Custom ROM Banking Apps - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

Sorry if this is a n00b question
If I unlock my bootloader and install a custom rom I can still use banking apps so long as its not rooted?? Or will the fact that the bootloader is unlocked stop the banking apps working?
I'm currently stuck on P2a42_S251_171107_ROW and would like to upgrade
Thanks

I'm using LineageOS 15.1 and rooted with Magisk.
All banking apps and Android pay etc work fine.

What Magisk are you using, I have unlocked my bootloader and installed Lineage 15.1 and SU but Magisk fails to install due to the vendor partition?
thanks

Are you using the TWRP version from the Lineage wiki? It has treble support etc.
Using Magisk 17.2 beta.

Can anyone help me to clarify my questions ( All based on custom ROM )
1. Fast charging will work on custom ROM or not ?
2. Volte & Vilte will work or not ?
3. Custom ROM will damage battery life or not ?

I can only answer your first question, because my operator doesn't offer VoLTE, but according to comments on the custom rom that I'm using (Xtended version 10) it seems to be working. Screen-on time is now over 3hrs and I have 3,5 days to go, last charge was about 3,5 days ago. So the battery lasts over a week in my situation, which is/was a little better than on the stock rom from that day, about 2 years ago.
Fast charging is working on this custom rom, yes
Ow, and OP, I have a custom rom as you can read above , my P2 is rooted, also with Magisk, and no problem at all with my banking app; it doesn't even notice me that I'm on a custom rom.

With Lineage 15.1 and sensible apps/settings/general user behaviour, the standby time is fine. Adding in rooting/tweaking it feels like it is better than before (Android 6).
However, I am still troubleshooting what appears to be 30+% reduced screen-on time and high system process power usage with/without rooting.

Everything has its benefits and downsides.
But overall I have better sot and also much less lagg.
I'm having 15hours of sot.
Or 9-10hours with light usage.

New to Android - Which ROM should I use?

I was WP/iOS user and recently switched to Android. Just got my OP3, which is my first Android device. I am wondering, which custom ROM should I get. I kinda need more battery life and SOT so I want to ditch the OOS.
Do note that I have literally 0 use for fingerprint scanner, android pay and camera (well, not fully but any mediocre quality camera/pictures will work).
Also, I would appreciate if there is any guide or video tutorial, showing the whole process of custom ROM installation.
I would recommend Cyanogenmod 13.0 with Elemental X kernel.
Here is a tutorial to unlock bootloader and install TWRP Recovery

And here is a tutorial on how to install Cyanogenmod 13.0

OOS is a great near-stock rom tbh, but if you still want to try another I'd recommend Sultan's CM
Would recommend you to stay with stock as you may feel all this tweaking thing a bit laggy (coming from iOS , which doesn't let you even customize properly) but for sake of having the taste of tweaking :
Its a 2 part step
1) Unlocking bootloader , installing TWRP , backing up your data (as this will completely wipe out your phone) including whats app (using google drive built-in feature) and messages (using "SMS back up and restore" available in Play Store) . Avoid using links provided in video discriptions

TWRP Recovery : https://dl.twrp.me/oneplus3/twrp-3.0.2-1-oneplus3.img.html
2 ) Installing Custom Rom close to stock with patched Kernal would be better for you to address battery and SOT issue and lot of audio mods , I would suggest freedom OS 1.6 CE ,

I'd say OOS on stock has the best battery. If you want some rock hard stability along with battery, go for ElementalX kernel on OOS. If you dont want OOS so badly, then go for sultanxda s rom.

I've never been interested in securing my phone and thought I would not use the FP scanner but found it is the quickest and easiest way to unlock the phone so I use and love it now. Just a quick press and the phone is ready to go instead of a double-tap + swipe etc. I suggest you get familiar with OOS for a while before you jump.
Resurrection Remix Blackjubel is great
There es elementalx Kernel preinstalled
It's smooth and stable and battery life is also good.
And you have many in build Features so you don't have to install xposed.

Just at OOS, just root it, install Xposed and use Amplify and Greenify. It'll boost your SOT a lot. Also don't use Chrome browser. It drains battery a lot.
No one can tell you what the best custom ROM for you is as everyone's preferences vary, my advice stick to stock for now . SOT will improve over the first week of usage and you need to get to know the device / OS before choosing a rom to mitigate any perceived weaknesses. Take your time assessing new roms, as I said SOT will take about a week to stabilise. Above all enjoy yourself it only takes a few minutes to flash a new rom do why not try them all.
New to android?
Then start reading, you have a hell lot of things to learn, don't blindly jump into what random users says is good, laziness will damage your phone and diminish your trust in Android

Required : Opinions for Pixel Experience Rom

Hello Guys, I just bought a Lenovo Z2 Plus and wanted to install a custom rom on it. I did my thorough research through XDA and Youtube about various OREO based custom roms available for this phone. I like the Pixel Experience Rom but I am a newbie in flashing custom roms. I read in few threads about network connectivity issues in the Pixel Experience Rom and Resurrection Remix rom as well. In few of the youtube videos, I saw that the battery backup and Antutu score of Pixel Experience rom is marginally lower when compared to Resurrection Remix.
Can you guys give me your opinion on which rom should I install on my stock device. Kindly please provide the respective rom's Antutu Benchmark scores and Screen On Time especially for the Pixel Experience Rom. Please guide me about the bootloader unlocking and TRWP installation process as well. The last time I did all these was 2 years ago so kindly help me.
Thanks.
I have tried the PE (Pixel Exp) ROM and here my observations on that.
The Good
Extremely fluid. Performance is mind blowing. I have tried 3 Custom ROM so far (AEX, RR, PE) and PE felt the best performing in terms day to day device usage. Feels like PE is meant for Z2 Plus and vise versa. Everything works out of the box, GApps are preloaded, ROM is simple but very effective. All sensors, every piece of hardware included in the phone works perfectly. I never felt it was a custom rom, felt like meant for Z2 Plus.
The Bad
Not just just pixel, this is present in all Custom ROM for me and my device. I am from India, and using Reliance Jio VoLTE.
Now the problem is network reception isn't as good as stock ZUI.
The 2.4GHz WiFi got limited to 72 mbps only. Stock ZUI has no problem, tried changing few ROMs and finally settled with AEX which I see can connect to 2.4GHz WiFi and 150 mbps. I have tried baseband 1.76 (ZUI 2.5.104 ST India) and baseband 1.70 (Latest) for ZUI 3.5.3xx China. Nothing seems to help. Out of 4 ROM, Stock ZUI (2.5/3.5), PE, RR, AEX, only ZUI and AEX are able to give me a 150 mbps wifi link speed.
Now regarding the VoLTE reception. VoLTE works fine but network is fluctuating like hell. For me, the same is present in all three custom rom I have tried. AEX, RR, PE. Tried baseband 1.70/1.76 but couldn't solve it. There are no call drops but network isn't stable at all. Tested with Reliance Jio NetVelocity app for detailed information and it seems with none of the Custom ROM, Phone is able to sustain a stable 2300 MHz link. Falls back to 1800 MHz and 850 MHz randomly. Network speed wasn't bad, infact I would say satisfactory.
Only ZUI seems to have a stable Jio reception for me.
The Ugly
Battery issue. SOT is similar with 3 roms I have tried. PE/RR/AEX but something under PE is causing serious battery drain while idle. Overnight the phone is losing 2.5% to 3% battery per hour. I have tested to different custom kernel. AR-Beast and Heliox v2.0 with PE. Liked AR-Beast better as Heliox would underclock the CPU/GPU. Now with AR-Beast the idle battery drain came down to just around 1% per hour but still higher than default Resurrection Remix (RR ROM) or AEX ROM.
Presently using AEX ROM without any extra modification. Performance isnt as fuild as Pixel ROM but less problematic than others. Infact only ROM allowing me a 150mbps WiFi link speed.
Please guide me about the bootloader unlocking and TRWP installation process as well. The last time I did all these was 2 years ago so kindly help me.

Follow this guide to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP. Then installation processor of ROM will depend on which ROM you select. Note, there are two different ROM type now. 1. Full Treble 2. Non Treble. Installation process are different for them.
Pixel is a non treble ROM. Like 2 years ago, you would feel similar setup process.
If you chose Pixel, after you have unlocked and got TWRP installed,
1. download PE ROM
2. boot into TWRP
3. Wipe system, data, cache, dalvik
4. Flash ROM
5. Wipe Cache
6. Reboot
If all went ok, frist boot will take a few minutes and you will be asked to setup your Google Account under Pixel Exp ROM.
Remember, I am not an expert so wait for others to comment and guide you !! Just sharing from my personal experience !!
Good luck.

You need the NON-TREBLE new trees for PE ROM
Now as I said I am no expert so I dont know if one should flash kernel at one go. I can only tell you what I did.
First I did the PE. Setup the phone and used it for 20 odd minutes while setting up all the things. Then I went on to flash the AR-Beast. Some one suggested me not not turn on the phone immediately after kernel flash. Rather power off from TWRP wait for 10 mins before switch on. I don't know if it is required or not, but I have followed that advice.
Thanks.
@4tanmoy
One small mistake from my end. PE ROM comes with GApps included. So when you flash PE ROM, you don't need to Flash GApps again.

Yes, I did some more research. Flashed PE with UberCool.
After Setup, I flashed AR Kernal and SuperSu.
Installed Google Camera Mod for HDR+ and Potrait Modes.
Flashed Dialer Fix to resolve the dialer problem as it showed that phone is not supported when launching dialer. now fixed.
The PE ui is butter smooth, phone doesnot heats anymore. Charged last night till 100 % and browsed youtube, downloaded my preferred apps from play store, browsed quora for 30 mins, took some pictures. In the morning I played subway surfers, clash royal, some web browsing, downloaded all remaining apps for my phone. The battery is now 59% while I typing this from the phone.
Overall, I am astonished by the PE smoothness and completely satisfied by the battery life.
Excellent !!
Could you please check two things, how is the battery drainage overnight? While phone is idle.
Secondly, what is the WiFi Link speed?
Basically, two of my main problems lol

the wifi link speed is 72 mbps and about battery drainage overnight, i'll post tomorrow morning
regarding battery drain, I slept at 02:40 at night at 21 %. Woke up at 08:15 at 17 %. I guess 1% per hour. I am getting a Stand By time of 20+ hours and Screen On Time of more than 5 hours 30 minutes approximately.

Your data is very similar to what I have experienced with Pixel ROM.
This drainage is one of the issue for which I had to move out of Pixel ROM
Excellent review, I too installed PE and is enjoying every bit of Pixel, but the main problem I am facing is ,my phone's all sensors are dead or not working has tried Zuk Official too The nougat Indian and The Oreo Chinese version, but without any luck proximity gyroscope pedometer and other sensors are not working,
Would like ask someone from the forum to please help me to fix the isaue, as far as Custom rom in Zuk 2 I will stick to Pixel as it is the best till now what ever I have used . I have TWRP installed has flashed sensor.zip available in the Zuk Forum but nothing seems to work.
Waiting for a reply from the forum members it they take out sometime to help a man is distress.

Its a clear sign that something wrong with the hardware.
Do you have warranty left ?
If you do, QFIL 1.9 then flash 2.5 Indian ROM. Everything will be bone stock with locked bootloader and stock recovery. Go and claim warranty !!

How is the audio clarity and quality when compared to the stock ROM? I have stopped flashing any custom ROMs - be it Oreo or Pie just because of this issue. Also, could you please share the full camera version that you are currently using - is that without the Portrait mode? Also, how much screen-on time are you getting?
Hello there... this post got my interest too. I have jumped back and forth between stock and custom. It is sad "for me" that it seems most devs have given up on supporting / maintaining Oreo 8.1. Everyone is trying to iron out the bugs in a Pie custom... however, I simply want the stability to be there... especially with the camera features and battery life. I am not a gamer either, btw. With all of that said, I have a question or two please.
1. Why did you quote using an older version of Magisk? Is there a compatibility thing that I should be aware of?
2. With the Gcam mod you referenced, does stability work smoothly while recording video? I have found that in many custom builds the stability mode can be jerky and no too smooth.
TIA

Mokee rom 9.0 !? Fastest smoother rom

I have tested the official nightly mokee rom 9.0 for mi 6. This seem to be based on lineage os( it's almost identical) but it is so much smoother. For now it's the fastest and smoother custom ROM ever tested in my life. About stability and battery I don't know because I use only 3 days.. seem to be good but it's recommended official recovery and official website gapps. Even the gaming is outstanding. The touch latency is so low and has lot of free ram. I tested also on S4. Lineage os official lag compared mokee .
Any reviews would be appreciated thanks

SElinux works in the basis that it will only allow predefined activities to be run on the system. So like fingerprint activities is common. To be enforcing the developer has to define all of these rules. Tedious and time consuming they have to do it last and it takes a while.
Permissive or disabled just means any activity can run.
Its not as safe as enforcing. But if you use root then arguably you defeat the point of enforcing anyway...
Don't worry about it unless your phone needs to be 100% secure... In which case you should be using stock MIUI anyway
Permissive is the same as disabled except it's is logging right?
Well that's true actually.. having a rootet custom rom might not be super secure anyway... lol
I have checked that @xiaobai112220 still maintain sagit repo on github
sounds promising

Best custom rom for Mi A2 lite

2.Which is the fastest, smoothie, well optimised(ram management aslo) custom rom for Mi A2 lite?
Please help me and thanks in advance.
I went through several custom ROMs and ended at Android 10 crDroid. Even though most custom ROM devs now switched to Android 11 (R) development, from my experience the R ROMs are still too new and too buggy for daily use. A custom ROM probably won't help you save much battery, but for RAM management, you'll see massive improvements given how terrible it is on stock.

Even though most custom ROM devs now switched to Android 11 (R) development, from my experience the R ROMs are still too new and too buggy for daily use. A custom ROM probably won't help you save much battery, but for RAM management, you'll see massive improvements given how terrible it is on stock.

How different is the battery life on custom ROMs in comparison to stock?

I don't have exact measurements, but it feels about the same on the one I'm using.

This GCam: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-the_dise/f/dl0/
Remember to enable HAL3 in Settings - System - Camera HAL Switch. Also portrait mode (the blurry background thing) and HDR+ don't work on selfie camera, so you have to disable them before taking selfies. Everything else works well.
Thank you so much
Syberia os
fast system, but it has its own problems as in other custom firmwares. As I understand it, no custom firmware developer is able to fix some bugs due to the fact that some bugs are found on absolutely all firmware for several versions of android in a row.

I used Android 10 crDroid. More than often the bottom navigation bar became unresponsive. Real show stopper for me.
What's the situation now? I realised that the phone is no longer getting security updates which is not great. I haven't flashed custom in years, but I remember it was a bother to get banking apps working. Is it still a problem? What's the most reliable and secure custom out there?

Almost all of the custom ROM available for Mi A2 lite is very stable and bugless. Ram management was never a problem in custom ROMs and battery life provided by customs is very near to stock ROM ( keep in mind the battery is very old).
Banking apps should work fine. But it also depends upon the app itself. You can pass safety net and app requiring only safety net should work fine.

Do you need Magisk for safety net? I remember I had to do that with my old LG G4.
Which of ROMs is best when it comes to security updates?

For some ROMs you don't need magisk and for some you do. Almost all the ROMs for daisy are up-to-date and receive monthly updates.

I know I'm being a pain, but which one, considering my questions, would you recommend?
Thanks

There isn't a "best", your experience will determine which is the best for you. I have tried POSP, arrow, crDroid 7 and all of them are very stable and up-to-date. They differ only in customizations and such. Search what do you want and see the specific features of each ROM.
Battery life and stability cannot be compared across users and different ROMs. You can choose any one of the ROMs, all of then are very good for daily usage.

Have you been able to get Android Auto running on any of those ROM's? I tried a couple of ROM's a year ago but AA never worked except on stock (which is no longer updated as we know).

I've found unofficial LOS 18.1 the most stable. Almost no issues.
