I just want to know that how the security patches are released to the manufacturers, is it directly rolled out by Google? Does manufacturers (Nokia) modify the code according to the hardware and release it after that? I am on Oreo 8.1 May 1 patch and since this may patch there is a minor issues with the range of the WiFi and bluetooth. The range has drastically reduced. While the other connected device is well in range, my Nokia would fall short on the coverage and signal will lower. So who's at fault is it google or Nokia?
the update is launched by Nokia, but since Nokia uses almost pure Android, it is not much that the firmware must be modified. that's why the update is almost instantaneous when Google launches it.

Did any one revive the update?
i am in the MENA region and its 3rd of may and still no June patch
Waiting for the june update, hope the bugs will be squashed out in this next update, really love Nokia but these bugs are making people disappointed. Google should go through the check up process very carefully before the release as not only these devices as well as nexus devices are also affected resulting in different issue.

You mean 3rd June, not May?
You can't get the patch on 3rd when it is not released even for Pixel devices, Google releases it in about 6th for Pixels. Last month I got an update (for my Nokia 6.1) in the middle of the month, about 16th, what is I think totally normal.

Hex guys,
Why Google is Google still not rolling out the June security Patch? Samsung is rolling out this update since days and Google rolling out this patch in the middle of the month? Why does Google do this? I think they are so fast with rolling out the newest Software. (I'm using the Nexus 5X).
Lg
Google releases Android updates always first as it is their OS, after that the updates get pushed to other carriers for adjustments. So I assume the mentioned Samsung update is a delayed one from former roll outs.
No! Samsung is rolling out the June security Patch in Europe. The first country were Spain on the second of June.
thats strange as there is no June OTA on the Google developer page. so maybe its an own/independent patch.
So it seems to be not an offical security Patch? And when does the security Patch usually arrives on Nexus devices?
yes, thats what I think. normally, Nexus devices get updates first during the first quarter of the month
Usually Google provides the patches to vendors some time earlier, maybe 1-2 weeks. If the vendor is very fast testing and integrating, they can get it out faster than Google. In the past the vendors have been slower than Google, but it looks like Samsung has streamlined their release cycle.
Google's patch will probably come in the next few days.
Hi,
New here and loving my 8 Pro
I was wondering what Android security patch do you guys/girls currently have? Mine (EU version) is 5th of April, anyone got a newer one?
The April security patch is still being deployed. My phone got it less than 2 weeks ago. I think that Google has a quarterly cycle so I don't think there is anything more recent than the April level (but I might be wrong)... in any case I don't expect Huawei to roll out another SW update yet while the current rollout isn't finished.

Uhmm no. Security patches have nothing to do with the UI. They are just "patches". Once Google uploads a new one, they can just patch the framework and necessary stuff, then roll it out with a small OTA.

if it was that easy, why would brands take such a risk of getting a bad reputation for not providing security patches?

I don't know. That's the way they think. Look at the Nexus line. They always receive monthly updates because it's coming directly from Google.

not really true. recall reading an article that briefly explained the process, even security patch takes time for manufacturers to update -- need to go thru chipset manufacturer, and then to phone manufacturer and carriers... what i understand, not that much difference from the regular updates.
which is why Google is trying to make things easier in Nougat.

Why not just flash a PIE Rom? I use all sorts of different Firmware versions to keep me updated xd

Yeah, and yet the Telstra model was updated last month.
I contacted Samsung, same song and dance about "don't know when your device will be updated"...
I thought it was google policy that the current devices were to be updated with security updates ASAP. My security policy is dated December 2018.
Considering this device is out there as a business device this is a major lapse in security as the vulnerabilities haven't been patched on what could, essentially be, a business device. Even if it's not being used by a business, I tend to use this device as a laptop replacement... A lot of personal data can be stored on here and not as secure as my phone...
Considering Samsung is a major player in the smartphone industry, this lapse is unforgivable, my S8 has just been updated to June security update and I don't have half the sensitive stuff I store on my tablet...
Shame on Samsung....

If you want to update your tablet, first of all backup all the data in your tablet and then follow this guide to update it with the most up-to-date firmware:

Samsung pushed a new update to many countries (T835UBS3BSG1) with July Security Patch Update
I am going to download it soon to see if they fixed the UI glitches in the previous update pushed to France XEF
You can check Samsung's official firmware update list, but they don't provide any new information. As you can see, Samsung only provide two types of updates - security and patch fixes and major UI changes. http://doc.samsungmobile.com/SM-T835/XEF/doc.html

The SF4 update have many UI scaling issues, especially in the quick settings toggles (missing first row, missing auto brightness slider in landscape mode), I am flashing the new update (SG1) now via Odin and report back
For example
Dirty flashed the update (using Home CSC) without wiping anything
After reboot I got Samsung Experience Services force stop, updated it from Google Play Store and it is working fine now
Auto brightness slider is now showing properly in landscape, no missing toggles, July Security Patch Update
This is what I found now
They just pushed the Australian update about a week ago, it's now on the May security patch...
At least that's better than the 6 month old security patch they gave before but for a premium flagship this is still unacceptable...
People here know how to use ODIN and flash firmware but for the everyday consumer this is something over their heads...
I know that people will argue that this is an easy fix by coming here or doing a google search but seriously, think back to the 1st time you flashed your device. It as a scary thing knowing (or being blissfully unaware) that you could destroy your shiny new toy. Not to mention the amount of people who know how to use their phone but have NO idea how to do anything on the PC other than browse facebook and send emails...
When we buy our devices we buy the security that the OEM will push out updates to protect our lovely devices and when I pay out a small fortune I sorta expect that this will be the case. Especially when it is retailed as a business device.
Security is all...
You buy a cheap $100 tablet from some Chinese company no-one has never heard of you don't expect much more than the device starts up and works...
You buy from a well established company that has a HUGE presence in the market you are buying the security of having the best and latest.
For some markets this is not happening and that is disgraceful...
Rant over....

Totally agree, it is silly that Samsung pushing only quarterly security patch updates for their tablets
I have a question about these updates.
My last tablet was the Note 12.2. At that time it was awful if the tablet updated, it broke root and you couldn't get it back. So I'm paranoid about letting anything update. However I let that one sit since 2015 because it crashed I didn't have backup and wanted to someday recover newborn baby hospital pics and first Christmas pics. I've been without a tablet since.
I Get here to research the S4, the last with headphone jack tablet and it seems like you have to update to root. Is this right? I also swear I read that pie breaks a couple of programs on the s4, but I can't find the thread now.
Can someone clue me in since I appear to have fallen off the SOTA curve. Thank you for your help.
Hi all, today I got latest update with November security update. A nice feature has been added: smart view now allows resizing to destination screen ratio.
Did you find anything else?
Inviato dal mio SM-T830 utilizzando Tapatalk
What are the limitations of pie over Oreo? Is there a reason not to update?
Just recieved the Update in Germany. All data was deleted!
So Backup your data before installing.
I received the update a few days ago, and since then my tablet doesn't want to fast charge. Anybody has a similar problem?
Not here. I'm on Android 9 (pie) with Nov. 1 security update. I didn't notice any issues. First time I have ever seen Samsung get out a timely security update, it was only a couple of weeks after my Pixel (which is on Android 10).
Hi all
I've last June patch on Android 10
It's still buggy I'm wondering if xiaomi will bring this device in to a stable version or not
Otherwise I'll downgrade to pie
Any rumors on further updates?
Thanks
Stefano
Yes, you'll get another year of Google Security updates as due to Google Policy. Didn't you read the little pamphlet that came with your phone? 2 year software updates aka. 2 major android versions and 3 years of security updates.
This months was an extremely slow month for almost everything, even Windows update was late (they also have monthly security updates). Mi A2 launched it's July update 1 day ago, so we're most likely going to get that next week, but don't worry, it's not going to be August Update, it's still going to be July update... and that's just a speculation based on what happened until now. Same thing happened in April, march passed with no security update and bugfixes, and the "fixed" (or should I call it at list not bricking phones) version launched in early April (3-4 if I'm not wrong).
So yeah, don't worry, you'll get updates until next summer, just remember, it took them a lot of months to make 9 stable too, and I'm not saying that as an excuse for their update delivery, I'm just saying that this happened (not as worse) back in A9 era too.

Sorry to somewhat disappoint but I don't want to raise your hopes too much. There will be things that will be missing from this software like AptX, or like exFAT support and so on. Remember, the SD card issues that Pie had were only resolved when A10 came out... It won't be a perfect device at the end of it's life cycle but at least we can hope it'll work fine... They actually fixed some problems in the updates they gave us until now, but it's far from being a well polished system. All we can do is keep out hopes up, and hope that they took their time to actually fix the errors reported in the forums (xiaomi forum, where a mod says he reports user bugs himself).
Hi gang, long time, no chat! Amazing what happens when Google finally gets their act together with the P6Ps, isn't it?
The last I heard @ 9to5google.com is that it was late. Nothing beyond that, though. Thank you!
Well, Pixel updates were always released on Mondays. So maybe next Monday? Or even a Monday after that.
March Update postponed indefinitely
Google are getting so slow for updates and they barely have any phones lol, whilst Samsung have pushed out 2 massive updates by the time Google has pushed out 1, I also find it strange that pixels software are the bare minimum and have worse battery life
I don't think anyone really knows when it will be released. Interestingly, the A14 DP2 build that was released yesterday had the March security update in it.

HMMMM....
I count 15 updates and one major version upgrade since the initial release of the P6P since October 2021
I've found that Google's updates have drastically improved battery life for my P6P, but it still doesn't compare to the battery life I used to have with my LG several years ago. And I think we all can remember how bad LG was, with releasing updates. I just thought that perhaps I missed some insider news for the delay, and you are so wonderful with these phones.

All pixel phones have march update ota by now, just not pixel 6
Google really starts to look like fools, when samsung starts to be faster with android updates than google, and delays
Would you rather a fast update or one riddled with phone killing bugs?it's not like they sat down one day and said "i know let's make users mad and not release an update".
Google are doing fine with slow updates with lots of bugs, just look at the pixel 6 and 7 update history, software/hardware bugs are all over the place.
