Cannot Send or Receive Pictures Via Text - Any Ideas? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

RESOLVED - But Not Sure How
This morning my phone refuses to send or receive photos, gifs, bitmoji, etc via text. It worked fine yesterday and all I did was charge it last night. No apps were updated since everything was working fine.
This is what I have done so far to try to fix. I normally use Textra.
1) Switched to a different messaging app (Samsung Messages and Chomp)
2) Rebooted
3) Cleared Cache and Data in Textra
4) Cleared cache in recovery
5) Hard reset (not factory reset)
6) Verified I can send SMS including emoji and make phone calls.
7) Verified I can share the same photos via email.
8) Turned Mobile data on and off and switched between network modes Global and LTE/CDMA
That's all I could think of. No change in behavior. I would rather not factor reset, but I may end up doing that . I am rooted and can backup via Flashfire if needed.
Update: After writing this post and messing around some more with the phone I got a subsystem crash - modem. I have had these before, pretty infrequently. No change in the problem. It appears that I am not getting MMS at all which makes sense. Only SMS.
Update: Resolved - I am wondering if this was a Verizon issue. I went out for a bike ride and used the phone to track my ride. When I got back, MMS was working again.
Thanks

[Q] Messaging Hangs!

Hi, I bought One X approximately a month back, the phone is awesome. But the issue that suddenly started to occur was yesterday when I tried to open up one of my messages, but the screen wont open, instead when I try to open up any specific conversation tab, it keeps on loading and won't show any messages at all from that person. Also after it showed this problem, I am unable to read new texts and even delete any of my texts (it sort of hangs) whereas the other phone features work clearly.
Did a factory reset, restored the backup but still no change. Kindly help me as to what should I do.
THanks!!
I ended up rooting into a custom rom hehe.
Are you rooted?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Ironically it's restoring the backup that is probably why the problem is back. Because you restored the problem too!
Open up the Messaging in 'Manage Applications' and clear cache and data. You'll loose all of your received SMS messages but at least you'll be able to use Messaging again.
If it persists ring your provider and get them to send through your SMS message center settings again.

Try to use go sms or other 3rd party messaging app... I think you've reach the maximum capacity of stock messaging...

CDMA one V not receiving text messages

Hi all, first post, I searched and searched and couldn't find anything, so I'm making a new post.
Ever since about a day ago, I haven't been getting sms messages. people have been saying they've been trying to text me all day, and I just sent myself a text thru email using @vmobl.com and I haven't gotten any texts. I used to get this problem with my old Optimus V on Virgin as well, and the way I would fix it is turning it off and removing the battery and all the texts would appear when I started the phone back up, but obviously the one v doesn't have a removable battery, so I can't quite do that. My notification light is going off, but the only thing I have in my notifications is voicemail, and it's never blinked for me before for that
I've tried restarting, turning it off and leaving it for 5 minutes, cycling airplane mode, and booting into cwm and erasing cache. It's a CDMA Virgin Mobile phone, running shubhamchamaria's non-sense ROM v1.1 I use ChompSMS for my main client, but I also have the AOSP messaging client installed which came with the ROM.
I'm probably going to make a nandroid and return to factory settings and see if that works, but I want to know if there's anything else I can try. Thanks!
EDIT: see final reply, I got the problem fixed by reflashing my nandroid of the factory settings, after that I flashed a new rom and texting still works. Thanks for reading everyone
hmm, i had that happen to me before but it fixed the problem after i cleared the cache. i have no idea if it will make a difference, but try Go SMS Pro...? i'm skeptical that it's the text app, though.

Thanks for the suggestions, clearing the cache didn't work, I cleared dalvik and regular caches, but still not getting messages. I did try GoSMS, but that didn't help either, I'm gonna try restoring to factory settings and see if that helps
I restored my phone to factory settings and it started receiving texts again, I've since flashed the paranoid android rom and it's still working just fine, thanks for reading everyone!

Loosing about 50% of my Texts...

I have a Galaxy S8+ (SMG955UZKV) (Verizon)) running on PagePlus (Verizon MVNO) since I purchased it from Samsung. All has been perfect until about a week ago when I realized that I wasn't getting some SMS alerts that I used to get (credit card use, home phone voicemail, family and such) I can find no pattern, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I seems that I can always send them.
The only thing that was out of the ordinary during that time period was that I traveled from Nevada to Ohio, and Illinois, and back to Nevada, which I believe was they first time "airplane mode" was ever used.
I have cleared the cache for the default messenger, and for Textra (which I much prefer) I have re-seated the sim card, obviously rebooted the phone. It seems that everything works fine right after a reboot, but then back to not receiving some texts.
I contacted Pageplus through the chat feature on their site, and the first person said that they reset my profile, and to reboot the phone (and of course things worked fine after a boot...) The second person insisted that I do a factory reset, that there was a "defect" with the S8's and android and after the reset "the phone would download new software" and I should be fine. When I explained to her that really isn't they way it worked, and that the software would have to come from Verizon, which wasn't going to happen OTA since I was using Pageplus, she just wanted to get rid of me, which is why I am posting. I get my updates using the Verizon Wireless Software Update Assistant, and I am currently running G955usQU1AQGL as of 8/30/17, the phone is stock.
Does anybody else have problems with texts or have any suggestions?

This may or may not help, but I would go into recovery and clear cache. It will clear cache for all of your apps. It won't be like wiping the phone. If that doesn't work, I would try some different messaging apps. Last resort would be to factory reset.
Clearing the cache in recovery did not help.
I get the same results using the stock Messenger and Textra...

I am at a loss then. Not sure what to do. Trying a factory reset is pretty drastic and it may or may not help.
Well, I finally did a factory reset, and it did fix my problem of not receiving most of my texts, it also fixed the problem of the DND icon and notification being missing (although it worked fine). Man you just forget all of the little mods and settings that you setup on your phone...

I am glad that worked out for you. A lot of work if it hadn't fixed it.

Not receiving images via sms

I am able to text images to people and they get them with issues. If anybody sends me one it didn't come thru. There is a link that says download and I get a busy cursor and it never downloads. I have tried clearing the cache and clearing the data for the stock messages app. I have tried using Google messages and the same thing happens. Any ideas how to fix this?

Did you check your APN settings and make sure they are right?
Check the APN setting for your carrier, I've had same problem in the past and it was always a problem with the APN setting.
It was working fine until Friday. I will check the apn and see though
It was working fine until Friday and didn't make any apn changes. I just looked and the settings all are what they should be. Sorry for the double pay. My app didn't refresh properly

Are you using a custom DNS entry or some sort of DNS changer? This can and does on occasion break MMS capabilities. I have had this problem and by disabling the custom entry (or app) MMS returns to normal.
Did you do anything or make any changes to or with the phone at all prior to MMS not working?
You could also contact your provider and see if they have any seevice problems or issues. It is possible that there maybe a problem on the providers end.. either provisioning, account setting or something else.
They also may need to refresh the device on the network, sometimes when things like that happened to me this usually solved it.
Two other things you can try and/or check.
If your roaming or not. Depending on the provider and plan you might not be able to send mms while roaming. Either they do not offer data use while roaming, or else a data limit is in use (and you hit that limit).
Try resetting the network settings. On your phone it would be under settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will rest all the network settings back to default. Only draw back to this is any saved bluetooth devices and WIFI access points will be lost, so you will have to enter them in again.
I had an issue with mms once too and no matter what i did it wouldnt correct itself. Even factory reset. I changed the sim card to a new one and it worked. Dont know why but it worked. If you have an extra one try that.
I had the same exact issue! It started around Oct. 11th. I didn't even know that I was missing images from friends...they thought I was ignoring their texts. This problem was driving me nuts. I had been searching everywhere for answers and can't believe you described the same exact problem.
I'm on an Unlocked N10+ & I flashed the ATT firmware months ago and thought this might have something to do with it. I never owned an Unlocked phone before. Turns out that it was my own user error -->
I hadn't changed any of the APN settings. I was using Pulse SMS, tried Google Android Messages then the stock SMS app. No luck. I reset the network settings around 4 times. I thought this was the fix because it seemed to work for awhile but only with the stock messaging app. New images came in at first & I could only retrieve those older missing photos for the current day. The missing images were all listed as Unknown Caller. Later on in the day, I wasn't receiving images again...in any SMS app.
I was going to restore/reset my phone today but before that I started backing items up and checked my backed up SMS messages and the 2 recent ones said Oct. 31st!!!. WTH!?!
I then went into my Date/Time settings, I toggled the switch on and off again for the Automatic Date and Time. Re-selected my Time Zone and made sure that the Date and Time were accurate. They weren't...
I'm sure that this is where I screwed everything up because I had set my date (a couple of times in the past few weeks) ahead 5 days to see if I'd get the latest software/firmware update. I forgot to switch something back to my usual (and accurate) date & time setting which includes setting my time zone.
So far, this process seemed to work. I'm once again getting SMS/MMS images and videos within Pulse SMS.

SMS message order and phone not ringing on sleep screen, Android 10, Pixel 2XL

OK, so I like many others have had some serious problems with the Android 10 in place update. So I decided to do a factory reset, and this time, actually rely (and pray) on Google backup and restore.
Shockingly, restore worked pretty well, and it generally put the phone back to the way it was.
I did the wipe/restore because since the Q update, phone calls don't show up on the sleep screen. The phone remains black, and I have no idea that people are calling if I have it on silent. The restore didn't fix it unfortunately....
But what did happen, is that when SMS was restored, the only app I can see them correctly in is Google Messages. I'd been using Chomp for years, but the messages load completely randomly there. I tried deleting Chomp, clearing its cache and storage, but nothing works. Also tried Textra and its random as well.
Obviously, the SMS database is loaded correctly as it works fine in Googles base app
No idea what to do from here. Any thoughts appreciated.....
