I'm so torn.
On one hand I can pick up the GN on Verizon through work and ditch my personal tmo bill...
Or use my upgrade on T-Mobile and keep as I am.
Benefits have having two phones helps alot though like I can be sending emails while talking. Or screwing around while on conference calls. Or using one while charging another.
Benefits of using one boils down to saving money but I don't know if I like work checking up on my calls. Plus while we basically have unlimited minutes and data, they don't have a SMS plan... which I typically use over 1000 a month. I could use IM more... but not with everyone. I usually get a call when I text alot (100-200).
As far as the actual hardware, I'm thinking the GSM will be more popular with devs. Sure the hardware should be the same but I don't want a bastard version like the Tmo SGS2. I think the differences will just be drivers but who knows.
Are they gonna have 2 forums for each model or just this one? I guess no one knows how different they'll be and if there would be a need.
So if you were in my position and had an option to go with Verizon, save some $80 each month but at the cost of SMS/MMS... or wait and just pick it up for T-Mobile and continue life as normal?

It depends on how much you want to pay. At this point there is no word that you will be able to upgrade with T-Mobile in the USA. So far it seems that the only way you can purchase a Galaxy Nexus in the US is with Verizon. The rumor is that it is a Sixty day exclusive period with Verizon. With the current release date rumors we have that will place it at the end of January. Hell me may see phones being updated by then (OK that is a joke). If you want to import it will cost you around 800 and you will not get warranty that is usable and T-mobile will not support the Device. To be honest getting the Verizon Model is your best bet. You will get them blazing fast LTE and soon MMS with Google Voice. I think I will be waiting to January.
Port your current cell from T-Mobile to Google Voice, then just use the SGN on verizon. With google voice you'll be able to text for free and you can use it to make all your personal calls. Which means the numbers that show on your bill (that the company can see) won't be to see the actual numbers you are calling. I use GV and don't recognize any of the outgoing #s on my bill, plus you'll save $*

I've Google voice before but I don't know how it handled texts. If my personal friends only have my "Google voice" number and text me... it could be a mess.
Supposedly Google Voice is better supported in ICS.
As far as waiting or price.. I can wait and plan to anyway. I don't fully trust Samsung as a phone maker. I also am not buying it at full price. Period. My whole scheme for the past was to make sure I'd be eligible for discounted pricing.

re: tittle
i'll suggest the 32 GB version, every app / game you see are getting bigger and bigger by the day
No unlimited LTE is a huge factor for me.
Well I just confirmed that my company added Unlimited SMS to the packages so thats something I don't have to worry about.
I travel all over the US and while I love my Tmobile service locally, it usually screws me when I go anywhere (outside of big cities of course).
My logic is Tmobile 4G is basically 3G which is better then nothing when I travel. LTE I'm unsure about but it can always be disabled. Unfortunately all I have is a blackberry and I can't seem to figure out how to do a speed test on it (3G). I only pull down 2-3mpbs at my house and in my city on my 4G-capable LG G2x.
So it appears I will be ordering the GN on Verizon and killing my personal account. Although I was thinking more about Google Voice and maybe porting my Personal number but using Google Voice as my work number (since I only use it for calls).
I haven't used Google Voice for many calls but does it degrade the quality of voice or cut in and out, or is it just a forwarder service? (A little off track)
Also no one mentioned resell value. I'm sure the GSM version will have a larger resell value?
Of course the gsm version will have higher resale value. Thats the way its been and i dont see anything in verizons future that could possibly change the valuation of gsm phones.

True. But in weighing my options, it didn't occur to me right off the bat. But saving $80 a month justifies that for me.

VZW, only because its the only company that works at this damn base
I have an HTC Hero on Sprint (running CM7.1 of course), and I can't decide if I want to take the economic hit and switch to Verizon for the GNex. It's the only new phone I want, and Sprint seems to have banked everything on pleasing iPhone lemmings. It would be nice to get some answers from somebody in the States about this device.

Yes, its just a forwarder service. At one point, summer 2010 I think, GV required a data connection to connect calls and some people complained of the call quality, but that was fixed/updated. I use GV as my primary # and I haven't noticed any issues.

My company has military contracts that require us to visit bases across the US. VZW seems to be the only one that works properly.

Anyone know how well the Verizon GNex is selling? I'm curious how it's doing compared to the Rezound and RAZR.
Doing much better then the latter. However, the RAZR has all the promotion by VZW, but the educated know that the Nexus it the best investment.
I recently upgraded from my Galaxy Nexus to and S3 and I am trying to sell my Nexus on craigslist. I am stunned at how little interest I am getting how and how low other people are even selling theres. My phone is in mint, near perfect condition and after posting it for $350 and no dropping the price below $300 i still am getting no hits. I sold my wifes Droid Razr not too long ago for $250 and that was with a cracked screen. I don't get it.
Do people not realize what a good phone it is. To me its easy the second best phone in the Verizon line up after the s3. Back in the day I even sold my Thunderbolt the same day I posted it.
Any thoughts on why it has dropped in value and demand so quickly?
Maybe because you can get it for $350 brand new unlocked.... And because you have a **** CDMA one... GSM will always hold its value better. Honestly the Nexus isn't really marketed not many people even know what it is.
Because you can buy one brand new for $350. I'd charge $250 or so. $100 savings might bring some interest.
People would rather buy it for 350 plus the tax on Google because it is a huge international company.
It's 350 unlocked gsm. Resell of contact phones are lucky to fetch 250

Carrier locked CDMA phones without international roaming don't have the highest resale value ever.
why does everyone keep saying 350? thats for teh gsm version, if someone wants to have a gnexus on verizon that is useless for them. seeing as verizon is the largest network in america it makes sense there would be a large number of verzion customers who prolly couldnt care about the unlocked gsm version
i got one off craigslist CDMA for 190
BRAND NEW
lol
I have noticed that the GSM version are more popular, probably thanks to big red and all its BS with blocking features and updates. I started it at $350 and has since dropped it to $250 and still nothing. Just urks me when i see crap like the droid charge on there for almost the same price.
As a side note, the people with Verizon contracts don't have the option of buying it new for $350 but I hear what you gues are saying. Guess i can try ebay but craigslist is just so convenient.

I'd chalk it up to bad karma. -1 for getting rid of the Gnex.
To the OP, I just shopped for one on ebay -- ones that are described as being in excellent condition with clean esn are going for about $210 -$240 including shipping. I got lucky and snagged one for $185 but it came with no charger or usb.
Speaking of value if anyone has GSM for sale PM me..........CDMA don't hold value

Simple: there are newer phones out like the Galaxy S3. Whenever you're in a competitive environment (i.e. your products are not sufficiently differentiated - that is, e.g. when sheeple buy apple regardless of what anyone else has come out with), more competition translates to lower prices. And the new devices that have come out are basically newer and stronger competition.
Not-so-simple: people in Verizon are so locked-in (indeed, I hear non-contracts are more expensive) that they would rather just get the discount that comes with a contract anyway. Not to mention that, unless I am mistaken, the phone would not be usable on any networks except Verizon.
In other words, the perfect storm of low prices.
Bought my sprint one for 120! Also brand new. You gotta see what the market is like around you or sell on ebay

Everyone on Verizon can go get a VZW GNex for $0.01 today too on contract. If they're set on staying with Verizon that's the best deal.
Not to mention that the market is flooded with people buying them for $0.01 and reselling to make a few extra $$. The resale market for CDMA devices always sucks. When people can buy them for cheap, they're willing to sell them for cheap.

Yes, and the main market for used smartphones is the prepaid market. And the majority of the prepaid market is now GSM.

He's also looking for GSM (I'm pretty sure).
Guys I want to change my number but TMobile representative said that it can be done only under few circumstances. The reason about the spam is not valid for them. So does anybody know what it should be?
You can always change your number, you just have to pay a $10 fee

Well another call with a reason of relocation and number is changed without any fee.
Or just sign up for new plan activate new sim and boom u got new number
So went in to T-Mobile they want $130 down on the S8+. I am on JoD ( Jump on Demand ) typically they program just requires paying the taxes upfront only.
And I also need to switch my sim card out put in my wife's phone for 24 hrs and then come back for the deal to go well and smooth. Not sure what that's about ?
So I'll think about it and come back tomorrow.
That's the down payment now. They want the monthly lease to come to about 30, so that's how it works out. As the prices of new phones go up, so will our down payments
When I spoke to a T-Mobile rep, I was told that the issue is not the cost of the phone but a deal T-Mobile made with Samsung. As a way to help recoup the costs of the note 7. true or not, that is what I was told. As well I was promised that "In the unlikely event that the Note 8 also contains a down payment, the S8's down payment will be transferable"

LOL... that's so funny... I was told by the store manager that any phone is above $720 the diff will be paid upfront as a down payment no matter what phone and no matter for how long you have been a customer.

I've heard similar as well, and in the event that were true (which I think we will see as new phones come out). All T-Mobile customers need to revolt basically, because that is NOT what is in the terms of JoD. From the mouth of John Legere himself "You won't pay a single penny out of pocket to walk out the door with your new phone, not even sales tax" "Up to 3 new phones a year" " And all of it at $0 out the door, $0 at upgrades, $0 Fees, 0 wait, 0 bull****... and yes it really is that simple"
As well on their own site....
"As low as zero upfront—switch to a new phone whenever you want, up to 3x a year, and pay nothing up front for base model of devices (ie: the 16GB model of iPhone 6s), for well–qualified buyers. If you cancel wireless, remaining balance on phone becomes due.
Zero at upgrade—never pay for upgrade—just trade in your eligible phone."
So by their own definition the s8 can not cost $30 or $130, and the Note8 can not cost anything.
https://uncarrier.t-mobile.com/phone-upgrades
I called in armed with this info, and called BS on it being $130/$30 based on these terms. And was fed the line previously stated. I plan on calling back in tomorrow when I order the phone to fight it one more time to see where it gets me.
I traded in my LG V10 today for a S8+ and I had to pay $130 down.

Same exact price for the S7 edge. That's why I had got a regular s7. Big mistake, I lamented that decision for a year.
My husband traded in his (formerly my) lg v10 for an s8. We went in for the 8+ but when we found out about the 130 up front it made no sense financially. He'll most likely be trying the note 8 when it comes out so that 130 would be a total waste!
Honestly... I thought the whole point of jod was no big upfront payment. What's the point of paying all that up front to "rent" a phone? Unless you're keeping it for a long time 130 up front plus the monthly for the few months before the note 8 comes out... Doesn't seem to be a wise way to spend money.
Unless I'm just figuring it all wrong...

Your not renting the device. You are financing it like a car. You can swap next year, but you don't have too. You can pay it off whenever you like and sell it. They did the same thing with the S7 and the S7 edge. It cost more, you pay more to keep the monthly payment the same.
Meh. I'd rather pay the same monthly with the 0 down and a higher payoff amount at the end if I choose to keep it.
Actually I'd probably even rather pay a higher monthly amount than paying a 100+ down-payment but I guess that's just me.
He's enjoying the s8 so far so we'll see how things look when the note 8 gets closer.
I'm on an lg v20 so what would I know? lol
I'm the family phone nerd so I have to keep up on all the newness!
There has always been a down payment on the "premium" phones weather it be the screen size that is bigger or the storage bigger of the same model. You aren't changed a down payment for the regular S8 just the S8+ because it the bigger more expensive one.
This was the case for the S7e where the regular S7 had no down payment either. And all the other models that had 2 versions

I called BS on this as well and it escalated to Legere's office. They even have the nerve to still keep the JOD announcement posted on the T-Mobile YouTube channel (search "Uncarrier Amped"). They still haven't gotten back to me, and I doubt they will because they have no good answer. The whole point of JOD for me was that I could use the newest devices without a large upfront investment. Allowing customers to Jump 3x/year acknowledges the premise that we don't plan on paying devices off, hence the lease option. Who wants to sink a down payment into something they won't keep? It makes more financial sense to amortize that investment by paying a higher monthly fee. They aren't being altruistic by asking for money up front to "keep your payments low", they're mitigating the financial impact of your device trade-in, and passing the brunt of the depreciation on to customers.
