Unable to Restore and Setup from a Google cloud backup - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Trying to setup my Mi A2 Lite. My android backup from my other phone is not listed as an option to restore. All backups are current on Google drive. The issue is that the option to select my current phone to restore to the Mi A2 Lite is not available during the initial setup process. I'm having the identical issue to a user who clearly described the problem in a Google drive support forum. No resolution noted from what I can tell. Has anyone run into issues trying to restore a backup but finding it is not listed as an option?

Nope, just regular apps, like Google Chrome!
R: Titanium Backup, restoring elements failed?
Try to restore one by one.
Bach(multiple) restore doesn't work for system apps in my phone.

I have had this frustrating and once perplexing issue several times. I now know what the issue is and how to fix it.
("Market Link" is the term TB uses for The Play Store)
The Issue is that the "Market Link" that Titanium Backup uses to "restore" the app (non system downloaded from The Market) is "broken" The "Market Link" TB saved doesn't match your phone's Android I.D.#..
Allot of times after flashing (or OTA) a Rom your Android I.D.# will change. TB will even ask you if you want to use the new one or keep the old one..
TB does not make a "nanadroid type" of backup for an App to be backed up. What it does is copy the Apps "Market Link" so that when you "restore" the App TB DOWNLOADS the App and INSTALLS the App with a "FRESH" download of it..
THE FIX;
1) Uninstall TB and its Pro Key if you have one. Settings> Application Manager> Clear Data in both the TB app and Key> Uninstall.
2) Delete the Titanium Backup folder that is on your phone's Internal (root) sdcard. (You don't want to simply just download and install TB again because it will use this same "corrupt" backup folder)
I rebooted after this.
3) Clear Data and Cache in the Play Store Application and Google Play Services. Settings> Application Manager> All> Google Play Store and Google Play Services.
Now back completely out of the settings menu and open the Play Store Application. Accept Terms. Download Titanium Backup and Pro Key if you have one. Open Titanium Backup and make a backup of all your User and System apps.
You now have a complete backup with the correct Market Links associated with your current Android I.D. Titanium Backup will now work as intended! ..

Thanks for this post and sorry for the dead thread revival but I have a question.
I'm experiencing this exact scenario, except... now I have cleared all the data and caches etc, I want to restore the backed up app data that I took before switching OS! If I clear Play Store & Play Services data and cache, reinstall TiBu and take a complete backup... Then I'll just have a couple of apps, and no data! Do you mean to copy the previous backup files onto the phone afterwards and then try to restore again?
I am having the exact same problem right now . I need to restore the old backup . can you please help
I have very strange issue here. I am using Whatsapp since 2013. I am using it on same number although that number is not with me anymore and I cannot have it also. So I am using it just the way it is. I changed my phone from Sony Xperia C to LG Optimus L90 to OnePlus 2 to Redmi Note 5 Pro to Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 to Redmi Note 7 Pro. Every time whatsapp restore worked well. I do format and clean install new version of custom ROM. Everytime, I backed up whatsapp and restored it after install and it worked.
Only this time when I decided to move from Redmi Note 7 pro to Redmi Note 8 pro, it failed unexpectedly.
Not only app, it failed to restore even data.
Now this Redmi Note 8 pro has Android 11 and all my previous phones were having till Android 10. Is this the issue?
Where should I check the logs? and How to correct this?

I flashed ResurrectionRemix based on Android 10 on Redmi Note 8 Pro and Whatsapp restore worked well.
Now since Redmi Note 8 pro crashed and I moved back to Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 and was working fine. I am using ResurrectionRemix based on Android 10 on Asus.
Yesterday when I tried to flash Spark ROM based on Android 11 on Asus, Whatsapp restored again failed. Same issue which I faced while switching to Redmi Note 8 pro.
I think Android 10 backup cant be restored to Android 11.
I havent tried to restore other backup (taken on Android 10) to Android 11 so cant confirm that.
I have raised this on Titanium Backup official Site and logged a complaint but no acknowledgement even after 3 months.

I don't think, seedvaut has an interface to Google backup. And you can only use it, if it is integrated in your current OS. If you intend to stay with Google, use Google backup. If you go noGApps, its better to manually setup, anyway.

If you use lineageOS with GApps, you setup with your Google account. That will automatically install your apps. Google backup is probably part of your current OS. Make sure to have it enabled.

@letrain02, did you find out anything more about SeedVault?
I've searched online and can't find any documentation to speak of, and haven't managed to find out how to use it by trial and error. It's easy to switch between Google and SeedVault in Settings, but not at all clear how to restore SV backups. No manual 'restore' option in Settings, and LOS doesn't offer to find and restore an SV backup on first boot of a reset / reflashed system (although SV is now the default backup service).
I can confirm, though, that if you've installed gapps it still goes through the standard Google setup on first boot, including asking if you want to restore a backup. SV being the default backup service doesn't affect that.

Well that's good for migrating to seedvault. I know you can store seedvault to a next cloud account, or file and save it to usb. Im not sure how it would restore without gapps.

Google's setup will only restore a Google backup, of course. How to restore a SV backup remains a mystery to me.
You can save SV backups to NextCloud, USB OTG storage, internal storage, or microSD card. Backups are stored in a hidden folder .SeedVaultAndroidBackup at the top level of the chosen storage device. If you choose the microSD card, it warns that this is 'internal storage' (even if it's 'portable' storage) and won't be available if you're rebuilding the device ... which isn't true.
Some good news! I found a useful piece of information in https://forum.fairphone.com/t/has-anyone-tried-seedvault-backup-with-lineage-17/62481/8 - how to manually run SeedVault's restore process. It works!
Code:
adb shell am start -n com.stevesoltys.seedvault/.restore.RestoreActivity
Shortly after posting that last message, I re-flashed a LineageOS device that'd had SeedVault active as the backup service, and accepted LOS's offer to restore from backup. It ran SeedVault Restore and restored successfully. So in that sense it works much like restoring a Google backup.
Entering a 12-word encryption key is a bit of a pain, but is still a lot easier than manually reconfiguring the device - and as a bonus, you can run / re-run the restore manually, which is either impossible or very difficult to do with Google backups.
Note that SeedVault never re-uses an encryption code. When you enable / re-enable SeedVault backups it creates a new code. It doesn't seem to be possible to set the code manually.

Just because it took me some time to und erstand: you connect your device to a computer and run the command via USB. This triggers a programm start in the device. You can then unplug from the computer and connect the USB stick with the Backup.

Fairphone 4 with /e/ OS; restore WhatsApp backup shows 0kb and date of 01/01/1970

Hi,
I've bought the Murena Fairphone 4, which is basically the Fairphone 4 but with /e/ OS pre-installed.
I first tried to restore the backups by connecting my Google Drive account, but I saw it didn't work with MicroG, and I also read on the internet that MicroG doesn't support the backup of WhatsApp on Google Drive.
Anyway, I still wanted to restore my WhatsApp chats, so I copied the backup files (from /WhatsApp/Databases and /WhatsApp/Backups) from my old phone (Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 with Android 8) and I moved them to my new Fairphone (with Android 11, to /Android/Media/com.whatsapp/Databases and /Android/Media/com.whatsapp/Backup).
When I started WhatsApp, it said that it had detected the back-up, however it was 0kb and it was from 1970.
Nevertheless, I clicked on 'restore' and hoped for the best, but to no avail... it said it couldn't restore the backup...
I don't know how to fix this... I'm suspecting it may have something to do with the customized /e/ OS and/or the Android version difference (from 8 to 11).
Luckily, I can still access my WhatsApp chats on my old phone, as the backup are on my Google Drive account, and they're still locally somewhere on my old phone, so no data is lost.
But I still want to move the chats to my new phone...
Does anyone know a solution to this?

Question Sideloaded Android 13 and no backup found? Any solution?

I've had backups going on my Pixel 2XL for 4 years and Pixel 6 Pro for the past year. I've done so many factory resets and it always showed a backup under my account. Today I sideloaded A13. Worked perfectly. I factory reset maybe even 4 months ago. I decided to do a factory reset for a clean start. And bam, no backup found under my account. Was this user error? I can manually restore it but it sucks losing my text threads and I'm scared this might happen again. I'm in contact with Google support but they are useless.
open Google drive app. click menu, backups. should be a backup listed. if not, it's been deleted.
Adding my 0.02 here.
I've used Google backup and restore many times over the years and frequently SMS & Calls Logs have not been backed up and/or restored properly.
There used to be a way to trigger the restore UI via ADB but that appears to be patched.
I now rely on Google backup for my apps / contacts
And SMS Backup and Restore running daily taking a copy of my SMS & Call Logs.
Check for a backup from your PC. Go to Google Drive > Sotrage > Backups
That will list them all, if you have any.

Yea it's gone. Had the phone backed up for 5 years and now upgrade to A13, factory reset and it's gone. I want to fully love google but this is one of those insane moments where I absolutely hate them. A reason I always backup everything manually and don't rely on them. Even now with my fresh perfect smooth installation, the phone still hasn't backup up automatically overnight when idle like it says it's supposed to.

Yea it's gone. NOOO idea why. At one point my lower tier Drive ran out of storage so I upgraded to Google One 2TB and wondering if I changed a setting or something causing it to delete the backup. I'm trying to recreate one from scratch now
