Turn on local battery policy? "excessive battery consumption in this region" - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Turn on local battery policy? "excessive battery consumption in this region"
I receive this message when I put a Chinese SIM into my USA phone. Google doesn't show any hits. Has anyone ever come across it or have an idea as to what it means? Thanks in advance.
Turn on local battery policy?
Your SIM card has been changed. The current App power monitor settings may cause excessive battery consumption in this region.
Turn on local battery polocy to put all of your apps to sleep and extend your battery life.

Samsung Local Battery Policy
This happens to my Samsung dual sim phone (Galaxy S7 and S9) a lot whenever I travel abroad and I mix the Chinese Sim with a non-Chinese Sim card. The phone will overheat easily if I don't turn on the local battery policy, but the real trick is to force this message to come up when the local battery has been turned OFF.

Was just hit with this. I turned the "local battery policy" on and now all my apps are put to sleep. Any idea how to manually turn this off?
Google is completely empty about this.

I get this too whenever i put in my China sim card. I'm guessing it's because google services are blocked in China and in order to save battery, those apps would be put to sleep so as to avoid wasting battery on connecting to google's servers.

That's a bad idea because a lot of tourists and business travellers would use VPN anyway, thus requiring the Google services. In any event if Google services are blocked, they won't be used, so no battery drain. If you refer to the first post with the screenshot, the explanation was to prevent "battery drain" by certain apps in the region. That has nothing to do with unused Google services, unless its some kind of poor coding by Google's developers.

Did anyone get a solution to this yet? I’m experiencing the same problem with my S8

Now my SIM card doesn’t work on the phone anymore.

Hey guys I was looking for this awhile and finally stumbled across it. If you go into battery, and then settings, there is an option to put unused apps to sleep. You should find the local battery policy setting there.

[Q] Smart Protect

Is there a "Smart Protect" or similar available for the GalaxyS?. I do have the sim swap security enabled but would like to track the phone if it's lost or stolen. I have SP on my Omnia and it's been brilliant.
i use 'lookout mobile security' there is a free version and a paid version (or 30day free trial) and i think its awesome..... i can quickly go to the website mylookout.com if my phone is lost or stolen. i can switch gps on,,, track it down ,,, do a complete wipe of the phone,,, block the phone and loads more.. all from my pc..
and it doesnt drain my battery either (i keep mine active 24/7) cause i never know when im gunna get jumped by a load of chavs when im walking my doggie lol
Thanks ADazzle I installed lookout and it works well but...............
GPS needs to be turned on all the time (cell locate too inaccurate). GPS uses google maps so consumes data all day ? GPS consumes battery all day? or am I missing something
well i never have gps activated on my phone. but when i activated it thru mylookout.com it turned gps on and tracked it down quite well... there are a few 'gps fixes' out there that could improve the accuracy.... just put it in the search bar...
ive never looked this up as im happy with my gps accuracy
OK, thanks, maybe I was confusing GPS enabled with turned on.........you are correct......from Lookout FAQ
"Yes! Lookout makes use of the Android phone’s GPS receiver as efficiently as possible. When a locate is requested for an Android device, Lookout can remotely turn on the GPS while the locate is running and then turn it back off again (locates can run for a few minutes to get the best location results). This helps to conserve your phone’s battery life. Lookout only uses the GPS to get your location when you explicitly request it.
It should also be noted that if your GPS is enabled, that only means apps have the ability to use it. It does not mean it is being used continuously or that your location is constantly being tracked"
Where in the world are you? For some countries the built in security does just this plus remote lock/wipe.
Tehpriest, I'm in South Africa. I think I misunderstood 'Remote Tracker' as being activated only by a sim swap. Probably because of the way the description is written. Having read carefully once again as a result of your post, it appears it's a full function tracker.
I'll follow up and test it. 'Lookout' is working well and has back-up and a virus scanner too.
Tried it and web responds......."for legal reasons this service is not in service in some countries"
Checked with service provider and they confirm RT not enabled in RSA
I use Prey, it works by sim swap or activation text, never had reason to use it yet, but you can use it for multiple devices so have it on my iMac and my kids phone as well.

[Q] Difference Between VZW Location Services and Google Location Services

What is the difference between VZW Location Services and Google Location Services?
Thanks,
Jeff
Not to be a smart ass but ones from VZW and ones from Google. Lol, I'm pretty sure thats the only difference.

That was fairly obvious!
Been reading up on it myself and google brought me here. Thought I may learn something new. So Far I have learned:
VZW Location Services provides location data to phone/apps via Cell Towers (Useful if indoors), GPS location data when a clear line of sight to sky is available (Will use more battery power as it is a seperate chip/component) and Google Location services uses a Wifi Network "Guesstimate" (the least accurate of all three). What it comes down to is accuracy and battery life/usage.
Go with vzw services if you want accuracy and little battery usage, however if you keep wifi on allot (or have eg Juice Defender Installed) use Google. Most of time I use Google. I am however on the paranoid side as it is. I read where a Verizon Tech stated that you can be located within 2-10seconds with that enabled. However if I were up to no good I would simply remove battery, just bothers me my phone company knows where I am. They sell that data possibly more, yet do I get a discount for that?
I only use GPS when driving.
I think you've got it a bit mixed up. There's a few ways our phones can get location information.
Think of it this way.
--- satellite GPS = Your phone connects with satellites to determine the location. It can pinpoint your location within feet if it has a good enough lock. You can still get locks indoors, and yes it does use a considerable about of battery if you use it continually. If it only turns on for about a minute just to get a single lock on your location, it really has no impact on battery. If you run it for 20-30mins+ is when you start to notice. You have the option to completely turn this off if you want. Really it's best to keep it on, because your phone will not actually turn it on and use it unless an app tells it to (like navigation).
--- WIFI GPS = Your phone can determine your location by using the WiFi the same way you can go to http://www.geoiptool.com/ on your desktop and it can get a generic idea of where you're at (usually not more specific than the city you're in). Google likes to use this because it needs some sort of location information so it can best provide searches and advertisements. This is the least accurate. This also has an option to be turned off.
--- assisted GPS or aGPS = your phone uses the network you're on (in this case, Verizon) and it can give a rough estimate by triangulating your position through nearby cell towers.
It's called assisted GPS because it actually helps the 'satellite GPS' by letting the satellites know the general area of where you're at, so it can get a lock quicker and with less battery.
Assisted GPS does not require any additional battery or wait time because your phone is already connecting with those towers just by having a signal (the more towers in your area, the smaller area it can guess you're at)
When you first start up a GPS application (or if you disable the 'satellite GPS'), you'll see a circle around a very wide area. This is what the radio tower/VZW/assisted GPS is. Then after a minute or so, it'll lock on, this is the 'satellite GPS'.
Also there is a separate chip in all phones that determines your location if you dial 911. You can not turn it off, and I'd imagine that the government could use it with reason. If this is in use there should be an icon that pops up, you've probably never seen it.
If you're worried about your location, the only thing you can do is turn off your phone or remove your battery if you're really paranoid.
All this info is to the best of my understanding.
Hope this clears it up.

I just joined to say thanks for this. I've been searching forums for this, and could only find half the info or smart @$$ responses on other sites. I've been searching for possible bugs and battery drains ever since the ics update and the media app smoked razr maxx battery and burned my phone to the point where the back turned brown.

[Q] Phone Incorrectly Reads Battery Level

Hey all, I'm in need if some advice/help. My Galaxy S3 seems to be incorrectly gauging how much battery life it has.. For a better explanation, here's a familiar scenario: phone is 100% and will slowly keep creeping down by a percent with little to no use. In a few hours it "dies." If I leave it for a couple of minutes or do something like take the battery out however, it'll have a reading of 36%. I can do this several times in a row! Another instance is say it was at 100% and drops down to 80% in an hour or so. If I leave it in standby the battery level will actually start creeping back up after a couple of minutes.
I have tried these steps and suggestions to combat this problem:
flash to CyanogenMod
buy an extended battery
calibrate the battery with apps
wipe battery stats
I've run out of ideas short of bringing the phone in to T-Mobile and have it replaced. Google searching has turned up pretty fruitless so I'm asking here before I make anymore moves! Thanks for all the anticipated help.
Please do a factory reset and leave just the Rom and Gapps. Nothing else on there for a some time to experiment.
Please install BetterBatteryStats from the Play Store. Make sure to enable Root Features from under settings >Advanced Settings > Enable Root Features checkbox.
Next reboot the phone and then leave it alone for some time. Preferably overnight. In the morning, hit the Share button in upper right corner of the app. Choose text as the output format. It will save a text log in /SDCARD folder. Attach that here.
ok I will try this
Currently letting my phone run the tests. Just out of curiosity I have noticed something funny already. With 55m 49s on battery, it says Wi-Fi has been running the whole time (100% ratio), and I definitely have Wi-Fi turned off.

There are variety of reasons. Please Turn off Google Location Reporting.
Please post a log as I described before.
Here's the log from BBS
Are you sure you turned off Google Location Reporting ? If not then do so first. If you had done so, please turn off location service all together.
Under Settings >Wireless>Advanced, do you have "Keep Wifi on during sleep" set to never ? Also uncheck Scanning always available. Lastly what's the deal with your calendar ? Do you have so many events on there ?

Location services are disabled all together. I did however have to set "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to never. And no I don't have any events... Could that be the problem lol?
You most certainly have some Location Service going on. Please check again. You will need to wipe data for Calendar and then sync it just the one time with Google Account.

I checked again, all disabled. I also just wiped the data and cache for the Calendar and Calendar Storage.
In that case, reboot and post an IDLE log for 4 to 5 hours.
Idle = Phone is on but not being used at all.
Four hours idle. Sorry for getting back so late... School is very busy!
Facebook and Google+ are really chewing your battery. Please remove both apps. Use their mobile websites instead. I know its not as good but your battery will thank you.
Please reboot after removing both and then provide another Idle Log. There are additional issues.
Here's another 5hr log. Thanks for sticking this out with me!

This looks pretty good. Please get the app called "Kill Mediaserver" and use it as the name says. If possible, copy everything from the external sd card onto a pc, format that card to FAT32, then copy everything back to the card.
You do realize, you have Google Now. Please understand it will have a hit on battery. So long you are aware of this, keep it. Otherwise freeze it. Earlier in this thread, @Karpfenhai has posted a mod for Google Play service. Use it please.
If he posted it, his post may have been deleted as I do not see it. If possible, can you re-link that here?

It may or may not. I do not recommend Greenify as the principle it operates on is flawed in my opinion.

Google Play Services, Location active - battery eater LG G3

Hi,
I've disabled my Location and Google Play Services battery consumption reduced.
I've noticed that every time when I unlocked the phone, the system tries to access GPS - I can see for 1 second the the location symbol appears in the notification toolbar.
Previously I owned a G2 and didn't have the issue, with G2 you unlock of the phone and G2 doesn't try to start GPS, the location symbol doesn't appear in the notification toolbar! simple and battery efficient. Not the case with G3. Don't know what stupidity they did or what they've modified.
I don't know if is a Lollipop issue or a bug in LG G3 software.
It is stupid and drains battery fast.
I want to keep the Location active because of geotagging photo information or for using googlemasps. But it is annoying to start manually the location when using this.
I hope there is a workaround to this issue.
Tks
I'm using
5.0
SW
V20f-226-01
only to my phone happens this? or is a global issue?
did anyone experience this issue or I'm the only one?
did someone see this until now?

Not only that you must be root to use the application, but it is not ok in my opinion to have this functionality on the phone.
I get 2-3 days of full battery with location turned off!
With location turned on only 1 maybe 2 days!!! big difference !!!
Still my question remains...
Is this a bug in LG software or it happens only on my phone? and what's the workaround for this?
If you dont have root, have in the world you have figured that Google Play Services is trying to access GPS for one second?

With Location ON it can be seen in the Settings->General->Battery->Battery Usage , that GooglePlayServices eats up to 20% battery when location is on.(daily usage) and as I've said previously the GPS is accessed every time you unlock the phone and go to home screen. You can see it in the notification toolbar the symbol of the GPS is ON for 1 second. I think that is the reason why it eats up so much battery.
When Location is OFF the Goolge Play Services (that includes also the Location Manager) eats up only 4% battery consumption and you don't see the GPS active each time you unlock the phone
From this I figured it out that GooglePlayServices has a bug or the sofware phone has a bug.
Is this happen to others?
how location is working on your side?

youp, tks , that solved the problem! I did a previous factory reset but after the new update I have to do it again.
This is not ok. Every time you get an update you must do a factory reset... not so ok.
My battery lasts now about 3 days. Google Play Services eats about only 2-3% of battery.
This is awesome!

I've disabled
LoctionWearableListnerService and

and bug is fixed!
but after some time ... even with this services disabled ... the problem reappears.
It is like some other service is reEnable them again even though in DisableService they are off(red).
Does anyone know what's the service name that should be killed?
It's not Play Services, it's some app that uses its API. For me it was LG Weather app.
I fixed it by setting my location manually in its settings.
is not the weather widget

is this a service or the widget weather?
I've removed the widget from the screen. The same!
Even placed the location manually in the settings of the widget.
Is there other place that I should be looking?
After all it shouldn't be the widget weather app. It refreshes the location in 3h interval.
I've tried also with the ROM fresh installed, with no new app installed still the same. GPS pups up!
Really stupid!
Has anyone fixed this by now ?or at least identified the cause?
Problem SOLVED
Come on guys!
Just go And turn SmartLock (Google) OFF in trust agents in security settings
As easy as pie!
Playing around with DisableService, I've stopped other services that were in use by GooglePlay.
Android system pointed out that GooglePlay has an error and needs to be updated from PlayStore.
I've updated GooglePlay from PlayStore and I don't have this issue anymore!!!
I leave my location ON all the time, I don't have battery drain anymore!!!
I think is a bug in GooglePlay version application that the ROM is coming with.
As soon as you get(update) GooglePlay form playstore, the phone behaves normally.
This way worked for me.
@Mo3ein - I had already SmartLock OFF. It's not from SmartLock

Question GPS constantly active / in use according to battery historian - ImsService?

Hi guys,
since two days I noticed that my battery is draining a lot quicker.
I pushed two full days to battery historian and noticed that in each day, GPS was constantly on and in use.
When checking the "last app that accessed location" then it was always "ImsService" that used it "0 mins ago" or "1 mins ago".
Day 1:
Total GPS use: 12h 20min
GPS use by app: ANDROID_SYSTEM 12h 20min
Day 2:
Total GPS use: 8h 7min
GPS use by app: ANDROID_SYSTEM 8h 7min
The only thing I changed in these last few days was deleting an e-sim and adding a new e-sim.
Any suggestions on what to do?
I have BBS installed but it can't seem to see what is causing the GPS drain with BBS.
Thanks!
Another weird thing I noticed:
Amaze & Simple Gallery need permission to access my "SD card" or files.
I have to set the switch to "allow" frequently. Like the permission gets lost every few hours/days.
Full wipe and start from the start? :S
Titanium Backup Pro?
As an update:
Did a factory reset and restored all apps / settings but with only 1 SIM.
For now the phone feels smoother and battery is A LOT better.
I monitored this for 2 days now.
Will activate my 2nd SIM today and see what is changing.
I might also remove Adaway + AFWall.
I believe I might have "crippled" my system too much previously.
I am thinking about going with adguard (which basically does what adaway + afwall does but with better monitoring / logging to find and fix issues) or nextDNS.

Thanks but there might be more to it.
Today I added my 2nd SIM (e-SIM) and noticed that my battery drain has become huge again.
20-30% lost during the night.
So it seems to be related to the second sim.
Things that show up in BBS as main cause:
s5100_wake_lock
Sensor: Dynamic Sensor Manager(1), wakeup=true, Time: 7 h 25 m 4 s
RILJ_ACK_WL
No idea what that is and how to fix it though.
