Hi,
I suddenly developed an issue a few weeks ago where the data connection will, apparently randomly, turn itself on. I haven't ever been lucky enough to catch it right when the data comes on, and when I check task manager I don't see any applications running to cause it. I am thinking I either inherited a virus at some point, or an application that is attempting to update itself or something. But I haven't installed anything for months so it could be any old program. I checked scheduled tasks but don't see anything there.
I have done 'the usual' of making sure weather, stocks, email are not causing it.
What I am wondering is if there is an application out there that will log my activity so I can see what services or applications ran that day.
Many thanks in advance for any help or ideas.
Check to see if AGPS is on -- I've noticed with some GPS apps (CoPilot Live, Google Maps) that if AGPS is on, turning on the GPS will initiate a data connection. If that's the issue, turning AGPS off should take care of it.
Thanks for the AGPS suggestion. I do use QuickGPS, but have it set to prompt, not to auto download (but it does start a data connection when I do use it, and it doesn't turn it off when it's done). So, I don't think that's the problem in my case, but I appreciate the reply.
Loving the phone so far. However, upon each reboot, it asks me to agree to letting Google track my whereabouts. It says ""Allow Google's location service to collect anonymous location data..." Of course, I have disagreed every time, but it keeps asking. How can I disable that.
Also, I use Llama to turn off mobile data while I am in range of various wireless access points. However, it keeps warning me about that, saying "Your mobile data connection is turned off. Unless you use WiFi, you will not be able to use the internet, email, or other apps...." Is there anyway to disable the pop-up/warning?
And last, how can I replace the weather and time widget on the lock screen, and replace it with something else?
Kindly
Michael
Did you ever find a solution to this issue? I'm experiencing the same thing using Tasker to regulate data on/off.
Hi everyone
I just updated to KitKat B510, NEEurope version. The problem is, that whatever I receive, a whatapp message, an email, the notification wont pop-up (no sound, no nothing), until I unlock the phone.
I don't think it's a WiFi problem (or it might be, it is set to "always keep WiFi on"), because when I unlock the phone, the network is ok, everything is connected.
Please, an advice?
Had the same problem occuring sometimes. Mine had a log of lost network. I dont know if there is a fix. Try factory reset and if that wont help flash b510 again. If its still present, revert to b132.
Thank you. I didn't see the network to drop, I think there is a problem with the sleeping setting.
I made some changes, I changed the profile to normal battery consumption, not smart or ultra battery.
The second was to uncheck WiFi optimization, in settings wifi-> options-> advanced.
Let's see how it goes from now on.

You did the right steps. It should be fine now.
Thank you. It works, and not so much.
For instance, I have to open facebook after restart, so I can receive notifications (it is set to on at startup manager, it is set to run when screen is off etc.).
But the worst problem is that it doesn't reconnect automatically to known networks. For instance, I come home, my previous phone was reconnecting automatically to my home wifi network, but the P6 not.
I had to go to settings->wifi and then it reconnected (without doing anything more).
Any idea?

Yes. Restore to factory settings.
I'll try that, again, thank you.
But I just did it yesterday, when I reistalled B510.
Didn't work. I wiped everything and still it does the same.
Wi-Fi does not automatically connect to networks whose configurations were already saved. I have to take it to waranty, I don't know what to do more.
Does it work on b132? Mine did that sometimes too on b510. It didnt connect automatically. The avaivable network list came up and had to choose one manually. It remembered passwords.
Im not sure but I think that happened only when connecting to a different wifi than the one used before.
I didn't use it that much on B132, I made the update as soon as I bought it.
It is normal not to connect to a new network, but it's not normal not to connect to a previous used network, known network, for instance at home.
Maybe I'll upgrade to 4.4.4, but I think it will do the same.
OK, I"m baffled. I've looked everywhere for the solution, including all over this web site.
My SM-G960U running stock Android 9 periodically goes into a mode where it marks all app updates and other downloads as "Download Pending." After a while (measured in days) it downloads everything and goes back to normal for a while. This behavior occurs irregularly and appears to me to be unrelated to some change I made in settings. For a while, I was able to correct the problem by force-stopping the Play Store and clearing its cache, but lately, even that doesn't work. I've also tried force-stopping, clearing the cache and data; no luck. Somebody wrote on this web site "Just turn on battery saver and your apps will update." I don't see "battery saver" anywhere and "maximum power saving" mode won't even let me get to the play store. I've adjusted the apps permissions to everything on.
This time around it's been more than a week and I have 68 updates in "download pending."
Once again, I am running stock, have not attempted to root the device nor have I modified it with any ROMs. Auto-update is normally off. (I don't see the point in updating bloatware that I don't use.) However, this problem continues with it on. The problem also persists whether on cellular data or wifi and I've told the app to use either one.
Please help me solve a very frustrating problem. Thanks.

I don't think battery saving will help, actually it will limit background processes. But that guy meant by "battery saver" an option called "Medium power saving", you can find it above the "maximum power saving" in power mode menu.
I had a similar problem, sometimes when I try to download an app, it says "download pending" so I go to "my apps & games", and I press "update all" then I press "stop", then I download the app again and everything works fine...

Try clearing DATA for the play store and Google Play Services (Will probably have to log back in to Google Play)
Thanks, guys for helping. Turns out it appears to be my VPN, which was one of the first things I looked into.
Connections > More connection settings > VPN got me to a "Settings" icon which in turn allowed me to turn off "Block connections without VPN. I then turned off the VPN and the Play Store started DL-ing the updates.. Don't know why this is in device settings, rather than the app's settings, but it is.
I will work with the VPN provider to see if their app and the Play Store can play together nicely.
For the moment, at least, I'm calling this one "Solved."
Why would using a VPN prevent updating apps from the play store?

PIA is Private Internet Access, ( a VPN) I had exactly the same problem with the Playstore too, could only get it to get the downloads started by turning PIA off

My phone didn't do that running Android 8, it was after the update in Android 9. Is there any way around this? What if the Wi-Fi router used the VPN setting and the phone was just receiving that WIFI VPN signal. So the phone would not have VPN on it, would you still need to disable the VPN in the router settings to download and update apps?
I have my phone in airplane mode most of time and mb4 weather never get updated. It sucks that I have to disable airplane mode for weather update every time. Can xiaomi fix this?

No, because it is supposed to work that way. The band doesn't have its own wifi or cell phone data, so, how do you think it fetches information? It fetches information through your phone, through Bluetooth. If your phone is in airplane mode how is it supposed to be able to download weather information?
Should have mentioned I turn on WiFi, gps, and Bluetooth in airplane mode. So only the call is disabled. Then weather can't get updated which I think is ridiculous.
Might be actually a problem of your phone rather than Mi Fit. Some "optimized" skins like MIUI are quite aggressive in killing the background activities and sometimes work unexpectedly. Are other apps getting your location and updates correctly with airplane mode on?
I use note 7 with stock MIUI. Location access for mi fit is allowed. Any other settings need to be enabled? Google maps work fine with gps with airplane mode enabled.
Mi Fit doesn't use GPS for weather location as far as I know, only for workouts. MIUI might be blocking coarse Google services location in airplane mode which uses primarily mobile network (and additionally to this also nearby Wifi networks and Bluetooth devices - depending on your settings).
You could try this app to confirm which location services are available with and without an airplane mode (I haven't tried it, but seems to be what you need ). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.osaka.appppy.locationprovidertest&hl=en
I already mentioned gps works with Google maps with airplane mode being enabled. So you can rule out it's the MIUI setting that's causing mi fit not to update weather in my situation. Thanks for the suggestion for the app though, but it won't help. I think it's the mi fit that's not updating weather when in airplane mode even when WiFi, gps, Bluetooth turned on.
In other words, mi fit requires cell phone to be enabled in order for the weather to be updated.
Maybe someone nice enough can try it and confirm please?
Enable airplane mode, turn on gps, Bluetooth, WiFi.
Then try to update weather. It shouldn't update.
Don't confuse GPS and location services. One uses GPS satellites (power intensive), the other cell network info (low/no power consumption). Most of the weather applications use Google location services as there is no reason to pinpoint your location with such accuracy as GPS provides and hence they use low power method.
When you switch to airplane mode, it is possible that your phone loses access to location services (as they obviously can't scan your mobile network). As Mi Fit (and many other weather apps) don't use GPS to update the weather location, they don't know where you are. Some apps will use the latest known position, others will give you an error. This is why I suggested to use that app on YOUR phone, to confirm if you have access to location services with airplane mode. Also make sure that you have wifi and BT scanning enabled. If it's working fine with other apps, then Mi Fit is definitely the culprit. If not, you need to try different settings on your phone.
I think you are a nice guy to test what I have asked ?
I am a nice guy, but also a lazy one I don't use weather feature on Mi Band, even disabled it in the menu. But when I'm bored enough, I'll try it.
Not bored yet? ?
I got bored so I tried the app ?
Location provider works fine in airplane mode.
Asked the god of internet (Google), and solution was provided. Followed below instruction except skipping step 5 (since I don't believe in God all the time?)
And this fixed my issue without having to enable cell (or disabling airplane mode). What's note worthy is that the instruction is originally provided for cell being enabled. And it works with airplane mode enabled too. That makes me think it's a bug in mi fit. And there probably are many users facing this issue. Otherwise gearbest wouldn't be providing such info either.
Nobody else in this forum face this issue?

Great, glad that it worked for you
I guess that there aren't many people who have Mi Band 4, use weather feature and switch to airplane mode (and then enable GPS, wifi and BT) at the same time. Submit a bug report from within the Mi Fit app so it gets to Xiaomi developers.
But this is an workaround for should-be-working-feature. I submitted the report as you suggested ?
Yeah, it definitely should work. I just wouldn't keep your hopes high for the fix in Mi Fit, Xiaomi usually doesn't care about "corner cases". But maybe they'll surprise us..
