So... Without going into the details...
1) How long does the XL / android retain it's call history?
2) When you swap your SIM into a different android, does the call history transfer to the new phone?
3) Signal Private Messenger specific: I have Signal set up to receive all my (SMS) text messages. If I delete Signal from my phone, are all of my old Signal messages AND the old SMS messages deleted or are the old SMS put into the stock Android messaging app? Any help will be greatly appreciated

1) As far as I know call history should be there forever unless you wipe data
2) Call history won't transfer unless you make a backup on the device then restore on your new phone
3) You need to import messages from signal to your new app not sure if that app supports importing sms, I know signal can import from other apps but other way round not 100%

I'm not worried about importing anything... I just need to know if I delete Signal, will the old SMS that were in Signal be deleted or will they transfer to the stock messaging app
I want details on whats going on? What happened at work?
If you're worried about data on the phone then factory reset the device. But that doesn't mean your employer won't be able to retrieve SMS and call history from the carrier especially if it is a corporate phone controlled by your employer.
In addition to that data the carrier is logging what cell towers the phone was connected to and maybe even location. I know a number of years ago there was a big brew-ha-ha about all the carriers incorporating tracking apps in the phones that collected a lot of data about the phone, what it was used for, etc. Though I think those apps have been eliminated the carrier still logs/records a ton of data about the phone that they collect on their side.

Phone is mine but was confiscated by my employer. It's in airplane mode to protect from a factory reset. I only message inside Signal - including the occasional SMS inside of Signal for the few friends that don't use Signal.
Moral of the story: anything you don't ever want traced back to you, use a throw away burner phone. Carrier can't trace anything to you, no chance of being caught unless you're caught in possession of it.

How does airplane mode prevent factory reset?
If it's your phone, I'm pretty sure it's illegal for your employer to take it from you.

One instance I can think of is if he works on a military installation and had it in a prohibited area. It would be confiscated.

I am on T-Mobile, so I'm not familiar with what AT&T can do, but on our network you can log in to your account at the website and disable text messaging. It won't be gone from the phone, but you won't get any text messages. I'm not sure if this turn of OUTBOUND texting.
Ill take a look in the registry for you, i think the most you'll be able to do is disable the messaging driver, but im not sure what that will do. ill be back in a bit
If you dont/wont use it... why even bother with disabling it? I dont think we're charged if we recieve a text only for sending. I could be wrong here though.
Are you worried about accidently opening a contact and typing out a message and sending it to them?

Nope but the phone tried to send an sms to some unknown/wrong number that called me!
And to Arron MC...........if you check at att site it says we get charged for BOTH incoming AND outgoing texts!!
There are two people (at least) that I can't send text messages to. One is on AT&T and one is on Sprint so their carrier isn't the issue. And it doesn't matter which sms app I use.
When I use Chomp I get this result: "Unfortunately, chomp SMS has stopped."
When I use the stock messaging app I get this result: "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped."
There is no existing thread with these people and their cell phone numbers are valid. When they send me texts everything looks normal on their end but I don't get the message.
I am bone dry stock.
Any ideas? This is very annoying and I probably will have the same problem with other people, I just haven't discovered it yet.
I've never heard of this issue before

I don't think so. How do I check? When I long press their names in the contact list I see an option to "add to reject list" which suggests they aren't blocked. How else can I check?
I don't think I've blocked anyone. Is there a way to check everyone I've blocked? And on a related note, what happens when I add someone to the reject list? If they call me will they go straight to voicemail or what?

Are you opposed to rooting and trying out a ROM? I honestly don't know what's going on, but if it's crashing your sms programs, it sounds to me somehow software or settings related (but I've never seen anything that could do that). Since it's most-likely software related, I'd bet a fresh install would solve it.
But that being said, it's a really bizarre thing to have happened.
I'd try erasing the problem contacts and re-adding them before going too far into it. Very odd problem though, thats for sure!
It does not sound like you have anyone Blocked / Rejected. Did you install any apps before the issue started?

Honestly, I have never heard of this before. Usually, I would never want to bother sprint tech, but I would go show them and see what they think. That is very odd. Have you tried a factory reset? (Backup everything first)
------------------------
Sprint Galaxy S3 "Supernexus"
Whiplashh Rom
Look it up.
So I'm in a major bind. I realized that the problem was for anyone who I didn't already have a sms thread with. If I send/receive text messages with someone that has an existing thread, it works fine. If they don't have a thread send/receive text fails as I described.
I tried uninstalling Chomp SMS and that didn't help. So I figured there might be some corruption in my text message store so I backed up my sms & mms and then deleted everything. Now I can't send/receive text messages from ANYONE and when I try to restore my text messages it fails. I backed up with two different apps to be safe and they both failed.
At this point it seems like the only option is a factory reset. Does anyone have another suggestion to fix this?
Before doing a factory reset I'd like to back everything up but I'm not rooted yet and to make matters worse I'm on vacation with my Mac rather than my Windows laptop -- so rooting is not possible. I don't want to do a factory reset and lose everything but I can't be away for this many days without the capability to send/receive text messages. Especially since people who are texting me have no idea I'm not getting their texts. FML
Turn on Mobile Data. Update Profile & PRL, Turn off your mobile data.
Backup export your contacts list. should be like a
Contacts.VCF file.
And backup your SMS messages if possible
Go into applications / All Applications > Wipe Data for both messaging apps + Wipe Contacts list.
Turn off your sync for contacts.
Reboot your device.
Open up both messaging apps and tweak / change what ever you need in the settings for both applications.
Turn on your data and reset LTE/CMDA CMDA/EVDO back and forth once
Reboot your phone.
Import your contacts list.
Re-sync your contacts.
Then try messaging them.
If that doesn't work then I have no clue what'll help with your issue being non-rooted.

I tried this, it didn't work.
Now I have another problem. When I try to sync my contacts, after restoring them from the backup, I'm getting an error. The error says "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." Maybe it will be back shortly but in my experience with a similar problem with calendar syncing a couple years back, this is not so easy to fix.
Any suggestions?
Your firmware and base is updated to MD4 right?
EDIT:
Have you tried Go SMS Pro Using this method?
Download from Google play
Open application and go to settings
Click Advanced Tab.
Click MMS Settings
Checkmark Fill APN Configuration Manually.
Code:
MMSC
http://mms.sprintpcs.com
MMS Proxy
68.28.31.7
MMS Port
80
Force Close application, and then reboot it, and now try sending something SMS or MMS.
Yes, I'm on MD4.
I actually think MD4 may have something to do with this. The first time I noticed the problem was right around the time I installed MD4. It was within a day, either right before or right after. For some reason Sprint pushed MD4 to may waaaaay after everyone else got it which is why I just recently got it.
I tried your Go SMS Pro technique but got not joy. The stock messaging app still crashes. Go SMS doesn't crash when I send messages but nothing is actually sent. And whenever someone sends me text messages I still don't get them.
How to fix SMS recieving on HTC One m8 (T-mobile)?
Hello all, I am having an issue receiving regular text messages on my m8. It is particularily the longer messages, but not to the point where they have become MMS. Here's what has been done so far! I have...cleared my message threads, cleared the cashe, did a soft reset of the phone, did a master reset of the phone, now I have a replacement phone and it still isn't working, I've done a master reset of the replacement phone, and I have gotten a new SIM card.
I am still not receiving a lot, probably 75% of my messages.
Other notes: my old imessage is deactivated. My number is no longer associated with Apple. It is from all sorts of numbers. Not just a single person. They are using different phones on different networks.
PLEASE HELP!

From what you wrote, my opinion is its probably not your phone but a network issue. Either iMessages is still hampering things OR TMOs got a network issue delivering messages to you.
But if you came from an iPhone then go back to iMessages being an issue..
When did you go from iPhone to HTC?
give us some background on that.
Are you getting "null" at the end of your messages received?

I'm having a frustrating issue with the stock Android Messages app. My work sends notification texts via email, ie. from a gmail account to "mynumber"@tmomail.net.
The Android Messages app (stock android sms app), will not download these texts. I've been troubleshooting this all week and continue to come up empty, here is a breakdown of symptoms and what I have tried:
-My phone does notify me that a message is received, but requires me to tap to attempt to download the message, but the download always fails.
-Auto-download MMS is enabled, app is up to date
-third party apps WORK (kinda, see textra screenshot. message is delivered along with a weird code)
-if there is a subject in the email, the subject WILL display in the text, but not the body
-Safe Mode does not fix it
-phone is Pixel XL from Play store on T-Mobile
-issue happened on stock unrooted phone with all updates
-after exhausting all options I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and Pure Nexus rom, issue did not go away
-have deleted and edited all APNs countless times changing damn near every option to no avail
-have tried on and off wi-fi, with and without wi-fi calling, no changes
-normal MMS works fine (picture texts, group texts)
-have tried same APNs and apps on two different devices on my plan (V20 and S6 edge), and this issue cannot be duplicated. tmomail messages works fine on those phones with the exact same settings as on my Pixel
That's basically it. Hopefully I'm missing something simple. Please help if you have any suggestions, I'm open to just about anything. I know the easy fix is to just use Textra or another third party app, but I really don't want to. Also I can't stand not knowing what the problem is!!! Thanks in advance!

Hey so I know your post is literally years old but I had been going through the same problem for YEARS before someone at T-Mobile finally figured it out. I figured I would post this to give you a hand and maybe someone else with this problem.
After going back and forth with T-Mobile for, no joke, 2 years on this issue, the fix was finally discovered. It has to do with T-Mobile "Digits". It's a "free" "second line" which is really just an alternate phone number for you to give people on sites like CraigsList if you don't want people to know your real number. You can just use Google Voice for this. Anyway, call T-Mobile and tell them you don't want your Digits number linked to your cell number (at least not for texts) and it will fix the issue.
Drove me crazy for YEARS. Hope this helps you or anyone else out there!
I use the default Samsung text app because I want to use Chat texting (the only other option I know of is Google and it doesn't work with the Chat messages imported from my previous phone, so doesn't show them). I have had a large number of regular SMS/MMS texts to non-Chat people give me an error of not being able to be sent, usually a couple of minutes later with an error notification but occasionally with a pop-up immediately upon sending that says it will be sent when the service is available. I've also noticed lately that people's Chat texting dots turn off very often even if I'm sitting in the same place I saw them on shortly before, and most of the time flipping Airplane Mode on and off again fixes it (and I'll see a Google notification about backing up X number of contacts, with X being the number of dots that turned off [usually two since if the one I tapped on turned off, I'll check another to see if it is me or that person]).
Anyone else have this problem? I also have a problem, as I said in the reception thread, with the cell reception bars going from full to no service in a second, for a second or two, and go back to full bars. This is on T-mobile US. I feel like it worsened after the update a day or two ago, but I might be wrong about that. It is really ridiculous, though!
I'm Tmobile too. Same issues. It's definitely a tmobile issue.
Using Google Messages on T-Mobile and none of these issues.
my wife's zflip3 on at&t using google messages has been doing this the last few days.
when she got home from work this evening I checked and her rcs settings were stuck on 'connecting'. I did the airplane mode, clear carrier services data, messages data, and then turned off airplane mode. then went to messages and verified phone number in chat settings, and its been working since ( a few hours now). I will see how it goes when she goes to work again tomorrow. strange that it just happened out of the blue though. I think there was a carrier services update in the last day or two, so that may have caused it.
I'm in the UK and have been having issues with chat messages getting stuck on sending and not receiving, have also had issues with other notifications being very delayed not sure if Google play services update had caused it. It seems alright again at the moment
Similar issues with AT&T in the the US, they have issues with their RCS Profile. Unfortunately carriers are usually trash.

Nope, unfortunately it is not that. There are common issues with RCS and AT&T
My speculation is that it is related to their 1.0 RCS Profile and their 5G coverage in the area, as it often confuses the antennas if there is 5G or not in the area
Now, I am using Android/Google Messages as it has a much better feature set than Samsung's default

Unfortunately, Google Messages isn't an option for me because I need to be able to refer to old texts imported from my previous phone, and Google Messages isn't able to read (show) old RCS texts from Samsung (my previous phone was the S7 Edge).
I'm guessing the issue might improve if they fix the signal issue, which has also dropped a couple of calls.

That is interesting, for me it was able to port other messages when I switched from previous devices (S21 plus, iPhone 11 Pro Max), it just has them as SMS rather than as chat.

Lucky. At first I thought it had deleted some of my conversations, but then I saw them lower in the list because it thought their last texts were a lot earlier in time since it wasn't showing a lot of the texts. This included some important people to me, so I had to switch back to the Samsung text app, where thankfully they all appeared again.
