Since the new twitter app was launched i've noticed its quite "choppy" and lags when scrolling up and down., not really done anything about it and passed it of as being the new app.
However.
I was just messing with my mates SGS2 and noticed he had twitter so thought i'd try it out.
I put them both to the top of the twitter updates and flicked them to make them scroll down simultaniously.
The SGS2 scrolls flawlessly until it stops then the phone retrieves the twitter photos of the status's that are displayed.
My nexus is very very laggy and seems to be retrieving the photos as it scrolls (which could be the cause)
Has anyone noticed this or similar with other apps?

Known problem, there's a thread in the app section about this. You could either use Tweakdeck or enable 'Force hardware acceleration' in the developer option menu. I would recommend the first, very very smooth. The second option does work (you'll notice the regular Twitter app will be as smooth as on the SGS2), but might cause problems with different apps. It will most likely be fixed with the next update (i may hope), it's quite simple to fix from what I understand.

Thanks you your reply, i've never noticed that option before (force) and it does indeed remove the lag.
What exactly is the issue then? it's also present in the facebook app (solved by ticking the force box) and what issues may it cause other apps
Turn "force 2D gfx accel" (or something similar) in developer settings. It'll fix Twitter issue.

And possibly create problems with other apps not yet compatible with HW acceleration when forced on. Just a heads up for the OP if he runs into problems with other apps.
Just done a bit of reading on the developer option so appologise for the duplicate question on the forum.
So it seems its an app issue rather than the phone, which in a way is a good thing.
Have just tried Tweakdeck... Like .
Thanks

No problems, as long as they are in the appropriate thread, posting questions is absolutely fine. For twitter, the developer will have to manually add this option, to use GPU, to their app. It'll happen in an update, got nothing to do with our phones! But Paul OBrien recently adjusted Tweetdeck, thereby changing it to Tweakdeck, to play nicely with our GN's. So that's a perfect alternative! Enjoy
Got an example of a problem in an app caused by force enabling GFX acceleration. Twitter is terrible slow/laggy. Thinking of forcing GPU accel but wondering if anyone knows any app with known issue with this? Surely non of the google apps?
edit: A forget it. I tried twitter with forced GPU and it barely made much difference. tiny bit smoother. but nothing like the old twitter app. zzz
Is there any way to disable Flash temporarily, without uninstalling it?
watching video with flash is a terrible experience
ps. Gnex 4.0.4
Freeze with titanium backup..?
Use the chrome browser instead. A better browser and no flash.
Browser settings > advanced > change "Enable plug-ins" to "On Demand" (tap to enable content) or "off".
That said; Flash works pretty damn good from what I've seen. At least for in-browser videos to does. For Shockwave type media, it does lag a bit still.

Cool, thanks.
In my area LTE is very weak. Sometimes I will,l get 2 bars only to have it flatline. Even when outside I will be lucky to get LTE. HSPA+ however is very strong. Is there a way I can disable the LTE radio to save battery life? I love this nexus but the battery life is a bit lacking.
Thanks!

I try to help you even I do not have (still) SIM card in my N7-LTE.
On phone I "call" *#*#4636#*#* to open Phone testing app and select "Phone info" and down the page there is "Set preferred network type:". Elaborate this...
One question still persists - how to "call" *#*#4636#*#* on tablet without dialer?
On tablet, you can simple put the "Tablet info" using launcher shortcut to activity.

Any 4G switcher App "should" be able to do this. I use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tapbase.LTEswitcher ...
This way you can switch to WCDMA/EDGE or WCDMA Only. ... The change won't stick across a reboot though.
However, it is even easier if you're rooted on the stock Rom (or perhaps others)... Install XPosed Framework. Then using Gravitybox, you can add a 2g/3g/4g switcher toggle to your quick status box.
I don't think the easiest way is "root -> install XPosed fw -> install GravityBox -> add switcher toggle"
For me the XPosed is still something really hacking installed apps and coz my paranoia I don't trust it. All is IMHO so if you want to use XPosed, use it.

It's "easier" in that, once you complete the steps, you just have a nice looking toggle that works and looks like it is SUPPOSED to be there. Using the phone diagnostics menu is not the quickest way if you want to change things on the fly, plus it is possible to mess things up there.
And really, if you won't use XPosed because you don't trust it... then you pretty much can't trust any aftermarket ROM or even rooting tools... so ... I guess you run your device stock unrooted?
You are right of using the diagnostic menu can make some bad things (which are repaired after reboot) but the same can be told about XPosed and installing any of snippets which are not "authenticated".
I disagree with your last long sentence - XPosed is hacking the system/app/whatever you have installed. Custom ROM is not hacking. As "hacking" I mean "modify the application in run-time". I make an example - take the QuickPic - application for displaying pictures and play videos. Creator of this application makes it to display pictures and play videos - no more, no less. Using XPosed you can "modify" this application to browse some web pages. And this is not purpose the developer create this app for. I don't condemns the XPosed fw. It is mighty tool which can help in some circumstances (like tweak OEM ROM), but I primary don't want to use it.
BTW: I use CyanogenMod from version 7 in all of my devices, but you cannot compare XPosed with custom ROM - these two are too way different... and same with rooting system....

DETAILS:
I’ve done some cursory searching here on XDA and across the wider interwebs and I’m hoping someone reading this can provide some insight, or, at the very least, help me to better understand an issue I’m experiencing.
I have a rooted OP5t running OxygenOS - no special ROMs (as mentioned at the top of this post).
At some point after initially rooting my device (purchased Jan 2018), I was able to disable Chrome, Youtube, Community (OnePlus), Duo, Play Movies & TV, Play Music and a host of other pre-packaged apps I never use. Since then, I have been able to use my OP5t with no issues. I simply use the apps I use, get updates from Play and carry-on with life. In general, if an app I do not use has the option to disable it [via Settings > Apps > Application List > $AppInfo], I have disabled it; otherwise, I have used Titanium Backup’s “Freeze” option.
That is, until last night. (Sidenote: Someday I’ll learn to leave well enough alone!)
Last night I decided that I wanted to be finally rid of the apps I don’t use. So, for starters, I uninstalled Chrome and Youtube via Titanium Backup and stopped there. All went well until I attempted to open GMail. Gmail FC’d. I tried another app, it FC’d too. WTH?
So, this morning I decided, “Okay, let’s restore these from Titanium and see which of these is potentially causing the other apps to FC.” The process for restoring Chrome took ages (my god it’s an unwieldingly huge app!) but I finally got them both it and YouTube restored, along with their respective data. Whew! Cool. I tested the other apps and got no FC! \0/ <(YAY!) Cool. So, I set about disabling YouTube. With YouTube successfully disabled, I tested my other apps and nothing is FCing. Great!
I then set my sights on Chrome: No dice. When I disable Chrome, other apps FC. (Damn) Fine. I’ll enable it and restrict its data use and block its access via firewall. Cool. That works. So, I end up slightly close to where I started last night, except I can’t disable Chrome again.
Is Chrome that interwoven into AOSP that I can no longer disable it?
I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this issue and has success in disabling the prepackaged Chrome on OP5t.
Thanks in advance!
Because it is enabled as webview.check in developer option.

Thanks for that lead. Here's what I'm seeing, but first, current status:
I have Chrome disabled (and Force Stopped). I attempt to open GMail and it FCs.
In looking at Settings > Developer Options > Webview implementation, I now see Android System Webview 65.0.3325.109 as selected (checked) and the entry for Chrome 67.0.3396.87 is greyed out.
If I enable Chrome, Gmail doesn't FC and (in Webview) Chrome 67.... is selected (checked) while Android System Webview is greyed out.
In either scenario, the greyed out option also notes "(disabled for $user)" - which makes some sense. Kinda. [shrug?]
I'm guessing (although, admittedly without good reason) that the two Webview implementations are not compatible.
Any idea where to go from here? (I'll be searching for Webview implementations in another window).
Thanks in advance.
Is your Android System WebView updated? Mine shows v68.0.3440.40
Chrome implementation is not good in oos,I wrote about it many times but it never got fixed. Fix for me was to use hydrogen os based Roms ?

Maybe the best option for you is a AOSP ROM... I use Dirty Unicorns, very smooth and fast and clean of Google apps...

I'm not certain about it but I think since Oreo onwards webview was changed from Android Webview to Chrome Webview hence if you manage to crash Chrome, then all apps that utilize the Chrome Webview will crash respectively, I can personally vouch for this cause I remember I had accidently tried updating Chrome with an ARM version of the app and all my apps using Chrome Webview crashed and when I finally realized and updated it with ARM64 it worked flawlessly.
What I derived from this is if you managed to break Chrome Webview it crashes a whole lot of Google Apps. I don't know if there is a work around for this you look around for Micro G Apps which could theoretically replace the Chrome Webview; however, you're on OOS I'm not sure if that combination would work.
Using OB10 and it's normal, lol
After I bought this phone I installed Ros, ML, and PUBG. I observe that only in ROS and ML I feel a massive lag even in good ping in middle of the game. I don't know if it's fps drop I mean I think sd675 can handle all high graphics of this two. PUBG in HDR and ULTRA settings works great no fps drop no lag. Can anyone notice it too? I feel bad because I'm a gamer
I had try ML but not Ros. I face same problem like you. for the first 3min on ML it good after that fps start drop until i restart the game and fps drop again

How did you get those settings in PUBG? What android version are you on?
Edit: Mine is July security patch. I can't put the game on higher than HD and High frames.
Same here. Mobile legends is lagging badly.
I used to play a very lightweight game called Punch Quest (no longer in the play store but i loved it), it ran smoothly as hell on my previous Oppo F7 ,But on A70 it was lagging like hell.
I rooted the phone and discovered that "msm-adreno-tz", which is the GPU governer for our A70, is doing horrendous work with 2D graphics (Such as ML) and Punch Quest but it's decent for 3D Graphics such as PUBG.
Changing it to Performance or even Powesave fixed the heavy lag in my games.
I hope this helps someone out.
Edit: i take back this post as this isnt working anymore. I just got excited posting thinking it was fixed right after. The phone plays games without throttling while charging. Please see my edited solution
Solution
So i have been looking what applications are associated with running the app and every system processes that affects the performance of the game.
1. The game launcher launches the game everytime and enhances the game really well. So i skipped this one.
2. I went to Galaxy Store and noticed program called *GameOptimizingService* . I went to look for the reviews and there are a couple of users who complained about frame drops too. I took the time to look at it and it seems its the main culprit for the game frame drops.
Going to the app, i looked for every processes that involves this app. Please follow these steps to stop the app from changing your system performance aggressively.
1. Go to Settings > Apps
2. Click the options or 3 dots on the upper right corner and hit *Show System apps*
3. Look and click for *Game Optimizing Service* > scroll to the bottom of the page and under Advanced Section, youll see *change system settings* > unclick the *allow permission*
4. Same goes under Appear on top section > unclick the *allow permission*
5. Click the options or 3 dots on the upper right corner and hit *Special access*
6. Under *optimize battery usage* > click the drop down *Apps not optimized* and select *All*
7. Turn off *Game Optimizing Service* and *GOS Legacy* and hit back
8. Under *Appear on top* option, hit option on the upper right corner and show system apps, then disable *Game Optimizing Service* and go back once.
9. On of the most important process, enter *change system settings* . hit option on the upper right corner and show system apps, then disable *Game Optimizing Service* and *game tools* then go back once.
10. Under wifi Control, look for *Game Optimizing Service* and disable the app permission.
11. Under usage data access, look for *Game Optimizing Service* and disable the allow usage tracking
The main goal is to hinder game optimizing service from messing any of your device's system apps.
After which, all games improved drastically in mine. Please let me know what happens to your device.

Does this mean you forced gpu to work on everything? How was the battery life after doing it? Does the battery decrease?

As I said above, you misunderstood. He says that you should play while charging.
What @bochanseiha wants to say is:
If we use the phone for gaming while it's connected to charger, games will work smoother without (or less) fps drops. Just like laptops.
---------------------------------------------
Your solution is logical. But I do not play pubg or mobile legends. I usually play Vainglory and it never gets laggy even if I play with low battery. Someone who plays mobile legends should give this solution a chance and share his/her opinion here.
Update Game Booster in Galaxy Store.
- Open your Game.
- Pull down the Notification and tap on Game Booster
- Tap on High temperature.
- Turn off Auto Control.
I test without Charging and it work good. You can test.
I was looking for the solution but any of the solution was useless for me lol... So i moved to lineage os and got rid of everything... Games run perfectly now without any problem and also its all your stupid stock that was annoying... Now i can even play games while charging and doesnt matter if screen is on or not charging is fast.. Earlier playing with charger was so **** because it uses to lag more

this is the correct work around. I forgot to come back to update.
But apart from this, it is important to update GameOptimizingService as it throttles the game significantly too. I updated this earlier than game booster and the problem was solved.

well, i am replying whatsapp message, instagram or something like that when i am dying or respawning. There are no such issue on my previous phone and this phone with Gameoptimizing service and gameenhanced service disabled via CSWE app manager. The thing is i just want to use game launcher and game booster normally without these issues like fps drop when switching app and such cz when it happen, it will only getting worse, till i restart the game again, no matter what i do. The fps drop after few minutes playing did dissapear after update, but when switching app even for a moment, it still broke.

Yeah!! When i using S7 everything Good. I dont need to do anything just open the game and everything smoothly. But This A70 is running SD675 it should be good for gaming. I think Cuz of software make limited to the SD675 to run cold and drop our fps while gaming on it. Sad
