should i RMA my verizon unlocked bootloader - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I have an issue where I have a not so big but noticeable black dot on the left side of my screen, phone works perfect but I also have an issue with my camera creating a wave effect when I use it. I replaced the black glass on the back due to a crack it got when it fell but since then the cameras been funky..now, Google told me I can send it back but since I have no guarantee I'm getting an unlockable bootloader should I do it? Or just keep my phone.

Here's an image

I would. That spot would drive me crazy! If your current phone is the google version (unlockable) then that's what you should get back. Albeit it will likely be a refurb.

[Q] finicky power button

So my Inc has a weird power button issue. If I slightly touch the button it acts as though I pushed it. My screen comes on a lot due to it.
Ive tried using compressedair to clean out the button area but that's no good. Any way I can fix this without cracking it open?

find a case that covers the button and makes it harder to push like a silicon case?
did you ever spill a liquid on the phone?

No spills, I just seems to bewearing out. I have a couple of cases but neither really help.
It actually seems to work better if I slightly touch it and not physically push it.

I still have it under warranty with best buy. Should I just go get a new phone? I'm not gonna void my warranty and still pay for it.

if you still have a warranty then i would see what they can do for you. i dont think they will have an Inc for you they might have you upgrade to a device that is the same value. i would talk to them. cant hurt right?

Yep black tie coverage. Thats what I decided, I went and waited at best buy for 3 hours today and wound up with a crappy loaner phone (LG Vortex 2.2.2).
Hopefully in a few days I will get the faux upgrade but it is entirely possible that Ill just get a refurb inc.
I will miss the Inc if they don't get me another one.

I lost my C, anyway to replace it?

So basically I've lost the C from the back of my HTC. The T came off as well but I stuck it back on. Anyway I could replace it?

Try sending it back to HTC for repair?
Duck tap and some spit should get the job done.
I kid... As said above; try calling HTC.

don't see the problem, its a hardware defect and it doesn't matter how big the issue is. from a failing volume button to a cosmetic letter falling off. Warranty = warranty and should support any kind of problem.....including a simple letter falling off.

Spending most likely several weeks without your phone so they can glue a letter on teh back seems like overkill to me, but hey, if you're THAT principled.

its not about principles and its not about me, its about personal preference. if the OP chooses that road then let him. he's in his rights. who are we to judge that ?
but i see all of this will get out of hand soon i guess..... time for me to stop posting again.
OP good luck on getting the C back. whatever you choose to do i hope it will feed your needs.

SOrry if you took that as an attack, I meant if ONE is that principled, not specifically you. Warrantying something like that seems purely something one would do on principle.

well i don't really agree, its cosmetic and small i agree there. is the phone damaged so it doesn't do its job.....no also not the issue. but a person can expect, seeing the high cost of the device that it would be flawless. of course bad things can happen but getting it fixed under warranty should not be a problem.
in fact when the user wants to re sell the device its worth more with all the letters complete. not talking about the letter itself now exactly but seeing the device in a 100% completeness is much better for the seller in the end, and when he/she can do that under warranty it might help the seller in the end to drag a bit more money out of the deal.
hope i made my point clear in a nice way as intended.
same thing happen to me..
I just pealed off "h" and "t" and cleaned off the glue.. now it looks as slick as ever xD
I decided to just leave it as it is. I can't be bothered with sending it back just for a letter lol. Really the only reason it bothers me is in case I want to sell it, but that won't be for a while yet!
I'll wait and see what happens.
Pick off the other letters, then colour the spaces in with a permanent marker or a little bit of nail polish.. I doubt anyone is going to look close enough to notice (or if they do.. I'm sure 99% of people aren't going to care, as long as you aren't trying to palm it off as being new..)

Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Updated to Lollipop. Mic-1 not working.

Hi
I'm running an international unlocked M8. just got it from the service repair center for a battery-related repair. Immediately upgraded it to OTA Lollipop. The microphone isn't working. Google Now & Phone calls just pick up static. Speaker phone works fine. Tried cleaning the grill to no avail. Tried factory reset. Nothing.
Do you think this is related to Lollipop? Can I count on an update to follow to solve this? Because I would really hate to send it back to the service center.
Thanks :fingers-crossed:
I would recommend you to try install the previous version you got and if the problem still exists then sorry mate but you have to send it back.
I know it sucks! :/
I guess there's no way to avoid it. Phone's going back not even one day after I got it back I was hoping it was a widespread software issue that would get a speedy patch but seems like it's not. Thanks for the reply.

I'd not only send it back, but I would also let them know that you are angry about it. They obviously sent you something that was sent in to them and refurbished. Tell them you want a NEW phone.

And yes they did send me the same phone I sent to be repaired. It even has the decal I put on the back. And you can see a small indentation from where they opened it up, and the screen is veeeeeery slightly wobbly when I touch it in a corner.
They told me they don't do replacements unless it is wholly beyond repair. Usually the carrier does that but I got this off contract. Though I have heard informally after the third repair they will just send a new one.
I really admire you for your strength . And I would love for this to be a tale of righteous customer overcoming the evil customer support. In my experience the person behind the desk just doesn't care and will only take it out on you if you disrespect him. Whereas being cordial seems to garner astonishment "wow he actually treats me like I am human". I've tried being angry and I've tried being kind.
Thank you very much for your reply.

Uh Oh protection on rooted device? Wanted some info before rooting.

Just wondering if anyone has used their uh oh protection on a rooted device if they give you any hassle about it? I know on the M8 people said they did but wondering if it was any different on the m9. I don't plan on breaking my screen but you never know.

HTC stated in a Q and A that Uh Oh still applies to phones that are rooted or have custom ROMs. I think the only exception would be if you overlocked your CPU and fried it.

If it's fried, how would any one know it was overclocked? I just saying... If your phone is dead on the water, they would just replace it no question ask. That's how I understand it.

Yeah that's probably the case but you never know.
I was soffed and unlocked so will find out soon....
I contacted them today because my charging port is loose and it only charged when it wants to. They told me I have to pay to have it fixed because my phone and is rooted.
1. How did they know this ?
2. How does rooting break a charging port ?
3. What happened to no questions asked, we will replace your phone no matter what the problem is ?

I would ask to speak to someone in sales support and ask about the Uh-oh coverage. Because I read that Uh-oh would replace rooted phones. Also my understanding is that a phone is sent out to replace your phone, and you send your broken one back once you get your new phone.

That's what I thought. Its odd for a company that helps you unlock your phone, especially when they know by doing that you can pretty much do anything with it. Then turn around and say no cause your rooted

Are you in the US? I think uh oh is only for US residents. nevermind...I see Iowa now
If so, I'd try a different cs rep. Sounds like that person was just being difficult. Did the phone drop or something? I'd probably not be too thrilled about using my uh oh protection for something that wasn't physically damaged by me.

Not sure what is wrong. All I know is that you have to wiggle the cord just right to get it to charge. Ive tried multiple charging cords and get the same result. Its getting to the point to where its getting ready to stop charging
I would try someone else. My M7 was htcdev unlocked (likely how they know in your case), rooted, and s-off, and they still replaced the camera a couple of months ago because of the pink tint issue with no questions asked, even though it was two years old.

In this Q&A session with Jason Mackenzie he DIRECTLY says that unlocked/rooted will be covered by uh oh, so whoever you spoke with didn't know what you were talking about or didn't think you were trying to use uh oh.
http://www.htc.com/us/uh-oh/
Go to ~19:50 for the question about unlocked/rooted.

I did use the uh oh site. I think the lady online was just being pissy.
My second attempt didn't go well.
They said to get uh oh protection I needed to have $599 secured on my card. My card only allows up to $300.
I said, well the second option on your website said you can mail a prepaid mail and I can send the old phone first and they can send me the new once they get the old one. She said no we can't do that, that deal is only for cracked screen or if it was dropped in water

The hold on the CC is legit, to me. It's not like a carrier exchange where your carrier can just bill you if you don't send your device back. HTC doesn't really have any protection against people not returning the device without a cc number.
But them not letting you send yours back first makes no sense at all. I'd ask for a manager.
Or, have you tried your carrier? I'm AT&T and if you take it to a repair center they're usually pretty good about swapping out defective devices.
I would love to know more about uh-oh protection as well. There's a lot of fine print and somewhere it says some along the lines that they'll only replace a phone damaged by normal use. That can be interpreted many different ways. Then I kinda got the feeling that all they replace is broken screen, water damage or carrier replacement. Also if I bought the phone off of eBay is it still covered?
Personally my plan is to run this beast into the ground and then right before my year is up I'll probably uh oh it in my pool and get a brand new phone so I can sell it and buy an upgrade..lol.

Well, if you don't use it you get $100 towards your next phone...so consider that
If I can keep this one in pristine condition and HTC comes out with a new beast that can compete with the market than I might use the $100 trade. But if this thing is toast and another company makes something that makes me drool than in the pool this one goes..lol.

Try some burn-in fix apps from google play, and leave them overnight.
Last solution would be replacing the oled panel.

Lol let's start by saying that you got an device with a factory problem and it's seller refuse to five you your money back... that's really bad! You have to do something about it. If you can't do what the guy said before. Download a burn-in app, it can't get worse, can it?
