Hello,
If I've installed a TWRP recovery an rooted my MIUI 10 beta ROM, will I lose the OTA updates?
Thanks
Use redwolf recovery to be able to have otas in that rom.
Otherwise yes you'll lose that ability and will have to install manually.
Yes, it will loss OTA. Use built-in root or red wolf recovery instead.

I have a noob question:
I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my gsm nexus. However I would like to be able to receive and install any updates OTA- basically stay as stock as possible with root. My plan was to leave the stock recovery in place. If I need to do a backup or reflash su.zip (after an update to regain root) I was planning on running rom manager and using it to flash CWM. I realize that this CWM would not survive a reboot as the startup script will reflash the stock recovery.
Will this work and does it make sense?
thanks
quick bump- basically I want to know what will prevent an OTA update from installing
Edit I realized there was a flaw in my logic. After an OTA update I will lose root and then be unable to flash the recovery via rom manager. I guess will have to resort to fastboot after OTA
Hi,
I might sound dumb but will I be ablle to get OTA updates if I install custom recovery and root.

No. OTA updates require stock recovery. However, you can revert to stock recovery and unroot as you please. Also, you can flash OTA updates through TWRP once a flashable zip is made, except you have to download it and flash it manually, just like installing a custom ROM. Cheers.

I received the last update through OTA on a rooted Stock ROM with TWRP installed.
After the install was finished TWRP asked if I wanted to restore the root. All went smoothly.
To clarify.. I did not flash the ROM. I used the normal OTA update.

I believe you can on small point updates. The full update from 4.3 to 4.4 most likely won't work with a custom recovery.

you must have stock /system folder + stock recovery
you can be rooted, by if you delete some files in /system - you break your ota
new ota will be with new radio too
after ota super-su apk will be removed by the ota
---------------
i restored /system apps from sdcard before 4.3 ota and migrate very well from 4.2.2
The ota 4.3 update removed my root and Twrp. Hope 4.4 doesn't do the same. It's always a pain for me to restore root with my Windows 7 laptop. It keeps installing the wrong usb drivers which get in the way of the wugfresh toolkit access to the nexus 7. So it's no easy task for me.
I have flashed the MIUI 10 Beta Pie, now I received many OTA updates and I don't know how to flash it via TWRP worrying I would brick my device.
I use the TWRP which has decrypted MIUI 10 PIE.
Also I have Magisk installed. Can someone please tell me how to install OTA updates via TWRP without bricking my device?
Same question, but for sure.. use mi recovery to ota updated, then back to twrp again
you two should install orange recovey, after update OTA, it will back to orange recovery and remove arb in the ROM. Don't worry
I'll try the orange fox twrp. Thank you so much
Hey guys, currently I'm on 12.1.2.0RJDMIMX with unlocked bootloader, rooted with magisk and TWRP installed. May I know the steps to update to the latest 12.5.1.0.RJDMIXM without losing data and root?
Back then when I was using OnePlus, the procedure to update while rooted was
Download latest update
Boot to TWRP
Flash Magisk Uninstaller ( not sure if this was necessary but did it anyways )
Flash the new update
Install latest Magisk
Reboot
Is the procedure same as for MIUI? Thanks in advance!
Hello, I want to flash TWRP on my SM-G990B. But I'm not planning to flash any rom/gsi yet and more likely to stay in stock OneUI. If I get an OTA update will that install if I have TWRP installed as recovery?
I wondering too
