Yes, I'm looking for custom ROMs. Thanks for clarifying. I'm on pixel dust right now and WiFi calling doesn't work.

Deleted, didn't realize I was in the xl forum.

Anyone?

Honestly you should run stock flash magisk and a kernel. I'm also using substratum. You would never know I am running stock. I have a custom lockscreen and center clock root etc...

Thanks I'll look into that. It's been almost 2 years since I had an unlocked phone that I don't know much about magisk.

Magisk is great it's like super user but it hides root automatically from things like Android pay and other apps that block root. Flashing a kernel is important when you flash magisk because most contain the patch to hide the fact that your bootloader is unlocked. Without that you can't hide root.

How difficult would it be to port a rom over from the other carriers for the developer edition? I understand there are build and kernel issues. I would be happy to experiment, but I have little knowledge in this area. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I've gotten a couple T-Mobile ROMs to install but when I change the APN settings for VZW they will not save.

AOSP will not install, it throws an error everytime. I have tried several times but I can't get the APN settings to stick to enable LTE.
Someone will figure it out eventually. I remember my galaxy s4 was in the same boat on GPE ROM for a while
So, basically I could flash something like dynamic kat and ktoonz or faux for tmobile, get it booted up, change the APN and if it sticks, I'm good to go?

correct. firekat for tmo has a verizon version in one of his first 5 posts you can download and try. i know a guy running it with nadia kernel with great results. Not sure if on a tw rom you even need to change the APN settings

You can either wait for root on the retail edition or purchase a developer edition when they are back in stock. Those of us who are flashing ROMs have purchased a developer edition that can be rooted unlike the retail edition that most have purchased that can not be rooted yet. The link I posted for a developer edition is the onlly way you can get one besides buying a used one. Verizon dose not supply these.
Is root getting close?

That sucks
on 8.0 also it has to be a stable build (not beta) and then also it's not 100% guaranteed it will work, depends on the rom.

Thats crazyy i figure op5 would be more compatible since its pretty stock
Some misinformation in this thread.
Stock OxygenOS (whether with or without root) has issues with MOST themes for Substratum. A couple that are actually built for OxygenOS will work with minor glitches.
Substratum does NOT NEED ROOT to work, even on 7.1. However, the firmware has to be build with some specific features to accomplish this. Most OMS firmwares (AOSP) do not need root to be themed. This is why Oreo stock firmware works without root because it has these prerequisites.
I would wait before trying to theme your stock OP5T until either a themed builds one specifically for it (would still need root), or until a good AOSP firmware comes out that you can theme without root.

yeah , i'd also recommend waiting at this point. OxygenOS is really terrible when it comes to themeing/skinning (it's never been really standard when it comes to that), Oreo should change this quite a bit by bringing OMS to the table for all roms finally (tho i'm sure some manufacturers will start to remove it from their android port *sigh*).
Once Oreo is well deployed on most big brand names, you'll see substratum take off even more, i'm sure (in fact i'm assuming once OMS is everywhere, there will be some competition too, but we'll see about that...).

Should I root my A50?

Last phone I rooted was my mi 9. So far i Havent yet, should I? what do you guys think
Don't root. Not worth the risk and effort. GCam does not work no matter you root or not.

I dont see many roms tho :/
I always root my mobile phones. For example to use macrodroid and soms apps that use root.
Can anyone recommend what rom I should get?
So is it true, that you lose root after rebooting? I dont want to root if thats the case

Any way to get future security updates on Pixel 2XL, custom roms?

Haven't rooted and installed custom roms since Nexus phones since everything ran good and loved getting security updates on the Pixels. I know this is ending.
Is there any way to get the newest security updates such as installing a custom rom?

You sort of answered your own question. Yes the only way going forward will be with a custom rom and that's only if you don't have a Verizon model.

Verizon model has a locked bootloader, so you can't install custom roms
Since pixel 2 xl will soon stop receiving updates, I am building a pure aosp rom. I need testers for the rom. If someone is willing please let me know.

Custom rom for Google Pay

Hi guys
I'm thinking of going with a custom rom since Samsung have stopped security updates for the s9.
I'm not interested in root.
1) which rom will give the most stable performance with Google pay and banking apps? Back when I used to tinker with roms/root many years ago, it was a cat and mouse game between safety net and magisk. What is the current picture? How often should I expect google pay to break?
2) which rom gives the best battery performance?
3) which roms have automatic updates?
Thanks in advance
Mubs.

Thanks buddy. Will do.
How easy is the process to revert back to stock rom if I'm having issues with banking apps?
How reliable is Google pay with these custom roms?
I don't have the appetite to continually have to make adjustments to my phone to make gpay work.
I would prefer more of a set it and forget it approach.

Just flash stock rom back with odin
And just hold power button and you have a gpay

I don't need root so can install the rom as it is.
What are the chances of success with gpay and banking apps working with and without root?
What is your experience with gpay breaking?
How often does this happen where a workaround is needed?
Thanks

Can you send me a link to the exact rom that you're referring to and the instructions?
All the instructions I'm reading require TWRP etc. I'm looking for the least invasive method of flashing.
Cheers
