Since the Japanese version provides Felica function, I wonder if official bootloader unlocking is available.
I want to confirm it before purchase.
Thanks.
It will start shipping on the 1st of November, even from Google store.

Do you plan to unlock your phone?
I want to know if Felica (SUICA / Osaifu Keitai) still work after unlock.
I am still wondering to root or not. I read that mobile Suica can be used with unlocked BL, but I saw this kind of information from only one source...

FYI, I found this via 2ch, Unlock + magisk17.4-411ea56a can be OK for Felica (Edy, Suica, nanaco, QUICPay).

I have friends in Japan, so I can ask them for help in buying things.
And I use forwarding services to ship the phone to Hong Kong.
How long are you going to stay?
You may try ordering and ship to the hotel you are staying in.
The shipment service in Japan is highly reliable.

Comparing to the discounted US version, JP version Pixel 3 XL 64GB is 40000 JPY more expensive...
I think Felica function does not worth 40000 JPY...

Hello there. I was wondering if you could point me to the user who rooted or try to root the Japanese carrier version. I'm in Japan and I just got me a 3XL with SB and it's a hell trying to bypass the OEM unlocking due to the restrictions from SB . Thanks in advance

Buy it directly from Google is the best way to be sure. Best Buy, Verizon, and most all the other retailers only sell the verizon variant, which means..it's locked down. Swappa isn't bad either for finding an unlockable version :good:
If you have the box, look at the barcodes.
If you see:
SIM ID= LOCKED
ESIM ID = Google version

Get the IMEI number from the seller and run it through this: http://www.imeipro.info/check_lg.html If the seller cannot or will not provide the IMEI in advance to check beforehand, then do not buy it.

If either Verizon or Google, it will be very clear. What does yours say under BUYER CODE and BUYER NAME ? Mine are USX & GOOGLE_OPEN_64G.
if it has VZW in the buyer name, its locked bootloader.

I want to order Pixel 2 XL from Ebay or Amazon, but I do not know how to choose the version that can be root. Read that Pixel 2 XL verizon cannot be root. Maybe there is a more complete and accurate list of models of this device that are subject to root and unlock bootloader?

And watch when buying it other than directly from Google. The ads on Amazon or Best Buy will say "unlocked". They mean carrier unlocked, not bootloader unlocked. It has to come from Google to be bootloader unlocked, and you need that to root it.

If you are buying new, it has to come from the Google store. If used that is going to be hard. The best way would be to have the seller send you a screenshot of the allow OEM unlocking. Its in developer options and will be blue like mine like below. There are resellers on swappa that will know what you are talking about. Private sellers may not know.

An easier method, though it assumes the seller has the box, is to ask if there is a SIM ID barcode on the box. Only Verizon P2XL boxes will have one, and it will be present in addition to the ESIM ID barcode.
If a SIM ID is present do not buy.

It's still a Verizon phone and blocked for root. The sim card has nothing to do with it, its the IEMI that matters. Mine was purchased from Google and unocked just fine with a Verizon sim in it.

Not possible. Your Verizon variant phone cannot be "bootloader unlocked" and rooted, however you can use it on other networks because it is "carrier SIM unlocked". If you were interested in a bootloader unlocked phone you should have purchased an unlocked Google variant.
I see it more like google.are idiots and dont explain verry well what they sell... Why would anyone actually buy a phone that is OEM locked purposely?

Because the Verizon model was cheaper, so if root was not important people would buy it. Or they get it for free on a Verizon plan.

Nothing is free. Certainly not a device where you pay ~30 / month over 2 years. Which means they are not cheaper by any means. However, you can roll it into you carrier plan without the extra credit check or 3rd party financing.

I don't know about you, but when I take up a new hobby, I do research before I run out and buy expensive equipment. Every hobby has it's basics and common knowledge. Verizon locked bootloaders is common knowledge and it doesn't take a lot of work to discover that. So, if someone is negligent in doing their research, how is that anyone's fault but their own? As far as Verizon employees go, the people on the phone or in the stores may not know about locked bootloaders, just like a car salesman may not know what kind of turbo a car has or how much boost, but the people in R & D sure do.

Provided that the phone was paid for by the original owner and is not tied to an existing contract you should be able to get that code from at&t. Problem is that a lot of those online deals (e-bay) were never paid off and have been blacklisted
Thank you for the reply.
I checked online and the IMEI hasn't been reported lost, stolen, or (according to the IMEI report that I paid $3.00 usd for) doesn't have late fees or any other contract problems.

I tried the Att unlock service, and after 5 days they replied :
Current status - Denied
Your unlock request was denied because the device is no longer supported by the manufacturer and we can't obtain an unlock code.
At this point I'm totally clueless.

Yes, an experienced professional 3rd party business can do it. It's extremely expensive though - around $200 US
As of today I'm carrier unlocked just by asking a t force member that I'll be in Europe and her for the next yr or so, I didn't expect her to whitelist so easily especially since I just upgraded to the s22 plus 2 months ago with 3 lines but she gave me no hassle about it I got lucky I guess and I do know how to speak to people and be honest. I went to support and chatted with her that's it 20 mins went by and permanently unlocked T-mobile carrier
