I just picked up a used Pixel 2 XL (on 9.0) from Swappa. I have one of the old VZW unlimited plans from 2009 and use my Z2Play to tether while on the road. I just tried to do it with my Pixel 2 XL and it told me to contact Verizon.
Is there a workaround or do I need to root/install a custom ROM?
Thanks.
need root to edit the build.prop settings to enable tether

Thank you for the reply. I ended up rooting and installing Magisk 17 and downloading the V15 tethering enable from a post here. It's working.

Can you link me? Does this hide hotspot from Verizon so you can have unlimited tether with no throttle to 600kbps?

Do you mean tetheren?
There is no wireless tether for non-root users. All you can get is EasyTether, which is wired.
+1 but its still a great app

There is like 30 steps in order to tether to the device LOL, with the steps shown in that forum, does that use the tethering installed in the phone or do i have to download a app, because the google tethering app is really not a good app at all.

I already mentioned using my rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2088312
It has tethering built in with no additional apps or steps needed.
But can I get some clarification? I am looking for methods to usb tether but everywhere I look on here are fixes for wifi tether. Now am I correct in thinking wifi tether is the same as mobile hotspot because that works flawlessly atm. USB tethering works but only when my phone is on wifi, if on 4g I get the dreaded "pay up sucka!" screen.

Evil1art is one of the most "user service" oriented devs in this forum... Jump in his thread and ask... The users of that ROM are also very knowledgeable and friendly when it comes to helping others

Wait a few days and upgrade your account, the new plans should all have tethering except the unlimited, that requires extra money for tethering.

They haven't updated the business pricing yet. We have about 9 lines and some of my techs have tethering but the rest of us do not since we use it so infrequently.

Yes, you can tether with the stock app if you have the Mobile Share plan. No need for apps like foxfi.
