Hello
I just noticed that camera aperture is set default to f/1.5.
Wonder if there's a way to change it. Believe it leads to impaired photos in 3rd party apps.
Change it in Pro mode under the shutter setting

Well, i didn't mention. Agree it works well in stock camera app but im talking about 3rd party software like instagram, snapchat. Aperture stays always open.

From what I know theres Vignette and Camera360 something, which one takes a better image and I heard with the latest Vignette you cant silence the camera shutter even if you choose the silent settings in the apps menu.. anyone tried this ?
Has anyone else noticed that the photo is fairly bright when you tap the little icon in the Camera app, but then if you tap again and go to Gallery it darkens?
Is it the same as the issue affecting the Galaxy S II's?
Anything we can do about it?
Thanks to any and all for information...
Yep same thing happens here. It's really annoying, everything looks so dull in the gallery app.
bump...
Any thoughts from people more versed in Android/Code than I?
Yes I noticed as well. Looked for a setting in both the camera and the gallery to control brightness, as far as I can tell there isn't one.
Actually it seems to be the screen brightness which is set to maximum when in camera app, and gets back to normal/auto when anywhere else.
A nasty bug, really.

Yeah I have been too thanks. It seems (from other comments and threads) that at least part of the issue is that the Camera app ramps up the brightness for the viewfinder and in the quick view, but the Gallery resorts to the overall system brightness.
I don't know that I buy this though because there are subtle tone and image quality differences. I think brightness is part of it, but something else seems to be going on (jpeg compression maybe?)...

You're right. When I set the screen brightness to max instead of auto, I do not notice any difference when switching from camera preview to gallery.
Not sure if this is a bug or a 'feature' though.

Hmmm I don't notice any tone difference. For me it was the brightness setting.

Agreed I just tried that and it does work better than when I just unchecked auto, shame we can't have the Gallery app scale it up automatically or by default like the Camera. I'd say it was meant to be a battery-saving feature, but I'd rather be able to show off good-looking pics at the times when I wanted to view them.

Outdoor pics are fine (on max brightness), but indoor pics seem to lose a little "warmth" when "darkened" for the gallery, and the "fineness" of the image seems just slightly reduced (more noisy)...
It could be my imagination too though...

Call it a nasty feature, then
I use Llama to automate the brightness. When the camera app or the gallery app is the active application set brightness to 100%. When gallery app and the camera app are not active set the brightness to Auto.
You can obviously add any other apps you might want to have those settings apply to as well.
I would hardly call it a bug. If anything it is smart.
If you are taking a picture in low light, auto brightness is dim, possibly too dim to see any detail. Having the camera at Max brightness ensures you are seeing what the picture will look like, rather than guessing.
Anyone else find the rear camera almost pitch black compared to front camera? I've changed various settings but it doesn't go any brighter.

Most units have the dark camera. Some have a brighter camera.
The best you can do is adjust the exposure setting.
I just posted in another thread that I had this issue, even adjusting all the setting makes very little difference when using the camera in video mode, picture mode is fine though, no issues with darkness etc.

Sorry I didn't see your thread, yes I have exactly same problem in video mode being darker than camera mode with the rear camera no issue with front one though, my bad I should of stated which mode it was in.
Don't know about the dark only in video mode issue.
What I've seen is most cameras look find in bright rooms, but in dimly lit rooms, everything is very dark. I just figured this was normal for this level camera, but then I saw a unit that was able to have the same image my eye could see, rather than being so dark it was hard to make out details.
That's when I came to the concusion there are different cameras or the same camera with different variances.
I could adjust the exposure in the dark camera to the highest level and get about 75% of the brightness of the bright camera, but never as bright. By bright, I just mean you can make out the details in the scene.
It seems to be more of bug though because it's also doing it on sphere & panoramic modes too, it's like it's automatically setting the exposure to -2 when your under unnatural light. The setting shouldn't be any different to camera still mode as all it does is stitch multiple stills together.

I went back and tested my camera in more depth.
When I turn on video mode, it ignores any exposure setting. Is it possible you have exposure turned up (not necessarily by your own doing) in the camera mode and when you switch to video, it doesn't honor the exposure?
Basically what I'm asking is, rather than video mode being dark, is it possible video mode is "normal", ie no adjustments to exposure, and camera mode has exposure upped up, possibly some change/fix that was made to account for an overly dark camera?
I know this makes no "effective" difference to you, but might explain why it behaves differently in camera and video/stitch/etc. mode.
Sometimes it also goes redish dark in picture / still mode too but that can be fixed by pressing home and then returning to it via recents, you can hear the shutter or lens reset.
4.4 gives a slight improvement, it's lighter now hopefully with another tweaked update it'll be fixed.
So here it is an app with witch i personally experience batter camera performance..
-Download this app from PlayStore
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maartendekkers.cmapp
- Install CameraNext from app..
- Open Camera app and in the settings set focus to Continous picture..
try it and post here your feedback..if you like it push Tnx
Looks good. Respond is pretty smooth and fast.
However, panoramic mode doesn't work and crashed. But still happy with other features.
Do you have any idea on how i can make this camera app default camera app for T2? Like sliding on the camera icon in lock screen will open this app. My unit is rooted. Thanks.

no,no..its also broken... i didnt find out for now any custom camera app wich is fast and have working panarama..
I also use another app. " A Better Camera" form Playstore
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.almalence.opencam_plus
The camera is pretty fast and panorama mode works quite decently. Do check it out.
Fold 3 have customize aspect ration for individual app like 16:9 etc but i cant find the same option in labs on fold 4
Anyone have a work around for this issue?
It's in the normal settings now. It should say that in Labs
If I may ask, what apps do you have the aspect ratio set for? And to what?
I pretty much have all app set to fullscreen. Except instagram which i think is a 4:3 native
