Samsung S9 running slow - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

hello guys,
I just wanna know if im the only one who is experiencing slow S9 by the passage of time. If Samsung is doing it like Apple had done with its customer then its a bad news. I dont have much apps other than wahtsapp and fb.
is there any work around other than format cache, or factor reset?

I haven't experienced any slowdown. I wouldn't think they would intentionally slow down the S9 yet since it's still new. Have you added any new apps that could cause it?

Not getting any slowdown, but I do get lower battery life over time, factory resets usually fix that but that's hardly a fun thing to do with your phone after every update (which likely is the cause)

clearing the cache partition might help, here's how:
1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Samsung logo displays, release the power key.
4. An 'Installing system update' message will show for 30 - 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6. Press Power key to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
i did this today and my device feels a lot smoother, even though my performance was already superb

Not defending them but a ruling by an Italian regulatory group is hardly 100% proof. It was on older phones also.

I am not getting any slowdowns, but battery life isn't good as it's supposed to be.

I didn't do it. In fact, I've never done it on any device. And mine is running beautifully. Then again if I've never done it I suppose I can't compare.
But, talk about inconvenient! Every time there's an update you're gonna wipe your tablet and all of your data? Then sit there and reapply all your settings, configurations, files and apps? Imagine having to reformat you PC every time there was a Windows update...
I think if people see an improvement after doing so, it isn't because this tactic does anything special. But because you've wiped your system and started fresh again, of course you'll see an improvement. Update or no update.
I say if you're experiencing issues, it's worth doing to possibly remedy the problem(s).

Yes!! After a reset, its like day and night! reset is the key along with killing some of the Samsung apps, s voice home button, and turning off all 3 animations from developer options.

Updates do not require factory resets. The OP was just mentioning that he reset after the update and his system runs great.
The truth is that all your hard work setting up your device is gone and you must do it all over again.

Exactly my point. The system runs great not because the update did anything to slow it down, but because he did a system restore. The update had no effect, good or bad.

Well now the update can improve performance in itself, but not always as some are just security updates.

I meant the sole fact that you're updating won't effect the performance. This entire thread has been about doing a factory reset because of an update, as if an update regardless of what it's for will someone hurt your performance.

Touchwiz and battery problems

Hi,
I bought Tab S 8.4 recently (3 weeks ago).
I face two issues and I appreciate your help..
1- Toucwiz: it happens frequently after I restart my tablet to find the error message (Unfortunately, Touchwiz stopped working). When I press OK, the screen blanks and starts working fine. I tried resetting the tablet to factory settings, clearing cache, clearing Touchwiz application setting.
The problem goes for some time and comes back. it doesn't really impact the tablet function but it is a kind of irritating.
2- Battery drains: I used to have ipad mini, the battery life was about 5 to 6 days.
For the Tab S, it is maximum three days. taking into consideration that I am using the tablet for emails, browsing, and rarely lite games.
Please, let me know if you face these problems and if you know the fix.
Thanks,

1. Re-flash your device firmware with Odin. Many guides about on its use. Check sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com
2. The browsing time has been shown to be less than SOME other tablets but media play exceeding most others (including mini) of the same form factor. Don't know what users expect for such a thin device device with a very high resolution. There are far more pixels to push
There is also power saving mode and ultra power saving mode. You could also use auto brightness with lower setting.
As your coming from an Apple device here are some info on best battery saving practices for Android :
7 Quick Tips To Extend Battery Life on Android 4.4 Kitkat
http://www.idroidspace.com/best-tips-to-extend-battery-life-on-android-4-4-kitkat-devices/
Specifically for Tab S:
- (I don't use this one as to me it reduces the value of my tablet) : "Select adaptive display off and use basic color better battery life but sacrifice some color". This suggestion came at the beginning of August before at least one update which may have negated it's value.
- Settings:
- Increase the time between services being synced (GMail, Calender... Etc)
- Turn off syncing for any service you don't use
- Turn off Bluetooth if your not using it
- Turn off WiFi scanning once you have added your WiFi access point(s)
- uncheck WiFi remaining alive when tablet is asleep (sorry forgot the specific setting name)
- Anything you can tolerate that reduces screen brightness.
- Turn off auto brightness and control it manually
- Reduce the auto brightness value assuming you still want auto brightness
If that is still not enough then you can install a battery app which tracks "wakelocks" (apps that keep your app awake even when it is not being used). After analyzing that info you can uninstall the worst offenders. Sometimes the worst ones are part of the system or an essential app so you must put up with the drain. See this XDA post for a good battery analysing app which is free for XDA members.

Likely the 1st link to the 7 tips article will give your the best bang for the buck.
Good luck

The weird thing is that the Touchwiz error appears only at the restart. Then the tablet continues working fine.
it is less probable to happen when I restart the tablet after it is shut down, and more probable to happen when I restart it by command.
It is not stopping me from using the tablet, but it is some how irritating.

Not a silly question.
A lot will be cleared up if you go ahead. You're data should be OK, but always recommend to save it off device.

I found the trigger ... Or I think I did
I cleared the Touchwiz data and cache .. so it went to the default configuration. I then started adding my widgets and shortcuts one by one.
I figured out that the Touchwiz fault happens when I add a short cut of an application installed on the microSD card.
I moved all the applications from the microSD to the internal memory and now Touchwiz works fine.
Now going to the microSD. The microSD I have is Transcend cat 10. It should be quite fast, and it is actually fast (R/W). However, I recall some posts regarding Transcend in-compatibility with new Samsung devices.
I have Galaxy S5 as well... same Transcend type and works fine.... BUT ... There is a Samsung application called User's digest for Samsung (or you can find it in the name of Vitamin's for Samsung).. It has a feature to place some tests to the handset. Both Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Tab S show the microSD card test result as "Disconnected"! ... I didn't care that much on the S5 as it didn't cause any problem, but now I started to care after what happened with the Tab S.
I ordered Samsung 32GB cat 10 microSD... should arrive in a week... will let you know about my experience.
It's confirmed now the touchwiz problem while starting the tablet is triggered by microsd.
The transcend I was using was fake. I am using an original one now and I can sense the enhancement in the read speed, as well as no touchwiz problem anymore.
Thanks,
How do I reboot in safe mode in galaxy tab s t705?

[Q] Extreme power saving mode missimg after 4.4.4?

Hello, im a proud owner of a tmob009 unlocked htc m8 mobile device and after updating to 4.4.4 yesterday night i noticed that the extreme power saving mode was missing in the battery settingss.. Is that normal? Does someone else experience this issue or its an isolated case..?
Below i have some screens...also excuse me for the greek language
Thanks in advance
I think you're alone in this...
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm afraid I would have to agree with rramey23, extreme power saving mode is present on mine and I'm running 4.4.4. I'd try a full factory reset to see if you get the functionality back.
Also here extreme saving power just disappeared after the installation. I have already done a full factory reset but nothing. What should I do ?
Yeah same here.. factory reset didnt work, but odly enough i found out that the option for extreme power saving is at the tabs.. You can see the icon at the bottom of the screenshot
Also another problem that i encountered after the 4.4.4 update is that my front camera doesnt work at all with videocalls on skype.. it makes the app freeze and crash
Tapping that tab or the three points doesn't work, the phone just remains the same I have tried two factory resets but nothing

Okay this is getting funny..! i had the tab but i never pressed it until now. indeed it does nothing!! What's going on! I hope it's a faulty OTA... I'll be waiting for a hotfix or something,,
Hi,
I have the same problem. I found a german Telekom forum where other users are asking the same question. One Telekom administrator answered this (translated with Google translator):
Hi there. It looks like this. The error could be quickly traced. Meanwhile, HTC has already been informed to provide a new update available. This is done with a high priority. It is, again: Wait in patience and practice. Troubleshooting we can currently say nothing. We have sent to HTC the requirements, there is a new update package put together, then it must be tested again and then carried the new rollout. In other words, an appointment we can not name. But we are aware of the urgency.

You can freeze apps from your Application Settings :3 From what I understand though, if you are truly experiencing some bad lag, the phone might be defective; in which case, I would get a replacement as soon as possible d: I have not experienced any significant lag other than the occasional recent app's button delay, but even that is hardly noticeable. Besides, if I spent about $800 on a device, I would hope that it is not laggy, right? XD Unacceptable!

Would a video of it lagging help me get advice on the problem?
Verizon would send me a certified like new phone. Id prefer not to do that.
I was on an s5 that wasnt getting me good signal for data and the usb cover broke, so i upgraded to the note 4 as soon as it was released, i should of waited for the dev edition.

Unfortunately, I am probably just as clueless > 3<; I'm essentially just repeating what other people said on XDA
Regarding the certified/refurbished phone replacement though, I would strongly consider it after reading jonahtriangle comment in this thread - especially if your phone is having noticeable lag. Besides, if your phone is defective and you have to fix it... isn't your phone inevitably going to become a refurb? :silly:
If you have not tried already, you could also disable apps and change some [developer] settings to make your note 4 experience smoother. This youtube video was pretty helpful - mostly because I didn't know developer settings existed :silly:

I just realized that I didn't ask this: Has your phone been laggy since purchase? Or did the laggyness happen suddenly - maybe after installing app(s)?
Additionally, some people have claimed that touchwiz is laggy. Although I did not experience any lag personally with touchwiz, I did find that I prefer Nova Launcher. If you have not tried it, I highly recommend it.

If you have disabled the apps that you don't use or want and have tried a cache cleaner like 1 Tap Cleaner or one of the other pretty good cache cleaners in the Play Store and you're still getting lag then look to see what widgets you have running and how often they are updating. If you have apps that you've downloaded but never use, get rid of them, they could be running in the background eating up resources. If all else fails, often a Factory Reset will fix a lagging phone. I know it is a PITA because you have to set the phone up again and download apps, but for a lag problem, it often works.

I've actually read that cache cleaners and other "optimizers" are unnecessary for phones like ours I do not use them personally and do not experience any noticeable lag so I would recommend caution when installing apps like that.

Hey, glad you're not experiencing lag, but my post was not directed to you. The apps I reference are not "optimizers". Yes, there are "optimizers" out there that create more problems than they fix. But, a good cache cleaner can make a positive difference if you are running apps that constantly store cache. Over time that cache mounts up and eats a look of memory that is not available for the system to immediately use. This doesn't create a problem (storing cache) if you turn your phone off every day, but many users don't do that. Turning your phone off and back on will clear most of the cache stores. If you don't clear the cache stores your phone will eventually lag or slow down. That is when a good cache cleaner is handy to have. Most manufactures somewhere in their literature recommends turning your phone off and back on every day or so. There is a good reason for that. PITA stands for Pain in the Ass.

One other recommendation before you do a Factory Reset of return your phone. Power your phone off and boot into Safe Mode (hold power and volume down, when the phone turns on release the power button but continue to hold down the volume down. Your phone will boot as normal but without loading any of your downloaded apps). Run the phone in Safe Mode and see if you still have lag. If the lag is no longer there then it is probably a problem with one or more of your downloaded apps/widgets

agreed. my retail note 4 has ZERO lag. my developer edition has ZERO lag. defective device or you have it completely full with too much running which i think would take a lot of apps etc because i am a heavy user and its still runs like butter
I should have time tuesday to transfer everything to my nexus 6, then im trying a reformat to see if the note 4 works any better.
If it works, ill keep it as a tablet for the note features.
If not i'll just stick with the nexus 6, im thinking stock would be a better experience (ive pretty much been a samsung guy)

Lots of different small issues

Hi all
I have been using this phone for a month, and I have experienced a lot of different small issues, I hope someone may have solution to them.
Phone:
Mi A2 Lite, rooted (Magisk) Android one pie, January update. Has a screen protector.
Apps:
Here are some apps that I think may cause the issue that I mention below, these apps are Nova and datally. Really can't think of a third one, I don't use any cleaning app or battery performance app.
Issue:
1. Typing experience is horrible. Using stock google input, the keyboard is not very sensitive and accurate. The letter just can't be recognized even though I am sure I have pressed the key and pressed the right key. So my typing is really slow, the key doesn't display immediately (it does seem to have a delay), and for some reason I always type wrong and missing some letters, so gotta use backspace a lot.
2. It always wakes up randomly in my pocket, so I may take the phone out with torch on and airplane mode on without my awareness.
3. When I am on a call, I can accidentally press some random on screen keys.
4. The background apps AWALYS get killed, even though I have turned the battery optimization off globally, and the individual apps that I never want to be killed.
5. Messaging service apps have huge delay when delivering the notification. It may only show when I open the app. Used PNF app but couldn't fix the problem.
Does anyone have the same issue and know the fix?
I hope it is only the software problem (Pie system) and maybe I can fix it by flashing a better rom, but I don't seem to find a stable official custom ROM for Mi A2 Lite (even lineage OS is unofficial)
Many thanks
