Well, early to say if the development is strong or not, but we have official LOS, AOSP builds from Sony and will be available official Sailfish OS 3

Coming from a Nokia 6 and 7 plus, the prospects for this phone are stratospherically higher.
It has:
Aosp source code from Sony themselves.
Unlocked bootloader.
Already has a few roms. Nokia 6 is out longer and has nothing in comparison due to it lacking the aforementioned.
This phone should see some decent Dev support most likely.
I only just got this phone but the only thing that could be an issue is the drm stuff that gets lost when the bootloader is unlocked. Heard that it can be patched in but still, "something" still goes on a one way trip and doesn't not come back

The only difference after flashing LineageOS was that the camera resolution dropped from 24MP to 20MP, everything else still works. Even 4K recording.
Since 24MP still works on the stock ROM, this doesn't seem to be DRM related. I also did not notice a drop in camera quality. It seems that unlocking does not really remove features on the XA2.

Is the same the camera on stock rom and Lineage?

It's not the same app, but you get the same features. Manual mode with adjusting ISO, shutter etc. works fine and switching resolutions, too.
The only thing that doesn't seem to work is RAW support. It seems the device doesn't support it (haven't tested RAW on the stock ROM).

Best Camera app/strategy for the Z1 Compact???

Hey guys!
I recently bought the Z1 Compact, mainly for the camera and the small size.
Now, I have been going through some content on the web and have come across people reporting against Sony's compression strategy which basically comes to play in the Superior Auto mode in its own camera app (which it does while upsampling or whevever).
Now, I also see some other camera apps on the market like Google's own camera app and Flickr's app and would like to know if there's any difference in image quality between them.
Also, what's the best 'strategy' to take pictures with this phone.. take 8 MP in Superior Auto mode or take full-resolution shots and then compress them via some software on the computer?? (and if yes, which software and how?).
Also, will I see any difference in the camera performance if I install Cyanogenmod on my device. If yes, what sort?
Waiting to hear back
Cheers!
Use hd camera pro an camera 360 ultimate

You will see a difference, as CM (and every other AOSP ROM) doesn't have the fine-tuned camera drivers Sony uses. So image quality will be lower.
I use Google Camera for the panorama/photosphere functionalities, and Sony's camera for everything else. On Xposed there is a mod that changes the Superior Auto resolution to the max resolution, you could try that.

LG G4, cm/aosp and camera quality like vs stock?

Looking at moving from a G3 to a G4 and wondered, for those that are running a cm or aosp based ROM, what's the quality of the pictures like vs those taken with a stock ROM?
Thanks
My opinion
Well i used diffrent custom ROMs (CM, Blisspop,) and stock ROM, and by my experience i think stock rom produces better pictures, i dont know why or how or if stock really produces better pictures, but thats just my opinion. would like to hear experiences from more veteran CM based rom users.
Normally cm/aosp camera are not as great as stock.
My last phone(LG Optimus G) had the same issue but when Devs started to implement the stock drivers from camera into cm/aosp then the quality was almost the same as stock.
Don't know how devs are working here because i have the phone only for 2 weeks but for what i see the biggest "problem" is the way to unlock the bootloader.
It seems LG just made a step back with this phone in terms of development.

Stock camera is definitely better - you could use other camera apps like "Camera FV-5" or "A Better Camera" for better results with CM/AOSP based roms.
Greetings
Medizinmann
- Can't use shutter speeds longer than 0.5s with 3rd party cameras even on stock firmware. That is quite a drop from the 30s stock can do.
- Some examples i saw showed that auto in low light does not work well at all. Max ISO which is something that never happens in stock auto.
- How do they get access to use the colour sensor & laser auto focus.
- what resolution is CM burst mode (9MP stock) & CM panorama (can be in excess of 100MP with stock) etc.
- night shot which is a mode automatically used in low light with the rear camera that employs image averaging is lost. Night shot mode is used much more often with the front camera. So selfies are not going to be as crisp.
- unclear whether unlocking the boot loader causes any permanent loss to the above.
I've not even seen full resolution examples from cm camera just reduced resolutions. So cannot tell if sharpness of details in the distance is retained or not.
Early days, we'll have to see how it goes. There's a lot of testing that remains to be done to even begin to answer the OP's question.
If you want CM that bad get a device that runs it out of the box. Wiley Fox swift is one example.
Thanks for this post, I was wonderful the same question.
What is the current situation, for exemple with snap camera designed for G4?
Thanks to anyone for an update answer!
Snap Camera does a great Job, since codeworxx startet to work on it. Besides the ui, that is not as individual as LG's, almost every feature from the stock cam is working (except high speed/slomo filming I guess). Picture quality is getting pretty close to the stock camera . I use it as a daily driver and I'm pretty satisfied with it.

How to get the best camera quality?

So, this is it. I'm running ZUI 2.5.412 ST, and read somewhere that it has a glass lens and it can compete with many high quality cellphone cameras. The thing is, that with stock camera app I'm not getting nearly the performance on mid light as i see on youtube. Pretty much on outside light it looks amazing (anyway, the fact that i cannot tell the difference there doesn't mean that it's not there). Also there are [email protected] videos there, where the stock camera app and stock zui doesn't let me modify the fps settings at any way, the questions are mostl likely:
1) Is stock camera app the best quality option? I'm not into ROMs and this kind of apps neither, so don't know how much it would change. Could I change the fps and more quality settings with this or that is a ROM-thing
2) I want to flash a new ROM (as I read, Jaguar is the most stable) but, if I'm not mistaken, general camera quality for videos and photos on ROMs tends to be worse, can you confirm me this? Or there's a ROM with good photos and video quality that I can check out? I'm using automatic settings and that's mostly what I look for, anyway wouldnt mind having great manual settings to adjust if i want to for some specific shots!
3) When you flash camera blobs and default camera app on a custom ROM, what does it really mean? I can get stock performance on custom ROMs? Will it work for any camera app as long as I install the blobs?
4) What's the native and best output scalation for front camera and front back camera? Don't know how to tell if the lens are 4:3, 1:1 or 16:9, is there info of that somewhere?
Thank you so much!
Stock ZUI has better camera quality than a custom ROM. AFAIK, no one has ported the ZUI camera app and framework to a custom ROM.
On a Nougat custom ROM without camera2 API support, your best bet is the OnePlus camera app. It does HDR, but photos are still awful. This is the current setup I have, and photos are much worse than the Nexus 5 I migrated from (which used the GCam app with HDR+).
Some Oreo ROMs support camera2 API, so you can use a modded GCam app. Google's HDR+ algorithm produces pretty decent photos. This is probably the highest quality you'll get on a custom ROM - but it's still a little unstable at the moment and I don't know how it compares to the ZUI camera.

Yes, but I mean, I saw some photos on youtube/google and also videos, my quality is not even near that, I understand photos could be taken with manual options, but the videos too? Also saw that many low-light videos look slow af, mines doesn't, but the quality is waaaay worse. Don't know what setting I'm missing really. Does the OnePlus camera app let you configure all the settings for photos and video? Or it's as limited as the stock one?
No, the OnePlus app has very few configuration options. It's probably worse than stock in that regard.
You could try flashing one of the ROMs with camera2 API support and see how you find the quality of GCam HDR+. I don't know where you saw videos of fantastic Z2 camera performance - it's always been really disappointing for me personally, regardless of settings or configuration.

I have a nexus 5 , looking to upgrade. Good choice?
I keep switching between ZUI stock camera app, Open Camera, and Camera MX app.
I guess they process images quite differently from each other so at different condition, different app (out of those 3) produce good results.
I am not a camera guru so I rarely go manual. So I keep switching between those three in auto mode to find the best one to shoot.

I got the Z2 early this year - it was a good replacement for the N5. Similar form factor, much better battery life, faster performance. But the N5 has a better camera and the ROM scene was much better.

Yes, but only on Oreo roms because only there does the camera2 api work, and at the time all the Oreo ROMs are on an alpha stage, so unless someone manages to enable c2a on nougat, or if you want to be using an alpha/beta stage roms, you will have to wait a bit for the best experience

Thanks for the update. That's encouraging! I would've migrated the phone to Oreo if it were not for the lack of Agps.

A-GPS is network assisted GPS and it's not yet possible on Oreo for ZUK Z2. GPS on the other hand will work but a location fix will take minutes, that means no instantaneous location sharing or resolution in apps.

Long exposure mode 32 sec [request]

Hi,
With the all Oreo roms out there for our zuk z2, developers had tried very hard to bring camera2 API to our device.
Though still we are missing those incredible night shots from stock with long exposure upto 32 sec.
All Oreo roms supports exposure time upto 1/2 seconds only.
This is a request to all developers please add support for long exposure time in manual camera.
Some developers had achieved this through modifying camera libs of their device.
Hope some one will look into this.
I know this is not easy and might not significantly important to all but this is humble request to all developers.
Thanks.

Same here.
Tried almost all camera mods but none of them worked.
It may be hal3 issue or some libs need to be modified.
The redmi note 4 have a mod for change camera libs to take 32s exposure.
Maybe for Zuk needs makes that change too.

Exactly !!
I think very few people are interested in this or didn't aware about the power of manual camera controls !!
If more and more people requests then may be some developer will try to do the same.
Seriously, a good range of shutter speed is needed in manual camera. In oreo roms other than zui, i get a max of 1s exposure time in Lightroom's camera. Nothing good. Zui stock camera had 32s exposure time that was impressive. Rom developers are throwing at us several features but this part is always overlooked.
Also, in case of video recording, I cannot get 60fps or truly 120 fps slo-mo working in oreo custom roms. And recording is also much darker, i mean it is useless to record video anymore. These things need to be taken care of, rather than some cutting edge features, devs should fix these first (if it's possible)
Hi any developer here ??
Please consider this
Hey,
Is it possible to introduce both camera API 1&2 and so hal1 and hal3 like OnePlus users did ??
If we do this then we can use long exposure and Google cam by just switching hals.
Take a look at this-

You can do one thing, flash a oreo rom and dual boot zui for long expo shots

I tried to search that too but some users reported that dual boot doesn't work with Oreo roms.
And also it would not be feasible to boot both major os.
If anyone is here who has some skills then please try to implement old camera API & hal.
Anyone?
I hope the Dev's consider this.. @optimumpro @amog787 @rodrigo rodriguez @AgustinLorenzo @davidevinavil ..

Question To those running custom ROMs, do you guys miss OOS Cam?

Post title.
I've had this phone for nearly a year at this point, and the main reason I got it was on my OP7P, all the nice custom roms I could try out. However, the difference between there and here is that custom ROMs on that phone had OOS Cam, they also had the ability to dualboot.
I've avoided being on a custom rom this entire time is because I don't want to give up OOS Cam, but what do you guys feel about the lack of it? I know GCam exists but you can't use 4K120/60 video recording with GCam as far as I know. Has there been any changes to the app to allow for that?
I think that more and more people are asking for it to be integrated in custom ROMs. The thing is that on the opposite of the OnePlus 7 OOS cam app, the OnePlus 9 Pro's is heavily tied to OPPO's ColorOS Camera. And from what I understood, ColorOS has been a pain to deal with for developers, as OPPO isn't as community orentied as OnePlus.
That's one of the things stopping me from switching to a custom ROM. When I've tried GCam on OOS, none of the ports are stable enough. I'm not a huge camera user, but if my camera could crash when I WANT to use it, that would piss me off.
I found somewhere in this forum port of OOS cam, photos and videos working, some features missing tho, lucky I don't use them
So, custom ROM can live with OOS cam

That camera is from OP7 AFAIk, and it's next to useless. photo processing is broken, and video fails at 60fps, so people may as well use Gcam since it's does a far better job than that broken port.
