I've lost my honor 7x 2 times already this year, and got another one. It's because it's so ****ing tall, that it slips out of my pocket a lot, so I got a belt clip this time.
But that still isn't the matter, it's that you can hope power for 10 seconds and easily turn the phone off. Why would they have such a simple feature for thieves for? It clearly says you can power it off on the ****ing lock screen!
With that being said, there has to be some app to disable the power button and entire powering off on lock screen. ****ing ridiculous this phone has 3 forms of security on the lock screen, but nothing to prevent power off then wipe with the very same buttons.

For the past week or so, the power button has been flaky. Sometimes I would have to press a couple of times to turn the phone off (not shut down, just turn it off).
Other times, the screen would seem to turn on all by itself.
Then a couple of days ago, I turned the phone face up and it was in HBOOT, waiting for a command from me. I had turned it off about an hour earlier and laid it face down so the screen lighting up with an incoming call wouldn't distract a meeting.
Yesterday and today, things have gotten worse. If I tap the button to turn the phone off, I get one of several responses. Nothing happens, or the phone turns off then turns back on a couple seconds later, or I get the power options menu as if I were holding the power button.
Sometimes the phone will just spontaneously turn on with nobody touching it.
I have kept it in a silicon case the past two years that keeps dirt out of the controls. I wash the case at least weekly and make sure there is no cruft buildup in it or on the phone.
I have tried using a duster can to blow out around the power button. Sometimes it seems to help momentarily. Other times there is no effect at all.
Anybody ideas or suggestions?
Of course, it could be due to the fact I fondled a Razr Maxx the other day...

Mine use to do that because it would get stuck against the cut out for it in the back cover. I just took a file and made the cut out where the button fits slightly bigger, and all has been well since. Good way to test is to leave the battery cover off, press the button a couple times and see if it still gets stuck.
I took the back of the case off yesterday and tried a few times. Results were still random.
It almost acts as if there is something down inside the switch itself.
Thinking seriously about going online and activating the Boss Lady's old DInc and using it for a few months.
I had this same problem with mine a while back. The screen would turn on at the slightest tap and if I tapped the button to turn it off the power menu would come on. I wound up taking it to best buy and collecting the insurance policy I had on it, refurbed dinc was the result. It seemed to be an issue with dirt/dust in the power button.
If you don't have insurance and are willing to void any warranty you may have crack it open and take a can of compressed air to it... but this should be your last option.
dusty!
It definitely has grime underneath it.Use a can of compressed air or an air compressor tank with air gun to blow it out. Smart-phones don't take kindly to being taken apart.
As I said in the OP, "I have tried using a duster can to blow out around the power button."
So disassembly and blowing out the case did not work.
What DID work:
Saturday night, gave up and ordered RAZR MAXX.
Sunday morning (and ever since), no problems!
Hmmm...
there is a simple thing that people should realize. ..the position of the power button on the note 2 is awkward. .
.sometimes especially when you put the phone with the screen facing the thigh in the right side front pant pocket. .(especially my surgical scrubs)... the weight of the phone itself presses against the power button for few seconds and it reboots...
.I have noted this quite frequently and advice against putting the phone in the right side front pant pockets
Silly.... but true
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
I've also noticed this and it is annoying. We just have to get used to this phenomenon.

I know what you mean about the scrubs. The phone use to do it with mine but since i got a hard case, doesn't happen anymore

Yup. Solved mine with casing.

Haven't realize this until now
It does seem like it's in kind of an odd spot. So far there have been a few times where I've went to hit the button, but reached to high up on the phone.
The button does end up right between my index and middle finger when I'm holding it with my left hang though, so maybe that's what they were going for with the design. So far, I have had no issues with it in my pocket though. I don't ever wear scrubs either though.
Sleep / Wake Power Button Too Easy to Press Accidentally
This might be my biggest complaint about the Note 2... I love the phone overall, but that power button is TOO easy to press!
I pull up a photo and want to hand the phone to someone to look at it on that big, pretty screen, and as soon as they take hold of the phone, the volume slider pops up and/or the phone is put to sleep!! Very annoying.
I've heard about a Volume Rocker app that gives a confirmation to prevent accidental volume changes, but what about the Power Button? I'd love it if there was a tweak that maybe used a double-click to activate sleep/wake from the power button. I'm guessing this would require some type of rooted custom ROM??
I agree with what you have found.
I have had my phone do the same thing on many occasions
So after finally fixing all the other issues i had with my phone (broken screen, broken vibrate motor, broken speaker) i was finally at ease. It lasted for about a week with everything functioning until now the phone gods have again struck me down. This time i have what is referred to as a Power Cycle. Kind of like a boot-loop except the phone completely boots up into my homescreen then the power options menu pops up, and no matter if i click back or not, that **** is going to reboot on me. Its to a point where if i pop in the battery the phone auto boots. Here's the kicker though. If i take off the back case and just set it on the battery with an open back, it doesnt power cycle. But the power button on the case itself is not stuck as you may be thinking as i can depress it and the cover spring pushes it back. I've hard reset, even went back to complete stock (no root) and it still does it. the power button works (very sensitive) if you have no case on the back, but if that thing is on, it acts like the button is being pressed.
Any Ideas?
Sounds like the power button is stuck... Try taking the phone apart and cleaning the contacts. Then press the power button a few times to ensure it works like it is supposed to. Put everything back together, tighten the screws but don't torque them. Should not turn on after you put the battery back in, wait a few to make sure it doesn't. Then power it on and see how it goes.

still didnt work. i used some rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth on it. the interesting thing is, when you take the case off, if you set your finger over where the button is (making no contact) it still registers that you are touching it. this is what i think is causing it to power cycle when the phone case is on, as it believes that it is being pressed when it isnt.

I had almost the exact same problem with my Epic Touch. Ended up being a bad power switch. How handy are you with a soldering iron? If you're pretty good, you can buy the switch for ~$10 and replace it yourself. (You can also try cleaning it - several tutorials here, and the "Captivate" phone seems to have the same switch and issues. Search both forums)
Several eBay sellers sell the switch you'll need.
Finally ran into the constant bootlooping which occurs when the power button is being depressed continuously (defective/sticky power button).
I have found a work around to keep my phone running by removing the plastic power button (not the soldered power switch); my phone stays running and I can use it normally sans a power button.
My question is: how do I know if my power switch is defective/sticky rather than my plastic power button was screwed up and pressing on the power switch in an awkward way (I have dropped my phone a couple times recently).
If it's a defective/sticky power button, I want to get it repaired with mobiletechvideos but I don't want to commit to said path until I know without a doubt I have an issue.

This is almost certainly caused by a bad/stuck power (on/off) switch. It's a very common problem on all the US-carrier Galaxy SII phones. (I think the international "i9100" model uses a different type of switch.)
You can check the switch by gently touching the physical switch (plastic cover/"button" removed) with a toothpick/pen/etc. As a "snap-action" switch, it shouldn't activate until you hear/feel it "snap" closed. If it's activating with a light/slight/tiny touch, the switch is bad. On my Sprint GS2, even the slightest brush against the power button caused it to wake the phone. Sometimes it would stick "on", and then the phone would reboot. I bought a new switch, soldered it in, and have no problems since.
If you don't have insurance coverage and are out of warranty, you can replace the switch yourself. Several eBay sellers offer replacement power switches for the SGH-T989 Galaxy S2. (about ten bucks)
Or, if you don't have mad soldering skills, a few companies offer mail-in repair service:

I have enabled Pocket mode and 95% of the time it works great.
But every once in awhile, I'll pull my phone out of my pocket and go to unlock it but it brings up a screen that says "Pocket mode is on" and wants me to press randomly appearing spots on my display to prove that I'm trying to unlock it.
Is this a known bug or do I need to try a factory reset?
My screen is clean and my case is a semi-minimal case and I've rebooted. It's been going on for a long time now.
This happens to me also sometimes with the original carbon bumper case. It happens when i pull out my phone quickly while pressing the power button, but the top of the phone is covered with my pants.
You can trigger that if you cover the ear piece with your hand an try to unlock it.

So, maybe I need to be slower to press the power button after removing from my pocket? hmm okay thank you.
