Poorly optimized code I'd guess. I'm on a custom ROM and it's smooth no matter what. It could also have to do with what you've got running in the background. If you've got like 10 different things running actively in the background I would think that'd slow things down.

What ROM are you using? I'm on bakedsnackbeta7 it could be its poorly optimized cause its still beta
I am new to PA (v6.03) running it on Sony Xperia Z2 (D6503) and chose it over the other roms because of the features it's celebrated for (Halo, Pie, super customization, etc). However, I cannot find any of this stuff in the settings, nor is there an app dedicated to these features that I can tell? All I see is a super stripped down version of Android. Which I definitely appreciate after using the bloated Sony version for nearly 2 years. But I want the cool stuff, where is it?? There are no questions on the net about this so clearly I'm an idiot, but help this idiot out, please! A guide, a pointer, something, Thanks!
Ok, for anyone else reading this thread and wondering the same as me, I found a guide on android authority as well as info on a bunch of other sites across the web, pm me for links.
But apparently Halo isn't what it was (declared dead by its own developers), it's basically now called "peeking" and doesn't have the floating notifications. You can still access the floating window features a few ways, so the meat of the feature survived to PA 6.03. Immersive mode, I found on my own, and was in the hidden elements in the quick settings. I had to tap on the add button to see options for immersive mode and floating peek. Once those were added to the shown quick options I could control immersive mode and peeking.
I tried the Floatifications app to get the halo style notifications back but it was clunky and annoying, so I uninstalled it. I'm just using the Halo app from the app store (which doesn't seem to do floating notifications at all, at least on Z2) and native controls to handle peeking, definitely not the glory days for that feature. As far as the customization-ability of PA I am extremely underwhelmed, after reading all the hype of previous versions. PA 6 is solid but it's an empty shell of it's former glory. I didn't even find the pie controls which are supposed to be part of immersive mode. I downloaded a third party pie controls app, it works but it's not pretty. I know a lot of people hate the pie controls but I'm finding it useful in clearing up real estate on my desktop, and not finding it at all in the way, as many complain about.
Anyway, I'm by no means an expert, only reporting what this PA newb is finding in my quest for knowledge. Definitely would like to hear what the experts here on xda think and know about PA 6, as I feel like I'm definitely missing something here, even after what I've found so far.
You're aware of what happened to the team right?
Several of the team went to work for OnePlus and some people quit working on the project altogether. It's mostly a new team with a few of the old members still hanging around working on what they can.
I still maintain the servers but the activity is all focused on creating a solid stable base to lay down features on top of.
As Android changes and matures, there are features that get left in the dust. Ideas progress and what was in a previous major version of PA, may not make it to the next version.
Pie hasn't been added back into the builds publicly and just because you have immersive mode doesn't mean pie is included.
I bought a Galaxy s9, a couple of weeks ago and the next update came:
G900ZHU2ARE6 / G9600OWA2ARE6 / G9600ZCU2ARE6
my question is, is it advisable to update it? or I wait for Android P?
Currently I have the G9600ZHU1ARBG version
Of course update it

Just curious, but why do you think it's not ok to update. I've seen very few if any problems with an official update.
I just did the update and I regret it so much. First of all, dozens of my apps don't work anymore. Most noticeably - Swipe Keyboard and Coinbase Wallet. Besides that, I can't apply custom themes from themeGalaxy anymore because the demo themes are limited to 10 minutes of use now. Good Lock refuses to work as well and I hate the new Quick settings and task window. Also getting random crashes on every other app now. My phone is entirely stock and not rooted. All in all, awful experience for me.

That was my initial thought. Luckily I managed to fix the app crashing issue (my custom launcher design was at fault). However, I had to revert to the standard theme and I'm not a fan of the new non-customizable task changer and notification bar. I'll learn to live with those, I guess. It's pointless to stay at an older Android version for such minor reasons.

Overall it is a huge upgrade over Oreo, few changes to adjust to but as is the way with updates, personally I prefer the new task changer and so on now, while weirdly when using Goodlock on Oreo I hated that design and always left it as stock
Update G9600
Go to Setup / update / manual update / search for update
The phone is loading the official Samsung S9 G9600 update.
(every month between 10 and 15 has an update)
In January promised update to Android PIE official.

My issues with the task changer are the fact that you can't swipe the apps down anymore (it now opens them instead of dismissing) and the inability of leaving the task changer by simply tapping the background. It just disrupts my "workflow" and I'm getting annoyed by it every single time. Oh, and I'm always locking my chat apps but now the unlock button is in the lower right corner of the app card, which is where my thumb usually sits when I scroll through - I'm constantly unlocking the app instead of switching to it.
But I'll get used to it, I guess.

I don't lock chat apps, and if I am closing recents, I just close them all using the "Close All" button anyway so that doesn't really bother me, just took a bit of time to get used to swiping side to side instead of up and down to scroll through them, but while I was running one of the beta's of Pie the close all button was missing so I got used to swiping up to close them anyway, like you say you adjust over time

That's my problem. Swiping up and down seems normal and about half the time I swipe up and close the app window. I believe someone suggested it and it got the standard canned response.

Can say the same here, feels sluggish. I updated it to Pie after hearing great stuff from others.
I'll see if clearing app data of most apps makes any difference.
On the official beta I'm not seeing any sluggishness at all but I do see others on it complaining about it.

https://r1.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-Note/Android-10-Lag-on-Note10/td-p/3320184
Has anyone else seen noticeable Lag after updating to Android 10 in the galaxy s10 or Note10+.
Using the samsung launcher, there is lag when scrolling through the app drawer and multitasking.
I have tried,*
cleaning my dalvik cache
Removing my SD card
Updating all apps for android 10
And performing the built in device care optimization*
I think a performance update is needed to take care of this.
The multitasking lag becomes worse during the day until phone is restarted.*
Update 31012020: I finally decided to factory reset my phone. This did not work. I use nova launcher and uninstalled it as well. Lag still remains.
I have found that the lag only appears after about 20+ apps are in the recent apps menu. However this issue did not happen in Android 9. What is also interesting my moms s10 exhibits the same behaviour.
Further I have gone into developer options and when I set Animator level from 1x to 0x, the lag is gone. This is the only solution. However the downside to this is that instead of animations of loading wheels or progress bars, there is just a static circular arrow. I hope Samsunf fixes this issue.
Have had zero lag since updating to android 10. Never had any lag on pie either. Maybe its just an issue with your phone
I had alot of lag, everything lagged actually. The latest TMobile update fixed it for me.
I have had lag. Just opening simple apps like what's app and trying to start typing.
I have the very same issue on my Exynos Note 10. After the Android 10 update, app launcher and app switcher lag like it's 2006.
Lag in Note 10 +
Hi, just updated to 10 and it's really poor. Lag everywhere. Mostly between apps pages. But mostly everywhere. I'm in NZ with Spark Network. Personally feel this has to be fixed with an update.

Had exactly the same issue on my note 10+ (exynos).. after complaining about the issue I saw a post that mentioned that some apps with the permission to display on top was the culprit. In my case, after disabling this permission of dashlane it fixed the problem. Are you using dashlane?

Hey,
I am using lastpass, which does require the appear on top permission.
Solution:
update 04022020. I finally got rid of the lag. I installed the Samsung Goodlock app from the Galaxy app store and installed the task changer plugin. I then set my task manager to be displayed as a grid. but you can change it to any style.
the Goodlock app and plugin are designed by Samsung. this leads me to believe there is something wrong with the stock animation in the app switcher.
Good fix for task switcher, but it doesn't solve the app pages speed issue. Samsung need to release a fix
---------- Post added at 08:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:32 AM ----------
Solved it ! for me, it's definitely 3rd party apps that run in the background. Check your permissions and what has accesses to your phone. For me a block site app that has accessablility access was the culprit.
Spamsung, up to his old tricks, got a nope10 rooted up and have been good, except for all the other spammy DOWNGRADES( samFAIL needs somthing to fkeep you coming back for a new fix) what a twisted guy!
As the sob story goes, if anyone cares to hear the drama from spammy's momma lol
Been on Android 9 and staying, unless spammy forces his spam on me?
So can't search for this problem with Android 9 because everything shows up as note 10 upgrade Android 10, of course when trying to -Android10 it also takes away anything for nope10 results ? so for the past couple hours feels like I am back using my old HTC 4g( that's what I all an upgrade!!) I didn't do anything new just reset the phone because battery ran out, so much lag now ?
Treid changing animation from 1x to none
did not work
Update :
So this happened for a couple days and without any making changes, now today without making any changes everything is back to normal. So my guess is that because of the virus spammy let's the powers that be get inside your phone and spied on creating all this lag, it actually took me initially 7 minutes to type the first part of this message because the lag was so bad.
This is spamsung at his best!
#spamsung for the inside scoop?
I used to have this issue on a nope 8, and I noticed whenever it happened when I had more than say 30+forefox pages open, but now it's happening in the note 10+ saying that ram is using 7.5gb lol
And when in i used a task manager it would show - 1million kb boost to stop apps running and forefox had all that negitve - 1million + kb's on it but now it's showing Firefox with only 189mb but the boost is still at 1m+ lol
I don't know what anybody's talking about with lag this thing's a beast! Try beast mode kernel too little bit of battery loss but **** it who cares it's so damn snappy I can't see straight when I'm playing with my phone
Odd, odd, I have never, ever experienced anything of the sort in any of my samsung devices, since the S3, I currently own a note 10+ running android 10, it behaves exactly as day one, so, the cause must be something not related to official firmwares issued by samsung
Which apps are lagging?
Could scope storage be the culprit?
I'm still on Pie and it remains very fast and rock solid stable phone.
There's a lot I don't like about 10 and 11.
Funny Google is preaching security with their OS "improvements" when Goggle is one of the worst data miners there is.
Hi all, have a stock debloated F3 with ota updates, however have realised my screenshots are not working with either gestures or side buttons.
Have tried reinstalling all the packages after the debloat, have enabled miui optimisations, have searched here and elsewhere but can't find a solution to get it working.
Aside from resetting the phone (which would take me days to get back to my setup), can anyone offer any solution?
Thanks in advance
Jordie
That's handled by the Screenshot system app.
This is why you don't uninstall system apps! I don't get this obsession of breaking the OS. If you're unhappy with the OS, switch to another ROM. MIUI as a whole is a Bloat, there isn't really much you can do. After everything you do, it will still send telemetry in the background. Best way is to switch the ROM entirely.
