I'm planning to buy this from rn4. Someone says that android auto is faulty. Truth?
On my Seat Ateca I used, without any issue whatsoever, an Asus Zenfone 3 for over an year.
Unfortunately, my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Global is a pain in the ...
I have tried tons of different (quality) cables, including the original Xiaomi one.
Tried with developer options, MTP, starting AA before connecting, after connecting, while connecting, opening AA, closing it, sitting, standing, breathing, laughing...
Never found the reason why, once in a lifetime, it decides to work. It took me from 5 mins to 20 to have it running.
A real pain!
Disable dualapps
In my case I could connect with my original cable, no issues, you just need to disable the "dualApps" thingy, but I have other issues.
1- Waze when using the android auto, can look for directions start navigation it even calculates the time and traffic, but the position won't move, on the map, my position is always displayed on the starting point, but I get audio notifications, ODD!
2- Spotify, every time I connect the cell phone to the android auto, I'm getting a screen that says "Update something" and I cannot use Spotify unless I restart the phone (even if it's working fine on the device)
A redmi note 5 new, I used android auto on a Zenfone 3 for a year or so with no issues.
I figure out how to fix these issues, more or less:
1. Be very sure that for spotify and waze, the battery rules are set to allow everything (not automatically optimized). Our phone use to shutdown background applications for battery optimizations (so, no more waze gps location). Same for spotify.
2. Enable for android auto, spotify, whatsapp and waze the automatically launch on start.
hi, I have same problems with my RN5 Global and my Ateca. tried lot of Roms, all of them needs up to 10 minutes to connect. I have tested other phones, S7, A5, no problems. only RN5 have this problems. it seems to have MTP issues in the firmware

My issue seems to be different from others' as mine isn't just bluetooth losing its connection - it actually unpairs.
In my car (it has an Android Auto compatible infotainment system) it works fine for ages then fails to connect all of a sudden. Then after a while a message pops up on the car's screen saying "bluetooth pairing successful". The phone then asks me for contact sharing permissions. Of course it screws up the smart unlock feature as a result forcing me to set it up again.
On my Huawei watch 2 sport it loses connection and so the wear os app says the watch is disconnected. Bluetooth settings show the watch to be invisible and, as a result, smart unlock gets unconfigured and I have to set it up again. The watch battery discharges very quickly - probably constantly searching for the phone.
I reboot of both devices seems to fix it, for a while.
This is all since the Pie official update.
Does anyone have any fixes please?

No fixes but same problems here
I'm having the same issue also very frequently with WiFi dropping all the time. These two reasons are linked from what I been told. Google telling me to RMA. The pain of that
Mine has done this with my Gear S3 watch since I first got the phone a few months ago, it had me seriously considering returning it for a while. Sometimes it would just disconnect from the bluetooth, but often it would unpair causing me to have to go through the whole set up process again. It did this on Android O, various DP builds of P but so far (touch wood) has been good with the latest version of the Samsung software and Android P.
I'm having the same issues as well and currently searching for answers.
Just recently over the last couple months, I have been having a problem with getting a good gps signal in programs such as Waze and Google maps. I have done all kinds of searches and many mention to go into settings and in location settings, turn on High Accuracy. That option is bo longer available and not sure if it was eliminated in Pie. I have been doing all the latest updates and believe I am current. The only thing I have been able to find is to go into settings, then Biometrics, and there I found location. The only choices under Improve Accuracy is to turn on Wifi scanning and Bluetooth scanning which I have done. There no longer is a choice of High Accuracy and the ability to turn GPS on or off like I had in previous phones and previous versions of Android. I have even tried turning on High Performance under Battery Power settings and turned off any choices to optimize battery or disable apps. I ended up downloading 2 different GPS apps from Store, GPS Status and GPS Fix/Optimizer. I will normally use Waze or Google maps through Android Auto. I can tell when there is a problem when the position indicator keeps bouncing all over the place in Waze and cant find exactly where I am. When that happens, I will check on GPS Status and it always shows that it is having a problem acquiring the satellite signals. I will then open up GPS Fix/Optimizer and on the home screen, there is a button that will say Service Off. I press it and it will then read Service On. Switching back to GPS Status will now show that it is starting to acquire multiple satellite signals. When I switch back to Waze, now it is able to show my exact location and begins to work properly.
This is driving me nuts. I never had this problem on any other of multiple different phones or Android versions. I can get GPS working but have to jump through all these hoops each time and it sucks. So what other steps can I do to be able to fire up Waze and have it find me right away?
It's not just an Android Auto thing, it happens with GPS in general. There have been many posts about it over on Reddit in the Note 8 Forum dating back to March. The best fix is to just toggle location whenever you notice that GPS isn't working.
The scary thing is not only has Samsung not even acknowledged there is an issue, newer phones are also starting to have the problem. Just saw people complaining about the same thing in a S20 forum. Just like our issues, they started after an update.

Did you ever find a fix for this problem ? I am dealing with this too and have been for a while. GPS when using as a phone is no issues at all but, once you connect Android Auto, it's a mess. Very hit or miss and even if I hit where it works, it will drift off and require me to unplug/re-plugin my Note 8..
I posted to a few other places on this issue, nothing has solidly fixed this. Otherwise my note 8 works fine, so I no reason right now to upgrade, till the phone I want drops a little in price.

I still havent found a fix. Here is another thread I started on the main Galaxy Note 8 that produced a lot more discussion but sadly, no fix yet.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/help/recent-gps-problems-t4058849
For me at least, it seems like it may be an issue between Android Auto and my Chevrolet. Still not entirely convinced but folks over at Android Auto claim that there is a communication problem with Android Auto trying to communicate with the internal gps on my truck. Supposedly even though I dont have traditional on board navigation, there is still gps communications going on. I believe that with Chevy, it is the onstar system. Android Auto is programmed to utilize vehicle gps because it is supposed to be more accurate. Unfortunately, if that is the case, and there is constant communication error between the Note 8 and vehicle, the result is that the apps in AA like Waze and Google maps continually have location errors. I inquired why AA couldnt just allow users to utilize the phone GPS as an option and was again told that a vehicle gps would be way more accurate so that option isnt available. When unplugging usb from vehicle, it defaults to the phone GPS and begins working again almost immediately. So is the problem with AA programming or communication problems with my Chevy truck? Who knows. Sometimes they communicate just fine from the get go but other times, not so much. I just wish the problem could be fixed. I would be leaning towards AA programming as this does not just happen with Chevy vehicles but AA just passes the buck.

Yep, saw that thread as well and the one on Android Auto's site, I even replied to it. Wishing there was a solid fix here but, no... I have a Lexus LS that I added on a 3rd party Android auto device on. I had this same issue when I had a 2019 Ford with Android Auto as a rental. I figured 6 months later (I just put AA in my car about 2 weeks ago) it would be resolved by now.
Not 100% sure it is the GPS car thing you were told, as other phones plug into Android auto and have a seamless experience if this was the case, all phones would have this issue. We are using the same software. So why is the Note 8 different ? Well, I hear this effects other Samsung phones but, none as bad as the Note 8. Newer Android 10 even Samsung phones do not report this issue, as far as I have heard.
Oh, well the quest goes on... If you find something, please drop me a line....and thanks !

Toggling when driving is not a good idea, Normally unplugging and plugging back in works just as well. Funny for the last week, it was working fine (get lost when in a lot of trees and sometimes not recover but, on the highway it was perfect), till this morning and it was a mess.
There was an update for the Note 8 on Verizon a week ago, I need to double check all the power saving features and make sure they are fully disabled...
I had also started a thread on the Google Android Auto community back in May where the developers monitor posts. Just recently (about a week ago) it seems they are acknowledging that there may be a problem and posted they were going to send out emails to several that were affected by this. They gave directions on how to forward a bug report to them when the problem showed up. I was one that received the bug report email. I have since submitted 2 bug reports to them but have not received any kind of reply. Hopefully I hear back sometime soon and they are able to identify exactly what the problem is. If I do, I will post their response...
Not at all stable to use as daily driver.
1 - No notifications after some times when the phone is ideal you have to open the app, like they are in deep sleep. gave all permissions like auto start, battery restriction none, no data restrictions.
2 - Bluetooth earphones gets disconnected randomly, usually when you lock unlock the device.
3 - Wifi speed degrade when you use Bluetooth and wifi at the same time.
4 - whatsapp video call are still lagging, connecting issue, other phones on the same network works fine.
5 - Battery backup degraded by at least 30%
6 - camera quality is noticeably degraded.
7 - fast charging not working with tbe official charger as well
and there are many more.
please post your work around for this bugs, it will be helpful as xiaomi is not going to launch any update sooner looking at ter track records.
I think you need to do a factory reset.
Battery is exactly the same for me as Android 9.
Camera quality is the same too.
Fast charging works for me with default charger.
Don't know about the rest.

Already did reset 3 times, thought my old google backup setting is the issue, even after setting up without restoring the backup this issues are there, specially the notification, Bluetooth and wifi issue.
I didn't noticed that many problems like you, only the battery performance lost, I went from 10 hours of screen on time, to around 6-7, factory reset from recovery didn't help, but that was enough reason for me to dare to unlock the bootloader, so I went back to MIUI 11.0.3 based on android 9, now I have my 10 hours of screen on time and I'm more than happy, the only feature I miss from android 10, was the wifi dynamic MAC address
So have you downgraded back to android 9
Can you please help me how to do so
Can't we download android 9 package from mi website and install as package in update settings?

1. Not happening here.
2. Also not happening.
3. This is normal if you use 2.4Ghz wifi + bluetooth, wifi always slow - READ WHY
4. This is Whatsapp issue, not phone specific. Try other such as Line or Duo. I only found lags on Whatsapp.
5, 6, 7. Not happening to me.
About battery, try flashing old one via Mi Flash > flash & clean all (don't lock back).

i am talking about Indian variant, various users have already raised this issues, also mi developers had confirm this notification issue and forwarded it to there developers.
2 - this was not there before day i switched to andorid 10 even after reseting 2 times i am facing this issue
3 - This wasnt the thing on android 9 that is the problem
4 - tried telegram duo, even the calls are not coming. forget about mesgs.
6 - this is also confirmed by many users
I'm in last version and Android 10 but don't have any of this problems in my phone! Performance is better than Android 9 and everything is fine! You must do a factory reset to fix this problems.
I am also on android 10 on the indian variant and I can confirm that the 1st issue which is about no notifications after some time is happening to me also. Although I don't know about the rest. About charging and battery backup, I think it is same as before.

I'm only facing the notification issue mentioned in the tread. Everything same, miui 11.0.2 android 10. All settings tested. Also tried pnf app. No use. Another symptom is when I open WhatsApp all the messages are delivered only then. Have allowed it to run in background, disabled power saving, all notification allowed, auto start permission given.
anyone noticing bluetooth mac is changed to 00:00:46:00:00:01?
maybe this causing the bluetooth disconnection issue?
I just noticed it on both of my RN8pro running Indonesian fw Android 10.
Mine upgraded yesterday throught OTA to MIUI 11.0.4(QGGIXM)/Andorid 10.
I came from the Andoird 9 and everything was good, but after the upgrade my GPS in Dual Space and Second Space can´t lock my postion.
Tried to hard reset 3 times and reflashed this ROM manualy and nohing. I still have the bootloader locked and can´t downgrade now.
I made some tests using app GPS test, in te upper screen is the "normal" app and in the bottom s the dual app that can´t lock the GPS, same thing happens in the second space.
After search a lot, people say that is better to downgrade, so anyone have this issue here or a solution for it?

How does Xiaomi get the feedback on this bugs? Is there still testing even though this is the "stable" version?

No, not yet. It is a pain and I will do it if it is really necessary, I'm not sure if that would work. Anyway I saw the link that someone posted earlier that this kind of interference is a common problem; I never new about it or noticed it. On my PC there is some slowing down also, but not as dramatic as on the RN8P.

So basically it is common problem for all phones or even all device's?
Is it worse on A10 that on A9?

It is very common (if you use 2.4GHz WiFi); you'd need beamforming to get over it. But not all devices are the same - it depends on device quality and antenna separation (for example, laptops with Intel/Killer wifi modules are much less affected by it, while Raspberry Pis are having serious trouble doing both at the same time).
Of course, this only applies in 2.4GHz. Switch to 5GHz, and you'll have no more problems.
When to do factory reset? After updating or before updating?
So I have been using Lenovo Zuk z2 plus from 2017. The phone worked fine till 2019 with some minor issues which all phones have. But from August 2019, these are following issues I have been facing:-
1. The app switching option which is a basic feature in all mobiles has been not functioning so I can't multitask in this mobile.
2. The quick panel which comes from bottom is not functioning so I have to start WiFi, mobile network, etc options by going to settings.
3. The WhatsApp application stops working after 2am ie it force stops and don't function, I have to start it then it loads messages.
4. All Google apps stopped syncing and don't work eg I cant download any app from playstore, my mails don't come in Gmail app, I can't use Google pay, etc.
5. My phone don't charge after plugging in to charger and I have original charger. After connecting it shows charging and stops and then heats like hell. Sometimes it drains very very very fast and switches off while charging and many times 0% battery shows and phone switches off and then switches on shows 0% battery and then again switches off. This happens many times.
6. My keyboard's 3rd line don't work. When I touch that line, it types upper line or lover spacebar.
7. My phone heats like a oven with using, without using, charging, etc.
I also have minor issues like phone is very slow, volte not working, etc issue.
So I am using original ROM which comes with mobile and Haven't done anything different than this. I am having noghat which update was given by Zuk.
Guys please help me I am in big problem due to this phone and my parents are not buying me a new phone.

Since it has been 3 years now, and from point 5 & 7 the most possible cause is your battery is dead and needs replacing..
It usually costs around 2000 rupees to change from authorized service centre.
Point number 1,2 & 6 could be due faulty touch screen.. You can download screen test app from play store to test and check if there are dead spots.. If it is touch screen issue and it needs replacing then it will be another 1000-2000 rupees approx depending if do original or not..
In this situation I would suggest you to go for new phone as there are many options available like redmi note 8 or realme 3 or 5 series which will not cost you more than 10-12000 rupees.. Which is around the same price as of this phone..
If you do get battery and screen replaced under 4000 then for rest issues I would suggest you to flash custom ROM as you would get a much better ui and latest android 10..
This phone is good to go for atleast 2021.. We have been receiving custom ROM from android 6 and hopefully with developer release of android 11 beta 2 already happened we should have android 11 support soon for z2 as well..
point 6 happened to me earlier and yes this is touch issue which can be fixed by electrostatic effect i.e. you can use lighter (for gas burner ignition or the one which can be found in cigarette lighter). Just provide multiple shocks at non touch responsive area, turn screen off, on and problem solved. believe me this trick saved my money also.
The Mi Mix Fold is great as a media device, but it is full of bugs, there are many problems with this device:
1). the rom, the software on this phone is china miui and there is no custom rom, meaning you are stuck with whatever china region related miui issues such as: 1). no caller name when someone is calling 2).
keyboard gets switched to china keyboard after every restart 3).
many apps won't work simply because the phone is china or in english, so if you leave somewhere else in the world, apps that support your native language might not work properly, 4).
if you set your region in the phone to somewhere outside of china, you get annoying wifi disconnects that are only fixed when turning off and wifi on 5).
because of the above feature unless you open the apps to check occasionally if you received messages, you will miss out on notifications since they can randomly stop working until you turn wifi off and on again, or enter the app manually (I tried locking the app, setting it to auto start, also turning off battery saving options but it keeps happening and whatsapp for example is a pain to handle since I have to manually open the app to see if I have messages.
if anyone knows how to solve any of the above issues or would like to share their experience about this please post a reply, thanks everyone!
Please make a global rom, request to All developed

because of the above feature unless you open the apps to check occasionally if you received messages, you will miss out on notifications since they can randomly stop working until you turn wifi off and on again, or enter the app manually (I tried locking the app, setting it to auto start, also turning off battery saving options but it keeps happening and whatsapp for example is a pain to handle since I have to manually open the app to see if I have messages.
if anyone knows how to solve any of the above issues or would like to share their experience about this please post a reply, thanks everyone!

Hi. I used to have this problem also with my Xiaomi Fold, and after a long troubleshooting period and reading ur post, found the issue are the towers in US, the 5G signal being inconsistent or weak. I installed the app Connection Stabilizer Booster/google store and since then (1month+), notification delay is 5-10mins maximum, no phone calls missed. Most of times on 4G, was showing 5G prior. Hope helps.

Hey its been so long since I posted this, around December I got the mi 11 ultra again and sold the mix fold at a loss, because it has no market here, but it was the best decision I made, the mix fold dissappointed me everywhere, low refresh rate screens, bad cameras, no wireless charging, very bad software support (still on android 11), the mi 11 ultra fixes all these issues and does more, this mix fold was my first and last foldable phone, horrible device in everyway compared to the mi 11 ultra
Instead of the Mi 11 Ultra, I just bought an Oppo Find N after the inner screen on my Mix Fold broke.
(it had been showing signs of damage i.e. stuck/dead pixels, and then one day I pulled it out my pocket, and the screen was suddenly busted and non-functional)
Anyways, just wanted to say that the 8GB Oppo Find N is overall waay nicer than my 16GB Mix Fold was. This is a PSA.
Also, if anyone is interested in buying a Mix Fold with a busted inner screen, let me know. I'll let you figure out the repair.
