HTC One m9 grayed out USB Connection - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a new m9, performed 3-4 os updates, and now I cannot connect via USB to any PC. I've read suggestions, different cables, different PC, but nothing works. I booted into are mode, but it still didn't work. I haven't done a hard reset, yet.
The setting More - USB Connection shows the following, with nothing I do allowing me to change it.
Any ideas?

Mine is blanked out too. I think it might only work when it detects mirror link, try using the original cable.
If you are trying to connect as a mass storage device just connect the original cable to phone and pc. The pc should recognise it within 10 seconds.
You can force USB modes from within developer settings.

HTC Desire won't mount as a drive?

Hi guys, I'm obviously new here, but I did have a look and couldn't seem to find this answer anywhere else.
I'm trying to hook my HTC Desire to my PC, but every time I connect it via USB cable it says that device drivers are not found and that Windows cannot rectify the problem.
I've tried installing HTC Sync, but the PC won't even recognise that there's a phone or mass storage device hooked up, so it just stays at "disconnected".
I've selected the phone to appear as a mass storage device when I plug it int the PC (I even select this on the phone's display as I connect it via USB so the phone realises that it's being plugged into a PC).
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
I've struggled with a problem like this before (though, a flash drive, not a phone).
There were two solutions that helped mi on two different occasions.
1) Removing all usb devices from the computer. Shut the computer down, take out the power cord and wait for 20-30 min to settle all capacitors. Then turn it on and plug the devices back in.
2) Put the device in the computer as Mass Storage. Go to device manager and see where is the device. Right click on it (should be unknown or stuff), choose update driver. If it doesn't find anything try updating windows with latest patches and try again.
3) I was solving a non-detectable usb webcam, but removing ALL usb devices from the device manager (Under USB choose device, delete, choose device, delete.) Then click Scan for changes on the top to refresh the devices and install the drivers of the usb root hubs, etc. This would probably fix the problem if the above fails.
---- edit ----
Quick note: if your keyboard/mouse are USB, you could hang without keyboard or mouse until you restart your computer, so keep in mind if you can detect them, delete them last
----/edit -----
If you still can't get it to work, please provide results from another computer (if it works there as mass storage), or better if you have some Linux Live CD you could try there if it gets recognised.
Where you try to plug usb cable into PC - front panel or rear? Because a lot of PCs have an issue with front panel usb. Try rear panel

Thanks to both of you for the swift replies
I actually figured I'd check this short fix before trying the more detailed ones and it seems like it was just a matter of plugging it into the rear usb!
I'm definitely putting this solution to my personal FAQ. Thanks, jankos.
HTC EVO won't mount as a drive
verified that issue was with the front USB port. I plugged my EvO in to a usb hub I had plugged into back usb port and it worked like it was supposed to.

[Q] Completely different connection issue (I think)

Let me start by saying I have read dozens of threads on connection issues from the original galaxy to the s2 and none of them have worked. Here is my problem. When I plug in my phone I get a MTP connected dialogue box but kies will not recognize my phone and odin won't recognize my phone in download mode. My computer's device manager doesn't even show drivers installed or any yellow triangles at all. As a matter of a fact, my computer does NOTHING when I plug in my phone. No installing drivers dialogue box or anything. I have tried manually mounting usb storage mode to no avail. I can not transfer files, root my phone or do anything. I'm running stock EK02. Also, with usb debugging box checked my phone just charges with no pc connection at all. with usb debugging unchecked it will show the mtp connected but my computer doesn't show anything
Here is what I've tried:
Installing and reinstalling kies about a dozen times.
uninstalling and reinstalling samsund drivers
rebooting my phone
tried different computers
I EVEN BOUGHT A NEW COMPUTER (brand new nothing installed)
Then I bought a new usb cord
restarted my computer several times
checked then unchecked usb debugging just in case
Please Help, I'm completely stumped......
I can get on multiple chats for anyone interested (gtalk, facebook, irc, whatever) or take responses here. thank you in advance.

UPDATE: so it was the USB cord the while time. Apparently you should really only use the USB cord that came with the phone, which I lost and had to borrow from someone else.

USB charges but no data

Hi, my phone stopped being able to get a USB data connection. The port is physically intact and does not wiggle. I've tried two different Macs and one PC, different USB-A to -C cables (all verified by Benson Leung). Also toggled USB debug, MTP and PTP modes from Developer Options, rebooted phone and computer. When I plug the phone in, it only goes to Charging mode. Android File Transfer doesn't see it and 'adb devices' comes back empty. There is no notification offering me to select connection type. Did I miss anything or is it time to send it in? Thanks, Tony
What OS are you running on your Windows - checking your Device Manager under Control Panels - are all the Google / N5X drivers installed and working correctly before this ? Try uninstalling, reboot PC and re-install them - and, use different USB port to connect the cable (what kind of connections are you using ??)
Can you run ADB ?
Thanks I'm primarily using a Mac (10.10.5) but the PC was running Vista. It was a borrowed PC so I didn't install the drivers. I don't think it's a driver issue though since nothing shows up in device manager and the phone doesn't offer to switch out of charge-only mode. Also the same Mac worked previously.

Suddenly LG G4 can't be recognised by computer

Hello,
All of a sudden my LG G4, Model 815 can't be recognised by computers anymore. Tried different PC's, with different OS, also have tried different cables. I have been using official cable that I found in original package and everything was working good, but now the phone only shows charging and PC's are showing popups that usb device is not recognised.
I was doing a little reasearch and already tried some simpliest things - reinstalling drivers, tried different cables, different PC's. For example my cable works fine with HTC M9, but doesn't do the thing for me anymore. And vice versa HTC cable works for HTC and does not for my LG. Also I found that you must simply select "charging" in top of your left corner and just select MTP. The problems is, that is not shown in my phone anymore. I'm thinking of trying to do factory reset, but before that maybe some of you have some thoughts? Could it be my phone hardware problem? Before a couple of days ago when everyting was working fine, I did not do anyting unusual, also that phone was never rooted, so I can't believe that it is somehow broken. I have it for nearly three months I think.
And yes, I understand that I can simply transfer my files through, for example AirAndroid of similar apps, but I cannot stand that error sounds playing on my laptop when I connect my phone through the cable to charge it.
Now it is running Android OS 6.0 (marshmallow)
LG G4 MTP Transfer Broken
Hello XDA,
I am having the exact same issue. MTP worked fine and then one day stopped. I believe it happened when I tried to transfer photos from phone to computer via USB and File Explorer. The transfer started, then after about 3 images transferred I received an error, "file transfer the system cannot find the file specified", after that the USB logo disappears, it will disappear from Device Manager, it will not even charge via USB. A phone reboot will fix the USB charging, but the option to switch to MTP is gone. I can't which it in in Developer Options either.
I've also tried all the same things LocaSnai suggested. Such as, different cords (3 of them), windows drivers, LG Air Drive, LG PC Suite, and LG Mobile Support Tool, Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant, of which none will update or repair the phone. I've also restarted Media Storage service (force stop and reboot). My Nexus 7 tablet connects perfect every time using the same 3 cables. The wife's i phone 6 also connects without issue.
I have performed a factory reset and MTP worked UNTIL I restored the LG backup. Then it went back to the same issue. Factory reset was a LG Support idea. They said that if it happened after the factory reset and back up restore, it could be a virus or issue with an app. How would we go about detecting what is wrong?
While working on this message I tired a few new things. I am able to get MTP to show up (not work as it used to) by plugging the phone into power, and then unplugging and plugging into USB. Each time, MTP will recognize (I tried all the software above when MTP shows up, none recognize the phone.) If I unplug USB and plug back into USB, MTP will not show up, only charge will. Have to plug into power then back to USB (I am using two cables, one in the brick and one in USB. Nexus 7 will work as expected with the same two cables). Some times I see the Yellow Triangle over the LG UBS entry, but following this tutorial doesn't work: www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-161810/ Uninstalling the driver and letting it reinstall.
My phone is as original as the day I bought it. ie not rooted or tampered with. Android is up-to-date.
Thank you in advance to the kind folks who offer assistance!

I had the same problem (at the same time I had problems with my sim and my message light was showing a dim green..), tried everything, drivers, cables, at the end a different pc and then I rebooted my phone while It was connected to the 2nd pc, after this, every problem was gone and I good see my phone again in windows. Now after a few reboots with and without the connection to a pc, the phone seems to be working as usual again...
(and My phone is also as original as the day I bought it. ie not rooted or tampered with. Android is up-to-date.)
Doorwerth, thank you for the suggestion. Tried that a few minutes ago and still have an issue.
I'm considering this next: LG G4: How to Boot into Download Mode. I think it's a bit extreme.

Phone not recognized by computer

Hey so i have been having a big problem recently. my htc one m8 32 gb verizon version doesnt get recognized by my computer. ive tried different computers, ports, and cables. i even got a new charging port and installed it but nothing. when i plug my phone into my pc, nothing pops up. the phone only charges but no option to transfer files. htc sync says no phone connected. Also have usb debugging enabled but nothing. running on 6.0 marshmallow and any help would be nice. Thanks!
If you look at your notifications, there will be one you can't clear saying USB Charging this device. Click on the notification and change it to File Transfer.
Couple comments:
1) Try the genuine HTC cable that came with the phone. I've noticed that some 3rd party cables will only charge, and not connect by USB/MTP. I assume the pin layout on those particular cables is not exactly the same as what HTC uses.
I know you probably already tried this (HTC cable) but this may at least narrow down the variables.
2) Assuming a Windows PC, go to device manager, find the phone (hopefully, its listed) then select the option to manually select a driver. Then pick the generic driver for "Android MTP device" (or something like that, forget the exact name). If often have to do this to get my home PC to "see" my M8 by USB. Although my work laptop doesn't have this issue. Your results will vary depending on your exact PC configuration, it can be very confusing and frustrating!

I don't see what the problem is. The PC recognizes the phone. Are you trying to access a function such as fastboot or adb, that is not working? You never say in your post what the problem is.
