Hello, I want to flash TWRP on my SM-G990B. But I'm not planning to flash any rom/gsi yet and more likely to stay in stock OneUI. If I get an OTA update will that install if I have TWRP installed as recovery?
I wondering too

Twrp have the answer
Official OTA Updates and TWRP
Installing official updates from your manufacturer or carrier is not supported by TWRP.

This is a public service announcement to save people headaches. RTFM. You cannot ever now, or in the past, take an OTA with a custom recovery. You must always have a stock recovery and system to do so. Period. If you do install a custom recovery, freeze the update center with Titanium, Rom Toolbox, or the like, so that you will remember you have a custom recovery and not accidentally take an update.
I hope this helps someone out there
So what is the simplest way to update to the OTA firmware with a phone that is rooted with twrp, and a custom ROM? Is there a way to disable twrp without having to un-root? That way it might be possible to update to the OTA firmware. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

.this is referring to stock software updates, unless it's updates of the rom, which you won't even receive if you're on a custom rom...to update a custom rom, you just download the updated version, or the OTA if the rom is so capable, and flash it in twrp like the first version you downloaded

Wait for a flashable zip for TWRP. You can revert to stock to take an OTA. Being rooted is not a problem per se, it's the custom recovery and having non stock roms. In theory you could flash the stock recovery and bootloader and then take an OTA. However, not having stock system/apps could likely create havoc
In case you do happen to try and install it, here's a fix for your bootloops: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60117595
So the OTA is out here. I have unrooted GPE flashed with TWRP, and this update won't install without stock recovery. Is it ok if I flash this update with TWRP recovery just like the GPE edition before hand?

You cant directly flash an OTA. Use the ROM here:

OTA requires stock recovery to install.
TWRP is a custom recovery, no reason to think an official OTA would be compatible with TWRP.

I don't remember if OTA updates overwrite the recovery or if TWRP will upset the OTA updates.

Twrp actually supports installing official ota updates but while installing ota update it changes the revovery to the stock one.I can confirm this as i myself have done this after asking in various threads
can I install official ota uptade with twrp?
No, you need to be on stock recovery for proper OTA installation. If you still want to install an update you'll have to use fastboot method which will overwrite custom recovery (you can always flash twrp back regardless).
of course you can via twp, download latest recovery and flash it in twrp!
I happen to unlock bootloader and flash twrp recovery for installing AOSP ROM since it wasn't stable and there were no official firmware available as of now I didn't flash anything. Recently I got faceunlock/AR Update but flashing gets failed in twrp? Any way to fix this?
TIA
