I've heard Android Auto usually doesn't work on Huawei phones and unfortunately its one of the few things I do need working on my phone. (Not just the App running, but more that is connects to my car successfully)
I'm in the US and will want to make sure Android Auto is functional before I pull the trigger. It looks like it has good LTE band support for AT&T so that i usually the other concern but I'm sure that is going to work fine.
If any of you US folks can confirm Android Auto is working I would really appreciate it, Thanks!
Would be very interested to know this too.
If no one chimes in, I'll be happy to tell you next week when I receive mine, I'll connect to my Maxima SR and test it.

Does it connect to the car right away when you first plug in the cable?
I have a Xiaomi Mi Max 3 now and the connection to the car sometimes takes like 5 -10 minutes..

Mine is pretty instant.. Both my cars have a little thing that plays in the beginning so it gives the phone about a 5 head start but its usually there by the time the animation finishes.

And your on the Chinese version?, so you had to manually install all the Play Services?
I think i would just end up going with the Global version, so I think that's already all baked in.

There is a ton of misinformation floating around. Chinese version comes with services baked in. All its missing is google play store and certain google apps like gmail, android auto, hangouts, calender, and others. Its like you installed pico gapps for a rom. Just the basics included. But services and calendar sync and such were already baked in.

If the price is the same and such I'd just grab the global. If its not that's up to you then whether you can stand the differences. I got mine the day of release from a lady who I know that came back from Shanghai that day. She grabbed my phone on the way to the airport for me from a Huawei Shop in Shanghai so I paid release day price of $880 w the case. For me that was worth it given the vendors are charging more on top of that. So I "deal" with the china problems. Notification are delayed but I found a setting that lets you tell it to not kill the background work so as long as I don't accidentally close it myself my apps that are important run in the back ground. You "can't change the launcher". You'll have people say BUT YOU CAN JUST USE GESTURES! but that isn't changing the launcher to me. They will be releasing a fix for that but I believe that affects global and china. Biggest thing for me past that is the notification stuff which I believe I've fixed as so far it's responsive.

I've had a few Xiaomi and Huawei phones in the past so I am fairly familiar with the hoops you have to jump through to disable the weird task killer stuff and get notifications working. But yes, I'd certainly want notifications from apps other than the build in ones to be pretty real time. So I think I'm ok with that.
Can't change the launcher? they block installing of any third party launcher? While not a deal breaker, I am certainly accustomed to using Nova launcher. But if It's being fixed I guess that's ok too.
The only other major issue for me I've had on the Mi Max 3 is Video Chat apps. I use Line and Skype and the other person cannot hear me consistently. Audio keeps dropping in volume and breaks up, makes video chatting unusable. I am able to get around it by using WhatsApp (No idea why that works and the others don't)
Have you done any video chatting on the phone by chance?
How are you making out with the LTE bands in the US? It seems like the band list for this phone covers most of AT&T...
Thank you for all the help.

You can install them and run them you simply can't make them default. I've not done video chatting but honestly I don't like to do it but I'll say if the other cameras are anything to look up to your going to be 100% fine. I get full 4g lte its just missing band 30 but my phone seems to sit on band 2 all the time.

So I don't have netflix as I use plex and such. Youtube lets me watch videos at 1080p60fps and I've actually tried doing 4k ones and it does seem to handle them well. Though you need to be closer to an AP since the transfer is a lot of data. I assume though you mean some paid youtube service or like amazon video which appears to stay low quality. The global is level 1 and china is level 3 for the drm security crap.

So yeah, I did it again, I've lost my phone. Please flame me.
The other day I was at concert in Turin (Dropkick Murphys, wohoo), and probably due to the fact that I was right in front of the stage, drunk like hell and dancing like a fool for a couple hours I've lost my phone in the middle of the crazy-jumping-punching crowd. No chance, I couldn't find it anywhere after the show, and looking for it while it was still going would have been like looking for a quick but painful death, it must have been totally destroyed after a few seconds anyway. So when I got home I called my carrier and blocked my number, then (smart as hell) I tried tracking/blocking my phone on windowsphone.com, but that didn't work. Yesterday I went to the police station so that I was able to report the fact in order to be able to get a new sim-card with my old number from my carrier. That's it, now I'm still pissed but I can handle it.
Anyway, here are some (probably pretty lame) questions. Now I got my phone blocked via IMEI and I have my number, so that's quite fine, but what about the data I had on my phone? In particular, what about the apps I bought and stuff like that? In the coming weeks I'm getting paid for a random work I did so I'll be definitely getting another WP7 device, but I still don't know much about this platform so I don't know how this works. On Android when I switched phone I had all my apps, contacts and stuff linked to my Google account and I've never lost a thing, how does that work here exactly?
Sorry for the dumb questions...

If you go to my phone on windowsphone.com - and your account you will have the list of apps you installed. It might look a little painful process as not all apps and settings are going to restored by a single click. Settings - manually. Apps - one by one. Also if you had any unlocks they are gone! So all those side loading apps, won't be there. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! But see the positive - it looks like you had a good night

Thanks for the tips, I feel better already. Too bad for sideloaded apps, but that was something I expected. I only had the basic windowbreak unlock so that's not too bad. The only thing that really bothers me is that I wasn't in the mood for an upgrade at all right now, the phone worked fine and the day I've lost it I had just received my brand new case...I was already saving money for some superphone releasing in Q4. Oh well, I guess this is what you get for being a reckless fool...you're right tho, that was some real fun

Nice thing about LG is that it has a registry editor built in, so it is easy to dev unlock yourself.
Plus you can do any other tweaks, such as real instant resume and fix the blue tooth audio for video issue.
Real instant resume keeps the app in actual memory, so when you go back to it, it does not need to rehydrate. Negative of course, is that you need to make sure to back out of apps that you don't want consuming your memory.

Not to mention the bad impact it has on battery life.
I see a lot of people complaining about the G3 when it comes to the difficulty unlocking the boot loader, and the stutters it has. A lot saying their getting the next android flagship.
Who will actually keep their device and like it for a long period? Cause I feel like I am the only one who loves the G3! I use my nexus 7 for my ROM addiction. Although will be great if the G3 bootloader gets unlocked!

No point me changing it at the moment. All the high end Android phones are pretty much the same.
Locked boot loader doesn't bother me as I don't want a AOSP ROM, want to keep the LG features.
Too many issues that should have been fixed before release like the auxiliary port cutting out while listening to music. I can't keep unplugging and re plugging the jack while driving. The screen also neds to be brighter in direct sun light.

Is this just a car input/output issue? When I wear headphones on bus for an hour never had any cut outs.
I'm extremely happy with mine. For some reason I don't experience the same issues as everyone else. I don't know if I got lucky our what but no lag here, no aux issue, excellent battery with no over heating.
This is a big deal for me, if we never receive root.

OK, so this is pretty exciting information, i just hope this isnt something the carriers can disable in some way.
That being said, I do see one major downfall and that is, IMO, this might cause carriers to push the update slower, or even omit some devices that would normally get updated to make sure their apps are getting used on as many devices as possible.
Cant wait!!!
If true, it's a game changer. But why do I get the feeling carriers will still find a way to install crapware/bloatware that we can't remove.

Damn, I agree! The main reason I wanted Root (well two reasons) was for bloatware removal/freeze, and for backing up apps/app data (especially games!)....Well now with most apps doing the cloud-save thing, if Lollipop really does allow us to remove both carrier AND oem bloatware, I won't be as desperate to Root....although IF Root ever comes to our ATT Note 4, I'll still Root, just won't be as desperately needed. I'd still like to put a custom ROM on my Note4 someday, but I can wait a year or so.....after I'm out of warranty
Lets look at this like the millions upon millions of people who own a smartphone and never, ever figure out even the basics on how to use it. You know the ones, the idiots who buy the iPhone for an outrageous price, and don't even know how to use text messaging. (My mother ... I sent her a picture while on vacation of her grand children, then when I got home she handed me her phone and said "What did you do to my phone, it now has this thing on it" and I had to show her the message!) We see it all the time. People who don't even know that there is a calculator, or how to set up their email, or how to do anything other than Candy Crush on it...
The carriers can do whatever they want to those phones. Those people (and I would bet you are looking at 90% or more of smartphone owners) don't know how to uninstall an app, or don't bother to try. You could make the boatware uninstallable and the vast majority of people would still have it, and never know the difference. Up until recently the only people taking off bloatware were people like us who found a way... Root hasn't been this hard for very long, so their bloatware install numbers won't change much if we can uninstall without root.

Yes, for 2 reasons. Buying an iPhone and having absolutely no idea why she did it. I think people who are passionate about the iPhone an want one, more than anything else are delusional, but at least most of them can articulate why they want it, and many of them use it to its very limited potential. Then there is my mom, who got an iPhone because to her, thats was really the only phone they had at the store. Its falling for the advertising.
And the second reason... she released me into the wild to be a productive member of society... anyone with half a brain would have realized that it would be a key step in the collapse of modern civilization. :silly:

OMG....awesome, thank you so much sir.
What's up with all the iPhone hate? Different strokes for different folks; no reason to bad mouth others for a difference in taste.
Well, seems the way around this is already out there. This will just continue to put these apps on like they currently do, and we still can't remove them. This will only be handy if they have their programs to be downloaded automatically from the play store.....which they probably won't, they'll keep them in the system.

I hope this gives users the ability to remove these apps. Hell if Microsoft can pull it off so should Google. I have disabled over 20 apps on my AT&T Note 4 with the majority being carrier bloatware. Ridiculous.

This is only for phones that come with 5.0 on them. All phones upgraded from KitKat to 5.0 will not have this feature. Also these same updated phones will not have encryption as their default setting either.

I am sorry for posting this here as I didn't see a Q&A section. Now that MS has killed Spotify + Groove Music, what exactly is going on? IN fact, I just want to know if anyone else is, like me, thinking of letting Windows 10 Mobile go? I am frankly tired of them stalling all the good things that are actually freely available on other platforms. I am talking about apps like Flipboard etc.
What's next? Insta? WhatsApp? It has now come to a point where even an expensive flagship is nothing more than a paper-weight.
When you ask that arrogant Nawzil on FB, the smart-ass laughs at you and sinkers at you as if holding some precious information that is going to magically transform your life.
Anyways, I will not make this a hate-thread and want to focus on the way ahead. Is it a kill and abandon mission? Or walk on and see?
Windows 10 Mobile is clearly facing the same fate as Windows RT. No offical statement from MS that it will be abandoned, but no new devices is coming, no new apps and current apps is losing support. And the OS itself has not seen any new features for a long time, still missing night mode and bluetooth has been buggy for years.

haha..I read that too. I don't care much about what Billy uses. I need to know if it is time to jump ship? Or is something really remarkable just round the corner. Which I honestly doubt. But the devs here at XDA were making some really good progress hacking Lumia. But this too has been a silent room for a long time. So are the senior devs here too given up?
My next phone OS definitely will NOT be from Microsoft.
P.S. I've got free LG X charge from Xfinity Mobile (also with free unlimited calls/SMS) and now I understand what I really need (I mean incredible battery life). Unfortunately this X charge has an awful camera (like most of LG budget handsets). So, I hope, someone will release similar phone with good modern camera(s) and same (or more powerful) battery, with similar power savings.

So point it. There is no progress, there is no need for it because no new OS futures or system capabilities. OK, I will pay someone to make 950 bootloader unlocked and change the system font...nothing more. Give a break

For me, the choice is sad but easy: I like Windows phones and dislike Android and iOS. I expect to stay until they no longer provide security updates.
I'm not optimistic about the future of Windows on phones yet the options I know of seem worse.
Your responsibilities are to yourself and it's not as if you are only allowed to switch once. What works best for you at this time?

Thank you for your reply my friend. Something very strange happened yesterday. I shifted to my Nexus 6 after 2 weeks of usage of my Lumia 950XL. And the moment I turned it on, something hit me hard. I missed my Lumia. I dragged my feet through the day with my Android device. And what did I do the moment I reached home? I ripped open my Lumia, put my SIM in and fired it on immediately.
This has never happened before. I used to have cravings for using my Lumia in the past. The simplicity, the speed, the security. All of it. I however never swapped my SIM in a day's time ever before. And now I don't feel like going back to my Nexus at all. Though it isn't laggy in anyway with (Stock 7.1.1). I just felt a kind of aversion to it.
What works for me? Lumia hands down. However, what worries me is the fact that slowly and steadily, every app will go quiet. It has already started. Flipboard is gone and so are a bunch of others with it.
Feels like MS is on some kind of suicidal mission with WP.

We have tried VERY HARD to incent app devs. Paid money.. wrote apps 4 them.. but volume of users is too low for most companies to invest.
https://twitter.com/joebelfiore/status/917071399541391360
Of course we'll continue to support the platform.. bug fixes, security updates, etc. But building new features/hw aren't the focus.

Yea I read. All the news blog channels are declaring the OS dead, RIP and what not. However, as long as the basic apps like WhatsApp and Insta work, we are good. Otherwise it would be seriously crippling. Even then, I don't think I would sell my 950XL.
Same here. Will stay with my Lumia 730 until basic apps are alive. Just feels so bad to move to other platforms after using windows mobile
Even planning to upgrade to an used 1520.
(Have a Nexus 5 for backup)
hold , windows phone 10 still works good and bug fixes on the way .

The UWP apps with mobile support should continue to get updates and work on mobile for a while (2+ years or more) unless a developer pulls the app. The legacy apps will eventually expire off...So unless you are gung-ho crazy over certain media apps (because Groove is dying) or want a Google store experience for some reason, there is no need to move to another hand set platform over apps. However folks should do what works best for them...I personally still find Android somewhat unintuitive so even though the huge amount of apps is there I still only use a handful. I am planning on buying a VZW Elite X3 soon and use that while waiting to see if Microsoft is really aiming for an Andromeda device with Windows Core OS.

Well. I will be honest. I've jumped ship. I've got myself a Xiaomi Mi Note 2. I am honestly very happy. This is just not done. They have a history of abandoning products and I should have known it. My bad Microsoft.
So much bluetooth problems with Windows 10 Mobile, since the it was released. I can't understand that Microsoft never have and never will fix it.

With Bluetooth? If I stream music from Spotify or Groove with Bluetooth and try to use the device at the same time, like open the Maps app, the sound will start to stutter or the sound quality will turn bad. Sometimes it also just stops playing, and I have to wait for the music app to reload before it opens.
Sometimes Bluetooth does not auto connect, sometimes it can't connect at all and I have to restart phone.
Reading the MS feedback forums it seems like the Bluetooth problems affect all devices and all versions of W10M.

Sorry, I have 950XL.
hi my name is abdelrahman and i am new to samsung i happened to carry huwaei and sony mobiles before but i always wished to carry a note phone since its the flagship of android ...sadly it caused me to hate samsung and its ridiculous apps
1) Contacts display options the description doesn't appear like Huawei (my older phone) and this is not a hard option to do just put viewing options in contacts display SO I CAN SEE THE DESCRIPTION OF EACH CONTACT UNDER ITS NAME which is very important to me and i didnt find any application that have this option also instaklling the huwaei contact app on my note10+ failed i dont know why
2) No smart select for the sim card it's only either select one of the sims always to be used or select the sim each time (my huwaei used to know that if i am calling my contact on his number for example x the phone was used to make the phone call with sim 1 for example because i used to do this for some time and the phone picked it up automatically....and so on
3) Connectivity Issues (it's very slow switching between networks)
4) No dedicated 4G mode it's bundled with 2G/3G/4G which is frustrating there must be a seperate option for 4G only like the wcdma only option on my older mate 8 there used to be a 4G button in the notification panel which enforce the use of only 4G network
5) Music media players that comes with the device doesn't fast forward or rewind the song itself and cant be done by linking it to the bluetooth of the car (solved by downloading another player but i was surprised by this problem really i didn't think that this is an option since now i cant be hand free while driving because i have to scroll the music playing bar now just to fast forward or rewind)
6) The need to say hi bixby every time u want to use it is ridiculous there must be something about it
Seems like you need to go back to Huawei....
I ame from iPhone 1st,2nd and 3rd gen, then I switched over to Samsung and never looked back. Each platform has its ups and downs...

my friend for sure u will never look back to iphone since its not on the same level of the competition what i mean is how can a 4 year old phone from a chinease manufacturer have small features but very vital like this and samsung doesnt
Different phones offer different options, pretty much always. A 4 year old phone will have things newer phones got rid of, there are definitely times where they get rid of things we liked and used (like an IR blaster for example). Also, OS updates almost always lose some options from the previous version. I held off on updating my Note 9 to Pie because I liked the available options of Oreo better. Still have my Note 9 on Oreo, still like the drop down quick settings better than my Note 10+ has on Pie. That's just an example.
Unfortunately, there is always some give and take when changing phone brands, OS systems, etc. Overall newer phones are overwhelmingly better, but there are still things that we wish we could have back that get lost over time.
I second that opinion, maybe you should go back to Huawei.
I can't comment on dual SIM, since I don't have it, but for example #1 personally I much more prefer Samsung way, than the way you describe Huawei does it. Much cleaner that way and I really don't need any descriptions on most of my contacts, like really do I need descriptions for Dad, Mom, wife or Elisa my daughter? If I need descriptions I put them in the title like Jimmy -plumber, chinese broadway etc.
While I understand you got used to do it your way, yours maybe not the only or even better way, personally I would either accept it or leave. Can't help with number 3, never had that issue, #4 I think there are settings for this, but don't remember where, because I would never use it, if there is no LTE signal of course I want to have any connection available, much better than nothing and I think there is a setting to always prefer LTE. #5 as you already found out particular player/car BT issue and #6 I never used Bixby can't comment much, but I would imagine there have to be some way to tell the phone you're talking to it, instead of friend? no? Maybe try hello Google instead. BTW that newest Huawei 30 pro looks like an awesome phone, was even thinking of getting it myself, if it only had s-pen.

I understand, once you past free return period, or if you don't even get one, it can be frustrating to switch to new phone and find out it works different, but at least for contacts the workaround I gave you should be easy enough? Also, if you really need phone set to LTE only I'll try to dig out the instructions?
Regarding Huawei m-pen, it's good to know, but if the pen is not stored inside the phone, I'll keep on loosing it, I tried that before, unless there is a case with build-in pen storage, because that could work.
You should change back to Huawei. Then you might find something useful in Samsung but not in Huawei.
I don't want the description below the contact, then will make the contact list extra long to scroll. I usually put the name and the company name just behind the name. If I really want the description like emails, I just click the name to see it.
I don't use 2 sim cards. But I think you still can choose which sim card to call. Just extra steps.
There is no 4G alone option. It is not a bad thing. I tried to set it 3G only, but when I traveled, where the place has bad 3G service, then no one can call or msg me but I totally forgot I did that. So no 4G only might be a good thing for places with inconsistent 4G coverage.
To fast forward a song, just drag the progress bar. If you want a fast speed, it is in the setting.
Just long press the power/Bixby button can bring up the Bixby voice. So you doesn't need to say Hi Bixby. Surprisingly you are using Bixby when the rest of us not.

It does work with their spen but it's not built in
For Contacts and Dual Sim issue, there are several Apps that can do the function you require like Truecaller and for Music as well, you can try 3rd party Apps
