Does he Tab S4 have Pentile Matrix display? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Questions & Answers

At 8.4 inch I could probably pass on having a pentile display, but the original 10.5 had an RGB one. Hopefully the Tab S4 has also the same subpixel arrangement
I'm trying to find any info whether the Tab S4 had a pentile or RGB matrix. Is there any news about this one?

I'd also like to know this. Would appreciate if anyone had any information.

Normally amoled is pentile but I know Samsung's lastest screens have changed a bit

Looks like the same type as the original tab s WQXGA.
But I don't think it will be a problem. i did read a while back that the pixel arrangement is slightly different now on Samsung screens, maybe this one will be the same

I searched extensively for it yesterday and so far there's no real information so we won't know until someone gets it and posts a close up shot from the screen. I'd do it if I could get my hands on one.

To be honest it isn't going to be a problem and it will be very sharp

It will be a problem if it's PenTile. Just look at S 8.4 (360ppi @ PenTile) versus S 10.5 (280ppi @ s-stripe RGB). The second one was infinitely sharper. I had to return my 8.4 inch and get the 10.5.
If this one is 280ppi @ PenTile, it's going to suck. Of course, it doesn't matter on phones because they're at 500+ ppi. It will matter at below 300ppi.

I very much doubt it will have that problem. Haven't heard any complain about that for a long time . I know what you mean though
There going to use the sharper technology especially being a few years on.. all the reviews say it's very sharp

I think the reason there haven't been complaints is precisely that Samsung stayed away from using PenTile on the Tab S2 and S3 lines. And phones are pretty high res already.
Reviewers saying it's very sharp is a good sign, it's probably RGB. But I'd have to confirm that before dropping money on this bad boy!

Yeah not surprised. I would be concerned too but I'm pretty confident they wouldnt go backwards on the screen quality. I'm getting mine tomorrow or Friday and will let you know ?

I received my Tab S4 yesterday and took a look under 30x magnification. It is not Pentile. It's the same configuration as devices like the TabPro S, Lenovo X1 Yoga, and Alienware R13, where each pixel is its own RGB trio, with the blue subpixel horizontally under the red or green. I've seen this referred to as "S Stripe."

Cheers man. Thanks a lot for doing this. I know it's a lot to ask, but would it be possible to take a picture? If it's not too inconvenient, of course.

The quality will be extremely poor since I'm using a camera through a handheld magnifier. The pixels are small enough to be difficult to see even by eye.

It has been some time since I looked at pixels of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 / 10.
I was under the impression the RGB Stripe was an equal size color. Same size RED same size Green Same size Blue.
The picture you showed is not the same.
My question is, isn't that totally different then back in the day " Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10" "?
I forgot what the 'pentile' looked like, I think it had smaller color on one color.
This new S4 shows 2 colors smaller and 1 bigger ( from your picture)
The reason I am curious is I just watched sakit*ch's (you know how to spell it) comparison of the S3 / S4 on U Tube (You know how to spell it) and the S3 has richer Greens while the S4 has richer browns. I know there is something different in the pixels between the S3 and S4, you can see it in his review.
Do you by chance have an S3 to show a picture like you did with the S4 :good:
Some references I am reading :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subpixel_rendering#Example_with_the_common_RGB_stripes_layout
https://www.tested.com/tech/smartphones/1868-pentile-vs-real-stripe-amoled-displays-whats-different/
I'm convinced, the S4 is NOT stripe. All 3 colors are not equal in size. (respectively speaking)

In a Pentile arrangement, each pixel doesn't have its own unique R, G, and B subpixel.
"S-Stripe" is name specific to Samsung. I don't think it refers to an equal sized R, G, and B subpixel, but only the fact that each pixel has its own R, G, and B subpixel. For example, the arrangements in the Tab 10.4 and Note 2 were both referred to as "S-Stripe" despite having different size subpixels.
I can't post links, but Wikipedia has images of the Note II's "S-Stripe" layout and AnandTech has images of the Tab S 10.4's "S-Stripe" layout. The Note II in particular has larger blue subpixels than red and green.

RGB stripe, like tab s1

Note II screen partially tinted

Hello everyone. Right below the notification bar, there is a tinted area going sideways. This appeared about a week ago. Only the display is affected, this doesn't appear in screen shots. When I get the device in landscape mode, the tinted area stays physically over the same pixels, so it's now upside down. I took pics of the phone by another phone. The quality is not so good but sharp eyes will notice it. Anyone had the same problem? Any ideas what should I do about this?

Hi! It's probably screen burn in, common with amoled displays, I had it quite bad on my old phone. Caused by spending a lot of time on the messaging app, in which the part below the notification bar was grey, and the rest white. Brighter sections of the screen age faster.
I assume you use your phone in portrait mode a majority of the time?

I spend much time on tapatalk and yes in portrait mode. After reading your response my eye caught the bright blue bar of tapatalk 2s stock black theme. Probably that bar caused this because the screen is so dark with this theme but that blue bar.
But this shouldn't be taken as user error right? I think I should get a replacement screen as this phone has been in my hands for just 6 months. I'm still in warranty period.
What do you think?

It's not an error, amoled screens age this way, it's quite normal.
I understand it's quite frustrating, once you see it, you can't unsee it.
Especially in just 6 months of use, I noticed this on my old Galaxy S after a year, and realized it was because I was on an AOSP rom for a few months which had white messaging with a grey bar.
They probably won't replace the screen, either saying there's nothing wrong with the display.
No loss trying, they might be nice enough to give you a new display! :good:

I see... But one expect at least a year to talk about aging. It's no big deal for now but if it gets darker I don't think I'd put up with it.

Agreed, 6 months doesn't speak much off the quality.
I considered it too, but Samsung devices always have Amoled, and I like Samsung hardware, even though a lot of their devices are faulty, including mine.
The LCD is one of the main reasons I like HTC hardware, better color tone.

Samsung Korea replaces panels for free if they can see a burn in. People there get quite worked up about this issue on amoled displays so Samsung does replace them quietly. Heck there's even people who leave the screen on blue (apparently the best colour for getting burn ins) and get them replaced on purpose. Not sure about anywhere else though. It's worth a try visiting a Samsung service centre if you can find one near you.

Hey, that's good news. I'll try talking to a center when I get time. Thank you very much.
tip for you guys. this issue with amoled screen is a common issue. you can check you note 2's screen burn by doing this test, open the Phone app and type *#0*#, check colors Red, Green and Blue (blue is most commonly affected). Note 2 is my 3rd smartphone with AMOLED screen for me. the first 2 phones got screenburned big time, but I took extra care of this one. it has a little screenburn in the notification area but you can hardly tell the difference even when testing it with the test I mentioned above.
here's 2 things to avoid: exposing screen to direct sunlight, keeping screen to full brightness al the time. better luck with next amoled screen.

Thanks for the tip. Good to know that there's a way to avoid this. I use this phone as a navigator when driving so it must have gotten a great deal of direct sunlight. I'll keep the flip cover shut when not using the maps now.
Thank you all guys.

[Q] Yellow Tint ?

I just received my LG G Pad 8.3 from Newegg last night. So far, it's been a great experience. Looks good. I bought a Tab 3 8.0 during a sale at Staples last week, but when I saw the Cyber Monday deal on new egg, I jumped on it.
My question is this : After running a few processor oriented programs ( Antutu stability, etc ) , when I open up a browser tab ( white background or something similar ) I notice a yellow thin line (not a single line, however.. its a little thick) at the top end of the screen ( towards the front camera ). It is much more visible when I use the tablet in landscape mode ( when the screen rotates - and the tint shows up on the left hand side of the tablet ).
Is this normal? I can feel the heat under the screen (it is warm under the tint area) but, the tint is visible and its noticeably yellow. I do not see the blue line as some of you have mentioned on the forums.
I am not sure if this is much of an issue, to require a return. But, I just want to make sure I don't have a tablet which has a screen issue. I noticed it last night while using it after an hour of use, so I think it's visible for the most part (because someone else did not mention it to me )
Does anybody else have this issue ?
Also, compared to the Tab 3 screen, the screen has almost a 30% decrease in brightness. E.g The tab 3 at 50% is equal to the screen brightness of the LG pad at 80%. Lastly, the screen does seem to be pretty warm (color K) in comparison to the Tab 3. I don't know if that is necessarily a bad thing, but I did notice that while doing a side by side comparison of the two tablets.
Any info on the above issue would be greatly appreciated

Unfortunately, due to my account being new, xda does not allow me to upload links or images. I've searched around the internet and I've read a couple of posts where people say that once the adhesive or "some other material " eases out on the screen, the tint slowly goes away (possibly a week or so) It is noticeably yellowish (color wise) in comparison to my Galaxy Tab 3. I'll keep on using it for the next week or so and see if the problem persists or declines.
I'll post pictures once my account reaches the link-free level. :good:

I don't see it either.
RMA'ed the device through NewEgg for a replacement. The screen looked very yellowish in comparison to some review videos (posted on youtube). In addition, I wasn't able to ignore the yellow line on the screen while viewing it on white backgrounds.
I'm disappointed with the brightness and color reproduction compared to my Tab 3 8.0, but since I paid a fair price for it (249),I'm keeping the device. I'm hoping the replacement device will be better than the first unit I received through NewEgg. I've read several varying posts on the screen. It seems to me that there are units with an overall yellowish tint on them, whereas others do not have this issue. My desktop monitor (HP zr24w) has pretty good color reproduction, and in comparing my unit to the unit being reviewed on screen, my device had a much much warmer screen overall.
It was very similar to running Flux on my desktop at 3800k. None of the reviews not mention anything about the screen being so warm. Once I receive a replacement, I'll update the thread. If the problem is isolated to certain devices, I'd advise a replacement or return.
Looks like I have the same problem with my G Pad. I have a yellow patch at the top left of the screen and bottom right also.
Seems to come and go depending on usage, so I assume it's heat related?

I don't have a problem with patches, but the colour accuracy of the display is terrible. Here is my G Pad at full brightness vs my full gamut RGB backlit IPS display at 80% brightness....

The photo makes things look vastly worse than the way the human eye perceives the difference, but there is no denying that the cast is significant.

I only had a quick glance at this thread but I too get a yellow tint in the top part of the screen when the tab gets a bit warmer.
Within ten minutes of watching full hd mkv the brightness also throttles down.

Appears to be quite a common issue. Returned my 4th lg pad today for this reason.
Will be gunning for the sammy 8.4...
Great idea by LG, very poor execution
4th one?????
That's just crazy and a shame because else the tab is really nice.
Ok...
I think the "yellow tint" may have something to do with the adhesive. Quite sure the Display is glued to the digitizer. I had may tab on and stressed for a few hours. You can see the discoloration on almost any background. Even black, just couldn't capture it in a photo.
Has anyone had the tint go away after some time?
This is the same tab after sitting in the fridge for around 5 minutes...
I would hence say it is a hardware issue and not software or kernel related as some suggest.

In your experience, does it go away with time?
I really loved the tab save for that bit...But if it stays like that forever, well...
It definately seems temperature related. As soon as the tab gets warmer the blotch/tint appears. When the tab cools down it goes away.
I don't know if it is some residual adhesive that has not dried/hardened out during manufacturing.
I still have a few days where I can just give it back, so I will be looking into it.

Such a beautiful device giving us so many problems...4 LGs. I don't think I have it in me to go for a 5th one..
Such a nice tab ruined by the screen. Never ever LG again. Unfortunately bought of private seller who didn't keep receipt (new and sealed) and lg doesn't stand behind their product.
From my experience: HTC - yes, Apple - yes, Samsung - yes, LG - warranty not transferable.
Avoid like a plague.

There is somebody working on that fix for your version now. Probably know something more in a week or so.
That would be nice but still won't be buying LG product again if they don't change their policy of transferring warranty to another end - user as other companies does.
As it looks like a batch of defective units they should respect warranty repair of product that has just been introduced and is well within 2 years warranty

Is this normal? Screen quality issue? (Looks very pixelated)

So I just got a new Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 from amazon, the first one they sent had dead pixels on it so I sent it back for a replacement. My second one came and things are looking pretty good except I've noticed the screen just doesn't look very crisp/sharp and icons/text look very pixelated when compared to my 3rd generation iPad or my new Nexus 5's screen. I took screen shots (of the lock screen, home screen, settings, etc..) on the note 10.1 and loaded it up on the iPad and the same screen shots look much sharper/better than on the iPad's screen. I believe the first one I got (with the dead pixels) had about the same pixelation/quality. It is very apparent when I look at the battery icon in the corner, it is appears very jagged and pixelated.
Before I go for another replacement, I'm wondering if the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is suppose to look like this or if both units I got just had issues with the screens. For a tablet with 2560x1600 resolution, I would have thought the picture quality would be much better (on par with the iPad or my nexus 5), but when I compare the screen quality of the note 10.1's to my iPad or my Nexus 5 it doesn't even come close.
Edit: Added photos with phone's camera (not great due to how poorly cameras generally capture lcd screens, but I think it shows what I'm talking about).

Well, I figured out the issue, the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 uses a PenTile RGBW screen. This causes me to basically see a checkerboard of pixels everywhere, it was more apparent with the green battery indicator icon. Not sure why they would use this technology, but I guess I'll have to look into a different tablet. Its a shame because I was quite looking forward to the Note 10.1.
I wish my eyes were good enough to see the individual pixels on the note 2014 display.
To me the battery icon looks solid green with no pixellation
You can see it if you out your eyes on the screen

Ok, I see the issue now, I decided to read up about it some more, here is a bit of a technical blog post. A person was explaining an issue similar to mine with Pentile's technology and they replied, in rather in depth detail http://pentileblog.com/oled/pentile-and-sharp-eyesight/
And I would highly suggest not putting your faces so close to the screens, you people are talking about 3 inches away, which is crazy, I took a tape measure and my eyes were really straining/hurting at about 3-4 inches, would imagine that not to be healthy for the eyes. My "close" viewing distance (if I'm holding it or laying down) is about 8-14 inches. My normal viewing distance (if its on my lap or the table) is about 19-23 inches (I took a tape measure to attempt to get an accurate measurement). At both my "close" and "normal" viewing distance I can see the checkerboard pattern on most solid colors (largely depends on the color) areas like backgrounds, text, and icons quite clearly.
So this seems like it would only effect certain individuals (would like to apologize to daddydark as I thought the issue was more wide spread). This is quite a disappointment for me as I am in the market for a new tablet and I have been interested in the galaxy note line for quite some time (hardly anyone puts a decent active stylus on their tablets). The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 seemed like a great choice with great specs, great listed resolution, reliable active stylus. Guess I'll have to look into a different product (the screen is just too distracting for me unfortunately).
But the screens amazing!!!

I can see the pixels
So, I went to a local best buy and we were both staring at the same screen (the sales rep an I), I asked him he could see the pixelation and he said he couldn't but I could, so oh well, at least he wasn't rude about it. After some research and looking at other options I will keep the tablet as it was exactly what I wanted and I will just buy like a Nexus 7 for recreational use (where I am most likely to notice the pixelation).
Since most people here really seem to be very rude or disrespectful about this topic, I would appreciate if people just stop posting in this thread (aka let it die), as it doesn't seem to be an issue with the product but with my eyes.

This guy really confuses me. Wasn't he the one being disrespectful about you being able to see the pixels? Oh well. I think the opinion of a sales rep won't really be of any help because they will say anything to get you to buy something considering that they probably work on commission. I can see the pixels, but I learned to live with it because I use the GS3 which also has the same pentile technology.

choji,
I have to get very close to see ANY pixilation. And I need a 6x magnifier to see it as well as the pictures you posted. But; I can't see near as well as I could 40 years ago either.
If you see enough to bother you from 12", then you have far better eyesight than most of us. There's nothing wrong with your eyes. That's the good news. The bad news is, you will be far more conscious of normal pixilation than others are. If I could have sight that good, I'd be willing to live with the pixilation on the icons.
Please don't read any rudeness or disrespect into my comments, none is intended.
If I may interject...
choji7 is specifically referring to the moire pattern visible on the green battery indicator on the shots of the samsung. But there is an explanation. And its not what he thinks.
The "live" battery indicator does have a crosshatch pattern. That is NOT a result of the pixel arrangement. It is the way the battery indicator was designed.
If you capture the screen, which he did in order to display it on an iPad, the Note seems to take a much lower res capture than the actual screen resolution. You can see this yourself if you capture a launcher screen, then show it in the gallery and then switch back to the live launcher. If you switch back and forth between the launcher and the gallery, you can't help but see that the capture is low res and lossy. The edges of icons look smooth on the launcher, but you will see edge pixels on the capture AND, most importantly, the battery indicator will magically be SOLID in the capture. So of course, if he displays the capture on the iPad, it will not show the pattern in the battery indicator as the capture eliminated it. If you look at the same capture on the Note, the battery indicator looks identical to the way it looks on the iPad. Its especially apparent if you enlarge the capture to show the battery indicator. It becomes a solid patch of green.
Mystery solved. Nothing wrong with the Note 10.1 screen.
My question is why is the default screen capture on the Note saving a very lossy, low-res image and how can you change it to lossless? I don't see an option to change that. The screen captures it made were tiny files of 3.7 MB PNG format. It should have been a much larger file at 2560x1600.

That's actually not the design of the battery icon. Rather, the battery icon looks like that because of the technology of the screen used. Samsung decided to put a RGBW matrix screen rather than the traditional RGB matrix. You can see the difference in the review gsmarena did comparing the iPad Retina and the Note 10.1 2014. Here are the pics showing the matrices.
This is the traditional RGB matrix:

I agree that some people have been disrespectful to you, I think most (inc myself) just find it hard to believe you can see any pixels on a screen which has the best screen possible in the tablet market. If you see pixels on this then surely you would see them on every tablet since the all have lower resolution. Anyways glad you decided to keep it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have....I love it.
-------------------
The only thing I noticed when I seen the the Note 10.1 on display at a local electronics store (Bare in mind it was very very heavily lit area) was these faint white/crystal matrix lines running all along the entire screen from top to bottom and the viewing angle had to be pretty precise to see it and had to focus on it a lot - LOL.
Basically imagine the RGBW matrix that notebooko just posted, identical to that however very faint. But it seems as though it was on the screen since the screen was on and thats when I seen it.
I havent been able to recreate it in the house but curious to what it is. Just a guess but maybe it could be some sort of filer for the RGBW display or something.

Screen brightness - NITS - Sunlight readability *** UPDATED ***

Brightness, however, is more middle-of-the-road, and more than once we found ourselves wishing we could crank the display up brighter while out in early afternoon sunlight – the Pixel XL is still visible enough, but a slightly brighter screen would sure help with usability.

The quad HD Super AMOLED display on the Pixel XL is gorgeous. Google claims its wide color gamut covers 91 percent of the Adobe RGB color range, and you can really see the richness of colors. It’s bright and easy to see outdoors, though it doesn’t get quite as crazy-bright in direct sunlight as the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge.

We recorded the Pixel XL's max brightness at 393 nits, which is a good deal less than the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (530 nits), though still better than some other Android flagships including the HTC 10 (371 nits) and LG G5 (354 nits).

Maximum brightness when displaying an all-white image is usually an issue with AMOLED panels, and that’s no exception on the Pixel XL. Brightness is below 400 nits here, and there is no sunlight brightness mode that gives this a boost above 500 nits, which is something Samsung provides on their AMOLED-laden Galaxy S7 series. Viewing in strong outdoor lighting is still possible, as AMOLED brightness isn’t directly tied to full-white brightness, but it’s not as good as top-end LCDs or the best AMOLEDs I’ve tested.

The Pixels' screens are a big step beyond the previous generation, coming close to matching the quality of Samsung's latest phones. Even under the bright sunlight of southern China, I had no problem using the Pixel XL outdoors. (And the display looked fantastic in the comparatively gloomy UK.) The smaller Pixel's screen is equally bright, though it doesn't quite match that of the Galaxy S7 in subjective outdoor tests.

The Pixel XL's 5.5" Quad HD Super AMOLED display is excellent. It offers adequate brightness outdoors, the superb viewing angles we've come to expect of AMOLED displays, and vivid contrast. Google also hasn't tuned the display to rigid color accuracy, instead seeming to end up somewhere between the typical oversaturation of, say, Samsung, and the highly-calibrated iPhone. Comparing to a Galaxy S7 edge in the "basic" mode, which is exceptionally accurate, the Pixel XL clearly provides more saturation of colors to give them the "pop" factor that most other OEMs using AMOLED displays do.

While the Pixel doesn’t have the best screens on a smartphone, they’re adequate or better than adequate. And I think you may find this to be a theme throughout this review. In many aspects, the Pixel is “safe” in terms of hardware. Like many phones, it’s not the best in direct sunlight, but this phone gets brighter than the Moto Z for example. It’s more than enough to get the job done, though. I was happy with the colors and vibrance of the display when watching videos and playing games.

Looks like it is AMOLED, so the screen brightness mod should work on it.
That's a good start.
Looking for that info as well. "Can I see the screen on a sunny day with sunglasses" is my gold standard. Most Sammy's are good with that, but would love a google phone again.
I would love a Samsung phone again.
But there is no AOSP/CM love for even the international bootloader unlocked Samsung.

Well for the international bootloader unlocked Samsung devices they use samsungs exynos processors and Samsung will not release source code for there processors so developers cant create kernels needed for AOSP/CM Roms! So don't say there is no love for AOSP/CM on Samsung devices! :highfive:

Who said it has the same panel of Note 7? Do you have a reliable source?
Yeah, I'm sure it's a Samsung panel like all the other phones with AMOLED.
But I kind of doubt it's a Note 7 specific panel.
And even if it is, it won't have the Samsung "Automatic High Brightness" feature that kicks up brightness to eye frying levels, since that is a firmware/software feature.
But there is an app on the Play Store which does something simliar to the Samsung High Brightness thing. Only works on some AMOLED displays:
High Brightness Mode Widget
I've never tried it but will do so if I ever get a Pixel (still debating due to the huge bezel size).
I would say it could be similar to the note 7 panel but def not the same one since the note 7 was 5.7 and the pixel xl is 5.5
doh, good point. hahah
I compared note 7 photo at max brightness with my 6p on high brightness mode with the same photo and the note 7 was still a tad bit brighter.
Nevertheless.... High brightness mode does come in handy on occasion when out in the sun
To my eyes, the 6P at 100% manual brightness was about 80-85% of manual brightness on the Note7; however, the 6P with the kernel driven high brightness enabled was in fact brighter than the Note7 at 100% manual brightness. But the Note7 punches right back with the "video enhancement" option enabled and when in gallery apps, or when its high auto brightness mode kicks in which would make it yet again brighter than the 6P.
The 6P can be manually forced (via kernel) at any time to be brighter than the Note7. The Note7 can only get brighter in video applications, or when driven by the auto brightness in high ambient light conditions or in sunlight.
Where the Note7 also really pulls ahead though, is outdoor visibility specifically due to its lack of reflection from the quality of the display glass itself... puts it into a class of its own which is where this difference becomes extremely noticeable out in the sun.

Here's my "real life" perspective on the 2 XL rather than an article from someone who gets paid / free product for their 'opinions'.
Phone Specs Comparison *the pic ratio they used is a bit off making the 2 XL look much larger than the 6P. It isn't.

Good job! The pictures with different backgrounds don't really show anything since they're different images. The white images correspond to exactly what I found comparing my 6P side-by-side with five different P2XL's on display at different Verizon stores (screen much brighter overall and not much difference in any blue-shifting). I compared the same wallpapers side-by-side and did note that the P2XL's were a little less vibrant but that, we know now, is being negated by an upcoming patch.

I'm not seeing the lack of display depth, or bluish tinting at angles that many are reporting.
The colors are different, but I would say more natural than washed out. I'll know more tomorrow when I take some pics outside, download some music, do some signal strength and wifi testing...
I was in a hurry to get these pics up for those worried about the blue tint when viewed at angles, and difference in color saturation, since the display seems to be the biggest deal breaker for many.
Nothing has made me think "I'm sending this thing back"...
Of course I've only had it about an hour, and haven't even switched the sim over yet.
It is slightly thinner side to side, but he display is higher and the screen kinda wraps around making it look like it's a solid piece of glass around the phone. Kinda hard to describe. Daylight pics will hopefully show this.
I can't even see any blue tint on the last few angled pics.
Screen just looks perfect for me
Let us know if you notice any burn-in. I wasn't worried about blue tint on angles as much as I was about that and the less vivid display. I waste spend almost an hour a day on Dice with Buddies and would hate to see dice imprinted on the display permanently :silly:
Thanks @Az Biker for the first looks!
Yeah I'm not seeing any blue tint at all.
Maybe you got a good one? Or all the blue tint ones are the bad ones.
Not sure at this point, lol.

The only time I see a blue shift is if the screen is all white. WHO has an all white wallpaper? And it's minimal at best. Pics to come.

IDK who uses white wallpapers, but apparently the is a big enough demand for several different white substratum themes. **Shudders violently**. Not that I'm looking for a new phone but could some of your future pictures have a lighter background, I wouldn't mind seeing the phones side by side in their entirety. TIA.
Have decided I'm not a fan of rounded screen corners and I hope the trend of tall, narrow, 18:9 phones die a quick and horrible death.

That's been the design standard for the a majority, if not, all of the flagships for 2017. 18:9/no 3.5mm might be the standard for a while longer, even going into the 2019, I bet.
White background, blue tint

Here's the 2 XL with the stock white wallpaper from above, and two 45-degree angles'
Blue shift hasn't be a bother to me yet. Colors are fine too, unless you're comparing side by side. I work with color calibrated monitors for a few hours a day and the P2XL looks fine. I'm more worried about screen burn in though. Luckily Google RMA is pretty easy.
Long live the P2XL ?
thank you for providing these pictures !
i have a request, could you please try to use a solid dark greyish (material) wallpaper on both and take pictures for us ?
would like to see if the pixel 2xl comes with any sort of banding !
i am aware of the many complaints about the (srgb pale looking colors) and the blue hue but neither of those would bug me, the screen is gorgeous.
the only thing i would be worried about is the banding (those ugly lines that appear /are visible when you have a solid background , e.g some dark grey /grey material substratum theme, and go to settings you will see those lines.)
i had that issue with my Moto Nexus 6 it was like that out of the package, did not use it for more than 3 months and went for the 6p (which i currently own and has no banding.)

Thank you. I hate to be a PITA, but what I was looking for was a side by side with the 6P under bright light so I could compare the Pixel to a known quantity. All I'm really getting an image of is the screens.
Like I said though, I'm not planning on getting a new phone any time soon (if I get the 6P battery death anytime soon and don't opt for battery replacement, I'd probably get the OP 5). I tend to use them until they suffer some sort of hardware failure that renders them useless as a phone, so it's not that big of a deal - enjoy your weekend.

Oh man, thanks for reminding me of that god-awful decision . I'm one of those people that prefers my headphones wired, and uses the Jack to connect to my sound system
@Az Biker have you checked for any burn-in issues yet?
This from an Android Central reporter has me a bit concerned
I have also seen videos where people report no burn-in as of yet...so maybe it is batch related?

I was waiting a few days to let this thing have a chance to get burn in before reporting on it.
I see ZERO evidence of burn in at all. I'll attach a grey background pic (like the online reviewers are using)...
The way I see it, IF it were to get screen burn in or artifacts remained on the display, it's just a warranty replacement for a new 2 XL.... win-win (always look for that silver lining)

I took comparison shots with same grey background,in bright artificial light, and outside in direct sunlight. with angles. Let me know if these aren't what you're looking for.
6P left, 2 XL right, Inside, normal lighting, solid grey background (brightness about 70%)

The 2 XL comes with a charging port 3.5mm adapter
There 's a pic of the accessories that come with the device in the OP.

Thanks for the bright light comparison pics. Those top and bottom bezels on the Pixel are ones I wished the 6P had, only "complaint" I have with the Nexus. Just really dislike that 18:9 screen.
Saw the adapter in the OP, unfortunately I occasionally have my phone charging while using the headphone jack. I am assuming that it is not an adapter that does both at once, if they even make those yet.

I originally hated 18 9 when it came out, but I love how huge this phone is, yet how small it is. It's the same size as my OnePlus 5, but has a 10% larger display, less bezels AND front facing speakers.
