Siriusxm App - MTCB Android Head Units Q&A

Does anyone use the SiriusXM app on their head unit? The experience is awful, the images for the channels never show up and are over sized. I wish I was able to add shortcuts or a widget to direct tune to a channel, just click and it opens the app and plays that channel.

Core Player - cannot view YouTube

Hope application problems are OK in this forum?
Following a recommendation I saw yesterday in this video review of the TP2
http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=4772
I just dug into my wallet again and installed Core Player. But I'm unable to play any of the YouTube clips, a major feature claimed for it. When I d-click one, the Core Player wheel spins a bit and that's it - no video playback. Am I missing something obvious here please?

Hi Terry, it's been a week, so you've probably figured this out. Core player has seperate 'network enabled' settings. Look for the little concentric quarter-circles in the top right. If it's greyed out, that's your problem.
Somehow, enabling the network in coreplayer seems to degrade playback performance (by about 15% in my estimate), so it's handy to have it so prominent on the interface. OTOH, you're probably going to need the stylus for this one!
I've just noticed that Youtube wasn't working on my Coreplayer (v1.3.2) then I found this over on their own support forum on 26/07/09
A few weeks ago YouTube has changed their http headers and we plan on releasing a 1.3.x version. Till then you can use another streaming/connection method. Both wifi and GPRS/3G/carrier/etc. will have different network capabilities. See which method work best for you by going into: 'Settings > Preferences > Channels > YouTube > Preferred format' and select another streaming/connection method. It may take several tries to see which format works best for your connection.

I managed to get some of the low quality ones to work over 3G, but not tried them all yet.
Same here. I can not play any youtube videos with the core player. The network connection works fine, i can search for videos, browse the different categories. But when i want to start a video, i get back to the starting screen of the core player.
I also tried all different media formats. Nothing works.
Anybody else with the same problem?
I got i t working using the RTSP (low quality) setting, but, as you would expect, the quality is terrible.
I just use the You Tube app instead at the moment, until Corecodec fix the problem

It is good to hear that i am not alone with this problem. Yeah, i use the YouTube App too, but i like to watch the movies in a better quality. There is only one solution "Wait and see!"
Just seen these replies and confirmatory posts on return from holiday, thanks.
Pleased to see the issue isn't just down to my inexperience with HTC TP2 and/or WM 6.1.

Just saw some more info from Corecodecs forum -
We are QA'ing CorePlayer 1.3.5 right now and expect a release shortly. Shortly = as soon as we are done with QA.... days, weeks, its to be determined.... but is closer now.
Also on what's in this release is mostly the YouTube fix as well as some more enhancements to the networking code base to make CP more dynamic to future YT HTTP changes (if they decide to change their http headers again).

Where the hell is this Last.fm app? I still can't find it on the Marketplace.
Could it be not available in some countries?
Yes, the Last.fm app might be limited to USA only as i DL'ed it and used it here in the States.
Shoutcast?!??! or Windows Media ASX steams??? how do we play these?
I'm trying to play an M3U stream, the only way I can work it is by emailing the URL and then opening it on the phone. It works but its not exactly great, if the signal is lost it doesnt rebuffer, it just plays what it had buffered up until connection lost over and over and over again!

Thanks for the reply.
So it also means that all the countries have no access to the same apps.

Last.fm doesnt have the radio i want to listen to though!
sigh still no shoutcast
I am hopeful for a way to listen to XM Radio. I have an account and there was a WM app that made this possible. The regular internet on WP doesn't allow me to listen to my online account for some reason. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong. Has anyone got XM to play on their new WP?

I emailed sirius about a wp7 app and they were noncommital about any app forthcoming. Hopefully it will come out soon.
I'm looking for a streaming app that has NPR. I usually listen to it on my morning commute but was using my iPhone for it. Now that I've moved over I don't have something to replace it. I'm hoping someone will come up with something soon as Slacker doesn't load well or load at all sometimes on my phone (htc Surround). There aren't any other apps for listening to NPR / public radio streams unless I over looked it?
iHeartRadio doesn't have the stations and has some audio issues sometimes.
Bumping up an old thread. I've just released a Siriux/XM app for WP7, and its live in the Marketplace now. Its called Sat Rad Player and you can find it at the following link:
http://social.zune.net/External/Lau...oneAppID=ecc794a8-aa58-e011-854c-00237de2db9e
We've set up some forums as well at http://www.satradplayer.com/Forums where people can get support or suggest enhancements to the app to make it better.
Check out the trial version and let me know what you think.

Yeah, this is a massive gaping hole in both WP7 and Zune's media playback capabilities. I'm hoping they introduce support in a future verson. I mean, it's not difficult. Sadly, I think the truth is they'd rather you were buying music from the Zune store.
Just one of many examples of the "dumbing down" of technology that seems all the rage these days.

Use TuneIn Radio for WP7... It's a great app
I am in France and listen to NPR everyday, but also WNYC, KCRW, etc....
TuneIn allows you to listen to both Internet Radios and podcasts.

Audio scrubbing in the Zune player?
HOW?
To go forward or back in a video you had to hold the buttons... Now you can slide your finger on the timeline bar, or just tap anywhere on it... Much much better...

Seriously need to do it, I mean it's the most basic of features to have in a music player I'm bemused as to why they haven't implemented it yet.

I guess the reason is because the timeline of the music player is pretty small. I imagine that doing an accurate search with it close to impossible. The timeline if the video player is way larger though.

Indeed. The lack of this basic feature means WP7 is useless for playing audio books, podcasts or language learning CDs - basically anything longer than 60mins. I still have to carry my ipod for this, so 2 devices.

The current Ipod Nano 6G has a 1.5" square screen, and supports full timeline scrubbing. Left and right to move through the timeline, up and down to slow down and speed up; exactly the same as on the iphone and ipod touch. If this tiny device can get it right, surely Microsoft can figure out a way on a 3.5"+ screen?
Not happy Zune player
Zune player is cool but it doesnt have equilizer and i cant hear audio if I connect my stereo bluetooth(Dell BH200)headset while playing videos... Please suggest some third party video apps plz..... Thnx
Wow, just wow
You can do a reg fix that will allow you to listen to videos on your BT if you are unlocked and I will send a pic to show you where. P.S if this helps, click the thanks button.

Is it an android limitation that videos cant run in background?

i hate to bring up old windows mobile but i actually liked that i was able to have a video running in the background. i notice any video app whether its youtube, slingplayer, or the gallery and i go into another app or home the video stops.
I don't understand why you would need a video playing in the background when you're not actively on that app unless you want it to buffer in the background. Which is a good idea and kind of disappointed that Android hasn't implemented this in yet.
i am about to post and say that it's technically possible, an app developer would just have to correctly code the onPause and onStop function to continue the video when the app loses foreground focus. but i dont know for sure if some type of video api is limited within the OS. i doubt that, and i bet it's possible. just nobody coded their apps in such a manner.
it is useful, lets say you are watching a video and you need to switch away for a few minutes but you want to keep listening to the audio while you write an email etc.
I'd say about 3/4 of the time I have a video/TV show on I'm not really watching but enjoy having it in the background. This would be great.
Is this a phone or a PC with a 23 inch monitor? We can't window apps, so audio aside I don't see the allure.

I agree. It's PROBABLY technically possible but it just hasn't been done.
I'm not seeing the allure of it either.
This is my phone after all. I would hate for video sound to be playing in the background when I get a phonecall.

That happened to me once. I was watching a....questionable flash video and an important call came in. It kept playing during the call and the caller could hear it.
Awkward....
Bahaha, that's hilarious. And yeah, I meant only audio. When I'm working at home I would rather have a TV show on in the background then music, regardless of whether or not I can see it. Hearing Hank Hill call someone a jackass helps me work more than music. I just wish we were actually allowed to bring phone's with camera's into work, and this would be doubly useful.
ok thanks for the info guys. for those who dont like it simply stop the video before u hit home. i used to do it all the time on wimo and it worked great. sometimes im watching a game and a text comes in and i dont want to wait till commercials to answer it.
The act 1 video player allows this , though you have to say 'play in background' every time you want it to happen. It's also not the greatest video player ever
This would be very useful for youtube. A lot of times I "listen" to youtube videos only for the music.
Awesome app for having video running along other apps.

[APP] Poweramp Remote 4 Android Wear

Hello.
Just want to share some very good news - there's ain Play Store called "Poweramp Remote 4 Android Wear", and it works with Moto 360 like a charm. The app is paid, but it finally allows to use Moto 360 to control music as fully as Sony's SmartWatch 2 used to do.
WBR, Draco
first off, FINALLY THANK YOU.
second: few small things to make it perfect:
1. folder list
2. metadata is sometimes off, mostly pictures but sometimes I'll go to an artist and not see a song I know I have...if I find the another way the artist will show as same.
3. browsing on general should mirror poweramp...one of the reasons I will never switch away from poweramp is the way you can browse for a song: folders and artist then album.
there's one more annoyance that no one do anything about though and that's the ever present default notification that comes first when you play music . Once you can get this stuff working this will be as good as the app in SW2...really missed that app
Hi.
I'm not the developer of this app, I've just posted here about it You can contact developer via Play Store. As for the default music notification, it drives me mad also, but apparently there's nothing to be done yet - Android Wear is sort of a parody on the real Android...
WBR, Draco.
I looked at it but have been a supporter of the MusicBoss for Wear app. It can control pretty much any app that controls volume and the dev is responsive to fixes! I have been following the dev since the Kickstarter Pebble. So he is a user as well.

Already there
I have also Music Boss (and on my pebble) but very huge difference, with Music Boss we can not browse Album, Artist, Title, and not setup for equalizer.
For Wear I use Stellio found before the Power Amp app (I have also Power Amp on my phone).

True, but I like to actually see what I am doing there on the phone, which is better to view the settings IMO. I have tried Stellio as well and is ok, but I gravitate back to MB for just playback and volume controls.
