AS the title states, is HTC slowly becoming a Samsung clone, as about software updates?
I even sent a message to them 5 days ago, asking about delivery of official 2.3 and no response yet. WTF?
I bought an HTC phone (actually 3 in a row, Magic-Desire-Desire HD) cause i thought that they were much better than Samsung in support. That is why all of us bought their flagship phone.
Maybe is time to go for Atrix or Optimus 2X when they appear.
The simple answer is no, they wont.
You'll get 2.3 on your DHD eventually, just be patient! Would you rather they rush it and it be full of bugs, or they take their time and it be have less bugs?
If you want fastest updates trade DHD for Nexus S
PS - You think Samsung are bad? LG are worse!
thanks. but if Ns was available in Greece i would. The that has made me mad is that the aren't even answering at all.

Google only recently released the source code, do you expect htc to port sence over night?
I don't think they should port sense overnight... but...its like nearly 2months now. What annoys me with HTC is you buy their latest flagship device, only to find you get gazzumped a couple of months later by a different device with a newer software..and makes you think is there any point in buying latest HTC handsets when this happens...or maybe its Googles fault, if they communicated better instead of saying at the end of the summer 'Gingerbread is on its way', and actually said when its arriving and on what etc ppl could make better choices.
Added to this is that by the time they do release an update, the phones a year old, theres newer ones...you get one...then its groundhog day again. No doubt HTC have another DHD coming out soon with a front facing camera bla bla bla anyway, and also i think the reason they take so long is that its not a priority to them, their priority is investing their resources in pushing out yet newer handsets just to snare new victims..
btw for anyone, i asked HTC about an update about 2 weeks ago, they told me they wont be releasing one and to contact my network carrier...network carrier pointed me back to HTC.
anyway , rant over

That's just how it works though.
You buy something and a few months later it's out of date.
It's the way of the tech world and has been for years.
There's no malice or trickery involved, it's just business.

Maybe my insinuation of malice and trickery is a little unfair..but having said that, I guarantee if Id contacted HTC before buying the DHD in October and asked wld it get Gingerbread update they would have said 'sure, course you will, everyone gets updates'..knowing full well it wld take months and months to get the updates.
And if I'd contacted Google and said I was thinking of buying an android handest when is latest software gona be incorporated, they would have said 'we arent sure' just so I would get the DHD another registered android device for them...even though they know full well the likely release, and handsets that will release with it way in advance...so in a sense it is trickery, but guess thats business for you...neither wants to jeopardise a potential sale for their stats
so the snare is recoiled ready for the next victim

I wonder how hard it can really be... they probably just dont have any friggen (unit/automation) tests. The API from 2.2 to 2.3 has barely changed. Imagine you had to wait for a new Ubuntu release just to get a kernel update...
Given they managed to screw up the 1.72 release and havent even uploaded the source code for that kernel, does not make me very enthusiastic about actually seeing 2.3 out anytime in the next 6-9 months.

The software updates all work on about a 6 month cycle (give or take). It's made very clear from the outset that new software is in the pipelines, they just don't set a concrete date, they just simply release it when it's ready.
The same can be ready for HTC. They're actually good with a lot of their updates in comparison to a lot of manufacturers. There are a few devices which never even got an update to 1.6.
HTC will release an update when it's ready.
If you don't want to wait, install a CyanogenMod ROM.
I think other manufacturers can only learn from HTC..
for example, OTA with Froyo came to Desire in August 2010, this is some 3 months after Google released it..
DHD is still HTC's flagship and I think we will get 2.3 in some 2-3 months
Bear in mind that apart from the Nexus S no one is running an official Gingerbread build yet, so it's not as if HTC are behind the curve here so please get some perspective
Guys, it has been mentioned already but I just want to add that I have also read a report saying that 2.3 will be available in 6 months aprox. after initial release. Best strategy IMO, don't bother checking or thinking about it as it won't help and it will become obsession.

To have to request the source, violates the GPL. The fact that it is not immediately available upon release also violates the GPL.
so HTC just answered to ma my email:
Thank you for contacting us
We re excited about our upcoming updates, as for the Android 2.3 update, certrainly some of our phones will be receiving this upgrade, however, for the time being, there’s no information regarding which phones will be receiving it nor the schedule of its release.
Please note that you can contact us via support line. For further details, please go to http://www.htc.com/europe/CA_Hotline.aspx, you'll find a toll free number that you can dial only from a landline.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number

Gingerbread only runs on Nexus S at the moment... You won't expect it to be here, one DHD that soon. At least wait for SGS to have it first.
Ok people,
Just been on to HTC and they have confirmed that the 1.29.401.7 is out in the wild for UK users.
I have not had mine yet but they said this... (has anyone had there update yet?)
Robert: Hi Richard, thank you for contacting HTC Support, I am looking in to your query now.
Robert: I understand you wish to know when the latest Android 1.29 OTA update will be coming to your device.
In answer to your query the HTC One X Android 1.29 software update via FOTA EU is being rolled out as we speak, To unbranded devices. The servers can only handle 30,000 updates a day so you will have to be patient but you should receive the update soon. If your device is branded to a network e.g. 3, please wait for the network to release their branded software. The update is only available ota (over the air). There is also no way of installing an unbranded update on a branded device.
To manually search for updates please go through the following steps as described in the link below:
http://www.htc.com/help/www/howto_iframe.aspx?id=141676&type=1&p_id=440
For the latest news releases Please go to Our official HTC website, http://www.htc.com/uk/
Or web Fan pages e.g. Facebook & Twitter.
HTC thank you for your continued patience and co-operation at this time.
Richard Dixon: But thats great and all yet no one in the UK has received this update that I know of... (unless they got there phone from france or germany)
Robert: I can confirm it has been released.
Richard Dixon: Ive seen people asking on your official facebook and twitter. So its out in the UK?
Robert: Yes it is out in the UK.
PLEASE NOTE AFTER A FEW COMMENTS ON THIS THREAD IT SEEMS THE UPDATE IS NOT OUT IN THE UK AS OF YET AND HTC MAY HAVE MADE A MISTAKE. WILL POST MORE INFORMATION WHEN I GET IT.

Hi mate is your phone locked to Vodafone? This update is just for unbranded sim free phones at the moment, your network provider will release this update sometime later.
Already on it, RUU
But good to see it now slowly rolling out.

Looking forward to the improved battery life . Ive been told it also makes HTC Sense a bit smoother, is that true? Ive noticed that some of the Live wallpapers stutter a bit.
Nothing for me yet either on an unbranded T-Mob HOX.
Damn it, I just sent my One X for Exchange as it had a fault, oh well, I guess I'll have the update ready for me when I get another one back on Thursday, gives my fingers a break from mashing the 'check now' button.
Nothing yet, Im on vodafone but unbranded HOX.
nothing on my unbranded one as well, and htc said the same thing to me a week ago and nothing yet
They've been giving the same canned response for a week. They seem to think it's out here but it ain't. I have been speaking to HTC at a high level about it as I believe some mistake has resulted in the UK not getting it. I will report back whatever I hear.

The guy speaking to me said he had received his update yesterday and its a UK handset so im unsure mate.
I'm already on it - RUU
But, I've noticed:
Slight improvement in home screen lag, it's still there...
Much lower AnTuTu score
& according to HTC's own built in battery test, battery is worse than 1.28
I went from 90% left after the test on 1.28, down to 88% on 1.29
So, battery not as good maybe? & benching is much lower...
Hmm.....

Stay tuned....ill need to investigate and send a few mails. But it seems a bit strange. I received my update this weekend. But that was on a Nordic device. Keep checking manually. I'll keep you informed. Cheers
So at least someone's checking.

Incase you haven't heard the HTC One X has started to receive Sense 4+ and Jelly Bean.
Obviously a lot of people are excited about this and myself included find myself checking every 5 minutes for the update.
So I would like to ask people who already have the update to discuss new features, hopefully some videos and equally any bugs or issues you may have.

Seems that anyone who has jb is to busy playing with their new toys!
I don't think the update is available outside of Taiwan for the moment. However, based on various sources mentioned on different threads here, I gather it will come rather soon, for unlocked devices, most likely in less than 1 week (there are even mentioned dates, but it's +/-1 week - 5th of Nov. for UK, 6th of Nov. for France, etc.... I'd say in 2 weeks tops most of us will have it).
We r going to see 4.1.x soon in Europe too, but 4.2 may come earliest in 2013–3rd quarter I guess, because in March'2013 a new flagship will surely come with 4.2 it is that simple. Personally i am really excited about the new features that will come with it.

Nah just using the Maximus rom based on the latest elevate base. Noticed it on the one x+ base and other roms though
Here in Taiwan not every one got the OTA yet. Only people with non-carrier endorsed phones get the OTA (we call "retail version"). In TW, The phones are "endorsed" by carriers with their bloatwares but the phones are otherwise not SIM-locked. Most people here got the "endorsed" version even without any connection with the carriers. (we don't really care since it's not SIM locked)
Currently people with the "endorsed" version can flash the "retail version" of old RUU then can receive the JB OTA, even CID is different. (you need unlock, of course)
I think it would still take some time for HTC to prepare the "endorsed" JB OTA in Taiwan. It would take longer for the rest of the world to get it, I think...
BTW, this OTA kills my Light sensor and P-Sensor and HTC replaced them hardware-ly. Better wait longer...

When HTC One E9+ start to reciving android marshmallow 6.0.1?
Well,if you google latest info all indications are first quarter 2016 so hopefully within 7 weeks max.
We can only hope.
Unless anyone knows different?
Dont forget though if you are carrier branded it may take longer for you too.
That would be sweet!
Hmm,Only a few days left in March and still no OTA update for the E9+
From my googling all indications did say 1st quater 2016 and yet still nothing.
Hope we get it soon.
I did hear that it will be June, but still not holding my breath :/
Well, the E8 has now started receiving Marshmallow update so perhaps the E9/E9+ is not far behind now.

Well, googling for info only shows some sources saying THIS quarter. So we can hope we get it by end of June at latest.
Hopefully anytime now though.
The E9+ can be a great phone, but I think it does defo need Marshmallow to optimize it and gets its full potential.
And the wait continues.......

Am sick of waiting these htc updates...
They never keep their promises and then they complain why they dont sell.
I had several htc phones and always had the same problem with the updates. Everybody with samsung, lg, motorola take the updates before me and i always had flagship htc phones.
For htc e9+ that is not even flagship, dont expect to get update anytime soon, better go buy new phone. They said update is going to be released Q1, now Q2 is ending and still not a word
I this is off subject but can anyone confirm if this device will work for Verizon?
And it's 2017 Q1... still running 5.0.2
I know. Its very sad.
They did say 2016 and its passed onto 2017.
I do think it'll come but man,its taking to long now.
Hmm,maybe they decided to skip Marshmallow and go straight to Nougat? As long as its quick itd be OK,not that we have to wait til end of year for it,stuff that,Id rather have Marshmallow now then.

The info above doesnt really say much other than update does seem to be coming.
But I noticed the reply mentioned android N,so if we are lucky the E9+ will get 7.0,not just 6.0.
However an email HTC sent me said its only updateable to Marshmallow so who knows.
Since my last post Ive also had another email.

What's the deal with HTC. Why haven't they released Nougat yet?
Seriously?
Once they do release it there will be nothing but complaining just like every other new version.
Relax it will get here when it gets here.
Given that the Sprint exclusive Bolt is coming out with Nougat, I would bet that it is just around the corner for the HTC 10 as well.
However, I really hope for a stable update, rather than a rushed one, full of issues.
only Name exclusive, but yea, htc 10 nougat build is really near
They said Q4 2016... so until 31 December 2016 23:59 they are on time.
I really hope they put in the ability to change what's in the quick settings within the notification tray. There are a good amount of them that I don't use.
nougat update let you change the quick settigns toggle
Hmm even mediatek devices gotten Android 7.0 earlier that HTC 10 like oukitel devices
I really hope the update brings much better camera performance and soon, I'm really disapointed with it. But isn't the rumor saying late November beginning of December?
