Galaxy Nexus and late 2018 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So I just recently grabbed a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, GSM version of course, and I was wondering if anyone else is still rocking this device. Development seems hot still, Nougat roms, and a rumored and confirmed 2.1.4.13 Sailfish OS build (go figure Samuelgames!). What roms are you guys running? any hardware modifications? How is your 7 year old phone holding up? I can't wait to look at that old 2011 Super AMOLED display, god damn do i miss those yellow tinted colors, so easy on the eyes. My Nexus 5 is like looking into another world and my cave man brain doesn't know how to cope.

It's unfathomable to me why anyone would actually spend money and buy one of these devices in 2018 but anyways, welcome to the GNex forums. Yes, I have one of these as well

Hi rahimali, I didn't expect to see you outside of the RAZR M forums, especially not the Gnexus forums.
As for why I grabbed one, I wanted a replacement for my broken Photon Q (god damn that loss still hurts...), and being a massive Nexus fanboy, I saw a good condition used Galaxy nexus on eBay for about 80$ US, which is quite low since all the cheap ones were snatched up around 2015/2016. I could have gotten a white Nexus 4 for the same price but
A: Shipping would have been MUCH slower
B: I would have shattered that glorious glass back within a couple weeks
C: 2011 Super AMOLED > The best of LCD displays (I love the over saturation, its like live display/night light 24/7)
D: Doesn't get ICS support, which is a MASSIVE seller for me.
Since you own one though, I am hearing battery life sucks, how is it comapred to the RAZR M? Is it better on ICS or Kit Kat? What are your thoughts on the phone?
EDIT: I definitely plan on one day grabbing a Nexus S too, it's a really cute phone and I like that all plastic design, it isn't as pretty but damn does it feel good in the hand. now as far as slowness of the Gnexus goes, I am coming from a Photon Q, which wasn't exactly top of the line since I underclocked it to get good battery life (like, 800Mhz underclock) and it still felt fine. I could easily use a Nexus One on CM9 in 2018 so my needs are quite low, I have no doubt that the 2011 GNexus will be like ****ing NASA to me, even compared to my broken WiFi Nexus 5.

The performance of these phones is more or less equivalent to the Razr M, dual core, 1 GB. These phone have two types of ROMs/Kernels - the legacy ones without CMA with give roughly 600-700 MB of usable RAM and the new CMA enabled ROMs which give 900+ MB of usable RAM.
Most of the development work is being done on the CMA enabled Android 4.4.4 / 6 / 7.1 but IMHO anything over KK bogs down this phone as it just doesn't have the horsepower to handle that stuff. I've found KitKat to be the perfect version for this phone. Of the KitKat ROMs, we have CMA enabled Omni and Unlegacy Android but I've had stability issues with both. Currently I'm using official no-CMA Omni KK which I like very much except I have between 600 and 700 MB of usable RAM...
Why would you even want to use ICS on this phone considering KK is available although the last official release was JB 4.3

I love ICS, it's my favorite version of android. I love that lockscreen, I love that ancient holo aesthetic, I love the old CM9 apollo music app. I love the feeling of being back in 2012 again.
EDIT: As for slowdowns, how is the Gnexus on LOS 14.1 or 7.1 compared to the RAZR M on 7.1? I thought the Razr M was fast as **** on nougat... Also my phones get's here tommorow!!! YAY!!!

Galaxy Nexus vs Quad Core

Hello ,
Currently I am using LG Optimus 3d and looking at moving onto a galaxys Nexus , What i am basically wondering is should i upgrade now and take the upgrade to ice cream sandwhich or wait for a quad core phone coming q2 next year.
A friend will buy my LG for $400 and then i will need to contribute around 200-300 for the nexus. Is this a good choice , or a waste of money?
Thanks ,
jordan

That depends. If you want sheer speed, you don't care about getting the latest updates the fastest, you don't mind having a phone with a custom skin pre-defined by the manufacturer (probably can be changed by changing launcher or flashing a rom) and you don't mind waiting a few months (or longer) for the quad core phones and if you game a lot: Get a quad core phone *which probably has a better gpu than the galaxy nexus*
If you like having the best updates the fastest, having ICS first, having a huge developer base and simply having a non-bloated launcher the answer is simple: Galaxy Nexus
My verdict: I'm getting the Galaxy Nexus as an upgrade from a Motorola Milestone. The phone can only be considered of viable quality if overclocked to 1GHz (from 550mhz) and have a lot of mods installed on it which in turn decreased the battery life significantly. I also live in Canada and since the Galaxy Nexus will be out for Bell early December I'm going to settle for that since I love customizing my phone, I want the ability to have a vanilla android, the hardware is likely to be very optimized for the hardware (+ theres hardware acceleration i think), there is likely to be a huge developer base and finally I want an upgrade for my phone and I don't want to wait 4-6 months for a new device with bloatware.
Note: I also wanted to point out that this is technology. There will always be something new around the corner (take computers for example this year sandy bridge, now sandy bridge E, then ivy bridge next year), you just have to be sure that you'll be set for a good duration of time (depending on your budget) with the phone you get. Also you can look here: http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/16/2565102/smartphone-buyers-guide
Edit: I would say your phone could last a little bit longer but its ultimately your choice.
As far as I'm concerned, a quad core nexus is at least 10 months away so the Galaxy Nexus is the easy choice. I've never had a phone nearly as good as my Nexus One, and extra cores aren't going to work a miracle for performance so IMO the GN will probably be the best phone until the Nexus 4.
Maybe not in certain areas (gpu, dual core), but as an all around well rounded, well supported good experience I'd take the GN before any phone ATM. My only issue is deciding whether to import from Europe or bite the bullet on the LTE version...
I'll go for whats available now, like what one of the post said, there is always something new around the corner.
the dual core is all you need now, although the quad cord sounds good on paper, but do you really need it, and there is really no need for it at the moment.
optimus porting ics really fast, all up to you if you want 720p?
you want 720p now then do the trade, if not keep your optimus 3d. its basicly the same thing but your not getting 720p. If i were you, i would wait for quad core, thats me tho.
And changing from a i9000 SGS1 is it worth? I listen to lots of music and watch videos, but i'm not sure if the change is worth.

[Q] Need Buying Advice (Sprint) GNex or GS3?

I basically need to decide between these two phones, on Sprint. The pros and cons from my point of view are the following:
Pros
----
GNex: better aesthetics (imo), no physical buttons, Nexus device thus great ROMs/Community, no annoying partition scheme for the 32GB
GS3: better specs, larger screen (possibly a con, lol), sdcard slot, potential for great community due to widespread distribution and popularity, better camera, more overall space
Cons
----
GNex: no sdcard slot, slower specs
GS3: physical/capacitive buttons, and while it has excitement around it now, who knows if there will be a dev community 6-9 months from now or how long it will take to get ROM updates with new versions of Android (incl. jelly bean) with fully functioning parts, seems to split the 32GB up into 16/16 for apps/media, which I hate, I want it all for whatever I want (or say, 32GB all for apps, then put media on sdcard!)
Other thoughts
--------------
-I do not live in an LTE launch area, and honestly, likely won't for at least 9-12 months if not longer. I have awesome wifi at home/work though so Sprint's crappy 3G is bearable, most of the time.
-I have an EVO 3D now, and finally, as of like a month ago, I have a working ICS rom with camera that is AOSP, but for most of the last 12 months I've had to decide between Sense (which I hate), ICS without features (such as camera/bt), or Gingerbread. I REALLY don't want to end up in that situation again
-I much much much much prefer AOSP roms and will be rooting/flashing the moment anything is available for the GS3 or the moment I get home for the GNex
-I've had various phones (see sig), but my N1 was hands down my favorite phone
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but I appreciate any thoughts and commentary!
In short, I want the best specs I can get on Sprint, but desperately want an active dev community and plenty of ROMs, and though the GS3 has better specs, it's too early to know for sure about the community months from now, and plus, I like the software buttons and the look of the GNex. I am indecisive :-/
edit: the only real concern I have about the specs is gaming or media playback (via plex)
Played with it for 2 hours and I could not deal with the touch wiz crap. Felt like I was on the GS2 all over again. I like my GNexus that I picked up yesterday.

If you want an aosp device the gnex is the obvious option. Especially with this jelly bean port we have for the sprint nexus its amazing.

I'm not in the US but I have both the GN and SGS3 (i9300) version. Just to let you know the size of the SGS3 isn't that much bigger than the GN. It looks like you are looking for a AOSP experience so I would say you should go with the GN, I loaded JellyBean on it and it is super smooth, but don't get me wrong the SGS3 is a beautiful devices and I'm sure somebody will be porting AOKP or CM9 over to the Sprint version soon as it is already on the i9300.
I hate touchwiz as well so I loaded a custom ROM and used Nova Launcher. Good luck in deciding but you won't regret either device.
From the responses from you guys, I am definitely leaning towards the GNex. I have been browsing around the Sprint development section on here, and there's definitely a lot of activity (which doesn't surprise me). And AOSP is very much my cup of tea, I have no desire for TouchWiz. I know the GS3 will have ports and all, but the Sprint one doesn't seem to have anything in terms of JB yet, whereas the GNex JB porting seems all but completely done already.
My EVO 3D has the Qualcomm MSM8660, 2 cores at 1.2 GHz at stock speeds, and the GNex has the TI OMAP 4460, also 2 cores at 1.2 GHz at stock. I know when the GNex first came out, some people were disappointed in the processor. Have any of you found it to be insufficient? I know it can be overclocked, and I'm sure I will so long as it doesn't cause too much battery loss, but is it sufficient for higher-end games? I looked at the GPUs (Adreno 220 vs. PowerVR SGX540), too, but my knowledge of mobile GPUs is practically nonexistent...
I think the OMAP is plenty powerful, I haven't really found a want for more CPU power ESPECIALLY after Jelly Bean. Device just fly's now.
The main difference between the GS3 and the Gnex is going to be the GPU. Now I don't really game on mobile devices (hardcore gamer on PC and consoles all my life, so the "great" mobile games don't do anything for me only the crazy ones do like Edge or Osmos) but it has been brought to my attention multiple times of people having only just enough performance for high end games.
I've played a little shadowgun, mostly just to test USB OTG and a PS3 controller lol, and that game runs smooth enough. Could use a little more power here and there though.
I think the other benefits of Gnex far outweigh this though. Even more so if you buy retail since it's almost half the price for, what I think, is a much better phone and mobile experience.
I came from a gs2 and this phone is a breath of fresh air. No more waiting for OTAs either!

It depends on your usage, if directed to games, go for GS3, in my view, any kind of use out of it, go with GN.
The GN screen is even dimmer than the SGS3. That is a serious con. Battery is much much lower also. Plus no SD and only 5Mpx camera (which produces bad video).
Still, the GN is awesome in other things, like the on screen buttons and updates. It probably will also get Android 5.0. The back cover is better to hold.
I think the next Nexus will be a LOT better. Im sure it will have an IPS display, like the Nexus 7, plus quad core with JB will be awesome. It if were here today I would have bought it over the SGS3.
For development and if its your main purpose, Nexus hands down.

i too am in the same situation i have always love the gs series however they never realease ota's chances of you getting jb on it a high however you won't get it until 5.0 is released while the nexus will have it months and months before it but the camera is kinda a deal breaker for me i don't use the camera so that isn't a issue for me..
Trust me when I tell you, since you do a lot of hacking, Nexus will be the best choice hands down. Yes, it has slower spec and no sd card... I was complaining too, but after few days, that doesn't seem to matter for me anymore.

So...What's next?

Here we are 2 years later with our Droid Razr M's. Contracts are ending. Official updates are done. ROM maintainers are leaving. Development is slowing.
And I'm wondering...
Where are you going from here?
Will you be staying with the M?
Leaving?
I'll be leaving in 3 months or so, My Verizon contract will be finished and I'll be picking up a Moto G (2014) and floating around the pre-paid market for awhile.
And finally...
Do you enjoy the Razr M?
I very much dislike the Razr M. I personally don't care about "specs" but The Razr M is a little too small for me (I dislike the shape immensely) and the lack of internal storage has always been a issue. I hate having to move updated system apps/libs back to the /system partition just to save internal storage space . I came from a 32GB Galaxy Nexus so... It's been a tough adjustment.
When I first starting using this device, it suffered from SOD's (Sleep of Death). Which made the device unusable until the bootloader exploit was released (The first time around) and I was able to remove MP-Decision. Moto fixed this issue with the last two JB updates and I no longer had to disable MP-Decision, which was nice. The performance and battery life has been great though and much better then my Galaxy Nexus.
And last but not least is the terrible display. PenTile display on such a small screen tends to distorts text. It's... just terrible.
To sum it up, I just don't like the Razr M. I got it for "free" on upgrade (this was before the $30 upgrade fee that Verizon is pushing now) and this was the best "free" device at the time.
I also picked up my M in the same way you did. It was an upgrade and it was my very first smartphone, so I liked the size. I used it for about 9 months, then purchased a used HD (the mod bug bit me). I relegated the M to media duty and it does just fine.
However, with the M being my first smartphone, I had nothing to compare it to, until I purchased my M8 a few months ago. My HD seemed to perform better than my M, but the M8 blows those out of the water.
I like M, there's really nothing bad about it. However, it's an older entry-level phone and the newer ones kill it. Step up to a flagship like I did with the M8, and the M will feel archaic.

My experience is not typical and may not be of much reference value to others, but I still would like to share.
M is to be liked for many reasons. It has a sleek and modern look (especially the narrow bezel and kevlar), it is pretty lightweight, it has by far the best CDMA and GPS reception I've ever seen (cold start and locked on in 3 secs), it serves me well as a hotspot and GPS device which are exactly my intended purposes. With CM11 on board it doesn't seem to slow down much compared to my primary phone, the Nexus 4. And overclockable to ~2GHz. Guess it could still take the challenge of CM12 Plus I don't care about Pentile and stuff, as long as it's not 480p on 5 inch, and as long as it's not as blue as Galaxy S's SAMOLED, I'm perfectly fine with it.
However, its shape is indeed a bit small and rough in hand, and in this sense, Moto G did a way better job. I think it should be a 4.5" crammed into a 4.3" body instead of a 4.3" into 4". Moreover, it does heat up pretty fast during use, and that somehow affects battery life.
Like I said, M is just one of the "wingman" devices I own for misc purposes, and I switch these devices pretty often (watch my signature). However, I don't think I'll be swapping away M in the near future, because it's already one of the best backup device I've had. Power and simplicity in a compact package.
P.S. I'm going to try my luck to trade my Xperia SP away for a Galaxy Mega 6.3, hopefully it's worth it.

I don't think the Moto G (2014) is much better than the Razr M. They both have there gives and takes. It's a cheap off-contract phone, that's why I'll be picking one up.
i will stay with my razr m until this little guy gets enough of being flashed, i'm going to check other phones btw but you recommend me to stay on stock rom or go with CM11?, because the only thing that keeps me to go to CM11 is the camera quality and the 60FPS video mode
Was there any Roms available if you took the ota?

i installed the CM11 KK BL, is very smooth and i don't have any bluetooth, wifi and mic issues, except that the screen recording reboots my phone, the camera doesn't have the 60fps mode and HDR, the GPS don't work, the speaker has low volume and the voicenotes on whatsapp are not working (the voicenotes are silent) even if i send one to other phone , when this in stock works pretty well, these are the reasons that keeps me to use CM11 as a daily driver, right now i'm using the stock (183.46.15)

I still have a year to go on my current contract; I got my Razr M for "99 cents" last November. It was an early Christmas present from some relatives, as my then-6-year-old Samsung Alias had taken a deadly fall.
I honestly don't know what I'll be doing a year from now. Sure, I'd love a better phone, but I'm really too broke to buy anything significantly better. (I was able to pick up a Galaxy Nexus on the cheap recently, which I'm keeping as a backup phone.) Maybe I'll buy a used Moto G for cheap and go prepaid.
The Razr M is technically my first smartphone; I had a Droid X2 (donated by someone who went to an iPhone), but simply used it as a Wi-Fi device. Either way, it was one heck of a step up - it was my first foray into having Internet access anywhere, after all, as well as Jellybean in general (it was on the penultimate JB firmware when I unboxed it; I fatfingered an OTA two days later and was thereafter locked out of custom ROMs until KitKat and Towelroot came along). I was more or less wowed by it.
Time passed, of course. I educated myself. I slowly started to become frustrated with the Razr M's shortcomings, simultaneously justifying the phone choice and kicking myself for said frustration because it was my relatives who picked and bought it for me - I'd probably still be on a feature phone and nowhere near writing this post otherwise.
I like the size of the phone, at least while it's in the Otterbox case I got for it. It's just the right fit for one-handed use. I like the overall performance - it rarely lags enough to frustrate me, and it handles every game I've thrown at it fairly well. What I don't like is the small internal storage (I haven't really looked into solutions for moving apps to the microSD). I don't like the fact that I went from two days of moderate use (on my Alias) to less than half of one (on a "light" day, I might get 14 hours). I wish the camera was better; the Galaxy Nexus takes better pictures in my opinion. I wish the screen wasn't PenTile, or at least that the resolution was higher. I don't like that it now has two separate bootloaders and we have to reflash JBBL for the more-stable CM right now (I'm sticking it out with KKBL, simply because I'm lazy, scared I'll make a mistake, and still hopeful that the remaining issues will be fixed before long).
I'm dreading the inevitable day when the Razr M community plummets and I (and the dozen or so other late-contractors) am left behind with only each other for help. Life happens, I guess.
If anyone has a Droid Razr Maxx that they're selling for a low price ... let me get back to you in 2015. :/

It's really not really Motorola entirely... It's more Verizon... I understand the logic behind it... They want to be able to provide the best possible assistance in the event we call for technical support... Don't get a device from Verizon or a Verizon branded device if you want to ensure there will be some hope...
We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.
What's next? Next is finding ways unlock root and boot on 183.46.15 firmware

It's Verizon, all non-Verizon Motorola phones can be bootloader unlocked using the official way on their webside. Only by Verizon it can be done only on developer edition phones. And many other Verizon phones by other brands than Motorola have the same problems with unlocking bootloader.

I hope too, but my device can dream on this version only. I think it will be cool os but as always this one will be installed first of all on Nexus smartphones.

Where should we know? My best guess is yeah, probably.
Samsung has so much device fragmentation I highly doubt it - even if they consider this their flagship tablet they've already announced a new version of it. Plus, there's been so many deep discounts on the device lately it seems thought they move on firly quickly to the next model. I feel like Samsung doesn't have the support I've grown used to with Nexus devices :/
Plus, not being a true octa-core (I.e. it's a big.little implementation of one fast quad paired with a slower battery-friendly quad core) it doesn't seem like the tablet I thought it would be. It's still pretty awesome and I don't plan on replacing it for several years but I doubt it'll get M.
I just hope someone steps up to be an official maintainer for some of the devices with, say, cyanogenmod, so we start getting some official nightlies.
Wow, are we seriously fretting already about the next major Android update that probably won't even be available on Nexus devices before Christmas? Does anyone at XDA spend more than a few hours enjoying the device they have before worrying that they're being ignored by the manufacturer (or carrier, etc.)?
I'm starting to hate Android updates, always someone complaining about things.
Who knows what goes inside the head of Samsung engineers and managers? My personal view is that as soon as Tab S is succeeded by its 2015 replacement, which should be this summer, the 2014 Tab S won't be getting any new updates from Samsung. I personally wait for Cyanogenmod to start producing the nightlies for the T800, just like they do for T700. That would be the best upgrade path.
Samsumg always provide at least 2 years of updates in my experience. If the Tab S2 gets it, which is more than likely, the Tab S will too.

I am with you on that, totally. Samsung is pushing their Tizen OS and it's just a matter of time before it become the official OS, especially for all their new devices. ANDROIDPIT has a good write up on M, most of the features we always wanted from the launch of ICS, but it's great to see Google developers paying attention, as we saw improvements to the features in each OS release after ICS, in particularly the security/permissions of applications. Kudos to Google! I'm not sure about Samsung, they've been acting like Apple lately (if you know what I mean).
I'm all for device longevity but so what if we don't get M? Nobody promised us M when we bought this tablet, which is great the way it is as far as tablets on Kitkat/Lollipop go.
I dont think our tab s can handle android M

What is that comment based on?
I also have a Nexus 10 running Lollipop 5.1.1 and it runs better than the original v4.4.x it came with. The only issue I can think of is the size of the system partition and that could be addressed considering the amount of included bloatware. Besides my Nexus 5 is getting Android M and that cannot be that much different in power than a Tab S.

What phone would you get next?

What phone would you next upgrade to if in the near future? Or would you keep your device for a little longer and wait for something better to come out?

For now 3 phones appeal my eyes . Will look how it goes with price near holidays / black friday
Moto X Play : lots of +++ , 2 -- : problems with big lag in chrome / twitter app ( hope is software and will be fixed ) . Screen 5.5 is little big
Nexus 5x : 2 --- no dual sim, low battery
Lumia 950 : 1 big - : PRICE !!!
Most likely Moto G
I was hoping the S6 mini would be released by now, but not even sure they are gonna release one.... There's loads of budget Samsung ranges like E and J series plus others. I was maybe thinking Moto G 3rd gen 2gb ram or maybe a LG G3. Like to stick with a good name to get regular updates.

There is no s6 mini. I was looking forward to it. Last month i bought galaxy alpha. With exception of battery life (bad), everything was great with that phone.
I sold it to my friend, so i have been using s4 mini since. Still looking for a sub 5-inch higher midrange phone. Hope we have one soon.
Nexus 5X seems to be dissappointing to some review guys. Terrible audio quality, less than average battery life and occasional UI lag are its problems.

Hey @Mitko
It has been a while since you posted video on s4 mini archive.
I love that channel Hope you comeback if we get an android 6 rom.
Thanks. Cheers.
I wouldn't upgrade to Moto G because it's not much better than the S4 mini actually. My sister has an S4 mini, and my mother a Moto G, and the S4 mini with CM12 is not much slower than the moto G 2014. If you really want to upgrade, I'd spend some bucks. Moto X Play is i guess the best phone for casual users who don't want to spend $600 right now. I have upgraded to a Zenfone 2 and I'm loving it, and although it beats the moto X in raw processing power, it has a lot of drawbacks the moto X play doesn't, including worse battery life
Think I may be using the s4 mini for some time to come, with the hope something new comes out that covers all the bases. That or I'm going to be forced to take the 5" plunge and get a S6 when prices drop a bit more... Bah I personally think all these newer phones of 2015 are all lacking in some department and my wallet isn't that deep. Long live the s4 mini...
On the list posted up i forgot to add OnePlus 2 : with some - : price is a little higher, availability, and i am afraid with Os upgrades . For example Oneplus One is still on 5.0 not even on 5.1.1 .
I`m tired of no updates on S4 mini, i want latest and greatest not with custom roms
I want to take the phone out of the box, place sims and use the phone. No more kernels, rom modding , custom roms.
That's exactly what I'm after. No offense to devs as they work REALLY hard to bring us new things, but I want a device that is updated regularly by the phone manufacturer themselves. Especially security updates. I feel security is always 2nd to looks. Security is No. 1 these days. Android is quite buggy and unless you own the latest and greatest device your most likely open to a lot of security holes. The best for updates are nexus and Moto. Samsung though the biggest concern are SLOW to release updates and if at all in our case.... It's these things that are pushing me away from my favorite company Samsung, and is even making me to think of an iPhone, one pure ecosystem. That and custom roms though usually always faster always have a lot of bugs throughout their history. It's a difficult decision...

Hey! I know, right!
It's been a while indeed. My S4 mini started to get huge random battery drains accompanied by heat and screwing around with different roms, stock firmwares, kernels, and even a brand new battery couldn't solve the issue. I hope that the S4 mini will begin to receive CM13 builds - official or unofficial, as a last treat before it truly becomes an ancient 2013 phone. I just asked arco68 about the matter.
Xaomi MI4 looks good to me. If I can save money, I think I'll buy it.
Btw, @SilviuMik I agree with you. I want to latest and greatest updates without customroms. So maybe I can buy a xperia device. Sonny told to updated latest version of Android their some devices.
Sorry for my bad English

Nope.
I would buy another S4 mini.. I can get them for $140 without subscription (Good thing!) here in Denmark (which is insanely cheap for Danish pricing), and it has one of the best communities ever here on XDA, as far as I can see.
It's definitely gonna be a samsung anyway, because I love Odin, and I wouldn't even dream about flashing another HTC. I own a Macbook, and I flashed an old HTC Desire yesterday, man it was ugly as hell. I ended up installing Windows 7 on an old computer just to get the random crap software working, as 8.1 and 10 didn't work and ... Omg you wouldn't believe how much of a pain in the ass it was! Took literally 11 hours straight with only a couple of lunch breaks. It did end up quite speedy on Android 2.3.1 tho, so it was worth it! I hate throwing old stuff out because of planned software obsolescence and forced upgrades because of (what I personally think is) artificial slowdowns. The phone works just fine, even with a couple of modern apps.
If any of you have any other recommendation for a good phone with lots of ROM's for it (that works just 95% of the time haha, I don't mind reinstalling every 3-4 weeks if I have too, it's not like I don't enjoy it..), I'm more than willing to hear you out! But for now I will stick with my S4 mini til something better comes up. Money isn't that much of an issue, as long as it's sub <$800 as I have a little voice in my head telling me to never spend the entire worth of a Macbook Air on a phone.
What concerns me is the lack of a powerful yet compact smartphone. I want to buy the S6 as prices have dropped slightly.
Also S6 has cm13 rom now.. so in a couple of months we can expect a stable cm13 and other related cm type roms. But battery
life on that phone is a problem. I can use a big phone but it should not have any flaws. Will wait and see if there are any good
phones coming out in next 1-2 months. Till then I will enjoy official CyanogenMod 13 nightlies....
