Hellou,
I need your opinion guys. Here in Germany the G6 is 310 euros and the V30 - 500 euros. And i cant decide which one to get. Are those 200 euros more worth it ?
For me is the wide angle camera and the battery realy important. Is there a noticable difference? The V30 is kinda big for my hands.
Also looking for a phone that will stick with me for 2 years...
What will you suggest me to get?
Thanks! :good:

I had a G6. Now I have a V30.
I got used to the bigger size fast. V30 is taller and wider, but thinner than G6.
Much better battery with the V30. Both have same 3300mah battery size, but V30 has more efficient processor.
V30 wide angle camera has less distortion (fish eye effect). G6 is very noticable.
G6 processor is 2 generations old, while V30 is only 1 generation old.
V30 will probably get Android P update in 2019, but not sure about G6.
Up to you to decide if the price difference is worth it.

LG V30/V30+ is what the LG G6 should have been.
Quad DAC
Qi wireless charging
64/128 GB storage
G6 only has some of those, in regionalized specs. V30/V30+ has all variants.
Plus, V30 has 2017 Snapdragon 835 while the G6 has 2016 Snapdragon 821.
Most G6 only had 32GB (yes, some had 64GB), while all V30 have at least 64 and I own three that have 128GB storage.
Point is the V30 is a vastly improved G6.
If you plan to use it in the next 2 years, get the V30+ - at least you'll get the 128GB of storage. I'm currently using G6 dual sim with QuadDAC, which is a great phone, especially after Oreo update - smooth and has almost all of the features of V30. I'm also considering buing the V30+ as it has all the good LG stuff - wide angle, double tap to wake/lock, fluid UI and so on. But you'll get this as well with the G6 Dual Sim - wide camera is wider, the pictures with the main camera are a little sharper compared to the V30, you'll get the QuadDAC. So if you are OK with the price, I suggest go for the V30/V30+.
Try ebay refurb V30 is less then $300 and G6 is around $150. Also once you go wireless charging it is hard to go back
good advice

Exactly right.
I haven't bought a phone since 2013 that didn't have Qi wireless charging. It's one of my "line in the sand" features. If it doesn't have Qi wireless, I'm not even considering it.
Also, yes -- you can get mint LS998 V30+ for $320 on eBay. That's about 275 Euro. Much better than 500 Euros and the two mint V30+ I bought and converted to US998 were basically like new.
@kris234: I don't have firsthand experience with G6, but in addition to the differences listed by others, I believe it's LCD whereas the V30 is OLED.
Some early V30 units apparently had poor displays, and I've seen some overly negative reviews on that account. But both my wife's and my V30s (Sep and Oct productions, respectively) have pretty great screens, far beyond any LCD screen I've seen.
Is there any noticable differnce between V30 and the V30+ ?

Yes, the storage size
V30 = 64GB
V30+ = 128GB
thats it
V30 (all range) is using a 10bit camera sensor, capable of capturing 1.07 billion colors.
Yes i think you guys helped me decide. I think i will get the V30 new one for 475 Euros becouse those refurbished Products i dont trust them very much. Thanks!

For that amount of money you should really be looking at V35 or G7
Definitely the V30 as it is what the G6 should had been as mentioned earlier in this thread.
-Better battery life
-Better camera quality
-Better screen (I hold it higher than the Note 8 screen even)
-Better sound with the DAC
-Better wide angle camera (distortion and sharpness)
Since there are many good offers for V30, I will be getting the G7 for around 500 euros

I have used a G5 for the most part of this year. Then I upgraded to V20 for a brief period (mostly for the free projector and T-mobile promotion ). V20 was a great device, but was too big for me. Then I upgraded to G6. While it was a nice phone for average consumers, I felt like I have downgraded compared to G5 in many aspects. So, after using it for a month I am back to my good old G5! I am just gonna list my reasons below.
1. Camera: No real improvement in camera performance. Just some more megapixels in the wide angle one. I use the wide angle camera a lot, so it was a good thing, but not that important. G6 is using phase detection autofocus, compared to the laser in G5. While this is good in some situation, G5 takes much better macro-mode pictures due to laser focus.
2. Infra-red: Gone. How come they decided to remove a feature, rather than upgrading?
3. Display: G6 got a nice display, but this 2:1 aspect ratio is simply wasted real estate on top and bottom. At least on V20 the extra space was used for something useful (the second display)
4. Notification LED: A big minus. Always-on-display is good, but a LED is a lot more functional and visible. The AOD also takes a toll on the battery. Despite larger battery in G6, on my usage level the battery performance was no better than G5.
5. Removable battery: I was a big fan of the samsung note series until they ditched the removable battery in note5. Since then I used all the LG flagships, because they kept the battery removable. I hope they keep the removable battery in V30.
6. Root-ability: As of now, G6 is not rootable, and I believe there is a good chance that it will never get root. Performance improvement in SD821 is unnoticeable compared to SD820, specially when I can use a custom kernel in G5 to suit my preference.
With G6, LG basically made an eye-candy targeting a consumer base who buys Samsung and apple for the flashy looking phones. For me a phone is about functionality, not a fashion statement. While the glossy look of G6 is aesthetically pleasing, the trade-off in functionality was simply not for me. I really do hope that LG doesn't target the same market for V30. In that case G5 might as well be my last LG phone. But my G5 is going strong with zero issues, and I believe it will serve a good long time.
Agree with you on most counts. I've had every LG "G" phone since G2 and like you, V20 due to the good promotion on price and minibeam projector. V20 I too found was too big, though that quad-DAC really does make a difference. Audio is superb on it. Just got G6 and on my first week of usage. I like it so far and in hand, it feels great, as it feels like a "candybar" again, not the overly wide feeling where your hands feel stretched with G3, G4, and V20. G5 was a nice sized phone with tons of features and a seriously underrated phone. I will say this, performance on G5 and V20 was topnotch at the beginning but they too underwent the typical Android slowdown after a few weeks of use. I'm talking programs that crawl, camera super slow to open, general navigation slow, and twitchy, stuttery browsing... none of which is really apparent on an iPhone... unfortunately, Android still can't seem to figure out the buttery smooth part (maybe Pixel?). The battery life on G5 did really stink though and there's no way I could go an entire day without changing out the battery, which becomes a ritual and it's not like it's hard, but it is annoying (I had 3 batteries). My G5 wasn't without problems though - it has that notorious GPS issue... GPS signal is absolute garbage (there's an in-depth XDA thread on it) and even after sending back the G5 to LG for repairs, it developed the problem over time... so GPS is really crippled on this phone (for me and many other unlucky ones) and as most can agree GPS is one of those crucial features, I can't go back to my own copy of G5.... maybe I can pick up another used one for a good price with a good GPS unit... but that's too much trouble. I like G5 but I don't love it THAT much to go through all that trouble... if I am honest, V20 really has got it all... except the size part. V20's wide angle camera is I think slightly less wide than G5's. I like G5's wideness better.
G6 - just beautiful... but you're right. No more replaceable batteries... and LG gave the US people a normal (stinky) DAC, not like the one in V20... oh boy, you can literally hear the difference. But I also noticed LG's own music app stinks - install a 3rd party - I installed Pi Music Player and the audio quality is noticeably better than the stock music player, despite the stinker of a DAC. LG says the US customers wanted wireless charging over DAC... c'mon seriously? With USB-C, charging is so easy... I'd rather have a better DAC. And removal of IR really hurts. Maybe most didn't use it but I travel a lot for work and stay at hotels... I find myself using IR quite often to change the input source of the TV (for plugging my laptop via HDMI, using Chromecast, etc).
LG... please don't go along with the "norm"... You will not win and you will no longer have any key differentiating feature.
I have to agree, I've had my G6 about a month now and I'm not that impressed. I've had several random reboots, and the screen freezes. If we had root, I could work with it but since we don't, I tend to use my G5 more and more..

Stock rooted with Asgard kernel.
If you don't need WiFi calling or VOLTE, Fulmics rom is a good option.
H830 and H850 are the only variants that can be rooted right? Does the 830 have all the bands necessary for ATT LTE? Or do you have to go with the 850?

I agree. If LG G6 came out with SD 835 then it would be a whole different game. But LG G6 is with SD 821 vs. HTC 10 SD 820. Pretty much same thing.
What about screen and camera?
Sent from my Black Leather Htc 10
I have both and I'm sticking with the 10. I bought a G6 for $350 from Craigslist, and even at that price, it's not worth keeping. The only thing the G6 has going for it is the design, but then if you care that much about the design, buy the Galaxy S8.
Daylight pictures taken from both phones are about the same to my eyes. The G6 has that wide angle lens which is super cool and useful, but the HTC 10 is faster to focus in low light and takes better selfies.
Pros for G6:
- Gorgeous design
- Wide angle camera.
- Slightly longer battery and SOT
- Nicer screen
Pros for 10:
- Even on stock ROM, the 10 feels 10 times snappier than the G6.
- Better low light pictures
- Better selfies
- Bootloader can be unlocked and lots of custom ROMs. Not sure which variant of the G6 you can buy but here in the US, the G6's bootloader cannot be unlocked. The 2-SIM variant (HD870DS) also doesn't have an unlockable bootloader
- Superior headphone audio quality. If you're at all serious about listening to music, stay away from the G6.
- Superior speakers
- Brighter screen and easier to see in sunlight.
- Cheaper

Τhx so much for comparing the 2 devices! It seems htc 10 is way better.!Feels 10 times snappier with stock rom?wow!!!What about g6 screen ratio?I read it cut the screen too much and its like 5.1 screen...
Now that you have had the V30, what improvements would you want LG to make for the V40?
Mine are as follows....
- 8mp front facing camera with bigger pixels and/or better aperture
- Stereo speakers
- Charge at least a tiny bit faster.
- LED notification light
- Metal back like V20 (doesn't have to be removable)
- 6GB of RAM
Then of course whatever the most recent SOC is at the time of release, but that's a given. If LG keeps the same form factor, keeps all other features, then adds those I listed above, I believe it'd be the perfect phone! What do you want improved?
Also hopefully with some software updates its possible LG could improve the front camera and charging speed of the V30 in the meantime!
I sign for all the above (except metal back, I don't care about it), plus:
- Power button at the right side of the phone (sometimes it's annoying to pick up the device just to power it off (double tap is a solution, but not as convenient)) OR fingerprint sensor under the bottom part of the screen
- As an alternative to LED notification light I would be happy with the built-in Always On Screen feature with custom icons ("NoLED" app like feature)
- And the most important one - leave all current features, design and behavior AS IS!
The very straight forward handful, at least for me, are:
Better OLED panel (larger and higher quality)
Double the RAM (because the V30 should have had 6GB)
Dual-SIM US model with band 71
Stock Android (LG's skin sucks)
Unlockable bootloader with all fastboot and ADB commands intact on all models.
I think your list would be similar to my own.
1) Stereo speakers
2) 6GB RAM
3) Better front facing camera
Only thing is that I'm sure with stereo speakers, the device will be heavier and may have larger bezel. It would be a possible trade off but man I love how light and how little bezel there is.
Edit: 4) The ability to root it! LOL
Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk.
Stereo speakers will mean bigger bezels and possibly something else disappearing. (Battery, headphone jack, something else) And let's face it, phone speakers never actually sound good. Ever.
Better selfie camera would also mean bigger top bezel. Increasing the megapixel count by 3 megapixels is nothing. 99% of people can't tell the difference in standard viewing. You have to quadruple the number of megepixels before most people can actually tell the difference. That would mean a 20mp camera and not 8. Of course, then you run into the problem of squeezing 20mp onto a tiny sensor and all of the headaches that come with that. (Noise, sooo much noise) Or, your other option is to use a bigger sensor with bigger pixels which means a bigger bezel. All around it's a lose lose situation.
A lot of changes I see being asked for in order to make them worthwhile changes would lead to drastic design differences.
I'm actually pretty happy with the V30 as it is. I would maybe like to see the wide angle camera get just a tad better with AF but that's about it.
Release date? Does that count as an improvement? ??
Better camera, front facing speakers. They could literally leave editing else the same and I'd be happy.

V30 is perfect mostly already as is, BUT with small but very BIG exception, it lacks EAS sched governor which makes it WAY more slower than even Huawei competitive offers, not to mention Pixels and onepluses. LG lacks very huge times in storage speed benchmarks due to garbage kernel and storage drivers code. lack of proper governor added to poor storage code leads to very lags, stutters, jittering and hickups turning users towards Pixel 2 XL or even Mate 10/Note 8
And also camera needs to be updated and updated heavily. It's software processing, as well as ****ty OIS and HDR performance makes V30 not even suitable for who it directed at: for vlogers/pornhub/xhamster submitters and etc. LG must somehow license HDR+ algorithm from Google, or better yet start to put newest Sony IMX400 modules into V40 and make use of it's internal memory to implement sort of own HDR Plus analogue and vastly improve EIS Steady Shot 2.0 for as of now OIS+EIS performance is garbage and purely pathetic. I was looking into updating V20 to V30 but as of now it's pointless at all with all those shortcomings and hidden issues, mostly with OS
1. Get rid of selfie cam. (Narcissistic and a security vulnerability.)
2. Metal housing. (Glass is for wireless charging, which is slow.)
3. Huge battery.
4. Plain Android without skin, bloat, or unnecessary bells and whistles. A version that enables users to do their own security patching without the mfg and carriers imposing months and years of delays. (Oreo?)
5. A hi-fi DAC that just works, with all apps, without all the unnecessary crap like auto adjustment of gain based on detected load impedance, user-selectable filters, etc. , and without the apps limited to the LG audio and a couple other audio apps.
6. A display free of burn-in.
7. And of course, IP68 or better, SD or next gen user expandable memory, unlocked bootloader and root, carrier unlocked, and how about more attention to eliminating defects (faults, "bugs" by whatever name).
Why can't they make improvements on the LG G7? Why do you have to wait for LG V40?
The V30 is really just a better LG G6. LG should stop taking the view that the "G" models need to be inferior to the "V" models. They could do like Samsung and push out TWO top tier flagships per year, like the Galaxy S/S+ and Note series. Samsung doesn't cripple the S series to "save" it for the "Note" series. They put the everything into the Galaxy S and then try to make Note even better. The only reason the Note has 6GB RAM and the Galaxy S8/S8+ doesn't is because early 2017 6GB RAM was not yet the norm. By late 2017, it is. There's where LG messed up. The LG V30 should have 6GB RAM.
For the LG G6, LG had the STUPID regionalize specs scheme and you couldn't buy an LG G6 with ALL the specs. Asian countries had more storage and DAC, but U.S. had Qi wireless charging. Then the LG G6+ (released in July! still with Snapdragon 821!) even had regionalized specs (Europe version still didn't have Qi wireless), and none of the LG G6+ could be bootloader unlocked.
But, yeah, I agree.
Stereo speakers would be nice.
Maybe a little bigger battery.
At least 6GB RAM
Better selfie camera just to shut people up. I'm tired of hearing about it.
For those suggesting full metal back that's ridiculous. Can't have full metal back because I will not buy a phone without Qi wireless charging. Every since I had the 2013 LG Nexus 5 it's on my "must have" list and I'm not giving it up now.
Headphone jack on the bottom so its more usable

Yeah? Really? Where's second x2 zoom camera in S8? In s8 Plus? Where's Spen and all that accompanying soft in S8? Where 6Gig memory in S8? 6Gig were norm for 2016 xiaomis and oneplus , for 2017 8Gig is already a norma but even Note 8 still stripped of extra 2Gig.
And LG is already doing like Samsung, G6 is like S8 when V30 is like Note 8. V30 in NOT a G6 Plus like every one pretend it to be
The Samsung S series is inferior to Note series and always had been. How would LG market V series if G would have had all same specs but in lesser size? It's only Google's and Apple way to sell pixel with pixel XL and iPhone with iPhone Plus. LG can't afford it

Your questions are answered in my post. Read it again. I even specifically mentioned the RAM. Reading comprehension.
Just because some minor players put in more RAM to make a splash, that's not the mainstream norm. And you know it. Just like 21MP selfie cameras are not the norm, but at least one company is doing it.
Sony puts 4K displays on their phones, is still NOT the norm.
You only quoted the part you read, is that it?
My post stands and fully answers everything you mentioned, either specifically or implied.
LG already did silly things in the past like putting 2Gb of memory first, before Samsung. How did it help it? They people then still found ****loads of issues and wrote lists and lists and lists of "What LG should do in it's next smartphone to at least catch Samsung"
Look, LG smartphones is already better than competitors. No point in that "Oh, if it would have +2Gb more I'd have bought it". Nope, you wouldn't buy because if it had +2Gb more you would find next wish like "Oh, I wish lg put telephoto camera like every other vendor uses and strip that silly useless wide angle one" and so on and on yadda-yadda
Wish list from most to least:
Strong desire
1) Faster camera - focus is too slow in dimmer light and I keep missing shots of my dog that were very easy to capture with my S7 edge. Maybe 1.4um instead of 1.0um so there's more light for easier focusing.
2) An easy way to launch camera when the screen is on. Double tapping the volume down button is great when the screen is off but I'd like an easier way to start the camera when I'm using the phone. Maybe a dedicated camera/shutter button to replace the power button.
3) Better speaker - The one on the V30 is just too tinny. I usually listen to music in the shower but after being used to the S7 edge speaker, which does decent lows and provides a fuller sound, this one just sounds like racket. (Not dual speakers though because I prefer smaller bezels - I find no instance where listening to phone speakers trumps using earphones)
Nice to have
4) Better front facing camera - I don't take many selfies but there is a clear difference between the quality of other selfie cams vs. the one on the V30. For most intents and purposes, the 5mp one does OK, but if I'm taking a group selfie, I'd prefer the image to be higher quality than just a solo selfie.
5) Gesture controls on the fingerprint reader - to pull down the notification bar or scroll through websites.

Stock charger with the V20 is QC3, so says the inline meter i have. V20's charger is QC3 , chances are good so is the V30
I saw no difference in charging speeds between stock and a ravpower charger.
What did speed up charge rates was using a thicker cable. I used the charging cable from the G4as the V20 also has USB 2 and stuck a micro usb to usb c adapter on it and saw the meter touch 15W. With the stock flat cable it wouldn't cross 14W
They should adopt features that have been done with other phones.
Gestures:
I like the OP5T gestures - both while screen is off, and on the fp reader.
Battery:
For roughly the same physical size - they could fit in a larger battery like 4000 mah.
If Huawei can do it, then so can everyone else.
Display:
Fix whatever the issues are regarding screen uniformity, blue tint, etc, etc, etc.
Camera:
I am not sure what the deal is with recent cameras from all the manufacturers - preferring noise reduction over DETAIL, but please go back to the basics on this.
Do whatever you need to do, to produce photos like Google's camera.
OR, if you are going to overhaul the camera app - at least give the user the option to select AUTO modes that allow for the capturing of more Detail.
Headphone Jack
I, too, would prefer the jack to be on the BOTTOM of the phone.
FP Reader
Much like the OP5T, make it out of CERAMIC - so that it won't be scratched/damaged easily
Versions
I agree that they have to STOP with all the flavors, and just make the BEST phone with ALL the features they can possibly cram in to their phones.
No more regional versions, no more G series is inferior to V series - just give us the best - don't hold back.

G4, G5 were the same for everyone (the brazilians and russians got a lower spec'd G5 but otherwise it was the same)

Why the V30+, more competitive in some markets. I don't get a V30 only v30+ in mine

But I have this feeling that LG will try to fit a third camera in there, maybe a 2x. They will be vertical set instead of the present horizontal.
This means smaller sensors all around :/
Or they could try to just improve what's already there

G4, G5 were the same for everyone (the brazilians and russians got a lower spec'd G5 but otherwise it was the same)
The circus began with the G6
See the V30, pretty much the same for everyone
Why the V30+, more competitive in some markets. I don't get a V30 only v30+ in mine

Adding OIS would be good
But I have this feeling that LG will try to fit a third camera in there, maybe a 2x. They will be vertical set instead of the present horizontal.
This means smaller sensors all around :/
Or they could try to just improve what's already there

No, it was an LG thing. They said they did it on purpose - only giving certain specs to various parts of the world, to ostensibly keep costs down and give the "popular" options for each region.
But it was an idiotic idea. Like the U.S. buyers want Qi wireless charging, but not more storage?

I don't believe it was an LG thing. i think the carriers twisted their arm over it to keep costs down and make LG competitive.
Who are the biggest customers of phones ? operators
Hi everyone!
I need to buy a new phone but I'm stuck on choosing between this two phones, LG G7 (for 300€) or Oneplus 6 (for 400€).
I kindly ask you which one is better overall. The only two things I care more are camera quality and software updates.
Thanks for your help!
If you care about software, geet thee oneplus 6.
Camera on the LG g2/g4 is beter then this one..
Software updates sux on LG....
But over all I would have chosen lg g7..
I think the lg g7 is way better than oneplus 6. G7 is a military grade phone. It have ip 68 rating oneplus 6 don't have this. Lg g7 cameras are good too plus u get the second camera as the ultra-wide camera. In my opinion g7 is the best choice
I used to have Oneplus 6 an now Im owning G7.
I prefer G7 - easier to hold it in one hand, wide angle camera and the most important for me is headphne jack with QuadDac.
software updates, customization, forum support is much better for Oneplus.
no matter what you chose, you'll be happy
G7.. Even at full prices. At current prices, no brainer.
Had a 6T prefer the G7. Little things like the vibration motor makes a world of a difference in quality feel for me and the excellent manual mode in the camera. Also G7 feels more solid in build quality and looks sexy as hell in real life. Pictures don't do it justice.
G7 - Better build quality, a better vibration motor, Quad-Dac, Boombox speaker, wide-angle.
6T- Fastest Updates, clean software, the better primary camera then G7, community support, AMOLED, bigger battery.
If you don't care about Quad-Dac, better vibration motor, and a better quality bottom speaker then go with OnePlus 6T.
No wireless charging = no purchase. I also use the headphone jack a lot... even though I yearn for the 6/6T. The G7 was/is the right phone for me.
For me,the Boom Box feature is the main factor to pick the G7..
What if a phone without sd support crash? Can you get into the memory to get your backup? I was happy once I unlucky damaged my phone with broken usb cable, it was unreadable at my computer. but i could recover all files lucky enough and pictures. I don't buy any phone that not support a sd card for that. Don't forget this is the most bright screen of all,one of the better single bottom speakerand and ip 68.

@zaragon567 , where did you see the G7 for 300 EUR? I just paid over 400 and thought I got a pretty good deal, but I think I can return it within 2 weeks...
Hi everybody,
I think most of you don't know me but let me say you the most important thing: I'm a student and work as a Sales Representative for LG Mobile.
Yesterday, I received my new phone, the LG G8s ThinQ, which is going to replace the LG V40 ThinQ I had since February 2019 (I'm living in Europe, that's why I received it quite lately) and the LG G7 ThinQ I had before the V40 since May 2018.
It's the Mirror Black version. Seems totally black on pictures but it's more of a dark grey finish in real life.
One thing that I really appreciate is the included transparent silicon case inside the box even if the OTG USB-C to USB-A adapter is still not present.
DTS:X 3D Surround, Hand ID, Face Unlock, Air Motion, etc. are all there but not Quad DAC unfortunately.
The autonomy is very impressive and surely much better than precedent smartphones I had: Samsung Galaxy S8, LG Q6, LG G7 ThinQ and LG V40 ThinQ.
Dimension of the G8s is veyr similar to the V40 ThinQ but unfortunately, as the Power button has moved a bit upper, no V40 cases will be usable.
For the rest, this phone is really great and feels more premium and better build than the V40 Moroccan Blue I had even though the must-loved frosted glass isn't there anymore.
I'm going to publish an unboxing video online, in French (sorry guys :/ ) in the coming days.
Here's my little unboxing video in French
Here are some pictures if someone is interested with a side-by-side comparison with the LG V40 ThinQ I will give back to LG in the coming weeks (it's definitely the one I loved the most in term of design):
No offense but this phone has been released in most places for MONTHS. Not exactly ground breaking news, but we appreciate the effort
How does it compare with the G8?

Yeah, I noticed afterwards.
In several market though (just like all Europe), it's still not there.
Example :
- France : not there until September
- Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium : arrival in the coming days

Very similar in terms of performance.
A little bit more of autonomy, better camera quality but the screen is only Full HD+ (for that screen size, you won't notice the difference and will gain even more battery life) and you don't have the OLED Crystal Sound technology (in stead, you have Meridian Stereo Speaker).
The only complain for this specific comparison : screen borders are bigger on the G8S and the notch is larger. This result to nearly the same size as the V40 (same width, half centimeters less height).
And most important, the G8s had no DAC

Yeah, it's a shame…
Really great sound quality anyway but I rather prefer Quad DAC over DTS:X 3D Surround.
Stereo Speaker is welcom even if the P-OLED Crystal Sound is very interesting in the G8S.
PS: I think you're all informed that in September LG will reveal new devices.
I read on some websites of a rumor about the LG V60, let me assure you the dual screen device will be a G8 series phone (I can't say anything else as the rest is under confidentiality).
Let's see what they will show us

Hi, I'm thinking of buying one in Portugal. It has just been released.
Do you think the camera quality is better than the normal G8?
Can you post some samples?
Thanks!

Camera quality will be quite the same, no major difference the 2 versions (even if the lenses are not exactly the same).
I already made my hands on the G8X, sounds promising but I'm waiting to receive the finished product before publishing anything.
As for the samples, I made a small trip recently at Malta, check that out here (auto mode (the 3 lenses), AI mode (wide and main lens), Pro mode (main lens even though you can also use it on the wide lens)):
Auto mode:
Auto mode on the same view with wide, main and zoom lens:
Pro mode for macro:
Pro mode for sky view at night, at different settings:
AI mode with wide lens, than with main lens:

Wow, that's a lot of good material to analyse. Nice pictures! Thank you very much!
Image quality seems good, although there's a bit of noise reduction that reduces the detail - It's LG's signature nowadays...
Have you tried shooting in RAW or using a GCAM port?
Thanks again

Thanks.
Yes, there's a bit of noise reduction on the picture, even though on Pro mode it seems to be less present.
I have RAW files of those in Pro mode if you want.
Tried Gcam, only the "most stable" one ran for 2 pics and now, even by reinstalling it, I can't use it anymore but on the very short test I did, no difference in quality apart for a slightly less noise reduction

Well, GCAM has its pros and cons. I still prefer stock RAW but GCAM has its uses in more challenging lightning conditions.
I'm using a V30 with version 18C1 from here:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-fu24/
It almost never crashes and It has much more details than stock camera but the image also looks a lot more processed. You can also tweak some of the settings to your liking.
I would love to see some raw photos when you have time to share them. After the G4, LG started to use to much noise reduction on jpegs and I only use RAW nowadays.
I only see the black color. Will the white one come in Europe? Some reviewer said something about bad viewing angles . How is yours?
I have the Lg g6 and i'm considering the g8s. Anyone who had the g6 and now the g8s? Impressions?

Sorry for the late reply.
Some countries received the Mirror Black others the Mirror Teal color.
No info about the white one.
In Belgium, the G8S has been cancelled as there was some problems with partners to actually sell it in store but no problem related with the device.
About the viewing angles, I prefer it to others smartphones. I didn't use a lot the zoom lens unfortunately but wide angle and main lens are very good. My father, which has the Galaxy Note 10+ prefered the lenses of the G8S but chosed the Samsung simply for faster updates (even if LG is changing it this year, finally).
I had to change for the G8X last month, the wide lens of this one is very large but interesting for landscapes ^^
About camera quality comparison :
G6 vs G7 : no huge differences
G6 vs G8/G8S : good improvements on night photography, colors are more natural, zoom lens isn't the most useful one
G6 vs G8X : same as G8/G8S, wide angle lens is very very large and thankfully not too fish-eye (the largest of all smartphones as it's 136°)
What's your current security update/SW? I see you have same version as me according to box ("EUA") but I'm on May update and not getting anything newer...
