Audio scrubbing in the Zune player?
HOW?

To go forward or back in a video you had to hold the buttons... Now you can slide your finger on the timeline bar, or just tap anywhere on it... Much much better...

Seriously need to do it, I mean it's the most basic of features to have in a music player I'm bemused as to why they haven't implemented it yet.

I guess the reason is because the timeline of the music player is pretty small. I imagine that doing an accurate search with it close to impossible. The timeline if the video player is way larger though.

Indeed. The lack of this basic feature means WP7 is useless for playing audio books, podcasts or language learning CDs - basically anything longer than 60mins. I still have to carry my ipod for this, so 2 devices.

The current Ipod Nano 6G has a 1.5" square screen, and supports full timeline scrubbing. Left and right to move through the timeline, up and down to slow down and speed up; exactly the same as on the iphone and ipod touch. If this tiny device can get it right, surely Microsoft can figure out a way on a 3.5"+ screen?

Not happy Zune player
Zune player is cool but it doesnt have equilizer and i cant hear audio if I connect my stereo bluetooth(Dell BH200)headset while playing videos... Please suggest some third party video apps plz..... Thnx

Wow, just wow

You can do a reg fix that will allow you to listen to videos on your BT if you are unlocked and I will send a pic to show you where. P.S if this helps, click the thanks button.

Any FREE media players for Dash?

As we all know Windows Media Player is a memory hog. Trying to send a text while listening to a song seems to take hours. Can anybody please tell me if there is a free media app thats better than Windows? I dont care much about video just something thats not so heavy on the phone that plays MP3 and WMA.
I did do a search and all I saw was people recomending PocketPlayer, but that costs money. I did find DivX.cab (comes with set-up files too), Im about to try it out but i really dont like installing extra software on my PC just for a media player on my phone. THanks for any help folks!
EDIT: DivX is only video, but it looks really nice for those of you who like to watch vids on their phone.

No PocketPlayer is the best Audio Player about with far more feature than CorePlayer with regards Audio.
The same in reverse CorePlayer is primaraly for Video and very good @ it.
So pair the 2 together and you have Multimedia covered.
ahh rather stick with the classic tcpmp, it ca do both..tried coreplayer..album art doesnt display it as big as tcpmp can

Yes it can do both, TCPMP is just the early release of CorePlayer, to which is why CorePlayer is far more advanced in it's playing capabilities, wouldn't use CorPlayer to play audio or TCPMP as they where mainly designed for Video, where as PocketPlayer has alot of features and is pristine when playing audio.

yeah! pocket player is my main music player, not only for local content in my phone, but also has the web guide that you can search web streams by category or genre , does podcast, you can bookmark streams, you can even use your regular bluetooth headset to listen to music, although I wouldn't recomend it, unless you have a stereo bluetooth headset. It even has an equalizer you can adjust to your liking.

Best music & Video player app till samsung galaxy S?

Best video player I've used by far is Act 1 - my review here: http://www.theandroidappreviewer.com/app-reviews/act-1-video-player-app-review/
It's only recent, but Lithium is by far the best player I've used.
The interface is very professional with great gestural control, 4 widget sizes, automatic album art downloader, custom playlists, replacement lockscreen when music is playing, etc.
But I like it best for the interface. =)

Yeah I had a word with the dev and he said that he may come up with a paypal version but he does not want to right now 'coz of licensing issues.
He said and I quote.
Regarding Paypal, I didn't yet create an account. But then you need to manage the release of updates (need a license key etc). Which might require quite some DEV.
But will think about it in the long term.
Thks again for the support.

Even .ogg and .flac files all produce a statick click when the next track begins. Is this a 'feature' of the Galaxy in general?

I totally agree!! I love Lithium. I'm trying this new one now called "ttpod" which downloads lyrics and lets you display them over top of all apps. Get a copy and turn off karoke mode if the lyrics over top annoy you . Best movie player I would say is mVideoplayer . I just havn't found anything else like it (paid or otherwise)

I've just tried mvideoplayer without success, but I still can't seem to find a (free) video player that will play (or even acknowledge) my .mpg videos!
I'm not interested in subtitles or any other format apart from .mpg
Any suggestions?
Maybe winamp or realplayer?

Did you actually read my question EarlZ ?
The best music player has to be powerAMP. And the best video player is in my opinion the stock player, it's slick and clean and plays many kind of videofiles flawlessly like MKV.
Personally I think the stock music player is great. Equaliser, effects, and the disc view is pretty cool. As well as controls on the lockscreen (only when using glass lock) and app drawer.
Have yet to see a 3rd party one that makes me want to switch.
For video mVideoPlayer is my favourite. It lacks the 5.1 sound option from the stock player though.
I have yet to find a music player that can sort by album artist (not artist) and provides an output selection of bluetooth or phone.
Really frustrating that such basic features don't exist.

The HTC HD7 makes a fine Zune

Got the Zune software installed and my music transferred to my HD7 and am pleased the sound quality with my Shure SE530s is quite good. For lack of common smartphone features, it doesn't lack as a Zune music player. The UI is snappier and swifter than the dedicated Zunes, too.
EDIT- A feature that I encountered by accident is the volume button bringing up the mini-player controls in any screen. Very convenient when needing to tap pause or skip.
Cool my girl just got an HD7 and when she's trying to put all her music it keeps saying not enough memory....its only 4gigs of music did you have any problems putting music on your phone.

Nah, not on this device. But I have had that issue with dedicated Zune players in the past. I usually solved it by erasing the whole player and then it would show properly. Don't know what I would do on this fancy phone if that happened with it. Don't want to erase the data or other smartphone related stuff.

It does make for a great ZUNE PLAYER. One of the reasons why I got couldn't wait for the WP7 Phones. I am also glad the GLOBAL market gets to experience this officially. It it so much better than the ITUNEs and IPOD. Graphically it is top notch.
I signed up for the year for $149.99 which gives me two free months which in essence pays for itself with the 10 songs per month.
I also found out about the volume rocker activating the player. Very nice feature.
The sound quality out of my earphones is much louder than my EVO which is a great thing and very clear. I have several sets of earphones and they all sound great. I hated that my EVO was not very loud even with the DSP manager compared to my IPHONE or IPOD TOUCH( Ebay time ).
Have you guys tried out Shazam for WP7? It's so much better than for IPHONE and ANDROID. Nice Zune link at the bottom.
So far the APPS that I use most blows away the ANDROID or the IPHONE versions. Usually its not as good initially than the IPHONE. Two exceptions - Twitter and Facebook. They could use some tweaks
Can't wait for the Dell Venue Pro!

You would think as integrated as they are with Facebook that we should have the premium version of them all. I am sure the next update will do this. Definately needs push notification as integrated as it is with WP7. They need to also provide better notifications alerts. I give Android that prop. The persistent state of notifications until you clear them or read the email or message is nice. I know the numbered visual cue in the tile is nice but you have to look at them to know that they have them. That is why they remain the theme color so you can see them better
Maybe if I put them up top I might see them better haha

I really have never understood the compulsion for gapless playback. But maybe it's a hip-hop, rap or heavy metal thing, I don't know. My music of choice is Jazz, Meditation & Healing, New Age, piano, classic rock and alternative (Coldplay type). None of these genres are what could be considered frantic type music that requires a non-stop playback. These are more inline with relaxing moods than frantic. And because of this I see no problem with the lack of gapless in WP7/Zune.

I listen to to all genres you listed: hip-hop, rock, jazz, lounge, eletronic, etc. If you're listening to jazz you most undoubtedly have one or a few live jazz albums which NEED gapless playback. This is pretty disturbing actually.
1. I've still got my iPhone 3G S, but fancied a change and was hoping the HD7 was going to be the replacement.
2. The phone will be going back. Not something I want to do, but until a few things* are ironed out, it's the sensible option. (* See my HD7 'review').
3. No idea what Dubscription is/was. iTunes only went gapless in 2006, hence my '2005' comment. My comparison is between WP7 Zune and iTunes. Also, not sure where you're coming from with the Amazon/iTunes thing. I never buy music online, so the point is moot.
4. Concerts, classical (which I admittedly don't listen to), Pink Floyd, continuous mixes, albums like 'Love' by The Beatles and Soulwax by 2manyDJs. There are a lot of gapless albums out there. It's not just a particular genre. Check out the 'Chilled' series my Ministry of Sound or The K&D sessions for something gapless and more downtempo.

Have you looked in the settings on Zune? There's an option to reserve a percentage of the phone space. That restricts Zune's ability to fill your device up in case it means you don't have any space left to install applications, receive data etc.
After suggestions about different encoders and ID3 tags, I've carried out some different file tests, to see if it made a difference. These are the formats I tried, all ripped from an original CD (DJ mix gapless):
Ripped using iTunes - M4A (AAC), MP3 with ID3 tags changed to v1.0, MP3 with ID3 tags changed to v2.4.
Ripped using Max - MP3, M4A.
I also tried some downloaded music that I've no idea what encoder was used.
After trying the 5 different file types and the other music, there is no gapless playback whatsoever.
It seems the Zune component on WP7 just doesn't support it. Whether an update will include gapless, I've no idea, but here's hoping.

Are you using DRM music? Gapless is broken with DRM for Zune HD and I assume WP7 as well...for non DRM gapless works perfect on my zune HD(don't have a WP7 yet)...I'm sure it's just a matter of time to get that fixed if it's not working on wp7...
I can't see how anyone could compare the zune experience to the ios music experience...apple has not done anything with their media playback since the iphone was released...the zune is a far better media player
Yeah, I read about the Zune HD/DRM thing. All of my music is DRM-free and I don't have any paid downloads. Also, the music I tried tonight was taken straight from a CD.
I think Apple got more right to start with, so they've not had to update the iPod component in iOS. Gapless (obviously), auto-levelling (Sound Check) and search are all present on iOS, but lacking on WP7 so far. The UI is very nice though and it flows along well. Sound quality on my HD7 is a definite step up from my iPhone too. This is using the same Denon earbuds of course.
As a complete Zune virgin, how often are the updates?
gaps are annoying to me on live albums, but not show stoppers, hopefully they fix it.
normally I'm on shuffle all though, so it is a low priority issue for me

I have had a Generation 1 Zune since they came out and updates come out just about as often as the Zune Windows desktop software- which is maybe once or twice a year. I've been very happy about updates for the Zune, but I imagine WP7 phone updates may be tied to the carrier (AT&T, T-Mo) and not the Zune desktop software itself.

Changes in the JellyBean music app

I'm a big fan on Google music mainly because of the streaming features, and I wouldn't call myself an audiophile, just someone who loves to listen to music. I used to love the style of the app in ICS, but I know many didn't, for understandable reasons.
With the update to JellyBean some of you may have noticed a change in the styling of the app. The orgainization is different, with the recent having large album art (image below), playlists being left of that (which I love, since I mostly go there anyways) and back controls on the now playing bar at the bottom. Also, the now playing screen now has a different layout with a shortcut to the list of songs now playing (while before you wouldn't see this at all). This is actually where the problem is.
Try it out yourself. If you have two different playlists, play one and then play the other. Afterwards when you press the now playing button it should show the current songs from the second playlist now right? Wrong. Now this list shows both playlists in the list and anything else you have played since updating the app (see the second and then third image). To remove them you have to select menu then clear queue.
Say you have a playlist in a particular order that you like, so you don't use shuffle (maybe it's a new album where each song transitions into the next). If you have shuffle currently in the now playing then too bad. The only way to get it to work is to go to now playing, deselect shuffle, and then select the playlist.
On the plus side however, if you do use shuffle, and deselect and reselect it from the now playing tab, then the list will show you the order of the new shuffle and will keep the order of the songs you have already played instead of shuffling everything.
So in my opinion it's some good and some bad. What do you guys think? Have you noticed anything else different?
Still no gapless playback.
I'm very disappointed with the music playback capabilities of Android, even iPods offer gapless playback since ~6 years.
Yes, but the UI in Music is much better, and I really like the album art previews upon opening.

I agree that the UI is a bit cleaner and better oriented for the multiple tabs, I just don't like the design of the now playing. It bothers me that when the additional items (shuffle, repeat etc) disappear you now have this progress bar and media buttons that seem cramped together. They still work but it kind of seems like a waste of space. Also the menu button/action bar is consistently at the top now, a feature that everyone complained about in ICS. I think the only app that has menu at the bottom now is Gmail, which has it in two places, neither of which are the top.

Also a good point. I don't use bluetooth but I can imagine this as a great feature, given that we don't have quick toggles (but let's not get into that topic ).
It seems to me that Google is getting to that "It just works" period. Love it.
I don't like the update.
I liked the way before, when a song is playing, I can tap the screen, it'll "shrink" the cover-art and then I can tap the artist name or album name to view their songs/albums.
Much easier than tapping the little thing on the top right which shows the current playlist.
I like to play all songs in shuffle, but when I hear something I like, I like to tap the artist then quickly play one of their albums, harder to do it now.
Two more quick things: there now a thumbs up playlist, and there's actual album art for each playlist, made from a combination of the album arts of songs in said playlist.

this is why I use PowerAmp, gapless works fantastically there.
I would rather that the app prompts me to create a playlist than generate one automatically every time I select a single song from an album.
The UI is a bit nicer to look at, but auto-generated playlists are terrible.

Well it's not auto generating playlists. When you select a single song from an album it adds the rest songs in that album to the playlist. If you have shuffle enabled then they're shuffled as well, but if not then it starts the playlist in the position of the song in that album. If you select a song from the songs section then the playlist is all of the songs you have.

I miss being able to access other songs from the album or artist from the Now Playing screen, but overall like the new ui.

But it is still possible though. Just in case anyone doesn't know, you select the playlist tab in the now playing screen, press the more options tab on the song and select more by artist. Like above said, though. It's a bit more effort.
Does this update display album art at better quality? The one on the Play Store now still pixelates some of my decent quality (400x400) album art. This is one of the main reasons I've stayed away from Google Music.
Can you finally choose which songs you'd like to "Make available offline" instead of choose the whole album?
And can you can delete specific songs from cache ?

I used to use Power Amp so I'm used to it but now I use Google Music exclusively and with 4G on its the closest to gapless than it has ever been.

Samsung Music Player

Regarding music player, I just got used to using Google Music on GN, but with GS3, I have come to like Sammy Music Player
I love the Music Square, once I figured the music needed to be on the phone, and I needed to reload the music.
BUt I like to use genres when making playlists. I don't see them. are they there , is there a way to do it
I know there are tons of music players out there. But this gets lots of great reviews, the equalizer works etc
Is there one that MOST people agree is in the top 1 0r 2 Or is this one now one of those
Thank You
You can setup your tabs in settings. There's a genre tab in there somewhere.

Wow do I feel like a fool
Ill try 2 for 2....for song search, is the only option to drag the slider thru the alphabet?
As far as tagging I see it does that. But album art, how do I get that
I know the other players get it...but
1. Do they keep it? Something I read led me to believe it was just temporary
I am speaking of PowerAmp and PlayerPro. Maybe even WinAmp
All I want is:
Ability to set playlists with genres
Ability to get tags PLUS album art
A decent EQ
Possibly music AND video in one with Video opening full screen
Believe it or not the reviews are right. Samsung did a good job
It can do #1, after u pointed it out.
It can do number 2, waiting on the ART answer
It is said by reviewers to have an awesome EQ
It doesnt play video. But I can use the Video player and It opens FULKY
Doubletwist, Playerpro do not open fully
Thanks Again
Eric.
Can't find this anywhere else, but I'm unable to queue music in the stock music player.
Is this possible, as it is in every other music player I've ever seen?

Nope. It should depend on the Touchwiz framework to run.

There's something called "schnellstartliste" in german. If you long press a song you can add it to that. If you select that from playlists, which should be the first entry, it acts as queue. Maybe that's what you are looking for

This works for individual tracks, but you can't queue an album in the 'quick list'.
You get the option to add to a list and the 'quick list' isn't an option....

you can try poweramp theres a trail version on google play store, its pretty good and has loadsa options, used a couple of different players already and i find poweramp to be the best
I'm using 'cubed'. Good music player but not been tested on the s3 yet, hence can't create playlists.
Can queue tracks and albums though, so not too bad.
I just really liked the stock player and am a bit puzzled why you can't queue stuff properly. It's a deal breaker for me.
