IMEI Printed On Device - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Does anyone else have their IMEI actually printed on the back of the device? I'm not talking about the sticker than you can peel off, but printed directly under the LG emblem? I've go through several devices a year, and have never seen this before. I'm wondering if I got a bunk device, because I've had all kinds of issues with the phone since I picked it up this past weekend. I got a T-Mobile version through JOD. The issues I've had are bluetooth and wifi connectivity issues. Both go on and off randomly through the day. My bluetooth took awhile to set up in the car, and sometimes it will connect the media, but not the actual phone (if that makes sense). Also, I've been having some crazy lag. Camera takes about 5 seconds to open, and certain apps like YouTube and Google Play Music take about 5-7 seconds to open as well.
Any advice is appreciated.

They all have the Imei printed on them
Not sure what that has to do with any of your issues though

Oh okay. Good to know. I thought I somehow received a test or early release device somehow.

my T-Mobile G7 (via JOD) has the IMEI on the back (printed) but my phone is running great. I've had no issues and quite enjoy it. I jumped from an S9 and couldn't be happier. Not that the S9 is a bad phone, I'm actually just digging this LG phone more which is surprising.
Have you tried to factory reset the phone? if so and it still gives you issues, take it back to T-Mobile as a defective unit and get another one.

I also did a JOD upgrade from the S9 and agree it is a good phone. Just wanted see what to G7 had to offer although I was hesitant after several issues with 2 V30's. So far I'm liking it. Worse case scenario is if it makes me mad, I can always JOD back to the S9 or S9+.
I also couldn't really just the color. I got the Raspberry Rose. And an FYI, the S9 also has the IMEI printed on the back in the same place as the G7, it's just harder to see because of the darker color of those phones.

yeah, my local store only had the raspberry rose but I wanted silver. So the store manager waived overnight shipping for me and I got it the next day via shipping. Same here, if I decide I don't want it longer than 30 days, I can go back to a S9... but so far I don't see that happening unless something major crops up.

I was coming from a S9+, and it was the 1st Sammy phone I've had that was actually smooth, and had great RAM management. The G7 I got a few days ago was a bit of a let down. I did 2 factory resets hoping it would help, and it didn't. I really want to give this phone a try, so I just went to T-Mobile to swap for another unit. Hoping this one performs better.

It should. Mine runs great. Even better than the v30+ I have.

New one is MUUUUUCH better. Feels "right" now.

My camera opens a little slower with AI on, but not with it off. The only issue I've had is the light bleed at the bottom of the screen.

there are some issues opening apps, especially the LG apps like messaging. this will likely be ironed out in the coming updates, but i have noticed them. this phone tends to act more like a SD835 rather than an SD845.
every manufacturer is rushing to market these days. the past few phones i've tried have all had lots of bugs. my s9+ had so many that i had to return it. give it time. eventually LG has to give us an update, although i'm already frustrated that it's the middle of the month and i'm still on May security patch.

Mine had a sticker.

Yes there is a sticker that can be removed but look lower on the back below the LG logo you will see it printed on the back. It's really small.

I have Burn In, advice?

I have burn in on my S3, it is from a golf GPS app that I use frequently. I used it for about 6 months with no problems, then all of a sudden after 1 round of golf a couple of weeks ago the outlines of the app are intensely burned into my screen. I am not sure I understand why all of the sudden it became an issue, as I did not change any settings prior to the round and used it how I always used it before.
At any rate, I'm still within the year of when I purchased it from AT&T. I called AT&T and they told me my options, please let me know what you think:
1. try to get Samsung to replace (do they cover burn in?)
2. AT&T warranty center will replace with a refurbished (most reasonable option, but I've had really bad experiences with AT&T always replacing the phone with a *more* broken unit than the one it was replacing...so am scared of this)
3. AT&T says I am eligible for an upgrade, so I could get a free S3 from them or get a new S4 and pay upgrade price
4. combination of 2 & 3, get a refurbished to replace my burned in S3, sell on ebay and then upgrade to the S4--maybe someone else will have better luck with a refurb'd item, as they never work for me
What do you guys think?

4 sounds like a good solution. Although, the S4 is like the S3s, pretty much the same phone, with some small upgrades.
You can also try your luck with a refurb and keep your upgrade for something better. Summer is coming = device release.
Got a replacement yesterday. So far, so good. It even seems to work with GPS better than my previous one. Hopefully it lasts!
So had the phone only a few days as a replacement from Att. Tonight it locked up and would not respond to anything and I had to reseat the battery to get it to respond. Think this is a bad sign and should I take it back or give it the full 30 day warranty??

I had a Galaxy 4G that used to do that all the time, the only fix was to reboot it before charging (every couple days). Depending on how much you are willing to pay I think I would go with the S4 option since you are probably only going to get refurbished phones as replacements.

Is there any phone better than the S4 anticipated to come out in the next 9 months or so? Removing the battery every now and then isn't a huge deal, though when I buttoned everything back up and put the case back on, it caused the corners of my Zagg to stretch out a little which is really annoying. I wonder if doing this repeatedly could cause the Zagg to get worse.

If Samsung keeps to it's current strategy, you will probably be looking at the s5 in a little more then 9 months....

My now pitiful experience with the M8

I love this phone. It's sexy, fast, and did I say sexy? But I'm on my second one now. The first had five stuck pixels and the top was pealing off. This one has none of that, but the touch screen is bugged. If I touch the backspace key on the Google Keyboard, I'll hit P somehow then it will select something random on the screen. If I'm scrolling through the homescreen, an app will open out of nowhere. If I press the back button, it will register it as a slide all the way up the screen and open Google now. I don't know if this is software, but so far it looks like I'm going to have to get another M8. If that one has problems, I'm going to the S5, no matter how ugly and bloatware ridden it is. I can't believe I've gotten two lemons in a row.
On that note, does T-Mobile offer replacements 14 days after getting the replacement, or is it only 14 days after getting the original device? I unlocked the bootloader so I don't want to send it in to HTC.
Get that info from your carrier. Go within these 14 days to a tmobile shop or just call them.

I realize that, I was just seeing if somebody may have had a similar experience, and hoping this was a bug I'm experiencing now, like how my old GNex couldn't detect corners of the screen.

I had the phantom in the keyboard after installing insert coin 2.10 but after updating to 2.3.2 its all good, now the only thing that pisses me off is the whelp message on firewater s off lol :good::good:
Sometimes it makes me happy to live in "technology backwards Australia" (relatively). A year and a bit ago, my 1 year old son thought my HTC ONE X would look better in a bucket of water, maybe he was trying to make a boat.. It had been around 6 months since I had it, I don't get "insurance", IMHO, a scam for most cases over here. Drying it out with silca + rice, I got it going again except it wouldn't read the SIM card. I took it in one of the local carrier shops (Vodafone), we're discussing the possible costs, and she sees my "very colourful" ViperROM, naturally no Vodafone look or apps (LOL).
The girl says it will be "a cost involved" if I want HTC to examine + repair and/or replace phone yada yada. Memory says she said it was $50 to get HTC to look at the phone to let me know if it was repairable etc.. So, I say thanks, go home, look for Vodafone RUU. Go back to stock, go to the other shop, I talk about the phone not working, playing dumb. The attendant guy says "Ok, let see what I can do for you". He goes to a cupboard, finds a refurbished HTC ONE X, and swaps it over on the spot.. Yay for people who don't "dig deeper", as all the phone stuff was less than a day old, that kinda looks suss, unless factory reset would make the files have similar timestamps etc..
But meh, I got a new phone replacement basically, well I didn't have the POGO pins working so my cheap ebay powered case wasn't worth getting extra time, but that was ok, ROM improvements plus my own 10plus hours a day helping out some ROM + kernel devs suss out the battery, we were getting a "pretty good" daily use per charge as opposed to the start, plus I owned 2 or 3 Nexus 7s by then... heh.
And it was somewhat mind blowing walking past the phone shops with the wife+ kids seeing the M8 on release day, no "fanfare" or trying to show off the M8 as a great flagship, it was on display next to an iPhone 4 and a Note (2 or 3).. And then the S5 on it's release did get the little bit of extra 'showing off', but overall, to most ignorant people (non insult), they were just other phones there, well besides how most people know someone or have had a galaxy themselves so therefore may be drawn to that.
And I spent a bit of time at the carrier shops recently as my wife (plus myself) were able to get a new phone, which my wife did, I mainly was inquiring about cheaper or better plans of similar cost since I was happy with my G2. I get a date personally that I have to wait to get a new plan as Vodafone want to intice people to get new phones so they can finish their plans earlier than 'just' getting out of contract to another sim plan.
True to Murphey's law, my G2 got hosed that night, HAHA. Had one 'big death' like that, did the stuff needed to reload the phone with a tot file etc, but the EFS partiton was truly hosed. Baseband, simcard, wifi was truly dead on stock JB, Kitkat and various custom roms I installed that night. Next day, M8 baby!
I got a perfect unit.

T-Mo G3 Problems? (Trying to get some D851 Specific Discussion)

So... over on the main G3 section, there's a lot of talk about several issues.
1) Phone randomly shutting down, or failing to come out of deep sleep (after overnight charging, for instance - but also at more random times). Often, folks are having to pop the batter to get it to come back to life.
2) Problems with using the headphone jack as an aux-output (for car or home stereo, as an example). There are glitches with the phone not realizing it's plugged into something, and glitches with the phone sending out dirty signals in between tracks (pops, crackles, etc), and with a buzz or hum in one side or another.
3) Problems with the phone becoming exceptionally warm. All phones get warm, but some users are reporting that their phones become extremely uncomfortable to hold, and simultaneously begin to have hardware problems (phone just dying completely, or screen flicker).
4) Those who have purchased multiple phones have reported issues with screen variances (some screens will appear warmer or cooler, more blue or more yellow), even with phones that were purchased from the same store on the same day. Some have reported needing to get a replacement phone and noticing this.
I'm curious about getting some discussion going here. Have any of you here had these problems with your D851 (T-mobile) G3's? have you had any major problems with your devices, or needed to get a replacement? Why? It seems like many of the problems are with the D855s, but I'm curious how many are truly affecting our D851s.
Thanks for the feedback!
TL/DR: What big problems have you had on T-Mo G3? Needed a replacement? Thnx!
My first G3 I bought on launch day from the t mobile store had overheating and rapid battery killing issues even after resets and doing everything from scratch. I swapped that one out yesterday and the second one I got was running good but then I ran into the headphone jax bug where it doesn't recognize the headphones being plugged in and after about 4 or 5 resets and wipes it finally starting working.... Right now I am debating if I should just get another G3 or what because the next one might have something else wrong lol.. I go to t mobile today so hopefully everything will go well.
Only one of those I've experienced is the problems with the aux jack
My G3 is perfect to the point I even recommend it to my girlfriend who ended up paying cash for one... Well with hers it wouldn't wake up from a deep sleep while charging and needed a battery pull. I'm definitely going to keep eye on that.
Haven't had any of the issues with mine. Although I just got it yesterday. It worked fine with headphones but haven't tried plugging into my truck yet.
Aux worked fine in my truck..
The only issue I have is the aux in my car. I turn on Bluetooth so I can still play music in my car. I'm ok but lg should definitely fix this.

Hopefully won't get scolded because I already mentioned it in another thread... :/
- My first G3, an AT&T had an issue where knock on didnt work most of the time. Returned it and went to T-Mobile.
- My current T-Mobile version has display issues. Screen has an overall yellowish tint and has been getting worse by the day. The top right corner of my screen just started getting more discolored as well. My brightness is abnormal... it looks as if it goes to 150%, lol. Too bright even on 0%.
Went back to the store, after comparing my phone to the demo models and the salesmen's personal phones, mine was determined as defective. Was going to exchange and they went back to get one phone after another - all 3 that they opened had worse screens than mine. They think they may have gotten a bad batch and advised me to come back in a week when they hopefully get a shipment from a different batch. I dont feel like waiting a week and gambling again, so im going to return it for a full refund. Going to get an AT&T version and unlock it for T-Mobile.
Quick update to what I posted earlier... I went back to t-mobile to replace my 2nd G3 due to Aux port not working and they gave me a new one and I have to say that this is the best one i got screen wise. OMG its beautiful.... colors are balanced, temp of the screen is near perfect not to cold not to warm, sharpness yes its still crazy high but it doesn't have the blurry looking effect with text and certain apps and everything else seems to be working like it should be. Hopefully the 3rd device is going to be the charm if not then idk lol...

Did you buy your device outright? I'm just switching to Tmobile, ordered my G3 online. And for now, I used their equipment payment plan. I'm gonna wait and see how bad the network is in my area. If I go for it, I'll be paying it off straight away. Just curious how Tmobile is about replacing devices that are defective. Are they pretty on top of it?
Or should I invest in some kind insurance? (actual insurance... uggghhh... or the Jump program (also doesn't appeal, but as flaky as these things have been, I'm worried))

Yea I bought the device outright because I sold my S5 and I don't use jump since I switch phones a lot. As for insurance and defective devices I use Tmobile's just without jump and they are pretty good with swapping bad devices. My M8 had a network/sim issues they literally sent 5 M8's because the issue wasn't going away but they made sure the problem was fix lol. Even my S5 screen went bad and they had me a replacement device the next day... so I can't really say anything negative about there warranty/insurance polices. Even with the G3 they replaced the device as soon as i showed something was wrong with a brand new one in box
My opinion

@Eldartho well i would say get it replaced. I did notice the lines with one of the display units in the store. LG is very hit or miss with the displays on the G3.... My current replacment is saturated like my s5 out the box but my last one was dull like z2/z1 so the displays are going to be a raffle on getting the right one. As for the deepsleep that sounded like the problem my first device had and it would always stay hot and drain extremely fast

You are lucky, lol. Last 3 phones I bought from T-Mobile (M8, S5, G3) have all had to be exchanged due to hardware issues. Beginning to think they build the T-Mobile phones with bottom of the box parts, haha. To be fair though, I first bought the AT&T G3 and returned because Knock On wasn't working.
I bought mine off of swappa from a beta winner and it is perfect. Same with my s5. I am lucky x2 it seems

Is anyone else having issues with pressing the settings icon in the notification pull down?
I keep trying to press the top right gear but nothing seems to be happening.
Is there some setting I'm missing or it just not suppose to work that way?
Thanks
Has anybody else had "Cell Standby" high on the list of battery drain?
I have issues with the keyboard reverting back to the stock keyboard even though I was using Swype. I had to freeze the stock one to stop this. I also have some apps logging out occasionally.
Had the headphone jack issue ... Went to the store to exchange n it worked all of a sudden ....bought bluetooth headphone just in case lol got the LG tone pros

Must have gotten a dud. Any ideas?

I ordered the Zenwatch during those few hours they were first available online at best buy. I picked it up yesterday and only have a few days left before I need to return my Sony Smartwatch 3. I want to decide between the two, and was leaning towards the Zen because of aesthetics and I actually like the charging cradle design.....
BUT, this watch lags like crazy and then freezes completely within a few minutes of booting. Even the very first time I turned it on, it took forget to register what I had selected for language. After rebooting, I got past that and it eventually installed a software update. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to help.
After 1 or 2 cycles of dimming the screen and being woken up, the watch freezes. The phone still thinks it is connected and I can feel it vibrate when swiping down to mute/unmute, but the graphics are frozen. The side drawer doesn't activate and the only way to shut it down is to hold the power button for 10sec or so.
I've done multiple "resets" on the watch and repaired the phone, but it keeps acting the same. Is there a hard reset for this watch? Anyone else experience this?
I'd exchange it at best buy but of course they are sold out so who knows how long before they can exchange it.
This happened to me when I had the 360. It froze when I was trying to turn it off. I eventually got it off, just like you did. It never responded the same afterwards. It would freeze at random times. I assumed it was the TI processor in the 360, but I hope this is not something to expect with AW. I took mine back to BB and got a refund so I could get this watch. I hope this is an isolated event.
All the reviews have been stellar and people have seemed happy even on the fortune, so I'm sure this is isolated.
I wonder if there is a way to reload the system software from the computer to the watch? Best buy is a no-go at this time. Sold out and unable to help aside from returning and refunding it.

Based on the tracking status, I should get mine tomorrow. I'll let you know if I experience any funny business when I get mine up and running. Good Luck.
I really haven't noticed any significant lag. It's initially unresponsive sometimes which I attribute to an overly conservative cpu governor, but otherwise it's a pleasant experience.
I've had mine for almost a week now and definitely haven't seen those problems. There were updates to both the watch and phone app soon after starting up. Maybe you got a bad load on one of them. Have you tried the 'Resync apps' option from the Android Wear (Phone) settings menu? Have you tried the full factory reset of the watch? If so, sounds like dud might be the case. If of any significance, I'm connecting via a stock Sprint HTC One Max.
Yes, the watch did an update after the first successful boot, but it was laggy and had frozen during the language setup even the first time. I've done multiple factory resets to no avail, but it does not repeat the update with that (though it does require pairing to the phone again).
I wish I could manually reload the watch system software. I'm new to Android wear rooting, etc. Is it possible to manually completely reload the system software?
Yes, I've also tried the resync apps and have the latest phone software as well...

I would maybe try once with a different phone then call it a dud. I don't know enough about it either to go deeper than that.
Saga over. Returned the watch today after trying clean installs of everything last night. It would even freeze when not connected. Sucks to get a dud, but glad this seems to be a unique occurrence.
Trying out the LG G watch R (what a horrible name). Big and sporty instead of subdued, but nice nonetheless.

I was having similar issues but wanted a couple days with the watch before i posted, I just requested a RMA for the watch, love the look of it, but was having issues with random reboots, very laggy ui especially when browsing through watch faces..had one time where the watch actually locked up and required a hard reset via the button on the back..also got significant battery drain, 2 percent every it seemed 10 minutes....Hopefully the replacement is better than this one...I could live with some of the issues, but the random rebooting i can't deal with. If the 2nd is a dud mite get the sony, till then back to my trusty g watch.

Did you get your watch back? I have to send mine in too because the battery dies in 5 hours without even touching it. ASUS said it is a bug with the lollipop update so they are going to re-flash it. Also did you have to ship it yourself or did you get something in the mail.

I sent mine in cuz it wouldn't turn on. I received an RMA, shipped it to them and they had it back to me in less than a week.

General Well my Pixel 6 Pro died after 2 weeks

I woke up Sunday to essentially a brick, Saturday I went to sleep, plugged the phone in as normal and didnt think anything else about it. I woke up Sunday however and my phone would not get a wireless connection, Bluetooth was dead and the cellular connection constantly came and went.
I assumed maybe it got a software update or something else that killed it so I initially did a factory reset which did not fix it. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth mac address showed up as "unavailable". I proceeded to use Googles flash tool through chrome and reflash the device which again did not fix it. The last hailmary was a fastboot flash of the firmware which again did not fix it. To me it looks like the modem just completely took a ****.
One thing leading up to this I noticed was my cellular connection would occasionally stop working with a exclamation symbol, my Wi-Fi would occasionally stop working as well but always came back. I chopped that up to software issues or something else as it was never a big problem. If this happens be cognitive that its very possible that modem is dying.
I have submitted an RMA with advanced replacement as the 3rd party partner does not have any parts inventory yet. Hopefully this is just a fluke and not a larger issue.
Oh my....I'm really sorry to hear this - I hope it's not a common issue either. Good luck on your RMA - make sure they send you a brand new one, and not refurbished (unless it doesn't bother you).

Damn, man. I feel sorry for you. Hopefully you get a replacement device rather quickly.
Just for curiositie’s sake
- did you bootloader unlock/ root and modify anything?
- in what kind of climate do you live? High humidity? Hot outside? Ever left your phone baking in the sun?
- Or maybe the opposite? Very cold? You used the phone outside a lot? Maybe it's a hardware design problem.
- Did you ever drop it? Maybe it's just the physical connector from the connectivity module to the motherboard that is lose, might be a design problem and could happen to anyone.

Not unlocked, its been in a case 100% of the time since I have had it and hasn't really been "dropped" on anything other than my bed. I'm in SC/USA so its not exactly the hottest or coldest of environments so pretty average same for humidity.

It better be new, I paid for the advance replacement (hold on card) until I send the other in. It should be here tomorrow.
That sucks. Hope it all goes smoothly

Bummer, but they owe you a new one and then some!
Are you extensively on 5G? Or use GPS navigation apps while driving around in the hot sun?
Since the Samsung 5G modem isn't on the 5nm SOC die maybe it has less tolerance to heat.

Almost 100% on 5G/Wifi and use GPS daily with AA and insurance tracking. If the phone cant handle normal use that would be a hardware flaw. It looks like a few of these have been reported on Reddit as well so hopefully the new one does not exhibit the same behavior in a few weeks.

Big uff, that does sound like a hardware flaw. I have no 5G in my area, so I'm not too happy to find a dead device couple month later down the road, when doing holiday or so
What is "normal" 5G/GPS daily use for you? How long is the phone running nonstop? Can you give us a number? Did you ever check how hot it got? According to your statement, you seem to use it as navigation - where have you placed your phone? Did the sun shine on it constantly, or was it down below the windshield where your fitting/instruments/buttons reside? Can you give us an ambient temperature of your area when you used the device?
According to many reports, the phone is already getting quite toasty when doing 5G+Navigation, so maybe a couple hours straight sunshine & that toastiness were just a tad to overkill for it's hardware.
And jea I totally agree, a device dying in 2 weeks because you used it, even extensively, is unacceptable. Maybe if you drive it nonstop with full 5G/GPS madness it is allowed to die after a year, but certainly not in less than a month.

Normal for me is to work in the morning and home in the afternoon roughly 30-35 mins drive with the phone plugged in sitting either in the cupholder or cubby so never really in direct sunlight. I never really noticed it hot to any extent and I don't game on it either so. What I mean as non stop is its constantly on wifi or 5g as we are plastered in this area.
I can say in the morning it felt a little warm when it did die but it wasn't anything completely abnormal. It felt roughly as it would charging.

Well it doesn't sound like any sort of extreme use case, so the phone definitely mustn't die in that scenario.
Just to gauge the customer care response times, have they given you an ETA?

45 mins or so waiting in chat, they shot an email over to me pretty quick but still no shipment notification. It is supposed to be landed tomorrow or the 17th.
Do let us know if the one you receive is brand new or refurbished since the thread below discusses Google replacing brand new with refurbished units
Google is sending REFURBISHED replacements

I did advance replacement which means they are shipping a new phone. If had sent it in I am sure they could have easily done that but we shall see.
