. I don't want to leave my location services on all the time. I don't know how it is on Kitkat, but on older Android versions (ICS and GB), leaving GPS on was a huge battery drainer! I still treat location like it was back then.
Anyways, it will take a few days for the app to learn my usage patterns, but it's already helping by making certain apps only sync when I open them, etc. I suspect that all the wlan_wake wakelocks are being caused by auto-sync but I'm reluctant to turn it completely off since i rely on it to sync my work schedule, calendar, etc between my phone and tablet. I just wish there was a system setting to allow auto-sync to run every X hours or something. I really only need the sync to run every 6 hours or so.
It's been about 35mins now with 6mins of screen time and the phone is still at 100%. A few text messages and the installation of Battery Guru too. This is normal and how things used to be. After a while, the phone will most likely go to 99% and then have faster drain, but it shouldn't be so rapid like before. Earlier today, after 30mins, the battery would be at at least 95% or lower by now! After a full day, the battery usage graph would should a 45 degree angle too! It used to be an almost level, very gradual angle instead.
I should also mention that for a while, I was using a Zero Lemon slim battery (3150mAh). I bought it because of all the hype Zero Lemon was getting here on XDA, but I really regret it now. I used it for 2 weeks (1 week on my broken phone and 1 week on my replacement) and the drain wasn't consistent, even after several calibration attempts. It lasted me all day though, but I'd be stuck at maybe 3% for like an hour, then while in deep sleep, the battery would "magically charge" to 6%.
After I swapped back to the OEM battery, I don't think I recalibrated, so I wonder if my phone thought I was still using the Zero Lemon.
I'm planning to return the Zero Lemon.
UPDATE2: It's been a couple hours now and the Android OS is starting to retreat from the #1 slot in the battery consumption list!
Screen is #1 now and Android OS went from 65% usage to 14%! :good: :good:
UPDATE3: :crying: OK, it's broken again. I didn't do anything to the phone, but when the phone hit 50%, I left it alone for 2 hours and the battery drained 30% while it was supposed to be sleeping. Android OS is back up to 80% usage!
Wifi on, Location off, Bluetooth off, auto-sync on. I'm trying auto-sync off today to see if there's any dramatic improvement.
UPDATE4: I might be on to something now. I noticed 2 things: 1st, when the screen is off and the phone is SUPPOSED to be in deep sleep, the back of the phone stays warm to the touch. It wasn't hot, but it was warm enough to be noticeable. 2nd, I had System Tuner installed yesterday but uninstalled it this morning. Despite uninstalling and rebooting, the phone was still draining battery fast (I still lost 25% in 2 hours today!). I noticed that System Tuner had added a script to System/etc/init.d, so I deleted that and rebooted. Now the phone seems to be sleeping (says so in BetterBatteryStats and WakeLockDetector), and the back of the phone is COLD to the touch when doing so. I took a shower today (I take fairly long showers too LOL), and then checked my email, and the battery life didn't decrease at all during that time while it was asleep.
Obviously, I need to test this throughout the day now, but this is definite progress, if not the solution.
Also, on my warrantied phone, when I had the Zero Lemon battery inserted, battery drain was high (battery's fault), so I installed System Tuner then too, trying to tweak the phone. After switching back to the stock battery, the drain remained, but most likely due to System Tuner's script.
Then when I got my replacement phone, I ALSO installed System Tuner and of course, I got battery drain issues! I factory reset, but did not install System Tuner, but the problem still remained. However, it probably remained because the reset doesn't remove system files, so this script was still in the init.d folder.
FINAL: I ended up flashing the stock ROM again (I used Eazy Kat 1.0 this time). My phone began bugging out on me. Random crashes here and there, mobile data randomly disappearing (no LTE/4G/3G at all), and worst of all, people were having difficulty hearing me during calls. Reflashing seems to have worked perfectly this time. *knock on wood*
FYI: The last flashes I did, I used .tot files to flash back to stock Jelly Bean and then updated to Kitkat via OTA.

I stumbled across this post and tried that fix. I'll check back in later to see what it does.

Crazy Android System ?!

About 3 days ago the battery drain on my Nexus 5X went crazy. I found out that the "app" Android System do not let the phone sleep and keeps it awake all the time. That is why the phone can not even get into doze mode and drains about 8% per hour when the screen is off. I tried restarting the device and also force stopping the Android System. Both without any succes. Do anybody knows what to do with it? Or should I just wait if it will go back to normal? I do have screenshots, but the XDA will not let me post outside links...
Interested about that.
Ur screenshot may be useful, host them in a site like imgur and replace dots by other letters.

I am having the same problem. It occurs randomly, most often when I have just charged the phone and removed the cable. If i am correct, a wakelock under the name *backup* is holding the phone awake, it might be the same in ur case. I've done a research on this, turned out this is unfixable unless you have some sort of wakeblocker, which my current rom lacks of. I tried using xposed with its modules, but it gave me a ton of bootloops and i gave up on it. The only temporary fix for me is to reboot the phone. Until it happens again. No clean flash nor anything i have tried seemed to have helped. I even tried disabling all services and receivers from Android System, no luck again. That is one hefty problem

I have exactly same problem with wakelock. It happens only after charging. Everything is OK after restart.
It has happened to me sometimes on my old HTC One X and I think it happened also once on this 5X, but it was just for about a day or so. It disappeared itself with time, I didn't do anything with it then. Now it's been 6 days, I have to charge the phone twice as frequently and neither the reboot nor the force stopping everything works. I really don't know what to do in this case. Also this phone isn't rooted yet, so I can't just flash the system again as on my old HTC... I'm still hoping it will disappear by itself asap
But do you anybody have any other ideas what can I try to do to stop that crazy system app?
same problem here...
had the phone about 350 hours with no restart and i thought i would give it a reboot..
same think happened...android system was going from 2% to 20% in a matter of hours..
installed an app called GSam Battery monitor..showed me the phone was not going in deep sleep (Doze mode) at all...
here is an attachment if anyone can understand better than me..
I posted a similar thing in the battery life thread. Very odd really as I've had the phone a few months now but it also only started with me a few weeks ago. Really can't think of a trigger for it... I doubt the April update would have been significant enough to create an issue, but who knows.
Exactly. After about 4 months of working excellently and about 400 hours without restarting, after charging it's immediately goes into this "mode" when the Android System won't let the phone sleep. Even restart didn't help me, but now after 3 restarts it goes to normal. One bad thing... after every single one charging, every time I put the phone on the charger it goes crazy again and I have to restart the phone after every cutting of of the charger... it makes me really angry when the phone is only 4 months old and even the "okay" battery life isn't that good on this phone... God I just need to find a solution, that's insane...

THIS!!!!
the phones battery life was a big "ok i can just play a bit less so i can get through the day and IF anything happens i know it has fast charge so ok"
nowadays i have to reboot after EVERY charge....
p.s.
anyone that faces the same problem but WITH mai's security update? do we have any hope that it will fix that problem?
Not sure if it's a one-off, but I decided to uninstall the game "8 Ball Pool" by miniclip as it appeared on my battery usage stats when I'd not opened it in days. Since then, even after a recharge, the phone seems to be going to sleep as normal.
I'll monitor to see how things go but perhaps it could genuinely be a rogue app. It's a little disappointing that doze wouldn't block the keep awake requests - I thought that was one of the main purposes of it.
The same issue occurs for my Nexus 5X: after device disconnected from a charger, Android System process starts to keep device awake until next restart. As I understand from comments above factory reset does not help to solve a problem. Has anybody met the similar problem with custom ROMs/kernels?

It started with the latest update I think. It hasn't happened once ever before. I hope they already know what's happening and with the May update it will be gone. I don't think there's any other solution when you don't want to flash custom ROM and stay on stock... :/ we have to wait.. :/

Hmmm, sorry for offtopic clarification... as of now I'm little bit confused about Android versioning, especially it's unclear for me: whether you mean as latest update: 6.0.1 or april security patch or model build number (like MHC19Q, which is currently on my device)?
I guess it must be April security patch. Some kind of problem in the Android System app that comes with the security patch. I don't really know in this case, but as I've said, it hasn't happened once before the April patch

I rolled back to MHC 19J. The April MTC19T Build cut my battery life in half. Android system being the top culprit. Deep sleep never going over 80%. Horrible idle drain. Would drain 15% over night while i slept. Exact same setup as before, no new apps. SOT went from about 5 hours to not even 3.

MTC19T is May update. I've updated my device to it yesterday and the issue hasn't been fixed yet: a device is still kept awake by Android System after disconnecting from a charger. @ScumDroid, could you please confirm there is no such issue on MTC19J after rolling back?

One bad thing... after every single one charging, every time I put the phone on the charger it goes crazy again and I have to restart the phone after every cutting of of the charger... it makes me really angry when the phone is only 4 months old and even the "okay" battery life isn't that good on this phone... God I just need to find a solution, that's insane...

Same issue. After running it for few months flawlessly, the Android System is keeping the device awake and only restarting it solving the problem temporarily. Charging the phone again starts the wake lock..
Most disappointing is it's the 'Android System' that causing the problem. If any app/game is linked to this, it should have been appeared as the culprit but unfortunately it's that 'System'.
Waiting for solution.
Samsung users are having the same problem.
I have found something on my Samsung Galaxy S6 in regards to 'Android OS' killing the battery. It might be the same for Nexus users, I've confirmed this on a Moto G 2015 running the latest MM update and on a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. By latest update, I mean the April security patch.
Check this and this.

MTC19T is May update. I've updated my device to it yesterday and the issue hasn't been fixed yet: a device is still kept awake by Android System after disconnecting from a charger. @ScumDroid, could you please confirm there is no such issue on MTC19J after rolling back?

Sorry for the late response mate. I have no issues with android system draining battery in MTC19J.

Android OS and System suddenly eating battery

Hey everyone,
So i have a stock HTC 10, no custom rom or whatsoever and the battery drain suddenly got very bad. Android OS is on 49% and Android system on 28%. Battery drained 8% over the last hour with 3 mins SOT. I've set back the phone to factory settings and didnt install anything back on it, turned stuff like the GPS location to power saving mode but nothing seems to help. Tons of forum posts also didn't help. I don't want to put a custom ROM on it for now, so i can always send it back to HTC.
One thing that i keep noticing is my CPU usage. Im checking this with the stock android CPU checker and the load is 12.13/13.28/13.68 with only the systemui active. I have forced all apps to stop once but there was no solution. This problem is occuring since mid august. Hopefully somebody is known with this problem.
Edit: running wakelock detector atm

I experienced something similar, funnily enough it was the charger cable causing it. Not sure how or why but as soon as I swapped from the faulty HTC official cable to another cheaper cable the drain stopped. Worth a try

I tried another cable, didnt solve the problem unfortunately.
I'm having a very similar issue. Battery drains way quicker in the last few months (20% in 30 minutes) just from web browsing. A factory reset didn't help me either.
I'm trying safe mode now to see what happens (hold the power button, then tap and hold the "power off" option).

Nougat battery drain

Okay so, I flashed the latest Resurrection Remix yesterday, great performance ; however, there's a weird battery drain occurring to me. I've already tried multiple guides using greenify, amplify, etc but none really worked. I was using Viperrom 5.10 and wanted to revert back to complete stock after noticing random restarts and this battery drain. I installed stock through twrp with the backup I had before flashing and rooting then installed the stock recovery but still there was a battery drain. I flashed Leedroid, PureFusion 7.1.2 and still same problem. I think this is caused by something in Nougat since all the ROMs I flashed were nougat and showed the same issue. Now, I've seen many people experience the same problem but no one found a proper solution. Any insight as to whatever causes this battery drain would be appreciated. I'm not a heavy user at all; I don't have any games and all my apps are basically just social media like Telegram, Whatsapp, Youtube, Instagram and get barely 2.5hrs of SoT. Something to note too, my phone reports illogical battery percentages and sometimes shuts down when less than 50~40% due to an empty battery. For example, I restarted my phone a few minutes ago and upon booting it was 98% from full charge then I rebooted again and it's 78%.I'm not sure if this is a faulty battery or something wrong with the calibration. I tried calibrating multiple times but still nothing. I never abused my battery and most times I charged my phone before it hit 10-20%. Also one more question, I've noticed that on PureFusion the charging amperage was around 2-2.8 amps but on RR it reports 1.7 amps so is quick charge enabled on this ROM and if not what are the kernels I can flash to get QC? I've tried flashing Elemental X but it gets me stuck on the HTC splash screen.
I admit I'm kind of a noob when it comes to reporting bugs or issues, and I'm sorry for the length.
I'll add better screenshots of my stats after I collect more data.
I, and a lot of others, have suffered from the same symptoms. I thought I was alone but there is a big thread here https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/random-shut-boot-loops-t3690547. I have got a support ticket (which is probably soon to expire, whoops!) but I've currently got it stuck in a bootloop at HTC (white) screen. Is this what yours did? Can you help me out?

No, my phone simply stays on the black screen with HTC logo in the center and the red text under it. Idk why it does that after flashing the kernel, probably not compatible idk,but what works with me is flashing the ROM again without messing with anything else.
Fixed mine, thanks. Just reflashed a stock rom I found on here. Wish I could help you more, but I think you might have to just return it unfortunately mate

I bought mine from another country and no international warranty so :/
I'd appreciate it if anyone replied to this thread. My phone is really unusable and disabling everything makes it useless and doesn't even save that much battery. My last resort would be to replace the battery but we all know how that would turn out and how it happens .
I tried :
1.Factory resets.
2.Flashed Viperrom,Leedroid,Purefusion 7.1.2,Resurrection Remix.
3.Flashed kernels like Cleanslate,Helix
4.Used battery saving apps like Greenify, Amplify, ForceDoze.
5.Disabled location, wifi, sync, cleared cache , reset app prefences, etc...
6.Started phone in safe mode.
Took all these steps and literally no significant improvement. I can't pinpoint an exact reason as to why I'm getting this drain but I noticed a lot of usage in GSam made by Android OS and in BBS and Wakelock detector PowerManagerService.Wakelocks seems to be on top of usage, and *launch* and *alarm* also have a very high number of wakelocks +1000 or even +10000. I've read on another thread that it might be wifi issue staying awake all the time. If someone has a good app to recommend me to monitor exactly and record whats draining I'll be eternally grateful .
Just a quick update.
I collected some stats. Not much but i saw some errors in there maybe some make some sense of them?
Mainly errors that are about Batterystats service: No controller energy info supplied and Power HAL : Failed to acquire lock whenever i touch the screen
I'll collect more logs and screenshots overnight in a +6hr period.

Hmm. That's weird because I had multiple ROMs installed and tested without any 3rd party apps like facebook and still get awful battery life. I'm back to stock now and will try deleting the fb app. Your stats are pretty good compared to mine.
Thanks.

I found no solution except a battery replacement i can say it was definitely the battery. However, the drain is somewhat higher than it should be on Oreo.

Glad I sold my HTC 10 and bought XA2. Way, way better

Something drains my battery very quickly

Hello
The problem is that something drains my battery really fast
According to AccuBattery it's 40% per hour (380mA) active drain and screen off 10-18%/h
On BBS everything seems ok, deep sleep is ok
It was the same on stock MM v20p
I'm on latest LineageOS 16 + microG and I just replaced my battery (looks like original and date is from june). I replaced it because I had random reboots when battery was at low level and it also was draining like crazy.
Any ideas what can it be?

Yeah. I just use it for a camera monitor. Looks like wiping cache and dalvik in twrp fixed it.
