So, this is it. I'm running ZUI 2.5.412 ST, and read somewhere that it has a glass lens and it can compete with many high quality cellphone cameras. The thing is, that with stock camera app I'm not getting nearly the performance on mid light as i see on youtube. Pretty much on outside light it looks amazing (anyway, the fact that i cannot tell the difference there doesn't mean that it's not there). Also there are [email protected] videos there, where the stock camera app and stock zui doesn't let me modify the fps settings at any way, the questions are mostl likely:
1) Is stock camera app the best quality option? I'm not into ROMs and this kind of apps neither, so don't know how much it would change. Could I change the fps and more quality settings with this or that is a ROM-thing
2) I want to flash a new ROM (as I read, Jaguar is the most stable) but, if I'm not mistaken, general camera quality for videos and photos on ROMs tends to be worse, can you confirm me this? Or there's a ROM with good photos and video quality that I can check out? I'm using automatic settings and that's mostly what I look for, anyway wouldnt mind having great manual settings to adjust if i want to for some specific shots!
3) When you flash camera blobs and default camera app on a custom ROM, what does it really mean? I can get stock performance on custom ROMs? Will it work for any camera app as long as I install the blobs?
4) What's the native and best output scalation for front camera and front back camera? Don't know how to tell if the lens are 4:3, 1:1 or 16:9, is there info of that somewhere?
Thank you so much!
Stock ZUI has better camera quality than a custom ROM. AFAIK, no one has ported the ZUI camera app and framework to a custom ROM.
On a Nougat custom ROM without camera2 API support, your best bet is the OnePlus camera app. It does HDR, but photos are still awful. This is the current setup I have, and photos are much worse than the Nexus 5 I migrated from (which used the GCam app with HDR+).
Some Oreo ROMs support camera2 API, so you can use a modded GCam app. Google's HDR+ algorithm produces pretty decent photos. This is probably the highest quality you'll get on a custom ROM - but it's still a little unstable at the moment and I don't know how it compares to the ZUI camera.

Yes, but I mean, I saw some photos on youtube/google and also videos, my quality is not even near that, I understand photos could be taken with manual options, but the videos too? Also saw that many low-light videos look slow af, mines doesn't, but the quality is waaaay worse. Don't know what setting I'm missing really. Does the OnePlus camera app let you configure all the settings for photos and video? Or it's as limited as the stock one?
No, the OnePlus app has very few configuration options. It's probably worse than stock in that regard.
You could try flashing one of the ROMs with camera2 API support and see how you find the quality of GCam HDR+. I don't know where you saw videos of fantastic Z2 camera performance - it's always been really disappointing for me personally, regardless of settings or configuration.

I have a nexus 5 , looking to upgrade. Good choice?
I keep switching between ZUI stock camera app, Open Camera, and Camera MX app.
I guess they process images quite differently from each other so at different condition, different app (out of those 3) produce good results.
I am not a camera guru so I rarely go manual. So I keep switching between those three in auto mode to find the best one to shoot.

I got the Z2 early this year - it was a good replacement for the N5. Similar form factor, much better battery life, faster performance. But the N5 has a better camera and the ROM scene was much better.

Yes, but only on Oreo roms because only there does the camera2 api work, and at the time all the Oreo ROMs are on an alpha stage, so unless someone manages to enable c2a on nougat, or if you want to be using an alpha/beta stage roms, you will have to wait a bit for the best experience

Thanks for the update. That's encouraging! I would've migrated the phone to Oreo if it were not for the lack of Agps.

A-GPS is network assisted GPS and it's not yet possible on Oreo for ZUK Z2. GPS on the other hand will work but a location fix will take minutes, that means no instantaneous location sharing or resolution in apps.

I found it on 4pda but i think developer was from this forum.
I dont take any credit, i didnt port this camera nor was in the process in any way...
Dont ask me for porting something else etc...
This is flashable zip, go in TWRP and flash, reboot, voila
This camera is by my opinion one of the best for custom roms, based on Nougat.
Snapdragon stock camera records dark videos and panoramas so this is good alternative...
For OREO i advise to use OnePlus camera because of API2.
Im on AEX 4.4 rom 24.07 build, using Heliox kernel 15.10 build, flashed camera blobs extracted from stock nougat.

Doesnt work:
Panorama mode
Panorama selfie
and some other options which are specific to Lenovo phones.
PRO mode is working, you can set manualy some parameters, really nice options...
This is a comparison of OnePlus 2.5.12 camera and this LCS camera:
Tested during night:
Video recording is better with LSC camera, in low light. Also Lenovo camera has option to take pictures during recording. Zoom is faster with LSC when recording.
For pictures I give advance to OnePlus camera, faster autofocus, also it has feature to brighten the image, like iPhone.
But I think picture details are better with LSC. When you zoom you can see the difference. Also double the size of pictures for LSC. But focus with LSC can sometimes be missed. For focus advantage goes to OnePlus.
Selfie definitely better with LSC, with OnePlus pictures are yellowish.
Tested during daylight:
Video autofocus is much quicker and less noticeable in LCS camera, OnePlus zooms like its taking a picture and defocused period is much longer than on LCS.
Pictures have warmer colors with LCS, and more details, but OnePlus is definitely winner for autofocus and sharpness of an image... You can achieve that with LCS but you have to get used to it and see when focus is not right and manually tap for focus. Or move away the phone to let it zoom again and take another picture. LCS focus is not bad at all but Oneplus camera is much faster and more accurate.
Here is also latest gcam that works without API 2
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...06-126161292-2-android-apk-download/download/
I think is creates the best panoramas. Needs more testing...
Today i saw it creates dark images in low light but panorama stays light.
This app is only for PANORAMA mode.
Thanks for sharing mate.
Currently I'm using this and the Camera from OP5. Both seems to be the best alternative cameras for the Custom ROMs

Absolutely. They have their cons and pros but combined makes camera perfect . Only slow motion doesnt work good with any camera... But i can live without it.
Oreo ZUI is out for our phone btw, i hope camera on custom OREO roms will get even better and that zui developers enabled api2 finally....
HDR+ google camera makes really nice photos...
Bad news, looks like ZUI devs didn't enabled API2 even in OREO rom...
I asked few guys which installed the rom, HDR+ cannot be found. But they say camera is much improved...

Which ROM?
miui9 with Camera2 enable way too much noise
Official Aicp 12.1, Google Camera can't focus, in the end i'm using bacon camera
Unofficial LOS 15.1 Too much noise again
The best picture i could get with my Mi6 was with the stock rom and default camera

I'm surprised.
Google camera on any ROM I've used has been consistently better than any other set up.
I don't even use HDR+ because of the autofocus issues.
Just normal photos.
Always better than stock camera and others even when using HDR+ with those.
Video is another area though. Only MIUI camera produces consistent video quality.
Gcam just lags and crashes.
Bacon camera was decent enough as an alternative for video.
Currently on AOSPA I have gcam for normal photos and MIUI camera for video and special photos
I was really eager to use Gcam, the phone i had before the Mi6 was a J5 Prime.. So no Gcam either. Everyone said it was an awesome camera, so i waited 72 hours, unlocked bootloader, twrp and then enable camera2.. I tried a few gcam mods and in my Mi6 none of them where superior to the default camera that came with miui9.

I may disagree with you, slightly. While MIUI camera isn't really great, it isn't trash.
I've also gone through quite a few gcams and configs. It's a hassle for the average user. Not all sensors work great on all configs. Also, sometimes not all modes work good. HDR+ enhanced may improve details (especially for macro and ultrawide), but it takes longer time and introduces some artifacts in some instances.
On the other end, MIUI camera takes instantaneous shots that look good on most occasions.
If you ask me, the average experience is the same in both cameras, one compensates for the other's shortcomings.
For anyone interested, wyroczen's 6.1 reborn has bufferfix even for non-rooted devices. And builds based on gcam 7.3 are mostly stable and capable of utilizing all sensors. Configs differ in number of stacked photos, color reproduction and detail/noise processing, and it's mostly a matter of taste, you can even make your own.

Don't get me wrong, the stock MIUI camera is ideal in terms of functionality, ease of use and quality, but if you're not running the stock ROM, the alternatives are decent. I have one app for video with EIS, one for night time shots and one for pics. Slightly inconvenient to switch around, but it's a small price to pay to run an unmolested AOSP A10 GSI ROM.

That's exactly my point, glad we're on the same page
In order to compensate for stock camera performance, you'll go through a lot of trouble, which is why a good stock camera port should also be an option.
As for me, when i used AOSP, I'd add a lot of mods through xposed and magisk. MIUI already has them so I guess this time I will pass.
As a number of people have commented here-- be aware that the MIUI 12 stock cam produces DRAMATICALLY better photos that MIUI 11 did, particularly in indoor/low light situations. The results rival Gcam, without the fuss. And MIUI 12 itself is very good.
Has anyone gotten the stock camera app from OOS to work on LineageOS?
I've used systemizer to install the app to /ststem/priv-app but upon launching the app it crashes after it has gathered permissions.
Using the shortcut to Pro mode opens the app long enough to show an image through the camera. But it crashes nonetheless.
Or does gcam work nearly as well as the fancy stock cam?

The stock camera performs good but the Gcam is better in all aspects, it enhances the phone's camera to improve the quality of the photos and videos. I use Gcam in my 9 Pro which gives much better photos compared to the stock camera.

But the high-resolution option in the stock camera gives a very sharp image that is not natural and Gcam gives photos with natural colors so I prefer it.

It's not about what you preffer. Most important thing - gcam is unable to use full set of camera hardware capabilities. Thus, it's not a real replacement. I can be only considered as additional software, nice to use. In my case, for 360 photos for example. I want to have both - stock and gcam.
But I'm not surprised you can't run stock gcam on non stock rom, because it probably requires some closed source libs, which can't be embedded eaisly, or have license issues.
Also taking videos doesn't work either.

Still hangs when you set 60 fps, even viewfinder is black. With config loaded. Without config, I can't use all cams and video is always 30 fps.
60/120 fps should be supported. So, again - gcam is not stock camera replacement. I only use it for 360 photos, astro and better night mode
Post title.
I've had this phone for nearly a year at this point, and the main reason I got it was on my OP7P, all the nice custom roms I could try out. However, the difference between there and here is that custom ROMs on that phone had OOS Cam, they also had the ability to dualboot.
I've avoided being on a custom rom this entire time is because I don't want to give up OOS Cam, but what do you guys feel about the lack of it? I know GCam exists but you can't use 4K120/60 video recording with GCam as far as I know. Has there been any changes to the app to allow for that?
I think that more and more people are asking for it to be integrated in custom ROMs. The thing is that on the opposite of the OnePlus 7 OOS cam app, the OnePlus 9 Pro's is heavily tied to OPPO's ColorOS Camera. And from what I understood, ColorOS has been a pain to deal with for developers, as OPPO isn't as community orentied as OnePlus.
That's one of the things stopping me from switching to a custom ROM. When I've tried GCam on OOS, none of the ports are stable enough. I'm not a huge camera user, but if my camera could crash when I WANT to use it, that would piss me off.
I found somewhere in this forum port of OOS cam, photos and videos working, some features missing tho, lucky I don't use them
So, custom ROM can live with OOS cam

That camera is from OP7 AFAIk, and it's next to useless. photo processing is broken, and video fails at 60fps, so people may as well use Gcam since it's does a far better job than that broken port.
