Currently I'm on LOS 15.1, I would like to give MIUI10 a try. In the past I lost data before due to encryption, will I lose my data if I install miui?
I don't expect it to work because you are dirty flashing a ROM from another developer... it will mostly end up in an endless bootloop.

No **** genius, I only need to know after I will flash MIUI10 from LOS which includes a full wipe, if it will keep my internal storage (photos etc)

Hey dude this is a forum not a bar to get pissed off and you didn't mention that you were going to do a full system wipe excluding internal storage...if that's the case then your photos etc. will be intact but firstly just make a backup just to be safe, where have your manners gone mate.

Just thought it was common knowledge that you don't dirty flash from another Android UI to another one. But yeah I apologise for that.

Why don't you use ti backup? It makes a backup of your apps and data
Though you could try dirty flashing but you will likely run into more issues
Though I would erase everything and clean flash the update

For backing up apps? Well titanium backup has a ton of options but if you don't want to spent $7 on an app then I would use carbon backup

you shouldn't need to clean flash the nightly. just flash it. that's it.
Calisro,
what you mean with this... "you shouldn't need to clean flash the nightly. just flash it. that's it."..??
please explain me....

What he means is that what your trying to do is basically an update.
Your not flashing a different build or rom, your just updating your existing build.
Your just adding some updates and changes that the dev made so that your build is current.
Download update to your sd card, go to your recovery and flash away. (Probably wouldn't hurt to wipe cashe and dalvic)
You should check the rom thread, there may be specific instructions on how to update, usually if no special instruction is posted, its just a matter of flashing the update and rebooting.
By the way "clean flashing" is when you wipe all data, like factory reset.

yes as long as you are just upgrading from cm to cm.
OK, I dont want to post in the ROM area.. as far as I remember I am suppose to post here.
So I would like to install 14.1 on my note 2 I317. I did it last night.. not great results, but it was the root thing.
I am not sure the dev thread is updated on the latest way to upgrade the phone.
Anyone help? I flash the rom, then the apps (is the stock still the best option?) and then what do I do about root, because in the last few posts of the dev thread I see something about not flashing.. and flashing.
and then there is the HWC thing? am I doing this>? or no?
James
Also I am coming from way back on a rom called SLIMFAST 4.4 - If I want to carry over apps and data.. what is the best way to do that? or can I really?
James
You will carry the data (music, videos etc.), but app data no.
I don't recommend you to flash HWC as you are beginning with this and it is still test stuff.
Anyway steps:
1. Flash latest version of TWRP.
2. Backup. (In case something goes wrong)
3. Wipe dalvik, cache, system, data.
4. Install LineageOS.
5. Install Google Apps. There aren't 'the best'. It all depends on you which you want to use/how much google stuff you want on your phone.
6. Install magisk for root - http://tiny.cc/latestmagisk
7. Reboot.

Or u can just backup APKs using this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.usage.appbackup
And restore them with just one click using this :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sharon.oneclickinstaller
But if you want data too, Titanium is good
well since the install the first time did not work well I restored the backup I did.. Now tonight I was trying to use the gps, and it is now not working since I restored the backup?
Is it possible something happened there??
When you restore a backup ( I did a complete with everything) I dont have to wipe stuff out first do I?

well, the partitions that is going to be restored are wiped by default before restoring the backup, so there's no need to wipe, it might be a bug in the ROM and you didn't notice it before.
anyway, you can try wiping manually then restore.
btw, your thread name is confusing, it's better not to right in that form......[ROM][7.1.2][OFF..........when it's a normal help thread.
well I am not sure it is a normal help thread.
For 2 years I have been using slimfast 4.4 no issues - and then I decided to try this rom, and it breaks my GPS.
I have restored 3 different backups I had of slimfast 4.4 dating back to January 2015. None of them does the GPS work.
Before I tried the 7.1 upgrade I was locking 22 satellites in about 45 seconds. Now I cannot lock to 1.
Is there an issue with this rom that would break the GPS to the point that no matter what rom is in it wont work?
Or can someone give me a hint on what to try next? I can try and re-do the upgrade via Option58s instructions.

yes it's a normal help thread, your thread name is more like a ROM thread name!, however...
did you try a clean install of the kitkat rom first?
maybe something is making a conflict or whatever I'm not sure..
try a clean install and see if the GPS is fixed.
clean install of 4.4 and no gps. apps that can show if the hardware is there, so it is present and available? but no app gets a lock.. on even 1 satalite.

I'm not sure, last thing to try is Flashing stock ROM, if that didn't help it, then it's a hardware damage.

It will take the complete data and apps backup, useful if you flash the backup file for same android version any ROM.

I have complete backup of my stock ROM and one custom ROM. Now cosmic OS. Used RR for long and got bored so changed the ROM.
Cosmic os is really superb....
I just go to stock ROM when I get into important stuff, like taking photos, videos etc. After it just wipe all and restore backup.
Restoring just takes couple of mins.So I just have two ROM in mobile always.

Hi, can you please tell me the links for stock stock MM and stock N as i couldn't find them. I want to go back to stock. Currently using RR and I don't have any important data so should I format and then flash stock rom? Also, we have to install stock rom like other custom roms by usual method( flashing rom and gapps)?

Look for thread with similar name
All Nougat odex package twrp flashable
In rom section
Better wipe data, system, dalvik, cache.
Gapps not required.

I've been thinking about installing LineageOS on my Galaxy A5 2017 but one step that often comes on other tutorials is that you need to factory reset your device. Backing up data can be a pain in the ass especially when you have lots of files and contacts and it sometimes crashes mid-way through the operation. So do I really need to factory reset my entire device in order to install Android 10 on my phone?

Yes. If you intend to install GApps, you can backup in Google cloud.
I prefer no GApps set-up. In that case most of the system has to be made new anyway.

Good Afternoon.
A question for you guys, every time i try to wipe my current rom and flash another custom rom, or an update to the current rom on my begonia (with cfw installed), my damn internal storage gets encrypted, so ive got no choice but to format it, or else i can't access it, which is a major pain...
Do you guys know of a way to prevent this??
I'm running twrp recovery with cfw support.
And am pretty sure i'm not f-ing up with the rom installation instructions...

Hi, If you setup the lockscreen on your ROM you will encrypt the internal storage and TWRP will ask you the password to decrypt it.
If u remove the lockscreen before entering recovery you won't have to decrypt the internal storage.
Thanks but some kind souls on discord helped me out, using a disable encryption zip fixed it.

In TWRP, mount Data and using the in-built File Manager, check inside /data/media/0 (this is where your Internal Storage is located)
