Hi,
My Redmi Note 5 (4/64, global) arrived on Friday, and I opened my bootloader immediately, got TWRP, and installed Resurrection Remix. The only problem is with the ROM, is that the Google Camera ports are not working, therefore camera quality is significantly lower than it is on MIUI, but I hate using MIUI, so I am clueless.
The question is: Is there a stable ROM with Substratum support, that has GCAM and is reliable to use as a daily driver?
I use lineage with Gcam. Photo quality is decent, I suppose on miui it's better.

Hi.
I'm currently using the EU weekly ROM 7.3.30 on my mi5s 3/64 .
All in all, I got it all tweaked up and it works fine, but having tried both lineageOS 14.1 and resurrection remix (both unofficial builds for the mi5s) I feel they run snappier, as I would expect from such hardware. Only problem , no 3rd party camera apps I've tried (open camera, manual camera, the stock cameras on lineageOS and resurrection remix, google camera, a better camera, PixiMod) have been able to focus quickly and accurately, giving consistently good and sharp images as the stock camera app does. Also, most other camera apps are buggy in 4K video (and can't really use any form of digital stabilization).
Is there any way I can transfer the stock MIUI 8.3 camera app to use on lineageOS or resurrection remix.
My phone is rooted, I have titanium backup pro and root browser installed.
Thanks for your advise guys!

I tried backing up the stock camera app in titanium backup and restoring it later from lineageOS but it seemed to be stuck in a loop in 'restoring' such that I had to kill the titanium backup process...
It will be very hard, the app must be using many parts of MIUI calls / code which doesn't exist in other rom.
I think the MIUI camera APK relies on the MIUI system framework, so the camera is just a GUI for the interface which is actually located in the framework. Just from what I've seen though. I could be wrong
That's too bad... I might be lucky, but for me the stock camera app is actually very good (apart from the annoying bug in which the app never remembers the video resolution and it keeps reverting to fullHD instead of 4k). And I'm very picky on photography in general... Seems that for now I'm married to the miui ROMs.
I really want to use LOS or AOSP based rom,
but stock camera app for LOS doesn't seems good enough compare to MIUI stock camera app.
(of course I can use Google camera app, but there's problem with front camera HDR+...)
So, My question is, is there any camera port for Whyred?
(I tried Mi A1 ver, but HDR doens't work)

Did you find any on XDA Note 5 pro topic? No? Then there is no ported stock cam for customs.
Hi, my Redmi Note 5 is arriving and I want to know if I install Ressurrection Remix OS the Gcam app will have the same image quality as if I install it on Miui?
In my opinion it's even better, since you can adjust a lot in the modified versions of the gcam (look out of Arnova and saneklic.)
You can bump up the image quality by quite a bit (also in low light conditions, images can get better). Additionally you have some nice mods (like photosphere, different modis of panorama) which the others don't have. In my opinion the mi camera performs as good or worse than the gcam.
The portrait effect with the blured background can be achieved perfectly by 1 lens again, so no need to use the mi camera for that effect (since lineage snap & gcam use 1 lense only). So there is no need to use miui camera for that one.
Don't forget to activate camera2api (persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1) in the build.prop and you are good2go I hope it helped!
Edit: if you want to use the miui camera anyway, there is a thread where you can flash the .zip file and have it anyway!
I think he means that he would like to know if the gcam performs the same on Miui as on aosp Rom. In the end, is the gcam so good on Miui as the same gcam app on aosp?
Personally I think yes, because they both used camera2api, but I didn't test it.
hi i just got a nx5 which is working fine
any google camera mod available for oreo with night sight?
another thing,
are pie builds good enough for old batteries ?
i mean how is the battery backup compared to stock oreo.
suggest any
thanks
No, it's a feature of pixel 3 camera and there isn't a pixel 3 camera mod working on oreo.
I think the best camera available for nexus 5x in terms of features and image quality is Arnova (pixel 2 mod), you can download it from here . Try the red links. If your nexus has 2gb of ram you may have some camera issue with latest versions.
About the Pie roms I noticed an increment in battery drain, but the real problem is in performance. if your nexus has 2gb of ram you should better to stay on oreo, if you have a modded motherboard with 4gb of ram you can try to use Pie.
Yes there are Android Oreo mods for NightSight out there. Dig a little harder I don't have a link with me but it does exist.
Just to leave the information here, I use arnova's Gcam5 mod on my N5X with latest lineageOS 15.1 and in contrast to the stock Gcam APK (even same version number!) it's working beautifully, no force closes, HDR is functioning - so definitely an improvement!
Post title.
I've had this phone for nearly a year at this point, and the main reason I got it was on my OP7P, all the nice custom roms I could try out. However, the difference between there and here is that custom ROMs on that phone had OOS Cam, they also had the ability to dualboot.
I've avoided being on a custom rom this entire time is because I don't want to give up OOS Cam, but what do you guys feel about the lack of it? I know GCam exists but you can't use 4K120/60 video recording with GCam as far as I know. Has there been any changes to the app to allow for that?
I think that more and more people are asking for it to be integrated in custom ROMs. The thing is that on the opposite of the OnePlus 7 OOS cam app, the OnePlus 9 Pro's is heavily tied to OPPO's ColorOS Camera. And from what I understood, ColorOS has been a pain to deal with for developers, as OPPO isn't as community orentied as OnePlus.
That's one of the things stopping me from switching to a custom ROM. When I've tried GCam on OOS, none of the ports are stable enough. I'm not a huge camera user, but if my camera could crash when I WANT to use it, that would piss me off.
I found somewhere in this forum port of OOS cam, photos and videos working, some features missing tho, lucky I don't use them
So, custom ROM can live with OOS cam

That camera is from OP7 AFAIk, and it's next to useless. photo processing is broken, and video fails at 60fps, so people may as well use Gcam since it's does a far better job than that broken port.
