I am using an Unifi security gateway and am not able anymore to connect via vpn, it did worked some weeks ago as my note 5 pro was brand new.. Thought first the problem is with one of the custom roms, but even after i did mui 10 on again it does not work, unable to connect. Still able to connect with an old samsung with the same username, password and so on... so my thought is, is it caused by the unlocked bootloader? if so, is there any trick to fix inbuild vpn?

Hi guys,
since two days ago I'm not be able to use anymore the hotspot function of my desire if I try to connect with a pc with windows xp (I've tried with 3 different pc and all of them stuck when they try to acquire the ip address from the desire, resulting after 1 minute in a message "connection has limited access" or something similar, sorry but it's written in Italian and I do not know exactly the english translation).
If I try to connect to the desire with a laptop in which vista is installed, the connection works properly.
I do not know if it could be a useful information, if I enable on the desire the password for the connection, all the laptops with xp are not able to understand the a password is required.
Please note that till 2 days ago I was using daily the hotspot function on my laptop with xp and I've never had a problem, always connecting at the first attempt.
Do you have any idea about which could be the cause of the problem?
Regards,
Nicola
Are you trying to connect to the Desire with WPA2 security? If so XP has issues with that, try without any sort of security.

UPDATE: since my desire is rooted via unrevoked 3.2, I made a full backup of the phone with the recovery mode, then I wiped all data and I tried the hotspot function before reapplying the backup, and it worked well also with xp!
Then I reinstall the backup and it stopped again.
Now the point is, it should be an application that has modified in someway the system settings?
Working here without issues,
rooted desire with stock official HTC 2.10.405.2 OTA update
connecting to Windows XP with WPA/TKIP security

Finally I got hotspot wi-fi function working as usual on windows xp too, I made an hard reset and re-installed all the application, one by one.
Every time I installed an application I checked if the hotspot was still working and I made a full backup, just in case.
Till now I've note yet found which program has caused the problem...
Hello!
This began about a month ago. I was using Lollipop 5.0 and had absolutely no problems with my phone until one day, all of a sudden I wasn't able to connect to my home wifi network. I enter the password and it just says saved, secured. Then I discovered I was unable to connect to any secured wifi network. I tried soft and hard restarting my phone, restarting my router, forgetting my home network and trying to reconnect, I tried clearing my Google services frame work data, and still nothing.
I finally decided to downgrade to Kit Kat and did a factory reset and loaded a stock version; no dice, I still was not able to connect to secured wifi networks. I tried rooting my device and deleting wpa_supplicants.conf, still back to square one.
I find that I am able to connect to unsecured wifi networks.
Im at my wits end, I really do not know what to do. Please help.

I have a Singapore release of the One M8 and last night I ran the lollipop OTA. The install went fine with no problems but for some reason today tethering is no longer working. I've tried both wifi and usb tether on multiple computers with the same problem, that is it connects fine but there is no internet access. I've done a factory reset as well to no avail. I've also tried different APNs but didn't make any difference.
Anyone have any ideas?

Are you running any kind of firewall setup? I had an issue with tethering and UDP on lollipop. The solution was to switch to a blacklist.
I currently have the firewall turned off in Windows 8.

I actually meant on the phone. Android has iptables built in. However, I am guessing that is not your problem.
At this point, I have no idea, though.

I'm truly sorry to give you a bad news, but Lollipop by default disables tethering for networks that prohibit that (and believe me, more prohibit it than allow it - sometimes this info is very well hidden in contract).
I spent a long time trying to fix it, but with no luck.
Tethering works though with networks that allow it.
I fought with that after receiving Lollipop update to my NVIDIA SHIELD tablet - a total failure. Some folks reported that after rooting it helps one, simple modification of one config file. Let me know if you decide to root your phone, so I can give you some links. Google did block tethering on purpose - the have to play nicely with network operators, right? The trick is with packet's TTL - all you get on your connected device is timeout errors.
I won't tell you more details on that because I gave up - I didn't want to root my tablet.
But don't seek errors in your PC/whatever you want to connect to your Lollipop-based access point - it ain't gonna work.
P.S. Play Store apps that don't require root and are marketed as problem solvers don't work as well. The only way is root...
My carrier doesn't block tethering. It worked fine before the update and I also checked with my carrier and tethering is permitted.
I don't mind rooting so please post the links you are referring to.

Hi folks,
I upgraded my N7100 a couple of weeks ago to rr-n-5.8.x. I then used the built-in upgrade function and I'm currently running RR-N-5.8.5-20171206-n7100-Final. The new ROM seems to be working well but has two notable problems:
1. When I plug into USB, Windows recognises the phone, opens Explorer but neither files nor folders are visible.
2. I'm unable to connect to the PEAP wifi network at my university.
3. (Before I updated to 5.8.5, it seemed that the phone couldn't talk to the GPS. I haven't tested my nav software since I updated.)
I previously ran a custom ROM for several years without trouble and I'm using the same USB cables and ports as I have been for over a year so I'm confident that the cables and ports are fine.
My phone can connect to WPA2 networks without a problem and I was able to connect to uni wifi prior to the upgrade to RR. My laptop connects to the uni wifi so I know that my login/password are OK.
Any ideas why I'm having these problems? Would I be best to switch to a different ROM? I don't do much with my phone but GPS, USB file access and uni wifi are essential for me.
Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion. Are you able to point me in the direction of those files? I've had a dig around XDA but the one bootloader thread I found has dead links.

This should work for most of the world, if you're American then you need to find a different one

Thanks for the link. I've flashed those up. Looks like my USB problem was just that I had it set to 'charge only' mode, not file transfer. So that's fixed! Heading in to uni soon so I'll get to test if the new BL/CP helped get the wifi running.
No change on the WIFI, sadly.
