So I just got a new Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 from amazon, the first one they sent had dead pixels on it so I sent it back for a replacement. My second one came and things are looking pretty good except I've noticed the screen just doesn't look very crisp/sharp and icons/text look very pixelated when compared to my 3rd generation iPad or my new Nexus 5's screen. I took screen shots (of the lock screen, home screen, settings, etc..) on the note 10.1 and loaded it up on the iPad and the same screen shots look much sharper/better than on the iPad's screen. I believe the first one I got (with the dead pixels) had about the same pixelation/quality. It is very apparent when I look at the battery icon in the corner, it is appears very jagged and pixelated.
Before I go for another replacement, I'm wondering if the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is suppose to look like this or if both units I got just had issues with the screens. For a tablet with 2560x1600 resolution, I would have thought the picture quality would be much better (on par with the iPad or my nexus 5), but when I compare the screen quality of the note 10.1's to my iPad or my Nexus 5 it doesn't even come close.

Well, I figured out the issue, the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 uses a PenTile RGBW screen. This causes me to basically see a checkerboard of pixels everywhere, it was more apparent with the green battery indicator icon. Not sure why they would use this technology, but I guess I'll have to look into a different tablet. Its a shame because I was quite looking forward to the Note 10.1.
I wish my eyes were good enough to see the individual pixels on the note 2014 display.
To me the battery icon looks solid green with no pixellation

And I would highly suggest not putting your faces so close to the screens, you people are talking about 3 inches away, which is crazy, I took a tape measure and my eyes were really straining/hurting at about 3-4 inches, would imagine that not to be healthy for the eyes. My "close" viewing distance (if I'm holding it or laying down) is about 8-14 inches. My normal viewing distance (if its on my lap or the table) is about 19-23 inches (I took a tape measure to attempt to get an accurate measurement). At both my "close" and "normal" viewing distance I can see the checkerboard pattern on most solid colors (largely depends on the color) areas like backgrounds, text, and icons quite clearly.
So this seems like it would only effect certain individuals (would like to apologize to daddydark as I thought the issue was more wide spread). This is quite a disappointment for me as I am in the market for a new tablet and I have been interested in the galaxy note line for quite some time (hardly anyone puts a decent active stylus on their tablets). The Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 seemed like a great choice with great specs, great listed resolution, reliable active stylus. Guess I'll have to look into a different product (the screen is just too distracting for me unfortunately).

The problem is you can look at every tablet out there, and non have the same resolution with pen support. Sad but true.
There's nothing wrong the screen, you can only see the pixels if you look at distances your not suppose too, and I have a keen eye

So, I went to a local best buy and we were both staring at the same screen (the sales rep an I), I asked him he could see the pixelation and he said he couldn't but I could, so oh well, at least he wasn't rude about it. After some research and looking at other options I will keep the tablet as it was exactly what I wanted and I will just buy like a Nexus 7 for recreational use (where I am most likely to notice the pixelation).
Since most people here really seem to be very rude or disrespectful about this topic, I would appreciate if people just stop posting in this thread (aka let it die), as it doesn't seem to be an issue with the product but with my eyes.

This guy really confuses me. Wasn't he the one being disrespectful about you being able to see the pixels? Oh well. I think the opinion of a sales rep won't really be of any help because they will say anything to get you to buy something considering that they probably work on commission. I can see the pixels, but I learned to live with it because I use the GS3 which also has the same pentile technology.

I have to get very close to see ANY pixilation. And I need a 6x magnifier to see it as well as the pictures you posted. But; I can't see near as well as I could 40 years ago either.
If you see enough to bother you from 12", then you have far better eyesight than most of us. There's nothing wrong with your eyes. That's the good news. The bad news is, you will be far more conscious of normal pixilation than others are. If I could have sight that good, I'd be willing to live with the pixilation on the icons.

choji7 is specifically referring to the moire pattern visible on the green battery indicator on the shots of the samsung. But there is an explanation. And its not what he thinks.
The "live" battery indicator does have a crosshatch pattern. That is NOT a result of the pixel arrangement. It is the way the battery indicator was designed.
If you capture the screen, which he did in order to display it on an iPad, the Note seems to take a much lower res capture than the actual screen resolution. You can see this yourself if you capture a launcher screen, then show it in the gallery and then switch back to the live launcher. If you switch back and forth between the launcher and the gallery, you can't help but see that the capture is low res and lossy. The edges of icons look smooth on the launcher, but you will see edge pixels on the capture AND, most importantly, the battery indicator will magically be SOLID in the capture. So of course, if he displays the capture on the iPad, it will not show the pattern in the battery indicator as the capture eliminated it. If you look at the same capture on the Note, the battery indicator looks identical to the way it looks on the iPad. Its especially apparent if you enlarge the capture to show the battery indicator. It becomes a solid patch of green.
Mystery solved. Nothing wrong with the Note 10.1 screen.
My question is why is the default screen capture on the Note saving a very lossy, low-res image and how can you change it to lossless? I don't see an option to change that. The screen captures it made were tiny files of 3.7 MB PNG format. It should have been a much larger file at 2560x1600.

That's actually not the design of the battery icon. Rather, the battery icon looks like that because of the technology of the screen used. Samsung decided to put a RGBW matrix screen rather than the traditional RGB matrix. You can see the difference in the review gsmarena did comparing the iPad Retina and the Note 10.1 2014. Here are the pics showing the matrices.

I agree that some people have been disrespectful to you, I think most (inc myself) just find it hard to believe you can see any pixels on a screen which has the best screen possible in the tablet market. If you see pixels on this then surely you would see them on every tablet since the all have lower resolution. Anyways glad you decided to keep it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have....I love it.

The only thing I noticed when I seen the the Note 10.1 on display at a local electronics store (Bare in mind it was very very heavily lit area) was these faint white/crystal matrix lines running all along the entire screen from top to bottom and the viewing angle had to be pretty precise to see it and had to focus on it a lot - LOL.
Basically imagine the RGBW matrix that notebooko just posted, identical to that however very faint. But it seems as though it was on the screen since the screen was on and thats when I seen it.
I havent been able to recreate it in the house but curious to what it is. Just a guess but maybe it could be some sort of filer for the RGBW display or something.

Hi, I really want to buy a Desire but when I tried it in a store I could easily notice the fuziness caused by the Pentile subpixel layout. This was on white text on a medium coloured background - I've read it's worst on black/white. I also looked at the Galaxy S and the fuzziness was much less noticable - I just hate the look and feel of that phone.
The problem is I have a pretty low tolerance to small details like that and pretty good eyesight, so I was wondering if anyone here is as anal about visual flaws as me but happily lives with the Desire's screen? I want my next phone purchace to last a couple of years at least...
I also thought it might be nice to wait and see if HTC release a Desire with a S-LCD screen - sharpness wins over deep blacks for me considering the other potential flaws with the AMOLED screens. Any thoughts?
(If the Wildfire had either an AMOLED RGB screen or a higher resolution LCD then I'd just settle for that - it looks sexy enough to live with the lack of power.)
any thoughts? eh, sure. I don't see the the "potential flaws" of AMOLED screens at all. Sure a true LCD display will have sharper definition for black on white text, but I hardly would clal my Desire screen blurred or fuzzy. I think its fine. I do a lot of reading on the net too and its absolutely fine, but you are right an LCD like iPhone is sharper for text.
I prefer the colours and the perfect blacks myself. Makes using the phone for watching movies etc a pleasure. If you use it just for very small text though, get something else. If your as picky as you seem, you will definitely have problems with this one with its amoled screen. I won't even mention the over saturated colours or the pink hue when viewing grays. You won't like that either.
i compared the screen on my desire to my friends new iphone 4 and honestly i could only tell the difference when i got so close it was physically hurting my eyes to focus on it, i really think that the screen on the desire is top and i dont seem to have much trouble with it in the daylight either for some reason

Yeah, daylight didn't seem to be an issue at all, compared to other devices I've used over the years.
I definitely see a huge difference between Desire and iPhone 4 though. Desire is actually about on par with the previous iPhones in terms of actual blurryness, but the fact the pattern is staggered makes it more noticeable.

No the pink hue effects all AMOLED screens when displaying certain gray shades. I suggest you read the sticky post all about the AMOLED Pentile display and how it works.
Is the Desire available with S-LCD? If not, whats the point? Just get yourself a phone with LCD and be happy. The power drain on a desire with LCD would be significantly increased too. Sure AMOLED uses more on a 100% white screen, but it use much less on darker themed screens or coloured screens.
I've read the sticky and think I have a good grasp of the issue, but I've seen reports from people saying the pinkness varies.
I also have 20/20 vision and this screen is fine, the only times I'm disappointed is while text is scrolling there is a visable wave in the letters and outdoor in direct sunlight you need to find the good angle to read.

I used to be very anal about my phone. And of course you might be different but for me trying to choose the perfect one / making the perfect one ever more perfect just does not work. Huge effort, lots of frustration, little or no results and even the ones you get are brief. That's the problem with this attitude - you'll just always find another flaw to frown upon.
What worked for me was taking positive action rather than getting rid of all the faults. I implemented Allen's GTD system and I'm using my phone as a collection/organisation tool. Works great and now my phone is a very useful tool instead of being just a gadget. Flaws don't matter anymore. And with GTD I can be as anal as I only wish and still happy
BTW totally agree on Galaxy S. It's so much better phone than Desire but it's simply atrocious. Couldn't bear the thought of carrying something that makes me wanna puke for next 2/3 years.

Pink hue is not AMOLED related since it shows also in software emulator (on PC) and varies among phones. Sticky post is wrong all around but arguments for that are buried too deep in long thread.
AS for OP, HTC announced LCD Desire, and I would like to see one. I can notice PenTile artifacts and don't like it (together with over saturated colors and pink hue), but phone is so good in other segments it is worth owning.

Yeah sure the screen has some negatives about it but when compared side to side to my old iPhone's screen its blows the iPhone out of the water. I prefer AMOLED because I can turn it up full brightness and not be blinded by an annoying backlight that make sthe phone more suitable as a flashlight than a screen.

Anyway, thanks for all the replies guys. On the way home I had a look at the Desire again in another store and found the screen a lot more agreeable. I tried it sitting down, making me naturally hold it a couple of inches farther away, which makes a big difference. Plus I had more of an "how nice is this display?" attitude rather than "can I notice the flaw?"
So I came home and ordered one online. If the text bugs me that much, I can always stick to my Axim for ebooks.
edit: Still eager to see what S-LCD brings to the table, though.

Did you know that PenTile OLED was in tens of thousands of cell phones for over a year before anyone noticed that they were different? If one has to be told that they are different... well that tells me that they work as designed.
Full Disclosure: I'm one of the inventors of PenTile technology.
PenTile technology was actually designed with a specific minimum distance from which to view it. Bring it too close to one's eyes, one will see the pattern. Actually the same thing also happens with the legacy RGB Stripe matrix, but since one is used to seeing that pattern, one mentally filters it out. The same should happen with the PenTile screen, once one is used to seeing it, one no longer "sees" it, if you can pardon my circular explanation, but it's true. If you use the phone at a more comfortable distance, as opposed to as close to your eyes as you can get, the screen will appear as intended.

I definitely would have noticed it if I didn't know in advance. (I'm not trying to imply there's anything good about extreme pickiness - it's a compulsive disorder and a bloody nightmare.)
I appreciate the minimum distance thing, but obviously it varies with eyesight - hence the brief controversy over Apple's 'retina' claims. It's just going to require a slight adjustment to my habits while standing to compensate for this.
As for the RGB thing, I feel that's easier to mentally filter out because it's consistent vertically whereas Pentile alternates the relatively larger red/blue subpixels. I imagine this is why the effect was less noticeable on the Galaxy S's RGBW layout, despite the slightly lower DPI?

As above, I think this is subjective. Some people stare at their phones looking for dust, looking for a hint of pink, looking for a mark in the case, looking for... etc etc etc... If you want to treat it like that you will be a very miserable camper. It's a phone, it has an average lifespan of 2 years probably. Use it. It reminds of these people who own a beautiful Ferrari but on't drive it. just keep it in a garage and rub it with a cloth. whats the point?
I think the only thing thats variable on the pink hue thing is the persons opinion of how pink it is. not noticeable or noticeable. some people will say its not there, some people will say it sso pink they cannot even see any other colours.
I had my eyes colour calibrated in a 16 hour operation at an optical lab in switzerland 4 weeks ago, they now recognise 400 shades of pink and have 20/20 vision, so I KNOW my phone has pink. etc etc LOL

Sorry, but all your arguments don't add up. On LCD screens i have perfectly straight horizontal and vertical lines, there is no need to filter out anything.
On PenTile displays i dont have straight lines because of the pattern that is used. THAT is the problem. Lines look like zigzag-lines not straight ones. And no i'm not looking at my phone from 1 cm distance, i'm looking at it from a normal distance and i can see the pentile effect on my Nexus One. I also had a Motorola Milestone which comes with an LCD that surpasses any AMOLED PenTile screen quality regarding resolution. (while both claim to have wvga)
There is a very easy test for this. Take a Motorola Droid and a Nexus One. Place them side by side and open a webpage on full zoomed out view. You will see the difference in resolution quality VERY clearly. Anybody who claims that there is no difference is lying. You can't just imply that the eye can't see an difference because there are many people out there with normal eyesight (i'm not talking about eagle eyes here) which see the pentile pattern too clearly.
The whole topic is quite frustrating because when buying a nexus one you make one step forward (generall hardware) and two steps back (pentile).

This is a a very short review of my imported Nexus from Expansys. This will go over more nitpick feature some us care about about in terms on quality not the phone.
On thing that is strange to me is that I have 4.01 out of the box but mine also came with a US charger, I have read that expansys sent adapters for others. If this is an import how did I get the US charger inside? Did this happen to anyone else?
The phone is very light and impressive, ICS is agreat OS right away.
Screen Issue - My eyes are sharp and within 30 seconds I can see these displays have the same issues as the GSII seen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320942
It very obvious on grey's but heard to see in the systems blues. The screen shots in the link is still an issue even though its a pentile display.
Pentile - I hate pentile so much its not funny, I actuallly hope they go out of business but I have to say it way easier on the eyes the the lower resolutions displays. I have to squint to see the ridges but they are still there plain as day.
If you hate pentile I would say that this has a 65-70% chance that this phone will not bother you.
Stutters - I am disappointed that 2 of 5 button press to the app drawer produces that little stutter. I can make it constantly happen and I have installed zero apps yet nor messed with widgets.
I love the phone and don't get me wrong I am not dissing the phone just an impression from someone who has had almost every model that came out.
I did not post anything positive on purpose because so many articles already did a great job of highlighting the good stuff.
Hello everyone. Right below the notification bar, there is a tinted area going sideways. This appeared about a week ago. Only the display is affected, this doesn't appear in screen shots. When I get the device in landscape mode, the tinted area stays physically over the same pixels, so it's now upside down. I took pics of the phone by another phone. The quality is not so good but sharp eyes will notice it. Anyone had the same problem? Any ideas what should I do about this?

Hi! It's probably screen burn in, common with amoled displays, I had it quite bad on my old phone. Caused by spending a lot of time on the messaging app, in which the part below the notification bar was grey, and the rest white. Brighter sections of the screen age faster.
I assume you use your phone in portrait mode a majority of the time?

I spend much time on tapatalk and yes in portrait mode. After reading your response my eye caught the bright blue bar of tapatalk 2s stock black theme. Probably that bar caused this because the screen is so dark with this theme but that blue bar.
But this shouldn't be taken as user error right? I think I should get a replacement screen as this phone has been in my hands for just 6 months. I'm still in warranty period.
What do you think?

It's not an error, amoled screens age this way, it's quite normal.
I understand it's quite frustrating, once you see it, you can't unsee it.
Especially in just 6 months of use, I noticed this on my old Galaxy S after a year, and realized it was because I was on an AOSP rom for a few months which had white messaging with a grey bar.
They probably won't replace the screen, either saying there's nothing wrong with the display.
No loss trying, they might be nice enough to give you a new display! :good:

Agreed, 6 months doesn't speak much off the quality.
I considered it too, but Samsung devices always have Amoled, and I like Samsung hardware, even though a lot of their devices are faulty, including mine.
The LCD is one of the main reasons I like HTC hardware, better color tone.

Samsung Korea replaces panels for free if they can see a burn in. People there get quite worked up about this issue on amoled displays so Samsung does replace them quietly. Heck there's even people who leave the screen on blue (apparently the best colour for getting burn ins) and get them replaced on purpose. Not sure about anywhere else though. It's worth a try visiting a Samsung service centre if you can find one near you.

tip for you guys. this issue with amoled screen is a common issue. you can check you note 2's screen burn by doing this test, open the Phone app and type *#0*#, check colors Red, Green and Blue (blue is most commonly affected). Note 2 is my 3rd smartphone with AMOLED screen for me. the first 2 phones got screenburned big time, but I took extra care of this one. it has a little screenburn in the notification area but you can hardly tell the difference even when testing it with the test I mentioned above.
here's 2 things to avoid: exposing screen to direct sunlight, keeping screen to full brightness al the time. better luck with next amoled screen.

Thanks for the tip. Good to know that there's a way to avoid this. I use this phone as a navigator when driving so it must have gotten a great deal of direct sunlight. I'll keep the flip cover shut when not using the maps now.

I just received my LG G Pad 8.3 from Newegg last night. So far, it's been a great experience. Looks good. I bought a Tab 3 8.0 during a sale at Staples last week, but when I saw the Cyber Monday deal on new egg, I jumped on it.
My question is this : After running a few processor oriented programs ( Antutu stability, etc ) , when I open up a browser tab ( white background or something similar ) I notice a yellow thin line (not a single line, however.. its a little thick) at the top end of the screen ( towards the front camera ). It is much more visible when I use the tablet in landscape mode ( when the screen rotates - and the tint shows up on the left hand side of the tablet ).
Is this normal? I can feel the heat under the screen (it is warm under the tint area) but, the tint is visible and its noticeably yellow. I do not see the blue line as some of you have mentioned on the forums.
I am not sure if this is much of an issue, to require a return. But, I just want to make sure I don't have a tablet which has a screen issue. I noticed it last night while using it after an hour of use, so I think it's visible for the most part (because someone else did not mention it to me )
Does anybody else have this issue ?
Also, compared to the Tab 3 screen, the screen has almost a 30% decrease in brightness. E.g The tab 3 at 50% is equal to the screen brightness of the LG pad at 80%. Lastly, the screen does seem to be pretty warm (color K) in comparison to the Tab 3. I don't know if that is necessarily a bad thing, but I did notice that while doing a side by side comparison of the two tablets.
Any info on the above issue would be greatly appreciated :laugh:

Unfortunately, due to my account being new, xda does not allow me to upload links or images. I've searched around the internet and I've read a couple of posts where people say that once the adhesive or "some other material " eases out on the screen, the tint slowly goes away (possibly a week or so) It is noticeably yellowish (color wise) in comparison to my Galaxy Tab 3. I'll keep on using it for the next week or so and see if the problem persists or declines.
I'll post pictures once my account reaches the link-free level. :good:

I don't see it either.
RMA'ed the device through NewEgg for a replacement. The screen looked very yellowish in comparison to some review videos (posted on youtube). In addition, I wasn't able to ignore the yellow line on the screen while viewing it on white backgrounds.
I'm disappointed with the brightness and color reproduction compared to my Tab 3 8.0, but since I paid a fair price for it (249),I'm keeping the device. I'm hoping the replacement device will be better than the first unit I received through NewEgg. I've read several varying posts on the screen. It seems to me that there are units with an overall yellowish tint on them, whereas others do not have this issue. My desktop monitor (HP zr24w) has pretty good color reproduction, and in comparing my unit to the unit being reviewed on screen, my device had a much much warmer screen overall.
It was very similar to running Flux on my desktop at 3800k. None of the reviews not mention anything about the screen being so warm. Once I receive a replacement, I'll update the thread. If the problem is isolated to certain devices, I'd advise a replacement or return.
Looks like I have the same problem with my G Pad. I have a yellow patch at the top left of the screen and bottom right also.
Seems to come and go depending on usage, so I assume it's heat related?

I only had a quick glance at this thread but I too get a yellow tint in the top part of the screen when the tab gets a bit warmer.
Within ten minutes of watching full hd mkv the brightness also throttles down.

Appears to be quite a common issue. Returned my 4th lg pad today for this reason.
Will be gunning for the sammy 8.4...

I think the "yellow tint" may have something to do with the adhesive. Quite sure the Display is glued to the digitizer. I had may tab on and stressed for a few hours. You can see the discoloration on almost any background. Even black, just couldn't capture it in a photo.
Has anyone had the tint go away after some time?
This is the same tab after sitting in the fridge for around 5 minutes...
I would hence say it is a hardware issue and not software or kernel related as some suggest.

It definately seems temperature related. As soon as the tab gets warmer the blotch/tint appears. When the tab cools down it goes away.
I don't know if it is some residual adhesive that has not dried/hardened out during manufacturing.
I still have a few days where I can just give it back, so I will be looking into it.

Such a beautiful device giving us so many problems...4 LGs. I don't think I have it in me to go for a 5th one..
Such a nice tab ruined by the screen. Never ever LG again. Unfortunately bought of private seller who didn't keep receipt (new and sealed) and lg doesn't stand behind their product.
From my experience: HTC - yes, Apple - yes, Samsung - yes, LG - warranty not transferable.
Avoid like a plague.

There is somebody working on that fix for your version now. Probably know something more in a week or so.
That would be nice but still won't be buying LG product again if they don't change their policy of transferring warranty to another end - user as other companies does.
As it looks like a batch of defective units they should respect warranty repair of product that has just been introduced and is well within 2 years warranty

Mine also has that line. Its not as noticeable as your picture. I did return another one due to the same line. The previous tab had once turned on. It didn't have to be running foe a long time.

However most issues pop AFTER we get our hands on the tablet. As such, I would like to ask the owners. Hand over heart - what are the + and - and what are the most common issues (if any) reported with this tablet?

There were some early assembly issues (S Pen loose in silo, speaker grills uneven or loose, BT connectivity issues) that seem to have abated because after the wave of early builds they haven't been mentioned lately. If you're a lag-freak the N10.1-14 does suffer from the occasional transition stutter or milliseconds of lag opening and closing apps. I'd peg it as lag free 95% of the time. We're getting Magazine UX/4.4 soon and the Tab/Pro's shown on video from their CES launch looked much smoother than the N10.1-14. Do you have better than 20/20 vision? A couple of people who do (or apparently do) have noticed some display anomalies when looking at certain content; most likely because of the N10.1-14's RGBW PenTile display. I can't replicate it but have only mere mortal vision.
The top reasons to get the N10.1-14 are:
Display. I think it's gorgeous no matter what anyone else says and I compare it against my N3 everyday.
Form factor. Amazingly light, slim, and small for a 10" tablet.
Doing stuff. S Pen, S Note, Multi View, Action Memo, Scrap Book and the like are huge productivity benefits and once you start using them they are hard to live without. I'm on my second round of "Notes" with the N3 and N10.1-14 replacing my N2 and N10.1-12.
The top reasons not to buy it:
You're a pure consumption user. All of the extra features of the N10.1-14 use a lot of resources and if you're not going to use them will just be annoying. You pay a lot of money for the N10.1-14 because of those features (and premium h/w that's needed to power them) and to not use them will leave you frustrated.
You're a lag-freak. As it stands there's some stuttering, hesitation, and lag about 5% of the time. It's most prominent when there's a bunch of background processing going on. Some of the proprietary apps can throw up a spinning wheel while they're processing. For example you can move content between two apps open in Multi View. It's not always instant. You can also use Air Command to copy full screens of content from various sources to be saved in your Scrap Book. It too isn't instant.
You have super human vision or live-and-die by a "perfect" display. Some people here (a half dozen?) are really freaking out about some anomalies they've detected in the display. Interestingly, other than a single reviewer who actually has 20/15 vision mentioning he noticed "something different" about the display no one outside XDA has mentioned what some folks here have found/described. The difference between a RGB display and the N10.1-14's PenTile display is that because of an indirect sub-pixel arrangement, in certain situations like specific saturated colors on specific backgrounds, there can be detectable imperfections on certain content. Since you're leaving the G Pad over its display do yourself (and the forum ) a favor and make sure your display expectations are met before you buy a N10.1-14.

I have owned (and loved) an S4 before it got stolen and I moved to my Z1.
I never had an issue with Samsung, but I do remember the occasional lag/stutter. I think it's to be used to.
The main reasons why I opted for the 10.1 are:
- The stylus + multi window. I do a lot of reading/writing and I often carry a paperbook around when I read a book to keep notes. But I am not the most tidy of persons, and I thought that operating a 10.1 in multiwindow instead would allow me to keep notes as I kindled through content.
- The specs appear future proof and XDA appears to have a good community for customing Samsungs. With cleanroms and what not, I am hoping to be able to keep the functionality of the Stylus along with a more lag free experience.
- Yes, I enjoy my movies and online magazine content, so the screen is important to me.
I will order one and hope to see it arrive by tomorrow. I can always return it within 7 days, but I doubt I will (Light bleed or faulty screens however are an immediate no go for me ! )

Up until a few days ago everyone here almost universally loved the display. A couple of people started ragging on it just recently. I wouldn't have even mentioned the display as anything but "outstanding" if not for those few people's recent comments. I've tried to replicate each of the scenarios they are bothered by and just can't. One of them admitted to 20/15 vision so s/he may be seeing imperfections I don't. People that have bought the N10.1-14 on my recommendation (with the display playing a large part) have been universally pleased.
As for lag and such my i7 gaming desktop with 12GB of RAM and 10K RPM drives lags occasionally. I shrug while others will blow away and rebuild Windows over it. To each their own.
Based on what you've described you'll be blown away by the N10.1-14's productivity features. But give them some time before drawing a conclusion. Being developed by Asian's for Western users the functionality isn't always intuitive or well presented. It is logical though and the more you use it the more comfortable you become with it.
I have a 3G version that I bought in the U.S. as an import and paid an un-Godly price for it. Almost twice the $389 some people that are complaining about certain aspects of the N10.1-14 paid during a recent refurb promotion that ran. I'm happy but it's hard to anticipate what makes others happy. After the past couple of days of pretty brutal discussion on lag and the display (which I don't personally agree with) I've learned not to project my expectations and what satisfies them on to others.
Based on your list I think you'll be happy though. And even happier when we get moved to 4.4/M-UX which is imminent because leaks have started to appear.

Just came home from pc world and saw the note...
It has yellow discoloration at the edges, and on the sides, visible on the whites..Just like the lg g pads i was forced to return...
I am terrified my unit tomorrow will suffer from the same. Can I be that unlucky?

I also do not notice the PenTile grid that some people keep pointing out on the Note 10.1 2014. I've seen the PenTile grid a couple times on my Galaxy S3 when fooling with the brightness and depending on the lighting, but I've yet to see it on my Note 10.1 2014.
As Barry has mentioned, there are a lot of different factors that could be an issue for some folks. If you have the brightness up, you're sitting under a bright light, you have better than average eye sight, there are many reasons you could see an anomaly or part of the device such as the PenTile grid.
Generally the picture is really crisp and clear unless I load a website that is using some low resolution images on the site. Those appear fuzzy and stand out compared to the crisp text.

No,no, I had a friend with me. We were both mocking Ipads and how they had a known yellow tint issue on left hand side.
Then I walked over to the note 10.1 2014 (mine is arriving tomorrow by delivery), and against whites there was an obvious yellow discoloration on the bottom right corner, as if from leftover adhesive or what not. I've not read ANYTHING like that for the notes, but I just finished returning the 4th lg g pad over it (if you go over to the lg g pad section of xda, under general and QA/Screen quality, you will see what I speak of..)
At this point all I can do is pray haha
Good luck with your note. I have had mine for a few months now and have yet to experience any sort of issues with the screen. Demo units at stores I think are more likely to have issues because of the amount of wear and abuse they get rom random people/kids fondling them.
So far this tablet is totally forgotten by Samsung.
I'm still at mj6 for 3 months, the tablet lags , the lock screen takes 3 secs to wake up and Samsung does not even care.
My advice stay away from note 10.1 2014.
Why care for a product that's already forgotten by the manufacturer?

I've hard of occasional lag but I doubt a 3-4 month old tab has been forgotten
Well here is my first review.
A beautiful tablet, but a bit on the heavy side. Unfortunately I am returning this one as well - severe light bleeding on the bottom and right side in landscape mode. at least 8-9 spots illuminating the screen.
I think God's telling me to drop the tablet idea altogether..
I might try once more with the note though, it really does look beautiful

This tablet is fast and smooth. I have noticed light bleed on all tablets that I have owned (nexus 7, nexus 7 2013, Asus Tranformer Ifinity TF-701, Samsung Note 10.1 2014.
I am happy with this new tablet, since some selfish bastard broke into my house and stole my TF-701. This tablet by far has the best resolution, and the best display of all I have owned. The light bleed is minimal compared to the nexus 7s.
Maybe I got a good one, or I have just gotten used to light bleed on larger formats.
I would recommend this tablet, as long as you are comfortable with Touchwiz, and Samsung's way of doing things.

It looks wonderful but mine had severe light bleeding, 6 distinct spots at left side, 4 at bottom, nothing symmetrical about them. Getting one from John lewis tomorrow hoping I will be lucky ☺

New unit light bleed as well. 5 spots at bottom (which i didn't really mind, small ones), big one at top though...
Let's see how the next one does. I'll be getting a note, for sure. But I want to get bang for my buck Thank God for John Lewis return service, so let's see...
P.S. Whomever stated that Ipad air is superior to this device is a moron like no other...
I just picked one up about 2 hours ago from Brandsmart. With the display at 100% on a black background it has 6 at the bottom. It looks like small spot lights shinning up. It's charging now but if I notice it with normal use I will return it. I also have the tab 3 10.1 I got for Xmas. It had a few bad spots so I swapped it out. Now I'm good to go. Some are just worse then others. Kind of like women

P.S., this is the second one., compared to my new N 7 2013. First was FAR worse. Seeing this comparison I think I'll pass on the excuse that lightbleeding is part of the LCD technology

Whatever note you get you will get light bleed, but don't see the problem if it isn't noticeable in normal use, I never sit in dark room with the brightness full with a black screen, do u?

It was visible watching a movie full brightness in a lit room, and very noticeable at 40% brightness in a dark room. For 450 pounds I definitely have a problem with it especially since my travelling budget device (199 pounds) out performs with same style of panel...

Mine is fine. At 100% brightness on a black background it shows a little on some angles but watching movies or viewing pics it's not bleeding into the screen.
